Very small place, but warm and homie feel. From where we were sitting had a clear view of a very clean kitchen. Menu at first was a little daunting because it felt more like an alacart style. Food is fresh and hot. Service was friendly and accommodating. Atmosphere - Old building with dining in a large room. Mostly filled with locals at long tables. We sat at a 4 person table in the corners. Food Drink - Coffee served with a spoon in it. I take my coffee just black. Breakfast - I went with the 2 eggs, Choice of bacon, sausage or ham, with toast or biscuits and gravy. I had too 2 eggs over easy, got medium, sausage that looked like bacon, and the biscuit and gravy could have had more gravy on the thin biscuit. Service - After we placed our order our waitress had to visit us and ask me how I want my eggs. I took 25 minutes to receive food. The clock is ticking and I was not sending the bacon back because I ordered sausage. Future - Maybe as I have another trip to the area soon. read more

A group of five was not Greeted at the door. The tables had not been cleared so there was actually only one place to sit. We had to clean one end off Justto be able to sit down. Almost every breakfast item on the menu Said served with biscuit and gravy or toast. Before the waitress took our order, she informed us they had no more biscuits and gravy. Almost every choice on the menu was served with gravy and biscuit or toast. We ordered two sausage egg sandwiches;one wheat one white. we only got wheat bread.Over medium eggs, one with hashbrowns one with American fries.. The sausage on the sandwiches was falling apart one sandwich add one egg the other one had two pieces. One order the food was cooked just as ordered. The other two were not cooked to request.. the eggs were not cooked and runny That person could not eat the eggs. We asked for three orders of wheat toast and two white. everyone got wheat bread. If the waitress would've smiled or at least been cordial, it might've been a better experience. Couldn't get a smile out of her for nothing. My water. A slight brown color that wasn't noticed until after I drank almost the whole glass. I guess for five of us to eat it was only $47. Very cheap service terrible cleanliness I give it a two. Just passing through town and found this gem. Great food, great price and nice people.

If I could give Rube's negative stars, I would. I realize that they had probably been overrun with the influx of archers who descended on Metropolis for the archery tournament, that some of the customers they encountered over the weekend may have been a lot to deal with, or that they could have been overworked or understaffed. However, we were not the cause of any of it. We simply wanted to enjoy a breakfast before our long drive home. Our server (waitress )was THE RUDEST one I have ever encountered. And when I confronted her about it, she became sarcastically sweet. At that point we paid for our drinks and left. We never got to the point of being able to order a meal. We most certainly will never try to eat there again. They should change the name of the place to 'Rude.' read more

My family and I were given horrible service due to our skin color. The lady owner was rude to us and on top of that never offered us refills on our drinks nor checked on our table .Upon paying for our meals, we were given dirty looks. If you're of color, don't bother to stop here, you will be treated poorly. read more

The ambiance was no music, just some old guys talking loud across the restaurant to each other. the waitress was sitting on a chair next to the door. she said hello several seconds after entering. Said can I help you? I said I'm hungry. She waved sit anywhere. Sat down, awkward feeling, I said I want a chicken fried steak breakfast. She didn't seem to know what that was. I had to explain it. When she served it, there was no gravy. No toast either. I asked for gravy, she said I've got brown gravy. At that point I was VERY uncomfortable. She was odd, the whole place was odd. It was as if I interrupted their morning. I wanted to leave. Then she said 'we'll let me go see if there's some gravy...' she comes back with a bowl of watered down thin white gravy. I settled. Didn't want to be a jerk. She went back to her chair by the door, obsessed with her phone. I wanted some oj. I looked at her on her phone for several minutes.... finally she looked up, I waved at her. She came over, ordered the oj. She brought it, never smiling EVER. Never asked how the meal was.. I guzzled the oj as fast as I could. And got cash on table to pay.... she sat back down with her phone... She saw the cash on table, could have rung me up, but sat down!! I went to pay, she didn't even have a ticket to show me. I gave her 20$. She gave me 3$ back. Again I didn't say a word... Unfriendly place. after a poor night's rest I figured I'd get some victuals to match. stumbled across this place looking for another, lot was two-deep in local vehicles end to end so why not... besides, it seems to be the only game in town outside of the casino ;-\ like many small town diners this is a great place if you're from here, otherwise it can be hit or miss; lone waitress tending a fifteen or so tables is as busy making small talk as feeding the masses. found a seat, got a menu and coffee and asked for cakes and eggs plus gravy biscuits in lieu of toast. getting tired of not-quite-set whites on eggs up, this might be popular with the younger crowd but I am not a fan. similarly, the gravy was thicker and darker than is my wont and the pancakes heavy and dull. I prefer my cakes and gravies lighter and brighter but it may be regional differences or possibly the flour went off... seemed to do alright with the biscuity bit though :-) read more

Good breakfast very good value. Best biscuits and gravy I ever had. Good fast service even though they where busy

Stopped by for the Superman statue then decided to stay for a bite to eat. Chose Rube's and was pleasantly suprised. It was crazy cheap. For example, the grilled cheese was $1.75, fries (if you wanted) were $1.75 as well. We tried their lunch buffet at $8.99 and it was good. It wasn't great and the food was just average but to stuff your face for $9 is nice. read more

Not bad for the price , plenty to eat . Rather have sausage gravy than old milk gravy though. When you ask for crisp bacon it's to perfection, although lacking in coffee refills. All in All not to shabby for breakfast, will have to try lunch , not open for dinner, probably can't find help for the hours read more

Had lunch on Sunday around 10:30 and had the buffet and all I tried was very good for home cookin meals I will be back!

Food was decent and cheap the service wasn't to good I asked the lady twice for a new straw cause my 1 year old dropped hers and she never brought us one. She was very rude and impolite the food took awhile to get to us and she never came by to see how we were doing or check on us. read more
