I can't review the food because I never got any. However, I can't recommend this place to anyone. On a weekday, 1:30 pm, not crowded at all, and no one came to take my order. I observed a nearby table of 3. Two people had already gotten their lunches, the 3rd person in the group had the misfortune of ordering a hamburger which she never got, at least not while I was there. The waitress had assured her she'd bring it out as soon as it was ready. After several minutes of me quietly waiting, more customers started coming in. The waitress shouted across the room, "I'll be over there to get all of y'all's orders as soon as I can!". At that time there were 3 or 4 tables including mine waiting for a menu and waiting to order. No one had even gotten menus. I eventually left without saying a word. Zero stars. read more

Absolutely incredible food and service. This place is a true hole-in-the-wall gem. Our waitress treated us like family from the moment we sat down. My wife and I stopped in on a Tuesday around 1:30 pm and the place was packed. We found out that it was the second day they have been open since the tornado blew through town and closed them for a while. We had to wait for a couple of tables to clear out before we were able to sit down. I ordered the Hutchens's Famous Pulled Pork Sandwich with their pigtail fries. My wife ordered the Catfish dinner. The food took a while to come out but that was to be expected with how busy they were. My sandwich was good, but I wouldn't consider it "famous", it was OK. My wife really liked the Catfish, it was crispy and flavorful. We both like the taste of the pigtails. I would come back again and next time I would try something else. read more

Would have gave this place a five star, but when I checked out they didn't tell me that there was going to be an additional charge for using a credit card. If they would've told me that in advance I would've paid cash. Really pisses me off when they don't tell you they're going to charge you extra for using a credit card. Great food, good service, the only thing I could fault (the age of the building) has more to do with the fact the restaurant has outgrown its current building. The BBQ sandwich was outstanding with the vinegar coleslaw. The staff was friendly and always talking with you (regardless if they knew you). BBQ, really real BBQ. Hutchins is an institution in Benton Kentucky. It has been mentioned in numerous movies about the south. Even though, some would argue that we're more Midwest. Every time I get down to this end of the state I make it a point to come in and reaffirm that Benton Kentucky has a lot more going for it than some would let on. Compared to other barbecue joints of similar size, this is a five. The meat is always perfectly seasoned. The smoke flavor neither overpowers nor is overpowered. The sauce, as always, is well beyond what one would expect in such a small venue. The side items are, unfortunately, right off the Sysco truck but, that is to be expected. The focus here is the meat. And they do focus on the meat. I'm taking a star for the lack of creativity with sides, however this does not indicate any slights on the main focus: meat. read more

When your driving the back roads of Southwest Kentucky and you see a neon pig you have got to pull over and check it out! Good old school BBQ. Very clean tables. Great waitress's. Yes they call you"Hon" and that makes me feel good. I had the BBQ pork sandwich and my wife had the BBQ turkey. Both excellent. They may look pedestrian but the meat on both was outstanding. Good but not overpowering smoke, great flavor and very tender. They know what they're doing here. Lots of menu options, more that could be sampled at one lunch sitting. Growing up here, Hutchen's BBQ has ruined me for other barbecue. I now live 1,000 mikes away but always come back to Hutchen's when I'm around. I thought it was closed. Looks a little wore out but we all know the dives are usually the best. Super friendly people here. The inside is much cleaner than the outside. I ordered the special meatloaf and it was fantastic! Fried green tomatoes were the best I've had. But I'm from the North West so .... what do I really know about fried green tomatoes. There really isn't much variety in Benton, have maybe a dozen restaurants & half have exactly same menu. This used to be one of mainstays in town as it was relatively cheap for decent simple food but quality was never way up there to begin with but when new owners took over quality went way down while seriously raising prices. Used to get 2 decent sized meals for $13-15 but since new owners it's gone up to $18-20 that's pretty high for mediocre bbq & bison burgers. Plus nearly $3 for criminally weak tea & RC soda are you serious?! You should probably pass but if you live in Benton you probably won't. read more
