This location is forever changing restaurants. Noticed a new food establishment has made its way into the 626 scene and swung by with the fam. To be honest, I was very surprised to see the non Asian looking staff speaking fluent Mandarin. I have only been familiarized by their culture through the contestants of the Chinese singing shows my parents watch. So it was definitely an eye opener to experience the cuisine. Their menu consists of chicken, lamb, and beef. It is a Halal restaurant after all. I highly recommend trying their amazing lamb/beef mixed pie, only after other dishes. The reason I emphasize this was because during my experience, all the other dishes tasted bland after the pie. Especially the beef manti, which otherwise would have been tasty in its own right. The lamb/beef combination has such distinct flavors that it stole the show for the rest of the night. The traditional hand made noodles also made a nice impression. Each strand so unique, it tells the story of how it's made. The bean jelly was also very nice to try. Great sauce! I've never even heard of, let alone tried, Uyghur cuisine until I saw this restaurant on someone's Instagram. My fiance told me about this restaurant, and after browsing through the Yelp images a few times, I ended up coming here to try it with a friend. Uyghur food is, in many ways, a fusion of Turkish and Chinese cuisine. I had never even seen anything like it until now. I think the closest cuisine I've had to this is Nepali cuisine, but Nepali is more like Indian and Chinese fusion, whereas Uyghur is almost Middle Eastern and Chinese fusion. Uyghur food has some mainland Chinese elements, involving hand pulled noodles and use of spices. There's also the use of boned meats to make stews. But then there is the Middle Eastern influence of halal as well as the samsa, which is vaguely reminiscent of the samosa, but baked instead of deep fried. Not only is this cuisine tasty, but Dolans is an excellent restaurant in and of itself. I tried the samsa which were very flaky, soft, and full of flavor. There was lamb and beef in the samsa, and some pickled cabbage thtat complimented it quite well. The big plate chicken, a highly recommended dish from the staff there, was very aromatic and tasty, with just the right kick of spice, and also had what tasted like homemade hand pulled noodles. The Dolans special tea was sweet, light, and refreshing. This highly unusual fusion cuisine absolutely floored me, and I loved it to death. My husband and I were excited to learn about Dolan's opening. We brought our parents, uncle, and aunt to sample a good number of their dishes. Big plate spicy chicken - wasn't as flavorful as Omar's. But portion was a bit bigger and you get a lot more chicken. Lamb kabob - loved the seasoning and the kabobs were grilled perfectly! A must get! Stuffed naan - we loved the filling and were surprised the dough didn't get too soggy. Samsa - super flakey phyllo dough with similar filling as the stuffed naan. Very filling, perfect to share! Lamb soup (without bone) - very comforty but didn't have much substance. Less than a handful of lamb pieces. Beef noodle soup - worst dish of the day. Super bland and over cooked noodles. This was my first time trying Uyghur Cuisine so I didn't really know what to expect. I was a little disappointed in the service because no waiter came to provide me with a menu upon sitting at a table. I had to actively request for one. Despite the inattentive service, my bf and I were still excited and ordered a few dishes based on other Yelpers' recommendations. We ordered the Uyghur Goshnaan, Laghman, Pumpkin Manti, Samsa, and Uyghur Kebab. I didn't eat any of the lamb dishes, but my bf said they were delicious and flavorful without much gaminess from all the seasoning and spices. The non-lamb dishes were all surprisingly good. The laghman is basically hand-pulled noodles stir-fried with veggies and beef. Noodles were super chewy and sauce was kind of tangy from the tomatoes that's refreshing on the palette. Beef slices, unfortunately, were really charred and dry so luckily the sauce helped moistened them up a bit. Pumpkin manti was interesting since I've never really had vegetarian dumplings with pumpkin and bell pepper fillings before. The skin was a tad dry and it hardened a little bit, but it wasn't too bad. Samsa had minced beef and onion fillings wrapped in puff pastry dough. It was super flaky, so texture and taste were spot on. Overall, I am super glad that I was adventurous enough to try Uyghur cuisine having never ate it before. It was our last day in LA, so we decided to get something that are special and different. I am from Hong Kong and I know what is happening about the Uyghurs in XinJiang, so I thought it would be a meaningful last dinner in LA for us. Well, turned out not just that it is special, but their food were very good! So glad we went and try. First time having Uyghur cuisine, and it is as good as it gets. It's a perfect mixture of Turkish, Chinese and their own cultural touch. We had their spicy noodles, Big plate chicken, Manta (the dumplings), and the Uyghur Goshnaan (A beef and lamb and kind of like a pie). I know it's a lot of food, but it's the last time so we gotta try it all to give it a fair review right? lol. Turned out everything was AMAZING. We loved the spicy noodles the most, the noodles was perfectly chewy and bouncy, flavourful and perfect match with that hint of spiciness and deep flavor. Thin slices of beef which makes enhance the spices. It's the best! I can tell they used some Chinese spices that I am familiar with, but also spices like cumins that are more so used in Turkish food. My husband loved the Manta and says it's the best he ever had. (And he had my homemade dumplings! How rude! lol) I loved the big plate chicken with the thick flat noodles. It is similar to szechuan dishes but with a very different tomato/ sweet flavor into the dish. The Goshnaan was also amazing even after a day (Cause we can't finish it after having all the noodles, so we had to have the Goshnaan a day after). It was addictive where we had it for lunch AND dinner! Haha. We had their milk tea as well, which is SO different to the Hong Kong milk tea or Indian milk tea. It is actually salty! First time trying salty milk tea drinks which is surprising. Not our favourite, but I can understand it and I do enjoyed it! Overall, AMAZING. I wished we knew their food is great and that we could get it a few times more. Especially I know they are trying to bring awareness of what is happening in the Uyghur community and put efforts in it. I'm a harsh food critic, even so this place pleasantly surpassed all my expectations. We had the big plate chicken, laghman, korma chop, steamed rice and the special tea. Meat was tender, noodles were thoroughly seasoned, rice was perfectly cooked. Overall flavor was amazing and unique to every dish. Despite the quantity of the food ordered, we did not leave with any to go boxes despite being stuffed as the food was just too good not to finish. We even made space to finish it off with the special tea. The service was also top notch, the staff checked in on us frequently to make sure everything was fine and were very helpful in explaining menu items, and were very cheerful as well. 5/5 would easily drive an hour to eat here again. read more

The place is very pretty and decked out in Uyghur cultural items everywhere. Service was great. My biggest question was how did its food compare against Omar's? I appreciated how the place was spacious and clean, something Omar's definitely does not have. The food definitely was not as flavorful as Omar's though so if I want to entertain, I would perhaps come to Dolan's if I wanted to sit comfortably. For food alone, I'll go with Omar's. read more

A co-worker introduced me to this place and I'm so glad she did! Alhambra is an Asian food hub but Dolans is like no other (someone please correct me if I'm wrong, or give me a recommendation) in the area. Dolans specializes in Uyghur cuisine - a little bit of Chinese, Indian, Persian - and is definitely filled with flavor! It reminds me of Szechuan spice or cumin with the dish we tried. We got the big plate chicken that came with a generous portion of chicken, peppers, potatoes and flat egg noodles in a spicy stew. It was such a homey, spicy dish and we had leftovers for 2 for a couple of days! I'll definitely be back to try more items on their menu! read more

The big plate chicken noodles are the star of the show, flavorful and house made noodle dough (machine pressed) was a perfect chewiness. The eggplant also savory and pull apart soft. The lamb skewers possibly a little overcooked to medium but hot off the grill with a spice mix that'll have you asking for more. The Dolan special tea is a spiced must get. I have ordered (Beef naan) its thin bread with meat inside of it- but there was no sign of meat just onions with a flavor of beef I have ordered beef soup and on their menu it was clearly stated its beef soup but when soup came there were some additions like tofu and other unknown ingredients that were not specified on menu for this meal ( can be seen easily Next thing I have ordered is Manti ( it is russian dumplings) , again meat inside of it is consist of non chewable meat and it has some smell. I wish I know this place before. Their 大盘鸡 & honey cake is absolutely amazing and satisfying. The restaurant is clean, organized and a lot of times during busy hour, there were only two girls serving the whole area however they were always efficient and would take care of you. I really wanted to like this place, but after some thought I was not thrilled with the service and food. To clarify, I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars because the flavor of the food we ordered tasted great and that in itself deserves all the stars, but the price for the portion, quality, and service for ordering to go really brings this place way down. I also think that the dollar signs for this place should be $$$ not $$ - they are expensive! Service (lack of): They are only taking to go orders right now and we walked in to order and was abruptly told to stay outside since another customer was standing inside. When that customer left, we waited to see if they'll come out to let us know to come in. Nope. So we walked in and looked at the menu and flagged someone to order. After paying for our order, I noticed the price for the kebab noodles was wrong and we paid more than for what was listed on the menu. I asked him about it and he flipped through two other menus before the "new" / higher price was shown. Okay, no problem... still expensive no matter how you look at it. After that, we stood there at the same spot and I asked him where should we wait since I didn't want to get yelled at by the other guy for being in the wrong place and was then told to go around to the back of the restaurant... when was he going to tell me this if I hadn't asked? Food: Honestly, all three dishes we ordered: Big Chicken Plate (small size), Kebab noodles, and Boiled Lamb tasted good. So in terms of the flavor department, that's the saving grace for this place in my opinion. If you still plan to come here after reading my review, I do recommend the Kebab noodles and maybe the Big Chicken plate because it's a decent portion for the hefty price tag. What really disappointed me was the portion of the Boiled Lamb. At $17, you get a huge lamb shank bone with about the meat of one lamb shank, maybe a smidge more. I can taste a hint of another spice in there, but it was overall just a salted lamb and nothing special and definitely not worth $17! Now the kebab noodles were probably the best tasting dish we ordered, but it came out lukewarm! Why? Even the Big Chicken Plate was barely hot in temperature...how? This place is a huge miss for me and I will not be coming back. For the price and quality, you're better off eating elsewhere here in San Gabriel Valley. This is the place I always bring guests to have a 3 course meal in the SGV. Always order lamb pie,big chicken plate, and cucumbers but will get an additional dish at every visit just to eat through their menu. Love their teas and all are great to pair with their honeycake for dessert. Nice presentation, ambiance, and decor. My husband and I always try to think of some reason we can order their giant $500 lamb roast but we haven't had a cool reason yet to do a giant party . Best Xinjiang/Uyghur food I've had in LA hands down. They have a fairly simple menu with all the classic dishes Uyghur cuisine is known for. On our visit, we had the Tiger salad, big plate chicken, Uyghur polo, and laghman, all full of flavors and generous in portion. This is also the first Uyghur spot I've ever been to with a boneless big plate chicken option and whole barbecued lamb, nice touch. Just me ate here. For the ground beef soup, the soup base is lamb soup with the tofu that tastes like mayo sauce. It's a little sour. The beef balls doesn't taste fresh. The beef balls taste like the frozen beef balls that use for "meatballs spaghetti". I don't recommend this soup. For the big plant boneless chicken, the chicken is soft and taste not bad, but it's like missing some seasonings. I love it. For the naan with beef, the beef just a little. Naan is the major ingredient. I have no idea why they mix with French fries. I don't recommend this dish for 1 person eat here. I suggest this dish eat with beer when you watch the ball game. Naan is so crispy, but too oily. For the Baklava is too sweet, but it's taste good. Uyghurs milk tea is just the hot water mix with salty milk powder, it doesn't have any tea favorite. Baklava with Uyghurs milk tea is very match combination. I recommend Baklava with Dolan special tea. I will come back for big plate boneless chicken and Baklava. read more

Dolan's opened about a year and a half to two years ago, and I'm really hoping people keep coming here to keep it going! There's not that many restaurants in the area that have Uyghur Cuisine (that I know of), I love them both so much (Omar's is also excellent). My favorite dishes are the Laghman (hand pulled noodles with their delicious sauce, onions, bell peppers, celery, and beef), the big plate chicken (flat hand pulled noodles, chicken, spicy sauce), samsa (flaky pastries with beef and onion), and of course the kebabs. You can order on their website (or via the standard delivery apps), but I'm gonna guess what's on their website helps them out the most. All the workers were wearing masks and they have a table set up at the entrance so that you don't really enter the restaurant. read more

Such a unique find - don't think you'll find such intricate and homey food from this region anywhere else in the US. Came here for the noodles, halal meat, and what a mix of Persian/Chinese/Indian food tastes like. Service was friendly, no wait on a Tuesday night. Started the meal off (wrongly) with 3 large meals to share and then tea for dessert (I think the correct way is to drink tea first followed by your meal). This was more than enough for 2 people and we left with tons of leftovers: || Big plate chicken (small): 4 stars. For 2 people the small is more than enough. Loved the combination of flavors in the chicken and sauce and also loved that they left all the bits and pieces of the chicken on. Only wished there was more hand pulled noodles! || Beef and fried naan: 3.5 stars. This was very spicy but not overpowering. Great char on the beef. Wish there was a saucy element since the meal was a bit dry || Meatball soup with beef: 5 stars. My favorite part of the meal. This soup is similar to an Italian wedding soup with simple flavors but yet a kick coming from some of the chili's and salts. Loved the veggies, broth and meatballs. Would love to come just for this. || Rose tea: 4.5 stars. Hot and steaming poured from a traditional copper pot, none of the seasoning blends were too over powering, nor did it taste like rose buds.
