Stopped in the area on the way back from Garden of the Gods in the nearby national forest. Had a quick happy hour across the street and popped in Cordavino's for an early dinner. Solid food and very fair prices, particularly friendly and efficient service. It's a basic ambience, small town restauraunt but they have the "black rock" grill items for dinner all of which look phenomenal. After an appetizer of toasted ravioli (okay, kind of like frozen and air-fried but not bad) and side salad (basic), we tried the pizza and the Fettucine Bestecca. Both were phenomenal. The steak was actually juicy and tender, not overcooked at all (one almost expects a dish like this to have tough and overdone steak since you're not even asked how you want it prepared, but it was instead perfectly north of medium and juicy with each bite). The alfredo was creamy, the noodles done perfectly. The pizza was crispy and by opting for buffalo mac chicken pizza we got to taste what that pasta dish is probably like as well. Drink prices/specials are crazy (at least to us, where in the city all would be double this)-- I had a double makers on the rocks for $10. Would definitely return. read more

Ordered a large pizza, salad and breadsticks. Pizza was good, salad was large and fresh, breadsticks were kinda lame. Just warmed up and like olive gardens which I don't find that great. I should have ordered garlic bread instead. Was hoping that they delivered like their site on yelp said but they said it wasn't available. read more

Stopped by on a Wednesday evening. Quaint place in Metropolis. Very nice decor and looked freshly remodeled but the staff said it was a few years old so well maintained. Only two waitresses for the whole place and they were bussing and hosting. Probably another small town business negatively affected by the Illinois minimum wage. Food was hot a very good. We both had the Cajun shrimp pasta which had a nice bite but nothing bad. Portions so large neither of us finished it. Great place and highly recommend even though they are short staffed. read more

I don't usually leave reviews unless it's really good or really bad. And unfortunately, this was terrible. We drove an hour for my boyfriend's birthday to try this place for its hands-on cooking experience. I was so excited to do the black rock (you cook the item yourself on a heated stone). Service was absolutely horrible and impersonal. The waitress had zero enthusiasm, gave zero info about the process of the black rock or what came with it (we had to ask a million questions), didn't check on us but once, and only pre-bussed the table as we were trying to get up to leave. Caesar salads were okay- fresh lettuce and Parmesan. I got the garlic butter pasta with chicken. Way too much red pepper flakes for my taste buds, chicken was dry, breadstick was cold and dry. Boyfriend got the 14oz ribeye with loaded baked potato- potato was decent. We had to ask for butter and seasoning on the side in order to cook the steak. The taste and cook of it was great (good thing he knows what he's doing), just be careful the grease pops everywhere as it cooks. Also, he wasn't provided any extra plates for his ribeye for eating. He only had the 775° black rock that the steak came on, and the wood block that came on (see pics). I asked the server for one, she brought a side salad sized plate... for a 14oz ribeye. He tried to make it work but with pieces piled on top of each other it made it difficult to slice into bite sizes. She didn't ask or check on us, once again, and was in eyesight as I walked to the kitchen area to ask for a bigger plate. Another note, as we were eating a couple walked in at about 20 til close and asked if they were still open. The lady said "umm we close at 8", they proceeded to ask if they could still dine in and she said "let me see if the kitchen is still open" (it's 20 mins before you close why would the kitchen shut down already, especially if you still have customers?????). She walked off, they stood there waiting for a solid 5 mins and she never returned. Needless to say they left. I hate that we were so looking forward to this, and it's wild how the service can really kill a whole mood-- speaking as a waitress myself, I'm just very underwhelmed by the experience as a whole. read more

Nice local spot. I had the lasagna and my wife had the chopped salad. My lasagna was just warm and a little too sweet. My wife enjoyed her salad. The best thing about the the place was the nice couple next to us who just had six week old baby. They made some great local suggestions like Sissy's. They seemed to like their pizza. The service was slooww. Which came as no surprise when we found out that we came in just before closing. Yelp posted a 9pm close but a couple of women were refused seating after 8. They did get takeout because they wanted to use a gift certificate for 30 bucks and traveled 40 minutes. The couple next to us suggested they go to Big Ed's just down the block with the same owners. The whole exchange with the manager was off putting. The 9pm close started the following week. read more

Stopped in to this little gem on our way home from Paducah. Found it on Yelp and it had great reviews, so decided to try it out. One girl was doing it all since we were there between lunch and dinner rush, but she was amazing! She was seating everyone, the only waitress for several tables, and had a smile on her face the entire time. We had the garlic cheese bread as an appetizer. It was served with red sauce and was very good. I had the spaghetti and added a meatball, which was the size of a baseball! My husband had the Cajun shrimp pasta. The food was very good. Pastas come with a side salad, which was fresh. They had several other patrons cooking their own meals on the black stone, so we will have to try that out next time! It smelled amazing! One of the few non-chain places to choose from in Metropolis is Cordavino's, which is down the road from "the boat", or Harrah's. The place serves up some delicious Italian food. Its one of those places that looks "unassuming on the outside, incredible food on the inside". We went on a Tuesday night, and they had the buffet going on (I think they have it Monday thru Friday). Me and my nephews had the buffet, which was pizza and pastas, as well as their cherry dessert pizza. The pizza was very good. I'm not really sure how to describe it. The crust was crispy, kind of like pan pizza. I'm not very much a fan of buffet pizza, but it still tasted fresh. Buffets come with their side salad, which was really good as well. My mom had the Italian Beef Sandwich, and it was so huge that we had to help her finish it. We all agreed that they O.D.'d on the pepper, but it is what it is. They have specials, like Buffalo Mac and Cheese. Not sure about the alcohol, but there were plenty of wines on display. Many people have said the portions on their dishes are generous, and I agree. If you're ever swinging through Metropolis, check out this place! The service was great. read more

Not really sure why this place doesn't have more reviews. It is absolutely excellent. I've been here at least two dozen times and I've had almost everything on the menu; I rarely get the same thing twice. What I've never been disappointed. Literally everything I've had. There has been great. The lasagna is especially nice, as are the pizzas. My daughter has celiac disease, and she said the gluten-free pizzas are fantastic. I took a slice of one of the hers and it was really good quality. I don't know if they are certified, meaning I don't know if they prepare the wheat pizzas near the gluten-free pizzas, but she's never had a problem after eating here. I recommend it over any other restaurant in Metropolis. read more

It's nice to see a non-chain restaurant in my hometown, and it's a shame it's taken so long to get here. My parents and I intended on going to another restaurant in town, but Mom suggested a location change, so Dad and I graciously obliged. We walked in and I was quite surprised to see such a nice and warmly decorated entrance. Our waitress greeted us promptly and dropped us off at the table. She returned within a minute without drink orders and menu suggestions. I was hungry, but didn't want to overload myself, and by fate, the salad offerings were all $7.00. I opted for the grilled chicken Caesar salad and add the seasoned shrimp. I wasn't disappointed! Doing the whole "keto thing" I forgot to ask for "no croutons" but thankfully the bread chips were on the side! The chicken was hot, the salad was cold (if you know me, then you know I dislike warm lettuce) and the added shrimp for $3.00 was a perfect compliment! I spoke with a friend who said he's visited several times, but hadn't found anything they just blew him away, and I'm going to agree-the food was fresh, had flavor, and I don't have a single complaint about it. It wasn't "WOW" but from the garlic cheese bread, to Mom's meatball sub, the food was consistent, and I couldn't have asked for a better lunch date with my parents! read more

I was originally going to give Cordavino's a 1 star because they really aggravated me. I drove all the way across town to get there for dinner. They claim to close at 9:00. I got there at 8:10 and as I walk in they told me they were closed. How awful. But, being one of the only games in town I returned the next night to try it out. The food was great and service was perfect. I liked it so much I actually ate there two nights in a row. Had it not been for the hours posted being wrong I would have given 5 stars. I recommend this place to anyone wondering through Metropolis. read more

We were in town on a Sunday and thought we would try them. We waited 45 minutes for our drinks and then another 45 minutes for our meal. We never received our salads. Food was warm, not hot at all. Wait staff was more worried about large groups than small parties. Staff didn't seem to understand why we were upset about not getting our salads. read more

Fantastic experience. Brick walls and booths, low light and not loud. Colleen, our server, was incredible and told us about a special off-menu item we had to try. The Italian Beef pizza. As a former Chicago resident, her recommendation came highly respected. With au jus sauce on the side, it was one of the more delicious meals I'd ever had. The Margherita flatbread came with dollops of ricotta cheese, perfectly salted, and again, delicious. Three tiny little cannoli was the perfect way to end the meal. Highly recommend. read more

Came for a late lunch, early dinner on Sunday. First time visiting and was pleasantly surprised. I had the spaghetti and meatball, which was very good. Husband had the black rock ribeye. He loved the process of it cooking in front of him. Said the meat was good quality with great seasoning. Also enjoyed the garlic cheese bread appetizer, a gooey yummy treat to start our meal. The waitstaff At Cordavino's is outstanding, especially J. who waited tables, sat patrons and cleaned tables. She is friendly, informative and service was quick! We started our meal with the garlic bread, loaded with cheese and subtle garlic flavors. We followed with the Italian salad, beautifully presented with loads of Italian style meats, mozzarella cheese and flavorful red peppers. My only quibble is the bottled Italian dressing, a homemade version would be preferable. We also ordered the lasagna, a generous portion filled with gooey cheese and what tasted like homemade tomato sauce. The atmosphere is simple and straightforward. Prices are reasonable! read more

I've heard of Cordavino's for several years so we finally decided to make the one hour drive and give it a try. Service was friendly but not efficient. We would have to ask to have empty appetizer and salad plates removed. No big deal but i decided the young lady was not that experienced but she was very nice and sweet. I ordered iced tea and everyone else got water. I might as well had done the same. The tea was barely above water, there was only a slight hint of tea flavor. It was the weakest tea I've ever drank. We ordered the seafood dip and some wings for an appetizer. The wings were great with both blue cheese and ranch for dipping. None of the four of us could eat the seafood dip. It had a tremendous bad fishy taste. We all are seafood lovers but we just couldn't eat the dip. Two in our group ordered the shrimp and scallop black rock entree. The waitress came back later and said they only had enough shrimp for one so one of the two only got scallops. Such things can happen but it is disappointing. The salads were good but nothing special. After a pretty good wait, nothing extreme, we got our entrees. The biggest issue here was our baked potatoes were barely warm at best. Actually they were next to cold. They wouldn't melt the butter when applied. The black rock experience was not one that I cared for. I ordered the ribeye. I want to enjoy a steak cooked the way I like it. With the rock I started off at rare and ended with well done. I won't ever order that type presentation ever again no matter the which restaurant I'm at. We had a little trouble with our bill because they had charged for two entrees with scallops and shrimp. They kindly corrected it and that was great. I left with this, I might go back and try an Italian dish but it might be a while if I ever do. read more

Nice to see a new, non-chain restaurant in Metropolis. I usually come through this area at least twice a year. I had lunch today, and I was pleasantly surprised! The server was excellent and attentive. As I am a vegetarian, I ordered the spaghetti with marinara. With a side salad, bread and a drink, it was under $10 before tax-that's an excellent price! Spaghetti sauce was very good, a little on the sweet side; real grated Parmesan was on top. The house Italian dressing was excellent as well. Needless to say, I cleaned my plate! I plan to eat there again and try the Sicilian pizzas. You would be hard-pressed to top Cordavino's in Metropolis. And the walk downtown is scenic, with several Victorian homes and older buildings.
