From out of town and the front desk recommended we dine here for a great steak! This place is good not great! I called first to see if we needed a reservation as it was about 4:45 pm. We were told no just come on in! The greeter was an older gentlemen who asked if we had a reservation. I explained that had just called and he seated us. I had the feeling he was not that happy to see us. The table location was poor. The waiter was nice and adequate. The service was ok. I had the filet and my grand daughter had the chili and tamales. Both were good. The steak is not on par with Ruth Chris but it is good. I would eat here again. The steam vegetables? Well they are just steamed and plain. The salad was a very basic salad with bacon on top. It was good served on a flat plate so pieces of lettuce fall off while you are eating it! Maybe that me? This place is a gem! A great location in downtown Paducah with a really cool atmosphere. Brick walls, raw floors and cool waitstaff. I like a menu that focuses on a few good things done well. Appetizer of tamales and chili is a must! As a tamale novice, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about them. They're great! Flavorful meat filling surrounded by creamy - um, corny, creamy tamale outside. What is that stuff called? Chili was good, too! Spicy, thick and a lil sweet. The steaks - OH THE STEAKS! Really good quality meat, not heavily seasoned. The nice beefy taste really prevails. Ours were cooked PERFECTLY. My hubs ordered the 3 lb steak for himself! I had the ribeye still HUGE at around 17 ounces. Plenty for two. Fries are hand cut and served hot and crispy. My cousin lives near Paducah and we wanted a special treat to thank them for their hospitality. The downtown area of Paducah is super charming and I love supporting small businesses so this was a perfect spot. We started off with their historic tamales. The restaurant opened in the 40s and this was all these sold initially. It's great to see they have carried on that history in the form of lovely appetizer with optional spicy chili on top. We opted for three of the beef tamales without chilly so we could really taste them. Lots of meat great texture, it didn't disappoint. My husband and I decided to share the ribeye which was a smart choice because it's quite large and we had the salad and opted for our second side to also be a salad so we could each have something healthy. They offer homemade dressings and we tried the ranch in the Italian. I'd highly recommend either. A highlight was their new fashioned cocktail! Using buffalo trace bourbon, bitters, splash of ginger rail, and some nice citrus all topped with one elusive sour cherry. (I regret not begging for two more of those!) Nice atmosphere, casual yet cozy. We arrived right when they opened and the old building was a bit chilly but I'm sure that changed over the evening as they grilled many wonderful steaks. read more

This was our first time eating at Doe's. We made reservations for a birthday dinner. We arrived at our reservation time, and the restaurant did not appear to be busy. We were sat at a table in the bar area by the front door which had not been cleaned and still had ketchup on it. We asked if we could have better seating and were told the second room was being set up for a large party and there was no other seating available. Since this was our first time here we were not aware of the third room. Another couple came in shortly after us and since we were right next to the receptionist desk, we could hear that they did not have a reservation. When they were told they would be seated in the bar, they complained and were immediately taken in the back to the third room where the seating is much nicer. We had to wear our jackets all the time eating dinner because of the front door being open and closed and the cold air coming in. Paying this much for a dinner, I would expect more than a baked potato that was not overcooked with the sour cream and butter in condiment packages no different than I would get at a fast food restaurant. I wish I would have taken pictures. For my partners 50th Bday we decided to come to Kentucky and visit Doe's Eat Place. I had something completely different in my mind of what this place would be like. I was told the original Doe's was a speakeasy and even had watched a documentary on it. I have always been told about their steaks and I expected a more fine dining restaurant. This was not what we experienced today. I will highlight the pros. Great location. Great cut of steak. Loved the housemade salad dressing. Hand cut fries were also great. We were there at lunch and we thought the prices were quite reasonable. Cons were plenty. Under seasoned and overcooked steak. I do not have an issue if the theme of a place is rustic and I love exposed brick, but this place just looked junky and a bit dirty. Weird random flags all over and empty boxes randomly placed on a ledge. No tablecloth's and the floor was beat up. I went to the restroom and the exposed brick "dust" was all over the floor which made me wonder when the last time they actually swept was. Sadly, this place is terribly overrated. I'm not saying it was bad enough to never go back but I will not be recommending it either. Too long a drive for us to ever want to come back. But we have no issue driving and hour for a restaurant that is worth the drive. read more

First, let me state for the record, I have dined at Morton's, Ruth Chris, Chop House, Del Fresco's and Doe's Eat Place is not even on the same page with any of these steakhouses. We were seated and given menu's, fifteen minutes later our cocktail order was taken, 10 minutes later cocktails show, 10 minutes later our dinner order taken, second round of cocktails ordered, 10 minutes later cocktails show, 15 minutes later our salads arrive, no bread...we asked for the bread, we were given a basket of crackers....8 minutes later bread shows up after everyone had finished the salad round. Now about five minutes later here comes the main course. There were (6) in our party. Five of us had a beef cut of some kind and one fish dinner. No one had a complaint in regards to their entree, it was just having to deal with poor service. And if you like it loud as if you are dining at Texas Roadhouse, then you will love Doe's. On a scale of 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest. Doe's East Place gets a (3). Doe's will not see me or receive any kind of recommendation. It was highly recommended that we go here for lunch and have The Black and Bleu Salad. We were told Doe's is known for their fillet and that we'd get a generous amount of steak on our salad... including cuts of fillet. To say it was good is an understatement. Doe's does not have great ambiance and it was a bit cold, but the waitress was wonderful and the food was amazing! The salad was huge! The steak was done to perfection. Okay my friends. If you want a burger this is the spot. Hands down I don't even think we can debate it!! By far the largest burger I've gotten in Paducah and try as I might everytime I cannot finish it in one sitting! The toppings are always crisp fresh and plentiful! There beer is cold and the wait staff is very friendly! Also highly knowledgeable too so if you are visiting Paducah and have questions about a thing or two I'm sure they will help you out if they can! The Ambiance is steeped in culture and history. Though not formal in anyway. You won't need to dress up for this one but you can if you want to! My husband and I came here last year as we passed through Paducah and remembered the STEAK. The price has definitely gone UP! I don't remember looking inside last time but this time I did. The ambiance is definitely missing. Very worn paint, bad smell and just lacked care! They obviously focus on the food specifically steak and tamales. Everything else here shows minimal effort. It was 6 pm on a Sunday night, the salads are crisp mainly lettuce with barely any diced tomatoes and red onion sliced thick. The house dressing served in a plastic container most restaurants use for take out. The dressing had way too much oil even after shaking! For fine dining and a $54 filet...? Also ordered steamed veggies and a baked potato barely warm and obviously sitting most of the day. Butter and sour cream is served in packets. Garlic bread looked like thin white toast with melted butter. No appreciable garlic flavor at all. Outside metal furniture without even a placemat . The sidewalk needed sweeping badly from dirt and previous customers. Needless to say we won't be back. read more

Got to the location and their system was down so they could only take cash. Since we did not have much cash on credit /debit. Stop the car, get out and visit downtown Paducah! We drive through Paducah several times a year either heading South or heading home. This time we stopped. We selected the public parking close to the river and based on all The Reader's Choice stickers on the window headed into Doe's. We were promptly greeted and taken to our table. Once they learned we were new customers they suggested what they are known for; steaks, tamales, and the spaghetti. I have been craving chili cheese fries during this wet cool spring and these were the best!!! While not on the menu as an item, I created my own with an order of the hand-cut fries and a bowl of chili with cheese. Add the tamales, we shared a small order of tamales and chili and soon realized why you could order 12 tamales with chili. Nearly every table in our section started with an order of tamales and chili as they were being seated. Do try a steak, split it, take some home for tomorrows steak and eggs. Definitely, a great cut of beef. Keep a menu and read the history always cool to find out the history behind a long-running family restaurant. Came here with my wife to have a nice relaxing dinner because of a hard week of work. Had heard about the 3 lb porterhouse and the carrot cake. We arrived at about 6 pm and we were a little late on our reservation, I did call and confirm that we were going to be late. Upon arrival we were greeted by the seater and she said you would have to have a mask. My wife had a scarf that she readily pulled up and I pulled up my T shirt to cover my face. We must have been approved so she continued to seat us. On our way to being seated, Jerry a worker with seemingly a lot of Authority, aggressively started yelling at us and saying you'll have to have a mask. I took a napkin from where we were going to sit and Jerry was quick to chastise me and said don't do that you can not use the napkin for a mask. So we started to leave and at that point Jerry changed his tune and said we have one available if you would like use. At that point after being embarrassed by the patrons listening to all this, I was happy to oblige. I was starving by then. The rest of the eating experience was ok and we spent almost $200 on the 2, 3lb steaks and carrot cake. But having to endure the ridicule at the entrance to the restaurant gave me a bad taste in my mouth. My wife and I will never come back to this restaurant. Jerry's behavior was unacceptable especially to a new customer. I have to remember that good customers come at a premium. read more

As a vegan vegetarian, i enjoyed the House Salad, which has a divine vegan citrus dressing. My hubby was incredibly wOwwed by the steak, served perfectly as he Likes, infact, superior quality than expected. The server was so Way Kind to us, a fellow musician too, and at the end of the night, he even gave me a to-Go Happy birthday slice of caramel cheese cake with a lit candle! Max's Cafe was closed so we tried Doe's a couple doors down. We shared tamales, which were excellent ( except not wrapped in corn husks). My husband had Mahi Mahi and I had grilled Chicken Marinara. We ate there a couple of weeks ago. The food was extremely overpriced for what we got. Both steaks came out severely underdone. My fillet was supposed to be medium and was completely raw in the middle. The ribeye we ordered was supposed to be medium rare and was very rare (barely seared on both sides). I rarely send food back but considering the steaks were $60 each I asked they be thrown back on the grill to get to the temperature we ordered. When they came back out they were both medium well. The salad was good but the house dressing came out in a plastic cup and was very oily ( it was an oil base but a little much). The baked potato and veggies were good. For a $200+ meal I will definitely go elsewhere next time. A trip to Longhorn would have been better and 1/3 of the price. Very disappointed. read more

I ordered the lobster tails and steamed veggies. I can not recommend based on my experience. The tails were totally undercooked. I enjoyed the vegetables but, for most people the garlic would've been way too much. My companions steaks were undercooked based on the way they requested them although they said the flavor was great. To the restaurants credit, we did not send our food back to the kitchen so they did not have the opportunity to make it right. If I return it will be to try the tamales and chili. I came here with a friend based on the yelp reviews and I was VERY impressed with the quality and flavor of their filet Mignon and lobster tail. It was superb. It was slightly pricey but it was well worth it. They offer $3 mint Julips on Sunday, but you have to ask for it, as it's not advertised. Our waiter Jim, was nice but took him an extremely long time to bring our appetizers, and at times he would not hear what we even asked for. Like I asked for different dressed because their house dressing tastes more like a bland ramekin of olive oil. The bread was delicious as it has pieces of garlic encrusted within its dough. Everything was amazing, service could've been better, but it was a very busy night and they seemed short staffed. Place was clean and was seated immediately. Ordered a 6 oz steak sandwich and an order of tamales. Sandwich was not a solid piece of meat. It was the trimmings off of other steaks. It was still good but menu said it came with lettuce tomato and onion on the side but there was none on our plate. Food was good. Bathroom was ridiculous. Water in the sink and floor no hand soap but a bottle of Dawn dishwashing liquid. No paper towels in the automatic dispenser but on top of it. It needed some attention. Small place with a corner location in the heart of the downtown riverfront. Great selection of wine, beer and spirits. Menu is small. Steaks, fish and a couple pasta dishes for dinner plus tamales and chili as apps. I tried the tamales and they were delicious. Probably should have paired them with a small bowl of the chili. The steaks are all too big. 10oz filet is the smallest they have... Everything else is 24oz or bigger. The meat is well seasoned and cooked to perfection. (Medium) Came with a salad, side and bread. My side was baked potato. Bread was outstanding. I believe it came from the bakery down the street. (Kirchhoff). All in all a nice dining experience bolstered by live music in the bar area.
