There are nights when offering a critique feels unpleasantly simple. Diners risk little more than the cost of a meal and the disappointment of an evening gone sideways. Still, it's never enjoyable to recount an experience that falls short at every turn--especially when the failures were preventable. My visit to Stella's, regrettably, was exactly that. From the start, it was clear that the staff lacked even a foundational understanding of Celiac disease. Questions about gluten safety were met with visible uncertainty and no real assurance that the kitchen could confidently prepare a safe meal. That uncertainty became reality when my entrée -- a steak and baked potato -- arrived with gluten on the plate. Not near it. Not questionable cross-contact. On the plate. Naturally, it had to be sent back. This misstep kicked off a cascade of delays that stretched my wait time to nearly an hour, even though we were among the very first guests seated at 5:00 p.m. Meanwhile, my dining companion's meal arrived correctly and on time. I insisted they eat, because by the time my corrected meal showed up, theirs would have gone stone cold if they had waited out of courtesy. The absurdity didn't stop there. The to‑go order I placed after we were seated--intended for someone else--was finished before my actual in‑house entrée ever arrived. Even the wine I ordered to accompany the steak made its way to the table long after the pairing was relevant, arriving more like a begrudging afterthought than part of a well-paced dining experience. When the final bill reached $250, it underscored the frustration even more. At that price point, diners are not paying for mediocrity. They are paying for competence, safety, professionalism, and a level of service that respects their time and their dietary needs. It is not unreasonable to expect top‑notch service when the tab climbs that high. And this incident is not isolated. Increasingly, restaurants in Paducah that position themselves as "quality dining" are missing the mark on training, pacing, and basic hospitality. Yet, as a community, we lack a consistent or constructive way to hold establishments accountable or to encourage them to maintain standards worthy of the prices they charge. If we hope to preserve both the integrity of our dining scene and the value of our wallets, we need better mechanisms for clear, honest critique -- and for restaurants to listen. Stella's, on this visit, offered little more than disappointment and a glaring reminder that good intentions are no substitute for proper training, coordination, and care. read more

Five stars aren't enough! From the historical charm to the innovative menu, Stella's is a standout. On the recommendation of our excellent servers, I tried the Ramen. It was a revelation--savory beef and a rich, spicy broth that converted this non-ramen fan instantly! My wife's halibut was cooked to perfection, complemented beautifully by the risotto and earthy grilled beets. We capped off the night with a seasonal pumpkin crème brûlée and a whimsical touch of free cotton candy. Fantastic find! Our server Enetria made it extra special. Had the filet with garlic butter and cut it with a butter knife , hubby had the steak salad and the tuna app. I think the cornbread pre-meal was the icing on the cake. The place looks nice when you walk in. They bring out complimentary cornbread bites. They were just okay. Kind of dry but that's cornbread for you. We got the crab dip for an appetizer. It was pretty good. The house made chips were good a nice touch. I ordered the Grouper. In my opinion it wasn't seasoned well at all. It definitely needed more flavor. The fish did not taste fishy at all so that was a plus. The bed of rice my fish was on had extremely crunchy pieces in it. Not like undercooked rice but like rice that was stuck to the bottom of a pan and scraped out...extremely crunchy. I cleared my plate because I paid $41 for it and it was edible. Just not really enjoyable. My husband got the steak and he left part of it on the plate because it was so stringy and tough. It came out already sliced into pieces for you which in my opinion is a red flag when getting steak at a restaurant. My daughter got a loaded baked potato and a Caesar salad. She enjoyed it. The sticky toffee pudding was very underwhelming. I had it before at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant and it was one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. This was nothing like it. It almost tasted like a frozen bundt cake that was heated up and served. The ice cream on top was good. Our waiter was very friendly and polite. Food was just very underwhelming for $150.00. When you are traveling across the country, it's best to take your time and not always be in a hurry to get home! We came from Asheville on our way home to Colorado Springs and decided to cut our day early and stay in Paducah. We decided to walk into downtown from our hotel and ended up at Stella for dinner! Best decision ever! Not only is it a cool little town but the food and hospitality at Stella was so worth the evening! The folks there were awesome....felt like everything was provided just for us! We started with drinks and then moved into starters. The shrimp was amazing and we were even treated to the tuna after saying I just never liked tuna before. Oh my word, so so good!!!! Our main dishes were delightful! I had the delicious Scallops and grits (something I never get in Colorado....whats up with that?). My husband had the Moqueca (Brazillian Fish Stew). Equally amazing! Our server was so kind and friendly. "E" made us feel at home and like we were part of the community. She then ended our meal with a signature cotton candy finisher. We went for a date night. It was so loud, it was hard to hear. The food wasn't impressive for the cost. The service was not impressive. She was super nice, but often forgot about us. It took 30 minutes just to get a drink, but apparently there's 4 bartenders. At this point I don't even remember what we got to eat, that's how unimpressed I was. The service, the food and the charm of a very old building - where to begin. This little gem is amazing. Our waitstaff was wonderful, very knowledgeable & friendly. Lareisha and Chantelle are so amazing- their recommendations showed awareness of their kitchen and they actually listen to the diner and will ask the chef if a diner's question is beyond the norm. The warm corn muffins with soft butter could be a meal they are that good! My daughter is Vegan and a plate of fresh veggies was roasted for her with perfect seasoning. The willingness to accommodate is so appreciated. I went with the fish & chips which should be the gold standard - for fish and chips. The broccoli slaw was yummy, so fresh and crunchy. The portions are huge! So appreciate when you ask for a container to take the left overs home the staff insists on boxing it up for you. So looking forward to returning and dining through the menu. We made a reservation for two online. There was no choice of tables. When we arrived, we were asked if a high top was okay. It isn't as we seniors with various artificial parts. There was a booth available, but we were told because they had a reservation for 6 people in a half hour we couldn't have it. When we told the manager that obviously they weren't interested in our business, we were asked to leave because we were "rude." Silver big screens to watch the game will have to come back for dinner but for now I need to scoot and go pick up something for Peggy. Came in a cute bowl, but the portion was small and Way way way over salted. Onto dessert, looked over the menu and ordered the creme Brule, the highlight of the meal, delicious!! Wow so many things wrong with this food I don't know how to explain. Too many flavors for something so simple. The flatbread was hard and crumbly and just fell apart. The sauce tasted really bad and sausage flavored. Very off putting as if bacon which was hard and burnt tasting, fresh pineapple had a weird wang, ham was flavorless and jalapeño should have been easy enough to get down. Neither of us could eat it. The iced tea was not good southern sweet tea. We were NOT told that the tea wasn't sweetened or that it wasn't orange pekoe which is what we use. Sure I have lots of teas from pipers but I don't use them to make my iced tea with. Such a weird flavor. Needless to say we didn't like or drink it but why weren't we told that they don't make sweet tea and that it was an odd flavor one when we placed our order? The burger meat was good enough but the whole taste of a creamy pesto and a ton of mozzarella with a paper thin tomato was a fail. Hand cut fries ok but don't get them unless you're in love with lots of salt. Hmm I would say for a Thursday afternoon lunch you wouldn't expect that the booth next to you would have people so loud it seemed like they had a few way to many drinks and we couldn't even enjoy the food if it was good not to mention having to step around liquor and laundry delivery people to be seat on hard wood benches that looked as they did 20 years ago. Went with some friends as part of a nice night on the town. First and last visit to Stella's. Reservations for 7:00pm and we were seated right away with no waiting. The restaurant and building has a ton of history so no surprise that the environment inside was really nice. Our waiter was super friendly and helped with meal suggestions. I elected for their nightly special of ribeye, potato wedges, and green beans. Meal presentation was wonderful! The potato wedge was similar in texture to a hash brown and had a really nice taste, the best part of the meal. Green beans were good too. I ordered the steak medium and got it closer to rare, but elected to not send it back, I like rare steak too. The cut was just awful, filled with too much gristle to enjoy and tasted a bit burnt. I'd rather have a McDonalds hamburger then go back to Stella's and I loathe McDonalds. read more

We went to Stella's tonight for our anniversary dinner. We had a reservation for 6:30 pm. We were seated promptly upon our arrival by the very nice gentleman host. We started off with some old fashioned cocktails from the bar and the ham and potato croquettes. The drinks were good and bar service was prompt given how busy they were. The appetizer was very good and we were honestly shocked at the great flavor. They use Broadbent's ham to make these, a locally owned smokehouse that has been making exceptional pork products for over 100 years. My husband and I love that this restaurant uses products from several local businesses in their food! We saw on Facebook earlier in the day that they had a special on Chateaubriand and only had four available. We were lucky enough to get one of them! It took a while for it to come out, but it was worth the wait. It was $120 for 25-30 ounces of beef with a bourbon mushroom demi-glace and parmesan potato gratin. The beef was cooked just how we ordered it and the the jus served with the beef was excellent - wonderful flavor. The potatoes gratin were very good also - excellent texture and flavor. Nice and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. My husband doesn't usually like this kind of potato, but he really enjoyed these. There was so much beef, we couldn't eat it all! Our server was very good - prompt and attentive. We ended the night with the chocolate lava cake, served warm, and vanilla ice cream. It was good but had a salty taste and the portion is very small for $13. Other desserts on the menu include crème brûlée, chocolate chip cookies, and a new blueberry cake. Other menu items include a bone-in pork chop, onion ring tower appetizer, onion soup, wedge salad, burger, steaks, charcuterie, fish, pasta carbonara - there's really something for everyone. They have a nice cocktail menu, beer selection, and wine list. There's a nice, centrally-located bar in the restaurant that's busy and lively. There are televisions at the bar and bar snacks on the menu. The tables are very pretty and the booths have high backs, which I really like, because it makes seating more intimate and allows for more private conversation. This restaurant is located on a corner of a busy two-lane one-way; there isn't much street parking, so be prepared to park in the large free public parking lot across the street. Hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 3pm to 10pm. They're closed on Sunday and Monday. This made for a really good anniversary dinner and we are glad we came! read more

Looking for somewhere for lunch on our day trip. Read about Stella's and it sounded good. Nice outdoor dining off the main drag on a tree shaded sidewalk. Jake, our server, was working the entire outside area. The bartender had called off, and he and the manager were doing most everything. He apologized that our drinks took a couple extra minutes! No problem, no hurry. The lunch menu is brief but amazingly well constructed. My wife had the French dip burger, I had the pork schnitzel. Very good, with a side of warm potato salad, but very different than the usual German salad. It was a gorgeous day, there was great instrumental music playing from somewhere across the street, and we really enjoyed ourselves. A tad pricey, but this is the touristy area so not a big deal. I went here with my husband and a couple of friends. We were originally supposed to go across the street to Grill 211, but they were closed for a private event. It was raining so we ran across the street to Stella's. My husband and I used to go a lot when it was Shandies. So, we were interested to try this place. It was quilt week, but they were able to get us seated even though they were busy. This place has a lot of things on the menu that look incredible. The bison burger looked really good and I almost got it, but I couldn't justify paying $28 for a burger and fries. My husband got the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. I got the tomahawk porkchop with Brussels sprouts and it was very delicious. They also served cornbread as a complimentary appetizer. It was really good. My husband also got the bananas foster and he said it was very delicious. I would only come here for a nice occasion as the prices are very high. I think the food is worth it, but not for an every day meal. Our waitress was very attentive and overall the experience was wonderful.
