On November 11, 2019, my three-year-old dog Sally was hit by a car and killed at K-9 Divine. It's taken me almost two weeks to write this because I am so devastated I can barely move. But with the holidays approaching I want to make sure that Sally's story is told before you make a decision to trust your dog with K-9 Divine. I typically don't write reviews--but this is serious and very hard. Nearly every time I booked Sally to stay at K-9 Divine, I made a special note reminding them that she hates the car. Nevertheless--according to what K-9 Divine told us--on Monday the 11th, as they were loading the dogs into the van to return home (I had just returned from my grandma's 96th birthday in Florida) the staff defied all of their own (and common sense) safety protocols and opened the garage door to the street while Sally was sitting in the garage, unleashed, untethered and unattended. In her effort to avoid the dreaded car trip, she ran out - right into the street where she was hit and killed by a passing car. They admitted negligence and said it had never happened before. But it did happen, and it happened to the most important being in my life. Do not trust them with your dog. My vet, my family and friends share my shock and grief--I carefully chose K-9 Divine and thought it was a good fit for my social, loving, adorable Sally. Now she's gone. It's a living nightmare and my life's goal to prevent this from ever happening again. I imagine K-9 Divine will respond to this review by saying this tragedy will never happen again. From their promotional protocols, it never should have happened in the first place. No apology can make up for their negligence. read more

Can't recommend this place enough! I began sending my dog Sadie here about 6 months ago, going once a week. She loved it! In August, they had a year-long package come available, which made sending my dog every day approximately the equivalent price of a 30 minute walk, but for 4-5 hours of play time. Having a cattle dog, this is great for her to get her energy out, and has led to her being much better behaved at home. I haven't been out to the ranch yet but from their instagram, it looks amazing. I love seeing pictures of her on the instagram. Hands down the best part? They do drop off and pick up in DC! I work long hours, but feel comforted knowing that when my dog gets home before me (usually between 5 and 6) she's tired out and snoozing. Our pitbull mix puppy (9 months old on his most recent visit) has been to K9 Divine three times and has the absolute time of his life there. We love being able to see photos of him making new friends and he always comes home fresh and clean, even when we've seen pictures of him covered in mud playing! The owner Rachel is extremely responsive and we fully trust the van service to pick up and drop off our pup, even if we had to dash out for an early flight. We love knowing that our little guy is having just as much fun on the ranch as we are on vacation and can't recommend K9 Divine enough! read more

Caring, reliable dog care! I can't say enough about K9 Divine. Their van service is extremely convenient when I travel for work (avoiding the hassle of getting my dog to a boarding place). Their staff is amazing. They are responsive and truly care about the pets in their care. They're very flexible as well, I recently injured my knee and called them about an open ended stay for my dog with very little notice. They accommodated my request without hesitation. I don't have words for how wonderful this staff and this place are! My dog has been going to boarding here for a few years now and always has the most wonderful time. The team is responsive and I love all the photos they post so I can keep up with my dog's adventures. We had a recent scare, though, that just solidified my absolute trust in K-9 Divine as the best place for my dog. In what the emergency vet called a "freak accident," my dog experienced a stroke event while at boarding that was completely unrelated to any external factors. I could not be more grateful that he was with Rachel and her team when this happened. Rachel called me immediately to walk me through what happened and personally took him to the emergency vet and made sure he got the fast care he needed. The vet team was able to figure out what happened and react quickly thanks to how closely Rachel was watching him as part of the normal service they have for the dogs in their care. I will continue to send my dog out to this incredible facility for as long as I can. My dog is one of the most important things in my life and there's no place I trust more for his boarding experience. read more

I could not agree more with what the first reviewer wrote. I'm a relatively new dog mom, and a "helicopter" dog mom at that. My dog, Rocco, is my baby. He thinks he's a baby, and he goes everywhere with me. He's a rambunctious, people-and-dog-loving, playful 1 year old mutt, who loves to frolic in the grass and snooze on couches. He can do both of those things at K9 Divine, and is clearly the happiest camper ever. They post pictures of him on facebook throughout the day, so while I'm suffering away at my desk job I can live vicariously through him. We tried boarding Rocco in one of the "cageless" city boarding facilities in downtown DC where he sometimes goes for daycare, and it did not go well. My boy needs to romp, and there was not nearly enough space to romp, and so apparently he was quite unhappy. We boarded him for 5 days at K9 Divine last week, and they were lifesavers in so many ways. Very last minute we ended up needing to leave for our trip a day early, and I frantically emailed them at 10:30pm asking for a pick up the next morning, which they very kindly accommodated. On the day of Rocco's dropoff, they confirmed by email what time he would be dropped off (did I mention they pick him up and drop him off from my downtown DC apartment for free? for free!?!?!?), and also let me know that he had scratched his foot while at camp. They had been treating it, but wanted to make sure I knew about it as well. Well by the time he got home it was almost healed, and I probably wouldn't have noticed it! Makes me trust them even more. So all in all - if your dog likes to frolic and be loved, and you want a tuckered out puppy when you get home, send him/her to K9 Divine. It cost the same as the daycare/boarding place I had previously used in the city, and less that one up in Van Ness. Same price, happier dog, happier dog mom. Thanks K9 Divine! read more

I write this review so poor Sally's owner's review gets more attention. I post this largely because other owners were not informed for two weeks. I believe they only informed us at all because Sally's owner was being rightfully vocal about the death of her dog, as she has every right to be. Her speaking up is a good deed to everyone else. We coincidentally stopped sending our dog four days after Sally died, when we realized he had spent more than six hours in the car that day. We were upset when we realized the total time, as K9 Divine does not make that information known (we had to call to ask). Our dog was there the day that this happened, and went two more days afterward. We would not have sent him for a single day more had we known about this incident. When you are giving access to a beloved family member (and your home for pickup and drop off), trust is paramount. I am left feeling that everyone should think twice before trusting this business. read more

Our lab Quinn has been going to "doggy camp" at K-9 Divine for about 5 years after he started exhibiting signs of stress and boredom with just regular walks/indoor daycare. I cannot rave about K-9 divine effusively enough and I've referred all of my dog parent friends to them. Quinn goes to see his friends at K-9 divine about three days a week and we also use them for boarding. He's picked up and dropped off at home, clean and exhausted after a day of romping outside, snoozing in the sun, or cooling off in the pool. Prices are reasonable, and there are discount packages for multiple dogs or bulk purchases. The staff at K-9 divine are also exceptional, from Rachel (the owner) to the front desk, to the drivers/van personnel. I can't count the number of times they've bailed us out with a last minute schedule change. Everyone is extremely responsive to emails and the online scheduling system is a dream. If Quinn is injured or even seems a bit "off" [like the one time he uncharacteristically tried to start K-9 Divine Fight Club because he was under the weather] the staff notices right away-- I'm confident that they care about him and that he's in expert hands. When we were moving within DC, we refused to move anywhere outside the K-9 divine pick up radius. That should tell you everything you need to know :) read more

I learned about K-9 Divine from a conversation at the dog park. It is no more expensive than a dog sitter, very convenient and much more reliable than sitters. Even if we need to leave early to go to the airport, they can pick up our dog after we leave. On days when they bring him back, he might already be home (and walked) when we arrive. These people go above and beyond; they clearly love dogs. My dog even gets excited when they pick him up. read more

I quite literally do not know what I would do without K9 Divine! I have a very energetic young dog who needs way more exercise than I can realistically give him, living in the city and working a full-time job. K9 Divine is a great solution! Things I love about them: - They pick the dogs off and drop them off! This way I don't have to worry about getting him to or from doggy daycare without a car. - They are so conscientious about the dogs. One time I sent him there for boarding and they let me know he'd developed a hot spot and told me how they'd treated it. When I got home, it turned out his hot spot was very high up on his inner thigh - impossible to see if you weren't paying close attention. This showed me that they really take good care of dogs and watch them very closely. - It's so great that dogs get to play outside all day and have huge amounts of space to run around in. I've visited their site and it's wonderful for dogs. - My dog loves to get muddy, and they always give him a bath. He comes home tired AND clean. - The price is very reasonable for what you get. I've been home a few times when my dog got picked up and he gets SO EXCITED. Clearly he loves this place. read more

One day after arriving for boarding on the very busy Thanksgiving holiday our 9 year old boxer suffered a major seizure. We are very fortunate that at the time he was being watched by Rachel and her incredible staff at K-9 Divine. Throughout the episode Rachel stayed with Mowgli and monitored his condition. It is noteworthy that on one of the busiest days of the year dogs boarding at K-9 Divine were so carefully watched that someone was on top of it at the first sign of a problem. Following a phone call to us (far away in Texas) Rachel let us know exactly what was happening, offered to take him to the local vet or run to get whatever medication our vet wanted him to go on. Additionally Rachel give us her personal phone number so that we could reach her immediately throughout the weekend. We have had many dogs and have boarded them at facilities in several locations over the years and I can say unequivocally that K-9 Divine is is beyond comparison. I can not say enough good things about K-9 Divine. In short: they provide a service that goes above and beyond what I expected and are great caretakers of my pup. More info: We used their daily service once a week. I loved it - my pup was socializing and getting regular exercise. Once a week, my pup was picked up from my apartment on Capitol Hill, taken to the farm, let to run and wrestle with other dogs all day (monitored), hosed off, and dropped back at my apartment. When I got home from work, she would be exhausted and happy. They sometimes post cute pictures from the day on their Facebook page and are very responsive by email. It also meant a lot to me when they called me immediately one time when my pup's previously-acquired injury acted up. They took her out of the play area to rest and bandaged up her foot. We also used their overnight/pet sitting service a few times and it was a great experience. I tell every dog owner I meet about K-9 Divine. If my pup didn't have a banged up ACL, she would still be going. read more

K-9 Divine is a game changer! Based on a recommendation from our dog walker, we sent our four-month-old, insane puppy to boot camp (the boarding + training option) for a week in September. He came back exhausted, bathed, and - best of all - trained. Try getting him to stop sitting! We now use K-9 Divine for all of our boarding needs, and just started sending him to daycare twice a week. They pick him up from our house in DC and drop him off in the evening, which frees him from the crate and gives us the flexibility to do things after work again. On dog camp days, instead of literally bouncing off the walls (or eating the walls), our crazy ball of fur snuggles up, chews a bone, and goes to sleep. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

We love bringing our dogs to K-9 Divine! The staff is great and are very accommodating, especially when we have a last minute request to drop our dogs off. Our dogs (a rottweiler and a pit bull) LOVE going to the ranch, they keep them very active and they run around all day. I also like that they keep the larger dogs and smaller dogs separate, so they get to play with dogs their size. K-9 will also give them baths before pick up (upon request for a fee). Our dog, Lucy, LOVES going to K-9 Divine. It's the one place where we drop her off and she can't wait for us to leave. Have used them for extended stays and long weekends. Lucy seems so happy when we pick her up, but as soon as she realizes we're taking her away from K-9, she starts pulling back, as if in her ideal world, we would come and live with her there. The one area of improvement is communication. They post pictures of some dogs on their Facebook page daily, but they won't send pictures to you directly, there are no webcams, and they don't give any reports during the stay. Lucy has stayed multiple times for 2-week stretches and we have to browse through the FB page every day and are lucky to find two pictures of her total for a 2-week stay. read more

This was our first time boarding with K-9 Divine. It was an excellent experience all around. We live about an hour away and have many local boarding facilities to choose from, but chose K-9 Divine because of the large, tree and grass filled play yards and the numerous couches and dog beds for the dogs to snooze on. We loved seeing pictures of our pups on their Facebook and Instagram page. I emailed a few times while we were gone and the staff was always quick to respond. We love K9 Divine! As the dog mom to 2 large pups who lives in the city with a small backyard, K9 Divine is wonderful! They pups go to day care 3 days a week and come home exhausted. Our dogs love K9 Divine Dog Ranch! No kennels! The dogs run & play with other dogs in a large fenced area, take naps on couches covered by sheets or cots and monitored by the well-trained staff! New dogs have to pass a socialization test. We also board our dogs there when we are away. Long overdue in posting this review as my rescue pup has been a K9-Divine regular for almost a year now! We have been singing the praises of Rachel and her staff to all our pup pals since our first few weeks. The dogs have a huge outdoor space to run and dig and get insanely dirty (but my gal always came home clean and fresh minus her collar - I have never seen so much mud on a collar but proof of how much fun she had!) Well trained staff pick up the dogs and Rachel, the owner/supervisor is a dog behavior specialist. My 65lb extremely active and social rescue pup has gone for daycare and boarding (4 occasions) and regular daycare and always comes back happy and wiped out. She is always more than thrilled to go! She also tried to get in several random white vans on 14t St and laid down next to the paddy wagon just waiting for the officers to take her to K9 camp at 11pm! Its also fun to find that she's met her dog park friends at camp as well! I also can't say enough about Rachel's business practices - very fair and honest and flexible with schedules and packages. K9 Divine is an absolute LIFE SAVER for energetic dogs or owners who occasionally work long or sporadic hours. So so so worth the investment for a social city dog and if you ask around the DC dog parks you will hear the same.
