My son got a cut on his head, that was not dire or even big enough to require stitches. We were billed for the same '12001 Simple repair wound, scalp; 2.5cm or less'. After speaking with my insurance twice, and Doctors on Duty once, I became aware that we were technically charged correctly for this visit. My issue here is that the doctor was unable to complete the 'procedure' without assistance from my wife due to my son being very young and scared. As such, it's my belief that my wife was an assistant in this procedure, and we should not have been charged fully as a result. The next time we have something similar (non-life threatening) happen, we will absolutely require the qualified staff to complete all procedures 100% themselves, and if they require assistance with the patient, then they can call in their own staff to consume additional time/resources on their behalf, since the cost ultimately would have been exactly the same regardless. I would encourage others to do the same, especially since all this 'procedure' required was some glue and a band-aide, charged (before insurance) at $247.00, which is ridiculous for few minutes spent with the doctor. My mother in law Matilde Gonzalez had been attending this specific doctors on duty and she has had a pleasant experience. All the staff is extremely attentive especially Anna, Sierra, Ann, & Dr. D. They are pretty incompetent here. Waited outside for Covid test they don't answer the phone to check in, apparently you have to call and check in before parking but that's impossible. After they get the insurance card and paper work, they leave you sitting outside for an hour and when you try to call and finally get an answer, what do you know..... "I supposedly never checked in!" Then sit and wait another 45 min and get no test administered. Just a joke, what's the point of making an appointment if you don't even do your job? I went in for a very standard pre employment drug test (4/18) and have never in my life been treated with such disrespect, hostility, or rudeness. The lady that took me back for the drug test, cheetah/leopard spot scrubs, came in to DoD after I had already been waiting for about 10 min. 20 min later, I was laughing in the waiting room with an elderly patient, when she called my name and took me back. She then proceeded to treated me like I was a convict. (I am in my early 20's, currently work as a firefighter/EMT, clean shaven, dressed professional, no piercings, etc). I asked what type of test was being done and inquired about when I (my employer actually) could expect the results, for I am extremely eager to begin working there and would like to know when I could expect a call back. Instead, she glares at me, tells me to put my back against the wall, searches throughout the entire bathroom a second time and then tells me with the most demeaning and rude tone I have ever experienced, "We'll find out real quick if this is male or female urine." Excuse me!?!?! Not to mention the fact that during my wait another guy probably in his 40's came in, no appointment, needing a drug test and he was in and out 10 min before they even called my name. I will be back there tomorrow to file a formal complaint with one of the doctors. To the girl behind the counter who helped me with paper work, you are a shining example of friendliness and I wish you could have rubbed off on your hostile coworker. I do not want this review to reflect negatively on the doctors or other staff working there, but I am hoping that management will take note and that this will deter this individual from treating others this way in the future. read more

Waste of time. Obscene waits, and PAs (occasionally a real doc) who refuse to treat symptoms. I was told by a PA that they don't prescribe a certain class of drug - which I had been prescribed before at that same location. That's called a lie. A big sign hangs in the lobby which claims they are trying to prescribe less antibiotics for illness due to increasingly resistant viruses. The PA (can't recall her name) was quick to prescribe antibiotics - and only antibiotics - ignoring other, larger symptoms. This sort of clinic is probably efficient for drug testing - but that's about it. read more

Amazing! Happily in recovery, from my ouchy. Honestly, I so do not like visiting medical offices in the US. I try to get all my medical and dental issues done in Cabo San Lucas or La Paz, Mexico. I LOVE Mexico for medical care: particularly, since I dislike and do not carry health insurance. Yes, my $200 root canal and $100 mammogram (they give you the x-rays) are just a couple examples of the financial differences. Well, after 3 days of trying to drain a nasty cyst on the side of my face; the damn thing just became large red angry and swollen. Dr. Diaz was respectful, listened well and took care of my condition very quickly. Very professional manner was admirable and appreciated. Saturdays are tough days to just drop in, but I had just a little wait because an emergency child injury came through. Sundays the Pacific Grove Doctors on Duty is open. These are all under the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital program, so rates are standard. Much more reasonable than the E.R. or Chomp care centers. Though still very pricey compared to Mexico, Thailand or India medical centers. Thank You! for the help I received today. I've had to come to doc in a box twice in my life about 3 or 4 years apart. Both times, it was the Seaside Branch. Some of the incidents described in other reviews may be true, but its nothing that doesn't happen and hasn't happened in big name "real hospitals". So don't be quick to jump on the "let's disrespect the little guy because their clientele is not in our income statosphere". Sure maybe the education level is not as high for staffers, but they are attentive and competent. I see no value added for going to a hospital or Doctors mall with a bunch of upper middle class millenial staffers with tatoos and subtle arrogance. The seaside branch does have an older old school Doc tell the staff to get charts ready because there was a room full of patients. I had to go there today and was happily surprised. The front staff was very kind and most helpful with me because I am a very nervous person when it comes to dealing with Medical Care. Even after I left for my prescription, I found out that my insurance wasn't excepted at the pharmacy I usually used, I had to go back to DOD and they helped me straighten everything out, I very much appreciated them for their guidance. Went in for a COVID test. They asked for my ID and insurance so of course I handed it over and they handed me some paperwork and told me to go wait in my car, and they would bring my cards back out to me. After twenty minutes I decided to go back inside and just give them my paperwork. I assumed they'd give my ID and insurance back but they didn't yet. I waited another ten minutes before going back in and asking about how long it would be. They told me they were working on it right now. Took them and hour and a half to write down my insurance number and whatever they needed from my ID. Doctor came outside to ask me a question, then went back inside and it took another 30 minutes before someone came out to test me. During this time I tried asking multiple questions and got no answers. After taking the test they told me they would call me within 15-20 minutes. Didn't receive a call until 45 minutes later. I understand there is a lot of work and stress especially right now for frontline workers like them, but still seemed very incapable of taking COVID tests, something that is crucial right now for so many reasons. Every other test I've taken both at doctors on duty and elsewhere only took 5 minutes max. I was waiting outside for almost 2 hours. There were three other people who had been there longer than me or about the same time. Very dissatisfied with what should be a very simple quick and easy process and is at other places. I got there and the receptionist was not very friendly. Then they could not find my insurance and said it was invalid. Then instead of calling my insurance company themselves they told me to call so I did and the insurance company told the receptionist to enter my new group number but she said she has nowhere to enter it and that wasn't the problem when clearly it was the problem because the group number they had me under had my address and information from 13 years ago when I was under a different companies insurance plane with anthem. Then while we were trying to figure this out they called my first name and the receptionist said she's outside. I was standing in front of her and she was getting me mixed up with someone else who did not even have the same name as me. Then they called my last name and I said did they call me and the receptionist just looked at me and they took some old woman back so I figured they were calling her. Finally I get taken back without the insurance issues resolved. While I was waiting for the doctor to come in I overheard them saying they had taken the older woman back and thought she was me and had not verified her name to make sure whether or not she was me. So they could have seen another patient under my name on accident if they had not caught it. But they did not let me know they did that I just happened to overhear. The doctor was nice so no complaints there. But staff could work on their manners. Also when I was waiting in the lobby one of the women who maybe oversees the check in area was pretty much yelling at the other receptionist who may have been new and it was awkward and embarrassing. I can't wait to get my bill since they don't know how to look up insurance. I'll stick to the lighthouse location they are much nicer and know how to find my insurance. read more
