We were in town for World Superbike races at Leguna Seca (July 8). We were staying just a block down the street from this Urgent Care. Soon after our arrival in town my boyfriend was having excruciating jaw pain. It must've been bad for him to want to see a doctor so I Yelped an urgent care. This place was open, close by and most important had good reviews. It was closing in 30 minutes tho, but if we didn't go, bf would be miserable all weekend to see these races. We walked in, place was empty lucky for us, no appointment. Couple of waivers filled out, insurance given and Doctor took us in. Dr. Gilliam is by far the kind of doctor I wish I had as my PCP. He's funny, caring, gentle and educational. After asking my bf some questions and a little exam, it was concluded he had a little infection that needed antibiotics. Dr. Gilliam took care of ALL of it, sent the scripts to Safeway right next door (we needed to get snacks anyway) filled out the claim and sent it to insurance. I mentioned I was a medical coder. He does all of his own coding using software. But if Dr. Gilliam ever wants to hire a certified outpatient coder/biller with Urgent Care experience, we could always use an excuse to relocate to Monterey (hint hint) We were treated like humans, even laughed a little bit at some funny stories. Warm, kind Doctor. I hope we'd never have to be patients again but if we're in Monterey and need an Urgent Care, we're going here. He's the way all Doctors should be. read more

Dr. Gilliam has thus far been a great Dr.! His immense experience and great bedside manners trumps most doctors I have dealt with! I don't feel I need to educate him like I have other doctors and yes~ some doctors need educated! He has always thus far been available even on holidays! A Dr. Who takes his oath as a Dr. Seriously! He also gives back to his community by helping those in need of a Dr. Who have no insurance. Not many doctors do that! BEWARE!!!! DO NOT GIVE Dr. Gilliam your credit card number!!! Took my daughter here and just in case her insurance didn't go through, he was going to charge the $60 fee on my card. A short time later I see a charge for $112.08 .. WTF?!!! Then TWO MONTHS later when I hadn't even been in since, I get ANOTHER charge for $112.08 on my credit card! I left two messages and absolutely NO response from him. This is cowardly and suggests to me this business is a VERY shady business. DO NOT GO!!! I had to cancel my credit card and disputed both charges. read more

Dr' Gilliam has been nothing but help from my severe epilepsy to generalized anxiety....But in my most recent trip on 12/14/17 he prescribed me a different cough medicine and didn't tell me anything about it. I tried it and have felt sick with no relief. Hopefully this next time around things will go smoothly because there always seems to be a bit of confusion with my Medicare as we. RECEPTIONIST JUST SENT AWAY YOUR BUSINESS - TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! This review is actually for the Doctors and for the owner of this business to look at. I had a strong recommendation from our school nurse that Dr. Gilliam was recommended as a great doctor to see for urgent care. THIS OCCURRED ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 27th: I had a fever of 102 and I drove there straight from work. When I arrived at 1:50 I noticed a piece of paper on their front door stating hours are from 2:30 pm on, but you can call and make an appointment. So I immediately called the number and received a recorded message. The message clearly stated that their hours are from 2:00 pm to the evening hours. I didn't pay attention to closing time but called back again to make sure I heard correctly. Yes we are OPEN from 2:00 pm to...... So I left a message now at 1:55 asking if there were any appointments available and that it was close to 2:00 pm but it looked very closed and informed them that the recording said 2:00 pm for their information. I was kind and cordial in my message and asked that someone would please call me back. As I was standing outside near my car, a second customer approached the door and tried to open it at 2:00 and shook his head. At 2:05 a woman shows up hurriedly and proceeds to unlock the door. The gentleman who is also parked and waiting asks her something, she hardly responds. Then I too say hello from my open car window and she hardly looks up, I ask "Hi there! Are you open right now? She says: No! at 2:30. I say (Trying to be accommodating to her bad mood even though I am the customer, I am sick with Pneumonia it turned out, fever, chills, and trying to be pleasant to her) "Ok...well I just wanted to let you know that you may not be aware, but your recording with the phone number that you have on your door for appointments clearly states you open at 2:00 so you might want to change that....that's probably why there are people out here waiting......?" She responds without looking: "Yeah, I know!" and slams the door behind her. RUDE, unprofessional, unwarranted behavior, and definitely someone who should go over and above her job especially in a job where you are supposed to help others. Here I was trying to be nice to her, and inform her for her own sake that there is a mistake on their phone message. Needless to say I drove away for a million reasons, but primarily because she did not deserve my business and I knew she was not going to be a nice person after shutting the door in my face. As a business, how do you allow such employees to work for you? And especially when people are coming to you sick??? I hope she will not be the person to read this and delete it. I hope it reaches you and you have a conversation about ethics, manners, and also what it means to be a doctor. You should hire people who reflect your values and ethics. There are plenty of other places in the Peninsula where people can go, and it is a shame that I did not get a chance to interact with any physician in your establishment because of your rude employee. I am so happy that I then forced myself in my state of health to drive to Urgent Care where everyone there was super kind, welcoming, and had a smile on their faces, regardless of the 10 people waiting to be seen. Saw Dr. Gilliam last Friday for a sprained ankle and for $50 it was perfect. I have been going to Drs. On Duty and without insurance it is almost $150 for the visit. The wait at Doctors for Less was minimal, maybe 15 minutes. The visit was simple and easy. I will definitely go back! read more

I am giving this one star due to the receptionist of this office. Dr. Gilliam is absolutely an amazing and very knowledgeable doctor without question but he is really selling himself short by not having a more friendly and experienced receptionist. This is not a rating of the doctor but a rating of the business. When a man has so much to offer in his trade and has truly passionate about his work I feel he should be aware of how people feel about his receptionist and or person representing him. Even just calling to schedule an appointment as a new patient she makes it feel as if it's an inconvenience to her and that to me shows she is in the wrong line of work. My reason for posting this is that hopefully more people will also give their opinion and help Dr. Gilliam be aware of how poorly his receptionist is doing her job. read more

I had an awesome experience at Dr. Gilliam's Clinic. I had a minor toe infection that was starting to spread and wanted to get it checked. With a high insurance deductible, I would have to pay $180+ at Doctor's on Duty even with my insurance and not to mention wait in a long line and probably not get the personalized service i got. I don't usually make visits to the doctor so this was perfect for me. The price is so reasonable for the service you get. I highly recommend this place to those who want to get a quick check like I did but didn't want to spend hundreds at doctors on duty. I was in desperate need of a doctor and didn't have insurance. Doctors on Duty and other places like it were charging an arm and a leg and it sometimes took two hours to be seen. I did the research and found Dr Gilliam on yelp and he had good reviews. I gave him a try and am very happy with his bedside manner, as well as his expertise. I had really mixed feelings about my visit to Doctor's for Less. I came in on a holiday because he was the only place taking patients. The doors were locked when I got there, and I had to wait a few minutes for him to get there. But it was a holiday, so I get that he wasn't waiting around in the office all day. The sign in process was easy, and I like that he charges a flat $50. I think that's pretty common for urgent care type places. One thing that put me a little on guard from the beginning is that when he took my temperature in my ear, there wasn't a cover on the thermometer. Maybe he cleans it after each patient, but that's pretty nasty if he stuck that in my ear after someone else's. Gross. I came in because I was having a really sore throat and was losing my voice. I thought it felt a lot like strep. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about when he said it wasn't strep, but I think it would have been a good idea to do a culture anyways. What if it was strep AND something else? So here's the thing that will probably keep me from going back there, while we were talking about what medicine would fix me up, I told him that my husband and I are trying to have a baby, so there is a slight chance I could be pregnant. I knew I ovulated about a week before, so it was too soon to take a test. I tried asking him if the medicine he prescribed was safe for pregnancy, and he was really wishy washy about the answer and just said that I would probably be able to tell if I was pregnant because "most women would know." Ok, but some women go months without knowing they are pregnant. And some women get hormonal around their periods anyways, so it's harder to tell. Besides, even if 9 out of 10 do know if they are pregnant, are you going to take the chance of harming the baby by prescribing something dangerous? Well, I wasn't satisfied with his reply, so I talked to the pharmacist at the safeway next door. Turns out, the medicine is CLASS D! That means studies say it is dangerous for pregnancy. Dr. Gilliam should have known that or at least looked it up. I told him my situation and that I didn't want to take the chance, and he prescribed the medicine anyway. Not cool. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Gilliam for several months now regarding a chronic condition I have been having a difficult time with. He is the most caring, professional medical doctor I have ever seen. He is extremely personable and is very competent in the practice of medicine. We have been needing a compassionate, competent and easy to access facility in our area for quite some time now. I was very pleased with the services here and the staff were all very helpful. I called over the weekend because I had a question on my condition, and Dr. Gilliam answered the phone himself and took the time to answer my questions and was happy to help me. I travel a lot, so it is important to me to have access to health care at convenient hours and locations. There is never a too long of a wait, parking is great and his services are the best in the area. Thank you Dr. Gilliam. Your a good man and an excellent doctor. Just wanted to thank Dr. Gilliam for coming in on the weekend to see my son. My son had been playing in the yard and he fell and hit his head causing a deep laceration. The cut was deep but not bleeding much so I called the doctor whom I had seen before for a UTI. He met me at the office on the weekend within 1 hour of my call. I was a little worried because I knew my 6 year old needed stitches and I didn't know how it would go over without any nurses to assist. He cleaned the wound and was able to assure my son and put 4 stitches in his wound. We went back in a week and he removed the stitches, the wound has healed with surprisingly minimal scaring. I was happy to pay 60.00 he is a pretty wonderful person. In the future if I'm in a pinch for time I will go again to see him. It's well worth the 60.00! My travel insurance company requires me to send them copies of the LabCorp reports which I have unfortunately discarded. I was referred to LabCorp by Dr for Less. I have contacted LabCorp and they refused to send me copies. I called Doctor for Less last week and the receptionist said that she will refer to Doctor. I am still waiting fro a response from the doctor. read more
