We had a Dachshund for about 4 years before adding to the family and getting a Doberman Pinscher. I was only used to small dogs so I didn't know what I was getting myself into when Pixie started to grow and grow and grow some more. She is almost as tall as us when standing and definitely much stronger. It started to be a hassle to take her out in the car or in public. She ruled the house because she was the strongest and we had no control over her, she was such a hyper puppy! I knew that my life wouldn't be easy with two dogs, one who was just 20 pounds and could be picked up and controlled and the other who jumped, ran, pulled, and jerked. I just wanted to be able to take her for a walk without her walking me! I didn't even want to push it by wanting to walk them both at the same time though, I knew that was impossible. When we found out about OLK9T, I was a little skeptical at first because I assumed the shock from the e-collar would hurt my dog. I made sure to do some research and even tested it on myself first. I later found out that it doesn't bother Pixie, it just gets her attention. I remember saying "she'll never learn to sit still and stay there until we tell her to break" but she got the hang of that trick on the first lesson (in less than an hour). After just 4 weeks of training she was a sitting, placing, staying, downing, and heeling fool! Her favorite trick is "place" and she sure shows off with that one. She has placed on the strangest objects that nobody would ever think a 60 pound dog could manage to get on. Our family, friends, and neighbors can't believe how much she's progressed - they say she's like a totally different dog now. It's fun to show off her tricks and brag to everyone when she's not running off or when she's staying right by our sides while on a walk. Nick was great with Pixie, he didn't let her get away with any disobedience during training and was adamant about her learning the tricks and commands during the lesson. Nick's patience with her was really good, there were times where we were ready to give up but he kept at it and she eventually caught on. I'm happy to say that I have taken all 80 pounds of my 2 dogs on a walk together by myself. We get compliments when we take her shopping at PetSmart (by the way, don't ever waste your money on PetSmart puppy training - it doesn't work!). It's so funny because as soon as Pixie hears the jingle of her collar she gets super excited. That noise means she's going outside and will probably end up showing off some tricks, so it's actually safe to say she loves the collar and loves learning new things. Doberman Pinschers are in the working dog category and she definitely likes to work and loves a challenge. I don't regret having Nick train Pixie and I'm so glad we spent the money and time at OLK9T because it has made our lives so much easier and I think her tricks and commands will stick with her forever. We decided to bring our rescued pit, Leo, to OLK9 because he was showing many signs of dog aggression when we would go on our walks: lunging, pulling, a very nasty bark and he was extremely difficult to manage even with using a harness for him. We experienced 3 different trainers and we have to be honest that Danny Walker was the best, and most knowledgeable of the trainers we used. He not only helped us to use the collar effectively but took the time to explain why Leo was exhibiting these behaviors to help us understand our dog better. He even started our lesson to correct some things one of the other trainers had us doing and then stayed an extra half an hour after to make sure we got our full hour lesson of what we initially came for. Our only issue with OLK9 is that while it does get your dog to be obedient as long as you put in the time to continue working with them, the methodology does not always work with every dog. We found that the e-collar was not our best option when walking Leo as he still showed the same behaviors and that using the remote actually made him MORE aggressive when he would see other dogs. We set up an extra heel lesson and had John as our trainer, to which his suggestion was to put the remote at 50 and keep it there while we walked. Again, this only made things worse to the point that Leo would snap his head and bark viciously at my wife and I when we would tap the button. It even got to the point where we would get that reaction simply from saying the word 'heel'. Once again, Danny came to our rescue to demonstrate and explain how to help the situation, which included suggesting we look into different types of collars to aid in helping to control Leo. Because of Danny's guidance, we can now walk our baby with the confidence that he will behave the way we need him to. We have even had dogs who Leo used to freak out at walk by with no reaction from the dog and compliments from the owner on how well behaved he is!! The e-collar system is great as long as you have a trainer who will take the time to truly assess your issues and find the best way to help you and your dog. We use the collar with Leo almost every day when we go outside to throw the ball with him or work on his place, down, etc. He is just one of the few dogs that using it while walking in a heel isn't the best method for us and we're lucky to have found Danny to help us through that. read more

Let me start by saying that this is the first review I have ever written and published; I also don't have pets, my family also includes those that are four-legged and furry. About a year ago, my six-month-old fearless shepherd puppy got into some trouble and lost faith that I could protect her, leaving me with a very intelligent but very reactionary puppy. Without doing my homework, I selected a dog trainer that leased space in my vet's office. The end result was the trainer telling me that my sweet, loving little girl was a menace to society and needed to be medicated before she could be around other people or animals. After I stopped crying, I spent days researching dog trainers online, and was impressed by the videos and reviews I found for Off-Leash K9. Try as I did (and I assure I scoured the 'net trying to find something), I could only find one bad review, and that was from someone who hadn't even made an appointment! As a natural skeptic, I started with four basic training lessons. Danny was the trainer for two of them, and I liked the way my puppy responded to him. I signed up for the four advanced training lessons, ensuring that Danny was her trainer, as he seemed to know instinctively the best way to deal with my little girl. I used their teaching methods at home with noticeable progress. Shortly thereafter, I got another beautiful and intelligent shepherd puppy (75 pounds of muscle at six months of age). My new puppy (now 80 pounds) just finished his basic training classes with Danny; my 19-month old puppy (she's only 75 pounds) was also in attendance with Danny's permission. We received suggestions for dealing with both of them, which again we continued to reinforce while home. Earlier this evening, my husband and I were walking both our puppies with the majority of the leashes draped behind our necks, with the puppies maintaining not-quite-perfect heal positions. We passed other people, people with their dogs and a few bikes with just a few reminders to the puppies to maintain their positions next to us. We enrolled our dog in the two week board and train with Christine and we are thrilled with the results! Our dog was loving, but had some major resource guarding issues and was completely disobedient outside the home. We have had dogs all our life, but his issues were something we'd never dealt with before. I was initially nervous about leaving our dog for so long with a stranger, but they were very understanding and spoke with me at least a half dozen times, until I was comfortable. The first day he was there they just allowed him to relax and get used to the new environment, but after that first day, the training began. I received videos each day and I was so impressed by his progress! We picked him up two weeks later, and as promised, he knew all the commands and was obedient. Another reviewer mentioned their dog smelled when they were picked up, this wasn't the case for us. He was a little thin, but frankly he was kind of fat going into and I know they did a lot of walking. He also typically refuses food for the first couple days of boarding, so this is the norm for him. Anyway, my dog is one that tests the boundaries every day, so he does normally have one "come to Jesus" moment before he'll comply. After that, he's golden! It's over six months later and his training has stuck! We still have to use minor corrections to reinforce the training (he still pushes the limit and tries to get away with nonsense), but he is a reformed citizen. Our trainer also taught us how to manage his behavior to get the results we want. We did have to go back a week later for a follow up lesson (we didn't have the collar tight enough so he couldn't feel the corrections), and our dog was so excited to see his trainer! He was his goofy, happy, wiggly, tail wagging self when he saw her! The e-collar we received has worked perfectly and holds its charge for days. We were instructed to change the e-collar position after several hours, to prevent soreness, and so our dog has never had an issue with that. The payment process was a snap, no issue there. So in conclusion, we are thrilled with this program and can't recommend it enough! read more

I could write a short novel in support of OLK9 HQ in Woodbridge! I would trust ONLY these guys to train my dogs. period. There are cheaper trainers that can get you into classes sooner, and many can screw up your dog very badly - there is a reason OLK9 books up 2-3 months in advance and the results you get from this training (for you and your dogs) is worth twice the cost to me. I have two rescue dogs with challenging genetics, fear aggression and other issues. My German Shepherd's breeder is so notorious for "unstable dogs" that I wish I could shut her down. And the Potcake is a survivalist--I literally didn't leave Turks & Caicos with her until consulting with Nick to find out how early I could sign her up for training. Jaeger (GSD) went through 8 weeks of OLK9 basic and advanced obedience, and continued with detection work. Caico went through the 2 week Board & Train program. So I feel pretty confident that I've had a broad spectrum of experience with these guys (and girl) - Nick, Danny, Ciarra, and Tank we worked with most, all bring something different of value and genuinely love the dogs. Nick doesn't tolerate any less than excellent trainers for OLK9 clients. Nick may be blunt (confident, not rude) but I paid them good money because I respected their time, talent and expertise. Training the dog owners is much harder than training the dogs, and there is so much opportunity for an owner to waste this opportunity (or worse, thoroughly confuse the dog). You have to be willing to pay attention, learn and put in some work practicing what they tell you to work on, or you are absolutely wasting the trainer's time. Visit their YouTube channel, look at all the before/after videos and you will be amazed--I can assure you that the results in the videos are real (and fast). Nick and his team are absolute magicians, and there is NO WAY I would ever have a dog NOT trained by them. My family deserves it, and the dogs certainly deserve to have a happy, confident life. My wife and I signed up our 6 month old Belgian Malinois, Jack, for the * lesson program. We worked with OLK9 staff in Richmond, Va--Matt and Matt. They were both knowledge and patient. They care about the dogs they train. Previously we had taken Jack through the "puppy obedience class" at the local AKC club. Jack was a quick study but performed inconsistently unless treats were provided. Jack still pulled while on the leash and was difficult to control when distractions were introduced. We decided that we needed to take a different approach if we were to get the most out of Jack. My wife researched different programs and settled on OLK9. By the end of the 4th lesson at OLK9, we were convinced we had made the right decision. Jack became more focused and responsive. Once we finished the 8 weeks, we had Jack take a 2 week board and train course while we went on vacation. Another great investment! Jack came back from his two week at an even higher level of performance. Jack just turned 1 year old. He still has a bit of puppy in him; but OLK9 training has enabled us to bring out his full potential. We walk Jack off leash everywhere...we can. When on leash, he no longer pulls...his leash is always slack. He is obedient...and happy...and always ready to work or play...and obey. At first we were concerned about the use of the e-collar. The Matt's were able to ease our concerns. At first we had to use a 4 to 6 setting with Jack...and once even a 12 to get his attention (the control goes from 0 at the lowest to 100 the highest. Now Jack responds to 0 and when presented with a distraction (a new dog or person) we may have to use 2 or 4. Even when Jack obeys. One thing that we would emphasize with anyone who is considering signing their dog up for OLK9 training, is that they need to prepared to invest time in working with their dog between classes. We were aware of Off Leash K9 because of the amazing results my parents had with their German Shepard at the original location in Woodbridge, VA. We, however, live in South Texas and found a franchise location in San Antonio. We brought our six month old yellow lab,Paisley, to them for the two-week board and train option. After picking up Paisley, we were less than pleased with the results. Months later I got around to leaving negative feedback and was blown away by the immediate response. Bennett, our border collie/husky mix, graduated from the two week Board & Train program one year ago in June 2017. I cannot say enough wonderful and gracious words about Off Leash K9 Training (especially Robert with OLK9 of Fredericksburg)! Prior to OLK9, Bennett was just another rambunctious pup who would bolt out the front door any chance he got and jump up to lick the face of any new human he met. Living in the city, the bolting habit of his was very dangerous. And being 50lbs, the jumping habit was worrisome when it came to kids & elders. To top it off, he was independent and stubborn. I tried working with him through local training programs, met with a few trainers 1x1, and read multiple books - yet, I found myself struggling to find the time (and skill) to provide the consistent training he (we) needed. Before calling OLK9, I spent many hours researching. I was worried the 'e-collar' and rigorous training would take away his spunk. I can happily tell you - this definitely did not happen! Just finished with the 8-session dog aggression training program! We had originally tried some e-collar training with someone else in the area and his methods (we thought) made his reactive behavior worse. I feel this added an even larger obstacle when it came to correctly addressing our dog's leash reactivity towards other dogs. It was so refreshing to see how thoughtful Off-Leash was to correctly establish the right mentality with e-collars and how to help us feel comfortable using them. I do believe there was progress with our dog and our ability to train him. There were a couple downsides to our training experience however. First was the inconsistency of trainers, not so much in the beginning of training, but mostly when we started tackling the aggressive issues. This is partially because of my nursing schedule and partially because I wanted any lesson I could take when they became available due to desperation. Morgan and Mountain became consistent for us the last couple of weeks and were extremely helpful, but I know if we had stayed consistently with either of them our progress could've been greater. It's pretty expensive as well, especially to not see the progress we were hoping for... our pup continues to have outbursts when dogs come too close on walks or if they surprise him even at a distance. With all this being said, I do feel equipped to continue to train and teach my dog as the days move forward. The trainers are all very understanding and have a great knowledge base when it comes to reading the signs of dog aggression. I am so thankful for this training we did and just hope between my husband and I we can get our pup further towards success! read more

All of our lessons were with Morgan and she was wonderful. Our rescue dog is smart, but opinionated. With Morgan's help he has stopped running out the door, and I now feel comfortable walking him, taking him to dog parks, and letting him have more freedom at home then he could when we first adopted him. The method was compassionate and careful, I always felt comfortable with the explanations and the level of stimulation, as she kept it very low the whole time. Morgan really made sure I understood what was going on and what I should be doing to teach Trooper. We did four lessons of "basics", including sit, place, come, and down. Because my dog picked things up so quickly they threw a few other things for me to work on, like distance down and firming up his commands with other dogs around. The first half of the lesson Morgan worked with my dog, while explaining what she was doing, the second half of the lessons was me working my dog, and Morgan helping me with the technique. So glad we used Off-leash K-9 as they've helped or dog fit into our family and eliminated all of the stress he was causing with bad behaviors. Last week I took my dog to a park and was able to let him run around and have fun because I knew he was going to listen. The most important part of these lessons is understanding the method, so that you can do the "home work" every day. Without doing the home work (which was 30-60 minutes/day practice), you're not going to see results. It's definitely a commitment. I do wish there was some sort of "hand out" for the homework, as keeping track of the method - especially after the first lesson - was kind of confusing. read more

After my girlfriend and her King Shepherd had finished the 8 lesson Basic and Advanced Obedience package (with amazing results thanks to her trainers), I decided to sign up my 5 month old Belgian Malinois, Titan, for the same package as well. As some of you might know, to which I did not before getting my Mal, is that Belgian Malinois are very intellectual, energetic, athletic and overall incredible dogs; but they are not for everyone. I quickly learned that Titan was going to be quite a handful and was very eager to start his training. On our first lesson (come and sit) I had the pleasure of having Mountain as our trainer. He absolutely fell in love with Titan because he too owns multiple Mal's. I really enjoyed having a trainer who knew a lot about and has worked with the same breed as I had. We continued to have Mountain for the next two lessons where he did an excellent job at not only training Titan but also teaching me how to work with him outside of class. The one remaining basic lesson and four advanced lessons I had the amazing trainer Kristina, who also has two Mal's and specializes in Belgian Malinois training. She did an amazing job working with Titan and if I had to trust anyone to take care of him she would be the first person I would call. Overall, the entire Off Leash K9 staff I've come in contact with has lived up to their reputation. The Woodbridge location is easily accessible and everyone there truly seems to care about each individuals dog and making them the most obedient companion they can be. 5/5 would highly recommend. We did go to one other trainer before we found off-leash K9. (It was treat based) After showing her the scars and scabs on my arms she told me if she does that to just stop don't move until she stops the behavior. I said what about my arms and my legs she goes wear thicker jeans. I did try it but I just ended up a dripping mess with blood all over my arms & legs. Many many scars. She's a big puppy she's about 85 lb at 6 months now. She didn't have to jump very far to get my arms. She didn't do it out of anger she was playing with me like she would have played with another puppy. Needless to say we were at our wits end. I reached out to friends and got a recommendation for off-leash K9. We were simply amazed with one lesson our dog has stopped biting me; chasing /knocking down the grandchildren and bullying our nine-year-old Saluki mix. We are so pleased. It felt like magic We have signed her up for the 2-week board and train. We just can't express how impressed we were with our trainer. He even won our six month old Dane over. She was giving him kisses when he was leaving. The e-collar is great it doesn't take much at all just to remind them to listen. I couldn't feel it until I had it turned up to 25. My dog responds at 4. If anyone's ever had back issues and used a TENS unit that's what it's like. I was a little leery at first too because I didn't like the idea of a shock collar but it's really not like what I thought it would be. Mr. Haydon was awesome with our girl. Would highly recommend. I was flabbergasted at how fast Offleash K9 Training was able to get my dog Sophie to respond 100% to the "come" command during our first lesson. I would say Offleash K9 achieved this within the first ten to fifteen minutes of the lesson. From that point it was mostly reinforcement until about halfway through the lesson. Then Offleash K9 showed my wife and me how to use the e-collar remote and taught us how to do the training ourselves. Sophie was a high-spirited dog and showed dominance behavior with us. We had given her group lessons where training was done by rewards only and after ten lessons, there was not much success with Sophie. After only the first lesson with Offleash K9, Sophie not only responded 100% of the time with us, but she also quit trying to dominate us. It was like she found new respect for us and she became the dog we were looking for when we got her. Each lesson we've had with Offleash K9 (3 to date) has gone the same way...about 10 minutes to get Sophie to understand the training and respond 100%, reinforcement, then training us to train Sophie. Each time I am amazed at how fast Offleash K9 gets results, and he does this in a calm, professional manner. Once Sophie has been trained, it sticks with her...she does not forget. This makes it easy for us to continue the reinforcement in between lessons. My wife and I enjoy showing our neighbors on how well she is trained and they can hardly believe what they see. I took my daughters 9 month old German Shepherd to OLK9T in December 2018. (Daughter was moving out of state so pup was with me for a short time.) Murphy was your typical "out of control puppy." Mountain was there to meet me at the facility when I dropped him off for his 2 week board & train. Mountain kept me up to date with several video's of Murphy's progress. To say the least, I was absolutely amazed at the difference. When I picked him up at the facility in Woodbridge, Mountain was there to greet me and give ME lessons on how to continue the training with Murphy. I definitely felt I got what I payed for. I have complete trust in Mountain and his ability to train dogs and there is no doubt he is a true dog lover as he owns several himself. Kudos to OFK9T for accepting the responsibility of training Murphy (knowing that he would eventually be going back to his true mom in a few months.) The absolute best part of this deal is that there is a life-long guarantee that the dog can get any future remedial training (owner too) no matter where they live. My daughter found a facility in the area she is now living and they are there to help her with any questions or training either of them might require for FREE! My dog Sophie is a Belgium Malinois and was trained by Nick White before he founded Off Leash K9 Training. Sophie had a very dominate personality, like most Malinois. Nick had her performing perfectly all the basic obedience commands like sit, down, heel, come, and distant down in only four lessons. It was jaw dropping how fast he was able to get Sophie trained, and he trained me and my wife as we went along. That was over eight years ago and Sophie still obeys all her commands with no problems. We put her e-collar on her every day and keep the remote handy, but I hardly ever have to give her a correction with the e-collar. She does really well with the heel command. I frequently walk her in our neighborhood and I remember being so proud of her as we walked right past a squirrel and Sophie did a quick glance at the squirrel, but stayed perfectly in heel position. Nick taught Sophie the touch command where he would point to a position high on a tree, or wall, and Sophie would stand on her hind legs and touch the spot we pointed at.
