Shrimp Po Boy.
Christy M.

If you are in Paducah, run, do not walk to this beyond amazing restaurant. Not huge or fancy but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. I got the friend shrimp lunch. Mom got the Shrimp Po'Boy. Adam got a ginormous cheeseburger. I'm still thinking about that Shrimp Plate. The service was perfect and if Adam grows up to be like our server I would be very proud. His manners were impeccable! He was prompt, attentive, knowledgeable and unfailingly polite. If I could rate this restaurant higher than five stars I would.

Solid steak for the money. Took a while to get there but it was worth it. Service was solid too. No complaints.

Wasn't in the mood for steak so I ordered the fried shrimp. The shrimp were delicious. Fried perfectly and the breading was crispy. The cocktail sauce was average, I like it with more horseradish. Good thousand island dressing for the salad. Service was super friendly and attentive. Ambiance was good, decor was cool. Interesting spot. Had to park a bit far.

Cool corner restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. We dined outdoors and ordered salads. Mine was a Steak and Blue Cheese salad that was absolutely delicious. It was huge so I had to take half home. The perfectly seasoned and medium rare filet cuts were my absolute favorite. Husband's salad was just as satisfying and let's not forget their yummy house made lemon garlic sauce that accompanied both our salads. I'd put that on everything if I had the recipe! I also ordered the beef enchiladas which seemed dry. I'm no expert on enchiladas though but felt it needed a sauce. Also ordered a cup of seafood gumbo which was rich and flavor packed! Indoor is quite rustic and dark. The wait staff is friendly and check on their guests often. If we lived in the area, we'd visit often.

This is the best steak house in Kentucky by comparison to Jeff Ruby's it is by far the best I have ever ate at. Go before 4 pm and you can eat a black and blue salad go after and eat the best steak you can ever eat love this place!!!

Ribeye, gumbo, tamales

Date night had me looking forward to this place for a week. Warm cozy restaurant with delicious food. My mouth was prepared for tamales and the gumbo since the pictures posted online looked good. It did not let me down. My dates ribeye was juicy and cooked to order. Service was a bit slow but I would go back.

Amazing carrot cake!

Had dinner with friends here, what a great dining venue! Very cool area, lots of history...and the food! The steaks were great, but the carrot cake was AMAZING....our waitress was also outstanding, if you are in Paducah this is a must try!!!

Who is in Missouri for the total solar eclipse. I had friends who were staying in Paducah Kentucky who invited me to join them for lunch on the day before the eclipse. We went Doe's Eat Place in downtown Paducah. We started our meal with an appetizer of hot tamales. I then had the fried catfish plate. Everything was wonderful. The staff were kind and courteous. Our food arrived promptly, even though they had a huge crowd of people. The ambience of the restaurant was that an older restaurant and so cute. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This was our sides, chili was great and salad was good.

The locals greeted me like I'd just come back from a long trip instead of walking in for the first time. Either they're incredibly friendly or they thought I needed supervision. Either way, solid welcome. Service was minimal in the best possible way. No hovering, life story, or unnecessary check-ins. Just quick, friendly, and efficient, like they understood I came to eat, not start a long term relationship. Now here's where things take a turn: the food has no business being this good. I ordered the Southside Supreme Pizza, and I'm still trying to figure out how a place that looks like it could host a darts league championship is casually putting out world class pizza. I've had pizza from all over the world and this place can hold its own. Thin, perfectly crispy crust, fresh ingredients, and enough cheese to make you question your priorities but not your choices. It's like the pizza didn't get the memo about where it was being served. So yeah, I give it 5 stars. Come for the dive bar charm, stay because the food quietly outperforms half of the "fancy" places that make you wait 45 minutes for a table and then serve you a disappointment on a wooden board. I'll definitely be back. Next time I might even try to look like I belong.

We both are fans of "Top Chef" and since her restaurant is within reasonable distance of home, we planned a trip around it. In fact, we made reservations for two nights in a row, to take in as much of the menu as possible! Between the two different days, we tried a number of appetizers, entrees and desserts. If I were to do this again the same way, I would do one day of apps and dessert and one day of entrees, just to spread things out a bit. What we ate: - Fall pickles: I enjoyed this, with the bit of chili heat, especially the cauliflower - Stuffed Mushrooms: I love mushrooms, and these blended creamy, sweet and hot with a filling of cream cheese, berry BBQ sauce and smoked jalapeno - Pistachio and herb chevre cheeseball: a fresh cheese enhanced by nutty and Herby notes - Smoked bologna: my husband's choice; very meaty and there was a lot of it - Spicy beer cheese spread: a very Midwestern feeling appetizer with tasty veggies and crackers Entrees: -Shrimp and grits: my choice: comforting southern food with lots of flavor - Duck fried rice: his choice: rich rice offset by more delicate vegetables - Sticky ribs: my choice: the pumpkin spice and coffee liqueur glaze worked well for a cozy, wintry meal - Braised pork shoulder: his choice; served with beans and cornbread, this was another hearty, comforting meal with a Southern twist. Desserts: - Winter creme brulee: this was my favorite, flavored with mulling spices, orange and pomegranate We also enjoyed a seasonal sorbet and the fall spice cake. We had the same server both nights, Elizabeth, who was good at making recommendations, and also staggering the small plates on our small table so we wouldn't be overloaded. Chef Sara was in house the second night, bringing dishes to tables. The setting is relaxed, not overly loud, with moody lighting. Overall, we would certainly return to Freight House!

I'll give them 4.75 stars, but they did fantastic so I'll round up for this place. First, we walk in the door and Zack walked past and complimented the boss on her snazzy shirt and a few other staff were friendly too so the vibe was nice to start off. We were then led to our table to discover Zack is our server for the night. Another compliment on the bosses glasses, okay she did look great - Thanks Zack! Drinks come out super fast and we get our food ordered. Zack was great helping with Alpha Gal and later following up with the kitchen staff that they had in fact not put butter on my fish - another win. I ordered the red fish special (I think) with a baked potato and the boss got the Harris Platter. Zack recommended blackened and was so right, delicious! I tried her fired catfish and that was delicious too, but would have dipped it in hot sauce, but the cocktail sauce was so yummy with a nice horseradish bite - delicious and maybe better than hot sauce (slander I know). That 0.25 off - well the hushpuppies were kinda gross and bland. This is the south so quality hushpuppies are a must. Ask for Zack, you will not be dissapointed.

There are nights when offering a critique feels unpleasantly simple. Diners risk little more than…read morethe cost of a meal and the disappointment of an evening gone sideways. Still, it's never enjoyable to recount an experience that falls short at every turn--especially when the failures were preventable. My visit to Stella's, regrettably, was exactly that. From the start, it was clear that the staff lacked even a foundational understanding of Celiac disease. Questions about gluten safety were met with visible uncertainty and no real assurance that the kitchen could confidently prepare a safe meal. That uncertainty became reality when my entrée -- a steak and baked potato -- arrived with gluten on the plate. Not near it. Not questionable cross-contact. On the plate. Naturally, it had to be sent back. This misstep kicked off a cascade of delays that stretched my wait time to nearly an hour, even though we were among the very first guests seated at 5:00 p.m. Meanwhile, my dining companion's meal arrived correctly and on time. I insisted they eat, because by the time my corrected meal showed up, theirs would have gone stone cold if they had waited out of courtesy. The absurdity didn't stop there. The to‑go order I placed after we were seated--intended for someone else--was finished before my actual in‑house entrée ever arrived. Even the wine I ordered to accompany the steak made its way to the table long after the pairing was relevant, arriving more like a begrudging afterthought than part of a well-paced dining experience. When the final bill reached $250, it underscored the frustration even more. At that price point, diners are not paying for mediocrity. They are paying for competence, safety, professionalism, and a level of service that respects their time and their dietary needs. It is not unreasonable to expect top‑notch service when the tab climbs that high. And this incident is not isolated. Increasingly, restaurants in Paducah that position themselves as "quality dining" are missing the mark on training, pacing, and basic hospitality. Yet, as a community, we lack a consistent or constructive way to hold establishments accountable or to encourage them to maintain standards worthy of the prices they charge. If we hope to preserve both the integrity of our dining scene and the value of our wallets, we need better mechanisms for clear, honest critique -- and for restaurants to listen. Stella's, on this visit, offered little more than disappointment and a glaring reminder that good intentions are no substitute for proper training, coordination, and care.
