This reviews is specifically for my treatment under certified psychiatric mental health NP, Laura Slippy, whose based out of DOD, Marina- I've been a patient of Laura's for years now, and I am forever grateful to have found her. Having been involved in the behavioral healthcare system for most of my life, I've experienced a wide range of mental health professionals. Laura, however, stands in a category all of her own. She is one of the only providers I've ever worked with who genuinely, deeply cares. Her dedication shows through her actions and her consistency in going the extra mile. In my case, she even went through the process of becoming specially certified in a specific medication just so she could provide me with the treatment I needed. That level of commitment to a single patient's well-being is incredibly rare. She doesn't just treat symptoms, she advocates for your life. I've been to this location a number of times the past decade and have received excellent, affordable care. The most recent visit prompted me to take the time to write a review - I brought my husband in the night before thanksgiving just as they were closing - they started to suggest we go to MoGo but when they saw why we were there they jumped into action. My husband's finger was swelling up from a bug bite - once they learned there was a ring cutter things moved along quickly and the ring was off in less than 10 minutes. Super grateful especially to Cynthia and Laura for helping us through a tricky situation. So, I'm writing this, as a recently-discharged patient of a couple of years of Laura Slippy. I had her as a doctor back when she was at the Monterey location and specifically chose her as mine and my son's doctor (psych) when she made the move to Marina. To begin, I was finally corrected by my therapist when I referred to her as a Doctor. She is NOT. Which, for the time wasn't an issue for me, but it's a massive glaring inconsistency with how they treat her around there - as someone else pointed out in their review. People call her Doctor and not once have I ever heard anyone around the office correct one another, which is a massive disservice to both patients and the actual doctors in office. I also would like to address the inconsistencies in policy. As a single mother who was working full time at the time, I was told by the front of office that on the day of my son's appointment (which, the only appointment available was the time I was getting off of work, right there in Marina) I could have my mother take him with a note from me, authorizing his care. At that point, I would meet them and there would be very little layover. My mother called me, distressed, to say that Slippy wouldn't see them until I was there. By the time I got there (about fifteen minutes later), I was informed by the front of house that I was considered late and it would count against me. My mother was LIVID. As another review stated, she was still in her PREVIOUS appointment, which was running late, and used that time that was supposed to be mine (as scheduled), chatting it up with her previous patient. It was INCREDIBLY disrespectful. Later, when we came back for a medication authorization appointment, she made a comment to the tune of, "oh, I see you missed your appointment." It was insulting, at best. More recently, we have had issues with the fact that my son is on TWO medications AND Slippy is my doctor as well, so it began to feel like we needed a revolving door on the clinic. Between the need to meet for my medication authorizations AND his, with the amount that she expected us to be there, we may as well have just slept there. For transparency sake, I was on two mood medications (one being an antidepressant, the other a new stabilizer we were trying out), and he was put on two ADHD medications. Later, I began to have adverse effects of one of my medications to the tune of feeling instantly angry and on the edge of crying, nonstop. Upon research, it turns out it was a common side effect. I called the front to ask them to tell her that I was going to "cold turkey" that one, and that I was angry I couldn't get my son's medication filled (that was going to lapse) without needing to be seen - which, again, previously had been a massive point of contention. She called me back and snappily (in a callous tone) informed me that the LONGEST prescription dose she could give for a narcotic was three months, and that it's not HER responsibility to inform me of my need to schedule. As others have mentioned in their own reviews, I can't help but feel like she is wildly mismatched with fields of practice. At other offices, follow up appointments are made on the way out of the office, so: 1) If you know it's going to need to be scheduled to be refilled, why not implement that and 2) why not write the doses for three months then, given that it was NOT a NEW medication to him and YOU COULD write them for longer, especially knowing my circumstance? The ease at which she dismissed me (which others have also mentioned in their reviews) was callous and uncouth, at best, and I can't help but think that if there are others here who have had similar experiences to me, how many others have ALSO gone through horrible patient care and have NOT taken the time to leave comments. Before I round out my comment, I'd also like to bring up that when I apologized for potentially snapping at the front of house, but I was having an adverse reaction to my medication, she coldly responded, "I don't do phone consultations." Bedside manner COULD NEVER, lol. I've since stopped taking all medications she had me on and have obviously collected myself enough to do the research necessary to know I'm not alone in my experience, which is a bit of comfort. And to those who haven't, she's a lovely person - until she's not (which, funnily, her duality has ALSO been mentioned in other comments). read more

The quality of care I received was outstanding From Dr Shelly Dawson whom was caring and invested in my well being to Amanda who gave me the most gentle vaccinations I've ever had. Good and Bad I really liked Ms. Slippy but was shamed often when needing to talking about mental health issues/medications & anxiety issues. I called to make my appointment that was due and I was basically fired as her patient and left with no assistance in finding new psych care when I needed it the most. I was told I would be "referred out" for a specific issue and when I called to schedule my next appointment with Slippy (I was lead to believe that she is a Dr. and set straight by my new Dr. at CHOMP) they would not let me make an appointment. I was insulted, embarrassed and left without care when I needed it. I would strongly recommend a different office if you have a choice. Had to wait an hour after my appointment to be called back. Then another 20 minutes to be seen. No heads up about a wait. No explanation for the wait. No apologies. Worst place, they diagnosed my son with flu, they didn't tell me which kid of the flu, but that's fine, they send the prescription to the pharmacy, and pharmacy said they didn't get the prescription, I went back check with them they said wait 30 mins, and I waited go back checked again pharmacy still didn't get the prescription, i try to reach out the doctors on duty, unfortunately they closed at 3PM. Things are getting even worse, because my son is pretty sick, we don't have prescription, so I decided to take him to another urgent care, we wait 2 hours for another urgent care, and they end up diagnose my son with no flu, no need prescription, just stay at home relax. Doctors on duty said if my son didn't get better tonight, I will need to take him to ER, this is worst experience I ever had, no recommend this place to everyone. read more

I have been a patient with this office for two years, they rejected my care because I missed two appointments that I let them know about. So they referred me to another office and then put my medical records in limbo! I have serious sleep issues that they were medicating me for, which I found out I was seriously over medicated! Here it is a month later and I have dropped 15 lbs. and am barely sleeping two hours a night! This is gross mistreatment of me and I am paying dearly for it! This is my go-to every time I need to go in to see a doctor. I've never had an issue or bad experience with the staff here. Yes, they tend to get busy & have long waits, but that is going to be a given any time you visit an urgent care or similar type of clinic. My most recent visit was about 2 weeks ago for a bad allergic reaction & I began having trouble breathing on my way into the office. The receptionist (I forgot her name) was very attentive, & got me checked in quickly, and saw to it that they brought me back as soon as possible. Very special thank you to my Medical Assistant, Sonia, & Dr. Dawson for their prompt response to my concerns, & compassion when caring for me during this visit. It's particularly scary when you're having trouble breathing, or any other serious medical issues, but this team NEVER disappoints. Super helpful and friendly staff at this location. I am usually seen at Sutter, however, I live 45 mins away from the closest Sutter and I needed a TB test ASAP for school. I called early this morning and was told that walk in hours start at 1:30. When I arrived I was promptly helped and was out of the clinic within 30 mins. For the skin TB test they do not take insurance and the cost is $35. I was happy to pay this price because my only alternative was to drive 90 mins round trip to get a simple skin test completed. read more

I took my son to doctors on duty in marina by KFC for a little bump on his ear. We spent 4 hours of our morning and the doctor didn't even have the decency and respect to even see him in person. After the 4 hours one of the assistants came in his room that he had been waiting in for over an hour just to tell him they would call him. I have no issues with the employees but the doctor at this location has no compassion and respect for their patients. Never going there again. If you want to be treated like a human i don't recommend this doctors on duty. read more

After each interaction with DOD Marina I think to myself, I should really leave a Yelp review! Everyone who works at the front desk has always been so lovely- I have never felt let down and have always felt supported. I go here to see the NP, Laura, and it's like catching up with friends every time and less like a chore. She really takes her time to connect with you and values your opinion in your treatment. It's no wonder why she has patients from all over CA. Her MA, Maria, is amazing as well. She's always so friendly, prompt, and professional. Dr. Slippy (or is it NP?) misdiagnoses people and overprescribes powerful mental health medication. She gives mental health diagnoses, serious ones, after just ONE visit. I'm also not even sure if she's a doctor. I think she might just be a nurse practitioner. But it is hard to know for sure because everyone in the office acts like she's a full blown MD. If you have mental health issues, go somewhere else for diagnosis and treatment. When I saw Slippy, she had some student with her who was very snotty and judgmental. The apprentice/student actually blamed me for being sexually assaulted in the past. Yes, that level of victim blaming really did happen in a mental health care setting. Dr Dawson is great! I walked in at 830 and was told there was only one doctor in office for the day, and to come back at 350pm for an appointment. I was taken back around 430. Dr Dawson listened to my symptoms and even though the test came back negative she was able to validate my condition. She prescribed medication and had it sent to the pharmacy promptly read more

You know most Urgent Care I've been to just plain sucks. The wait time is insanely long, the staff is rude and seems like they don't want to be there. Even the doctors are just so so. But that was not the case today. Instead, my visit today was amazing! I came in right at 8am and was still 4th or 5th in line. But the difference was the incredible receptionist with the kindest heart ever. She took extra steps to make sure I was comfortable (bad nerve pain in the knee) and the wait was not long at all, especially for a walk in. Once I had my vitals taken, only a few minutes later and Dr. Jessica Zackel was there to check up on me. She showed concern and asked all the right questions to learn about my pain and came up with a plan of action. She was very observant and very thorough. A plus is that they also have an in-house xray machine which made everything go much quicker. Also, you know that one moment in everyone's life where it was just absolutely perfect to "Scare" someone?? Well that happened today too, and I felt so bad but couldn't help but crack up! In comes the incredibly kind and gorgeous Karen (my nurse). She was there to dress up my wound. And right at that moment when she applied some cleaning solution to my wound, I SCREAMED!! I haven't seen anyone jump so high, she nearly hit the ceiling!! ahahahah. I think everyone in the building could hear her. But needless to say, she was absolutely incredible and helped me all the way to the end. She's the reason I give the 5 stars!! read more

This is for my time seeing Laura Slippy, NP. From the very first day when she ran almost an hour late and then acted as if it was my problem, to months later when I was fired as a client my experience was very negative. It took hours on hold and multiple phone calls to get appointments rearranged, and to get Any information confirmed. It was a negative experience all around. Their phone systems are a hectic challenge, the hold times are excessive, And my experience was unfortunately very negative. I can't remember when I've been so badly treated as a patient. read more

The fact that I have to give them 1 star boils my blood. Livid isn't strong enough to describe how angry I am. My 4 year old son woke up with intense ear pain. We are talking scream crying from pain. I show up at DoD before 8am and wait in line outside. We are the 5th in line. We get inside, check in and I'm told there are 3 people ahead of us and if I wanted to wait in my car or go home since I live in marina, i could and that they would call me when it's our turn. I decide to wait in the car because my son is non stop crying. An hour goes by, 2 hours go by... still nothing. I call at 10am and I am told there is 1 person ahead of us and they will call as soon as the room is available. I am told it could be another 30-45 minute wait. Over an hour goes by.... Still nothing. Keep in mind I am watching people who showed up as walk-ins, being called in and then i am watching them leave.. and we are now waiting over 3 hours. By this time my son has a fever over 101! I decide to call his primary doctor and they can see him within an hour 12:28pm I receive a call from DoD, they have time now to see my son who was screaming in pain with a fever. No thanks! Never gain. Save your time and your money and go elsewhere because this place is a nightmare! read more

I called this morning to DOD the receptionist stated to come in right away and wait outside in the back parking lot there is one patient ahead of me to be seen. I rushed over feeling nauseate, sore throat, throbbing headache and much more symptoms. I arrived a little before 10:45 am parked in the back called and informed receptionist I was here. It's been 1 hour and 15 minutes I got off of my car went inside to remind them I was waiting in my car there were three females sitting up front . one of the females responded it would be 35 more minutes more those 35 minutes have passed and I am still waiting. I called Mojo clinic and the receptionist stated if I left now there was 4 ahead of me and appointments arriving. I stated to her if I go you said I would be seen. what about the patients with appointments? she responded if there late then you would be seen before them. I don't give them any stars. How terrible this is trying to get in to see a doctor. read more

An absolute disaster I called to make an appointment they told me they had two available times one at 1:30 another at 1:45 I took 1:30 she said come in 15 minutes early for paperwork so I was there at 1:20 told them what I was coming for IE blood work and some referrals... Showed up at 1:20, no paperwork just handed her my insurance card sat down for the next 2 hours and there were five people in the waiting room proceeded to go empty within an hr & a half,still sitting there I asked why bother making an appointment when I sit here for almost 2 hours she lied and said I didn't make an appointment then they said they might have a problem with insurance after an hr & a half, I told them I could clear it up they figured it out. I finally get in almost 2 hours later they don't do blood work at this location took my blood pressure said they would give me a referral and I walked out! New to the area. I had to re-establish both a primary care physician and a psychiatrist (PCP in this area usually will not write prescriptions for psychotic medicines.). Financially, it was critical to find doctors that were in network of my insurance coverage. The journey was a long one, a tough one. My frustration abound! I should have started with Doctors on Duty! This place is a SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really should get negative stars. Doctors runs test without asking. They're only interest is in collecting more test to charge you more. They do not ask permission just run test & charge you. Employees are dumb and not professional. They will speak in other languages to avoid you hearing that they don't know what they're doing.
