LOVE this boutique! Happed upon it when I was taking my new puppy for a walk and she loved sniffing the bins of different treats and picking out her own. We've been to other little dog boutiques but this one is our favorite! They have a great selection of things for chewers and natural, healthy treats with safe ingredients for teething pups! They did a great cut on my giant schnauzer. He went from frumpy and dumpy to beautiful and gets lots of compliments. However, after the groom he got an ear infection, so I don't think they covered his ears properly or they didn't clean them properly. I would give 4 stars because the groom was really good and very quick; they give nice report cards at the end. The grooming time you schedule is not when your groom begins. For example if you have a 1 o'clock appointment they tell you about 4 hours from then you can pick up. Often times they don't begin until several hours after the scheduled time and so you can end up waiting much longer than anticipated if they go over/start late. Makes it difficult to plan my day but also my dog gets stressed waiting in a crate with a bunch of other dogs for long periods so we won't be returning. read more

Doggy styles is the best! It's a local, female owned business, with the most helpful staff, and the BEST groomers. My pup is groomed regularly every 6 weeks by Pedro, who is the best groomer I've seen in DC! He is always so sweet with my pup, and always nails it with her cut. I like her boots cut a certain way and he just nailed it. We come regularly during our long walks just because it's just like a candy store for my pup and she's always greeted with treats and lots of pets. Highly recommend for grooming and all pet supplies! Had a great groomer and wonderful experiences here for several years. Then had a disastrous cut in which my dog was left with a near-bald spot on his butt and a totally shaved groin. He didn't even want to sit down because it hurt to do so. I expressed my concerns to the manager and was ridiculed and dismissed multiple times. Asked for a refund for services not rendered, since this is not what we asked for or expected from having gone here for years. She refused and continued to argue with me about why I was wrong. I came in to get three specific things and was thoroughly helped throughout the whole process. I was particularly impressed by the high quality dog treats that they have. Second visit was ok... there were minor things about the grooming that I didn't like, such as not getting the hair between the pads... and the price hike was significant. I had a really sketchy experience here...be sure to check your credit card statement after going to this groomer. I brought my dog in for a full grooming and paid $110. The next day, there were two charges for $110 on my credit card. I called Doggy Style to let them know and asked them to reverse the second charge. The woman did not help and never followed up. I eventually had to dispute the charge as fraud with my credit card company. In addition, when we arrived, they did not have the correct details regarding my dogs appointment and said they would not be able to accommodate his appointment because they were tight on time. This clearly wasn't true as I had received several texts confirming the appointment details. Once I stated this, they miraculously had time to complete the scheduled services. Overall, it was a really bad experience. In the future, I will go to a groomer that doesn't steal from or lie to its customers. read more

I brought my 7.5 month old Goldendoodle puppy to Doggie Style for his first ever hair cut. Our neighbor, and mom to my puppy's bestie, recommended this place to us since her dog, a Bernedoodle pup gets groomed here. I made an appointment for a Sunday at noon, which coincided with the time at which they open on Sundays, and to my surprise there were about 4 owners and dogs waiting to get in right at noon. After the hoopla died down from all those other owners/dogs we managed to speak to someone. I was told to be VERY specific about the type of haircut I wanted as there can often be misunderstandings with length, style, etc, and it can lead to an unhappy customer. So I explained to them that I only wanted a couple of inches off, to help him deal with the summer heat, but by no means shaved, etc. My doggy was there for nearly 4 hours and was bathed, groomed, nails trimmed, ears cleaned, and he looked GREAT! His haircut was perfect! I was only slightly sad he didn't have on a bandana, since other places do that and the dog just looks SO cute. But they did give me a report card and said he was a pawrfect angel so all in all, great experience! read more

My dog has a very short coat, so I just took him for a bath, brush, and nail trimming. I thought the front desk staff was very friendly, and so was the groomer Mike, who took the time both before and after the appointment to chat with me. My dog came out smelling pretty good and didn't seem traumatized. Great experience and we'll be back for sure. I will say I was surprised by how long the appointment took. I dropped him off on time and was told that there were several dogs in line before him. Apparently the appointment time they book you for isn't the time your dog gets groomed - it's the time your dog gets added to the queue, so to speak. 3.5 hours after dropping him off, I received a text letting me know that he was ready for pickup. Luckily I had come prepared with a book and spent most of the afternoon reading at a nearby coffee shop. I can think of a worse way to spend a Sunday! read more

Look at how sharp Nigel looks with his haircut! I was so scared of not being able to find a decent spot in The District to get my dogs groomed for a reasonable price since leaving NYC but I was immediately put at ease when I found Doggie Style. First off, they are open on Sundays! They accept credit cards and at about $70 a pop, they are in the range of what I paid back in NYC for a full grooming for my Yorkshire Terriers. Nigel and Spencer are used to getting groomed and enjoy a nice bath and brush. They don't wiggle and squirm either when they get their hair cut around their eyes and mouth. How do I know this since I have never actually cut their hair myself? Doggie Style presents you with a report card for your pet on on how they did during their grooming session! It also lays out what services that did for your dog's grooming too! I like that extra touch. Really nice groomer too, I believe his name was Mike. He was gentle and caring with the boys and they smelled so nice. Now they are ready to get with the ladies in the dog park and it's all because of Doggie Style. This will be their regular spot to get whipped up for sure. I haven't bought my dog food there because they don't sell anything but specialty food here and my boys eat Nutro Max so I have to head to Petco for that. I did notice they had a nice selection of doggie clothes and coats though and Nigel is due for a new coat so I'll probably get that there too. Recommended! read more

Cute store with personality. I brought my (insane) terrier here to get his nails cut. Although he's 15 lbs, he can Hulk out when it comes to his nails so I'm always nervous for groomers and make sure they can restrain him during the process. Prices were also very reasonable ($14 for nail trimming). They were super fast and friendly -- they took him to a back room and he was done in less than 5 minutes. The groomer said he didn't even have to restrain him. My dog's nails were still a little long post-trimming, but I'm guessing this shop errs on the side of not cutting into the quick. This tells me they are animal lovers and treat pets with care. So it probably won't be long before I need to bring him in again for nail trimming, but I'll definitely try this place again! read more

Just moved to DC and my pups eat a brand that can't be found at big box pet stores so moving here I was nervous it would be hard to find. My pup was clean as a whistle when I picked her up and her coat was so soft. Mike was very upfront with me and told me that my pup did not need a nail trim, but offered to file them for me free of charge. That saved me $14. Mike was also not afraid or judgmental about my pibble. He talked about how much he loved pit bulls and treated her with the kindness and love she deserves. She recently moved away, so I decided on Doggy Style for Tiger's spa day yesterday. We had a great experience years ago, and I looked for some familiar names on the website and came across Mike who had groomed Tiger in puppy-hood. Mike and Tiger were reunited yesterday. It went well. Mike did a great job, and we will be back to him. Tiger is large, part-Husky- one of the ones who doesn't like water- spoiled, but generally a well-behaved handful. Wandered in on a rainy day with my baby Bella. We were looking for a groomer while we were in town. The place was welcoming and Bella wanted to go in. There is a decent selection of a little bit of everything. A few toys, treats, an assortment of goodies. The owner was helping us when he excused himself to go fuss at what I assumed was a late employee. My assumption was wrong, he was threatening and fussing at a customer. It was incredibly awkward. We stood there waiting to set an appointment for grooming while he tore a new one into this young, irresponsible pet owner. Granted, it sounded like they deserved what they had coming to them, but as a customer is was a complete turn off. We left in the middle of the owner's rant. He didn't notice. read more

I'm giving this place a 3-stars for the following reasons: 1. Good location 2. Clean 3. Quick response (text messages) HOWEVER: I texted this morning if Pedro was in (and what time). I received a reply that he was in and I could walk in for nail service until 4pm. I got there (and my fault for not saying I was the person who had texted, and request Pedro). However they were very quick to get started and took the dog back very quickly. No vaccine records were needed, which surprised me. Anyways, a groomer brings my dog back, quickly (turns out he wasn't Pedro). One of the nail was bleeding. He took her back to put something to stop the bleeding. We paid and we're told by the woman at the counter that nail cutting and nail grinding are priced the same ("makes no difference" she said). We paid $40. We asked about the grinding (with drummel), and told the drummel broke. I asked when they expected to have a working drummel. She said 2 weeks! I mention I had confirmed via text this morning. She stated Pedro was not in and that he has his own drummel. I then realized the groomer was not Pedro. I told her the text confirmed Pedro was in and would be available until 4. A young guy who had been at the desk all along gives her a look and said Pedro was in. He offered to go ask Pedro if he's available. Thankfully Pedro was available. My dog goes back (she resist each time- poor dog). The desk guy brings her back, and tells us it's $6 extra for grinding the nails. We tell him we were told it was the same price. It's us, the woman, and the guy in a price conversation, and the woman says "it's okay, they already paid" and the guy says to us "it's really $6 extra but" whatever, pretty much. Have a great day. Two employees sitting behind the desk and we got conflicting information: Pedro's availability and nail service price. read more

Just like takes a while to find someone to cut my hair the way I like it, it's going to take a while to find someone to consistently groom my dogs hair the way I like it. We've been here for two grooming appts. The first was just a few days after we got our dog...she could barely see through all the fluff and we wanted a puppy trim, esp her face. On their recommendation we brought photos of similar dogs where we liked the cut. Our pup came out great! It was exactly what we hoped for! For the second visit we made an appt with the same groomer and brought exactly the same photos of other dogs, plus photos of our pup on the day of her last groom saying it was perfect. After three hours (!) we got her back. What we wanted clipped close was left shaggy (face, eyes) and the parts we wanted left shaggy were clipped close (body and legs). A week later and she's got hair in her eyes and mouth so we have to get her trimmed again. Plus...we had asked for a nail clipping and when we got to the vet this week she recommended we clip the nails, apparently it was barely done by the groomer. The current store is cramped, up a set of hard stairs, and parking is challenging. If the groom was correct it would be worth the inconvenience. Now that we had to pay for a nail trim five days later and still need her face done so she can see, I'm not sure it's worth it. They're moving soon to a new location with hopefully a less creepy/mysterious grooming room, so I might try it again another time but I'm in no rush to get back. read more

I had a HORRIBLE experience here so wanted to share to offer a head's up. It was awhile ago but I figure a warning can't hurt. I took my dog to be groomed and they were renovating or something so they were only seeing grooming appointments at the groomers home near Logan Circle. We (my pooch and I) went in and I was asked what I wanted done. I asked for a short cut - a "puppy" cut. This term for my type of dog I thought was pretty clear (my bad). It means a short cut all over that looks somewhat like these dogs do when they are a puppy. Maybe it is 2-3 inches all over. When I went to pick up my dog I walked in and all I saw was this thing that looked like the bald cat on that episode of "Friends". I thought "Woha, that is a pretty nasty looking pup." Well that pup was my Boo Boo. The groomer had completely shaved him within an inch of his life. His whiskers were gone, his lashes were gone...he was a mess. I was so shocked and like an idiot I just needed to get out of there. Being in this person's basement made me leery to voice a complaint. It was a tad Psychoesque. I really was in shock. My poor dog was comatose - completely freaked out - I just wanted to get him home. I paid and like an IDIOT even left a tip. Looking back I could kick my own ass. My dog got depressed and was not himself for at least a month until his whiskers started growing back. He was embarrassed. Other dog owners might be able to attest that dogs do express these types of emotions. He hid under the bed for weeks. I asked vets and other groomers and they were all horrified at how closely he was shaved. I have asked every groomer I ever meet to define "puppy cut" and they all say the same thing as I have always known. It is as basic as asking for a "bob" and you get a mohawk! I do not think this groomer set out to harm my dog but he sure did fuck up. I learned my lesson. I suggest if you want to make sure you know what you are getting bring in a picture of your dog with the cut you are intending. Good luck. read more
