First Off the staff are top notch. Efficient and friendly. They are on top of billing, scheduling and are a great team with the vet techs. We have seen both vets and my first visit experience with Dr. Nichols for kindness and friendliness has not been matched. That is not to say that the other female vet is not professional because she is just a different type of personality. Our cats are treated well and they calm down quickly at the hands of the sweet staff. The wait time is not excessive if you have an appointment and routine exams are reasonably priced at around $70.00. We have young male neutered cats so their care is fairly straightforward My only comment is a type of flea treatment was recommended and it did not work well at all. However the staff recommended a dry flea shampoo which was very effective if I'm able to catch our cat long enough to apply it to their coat. We are also using Revolution now but I purchased it at Costco with a Rx from Nichols at a little better price. Saving about $25.00 so far. Overall I have been happy with my limited vet visits and I plan to keep returning so stay tuned for more reports of hopefully continued excellent care. read more

I have had multiple encounters that have resulted in me finally deciding to make this review, and never bring my animals back to this vet. I am a trusting person, I always give the benefit of doubt, but when multiple occasions occur, it's time to make sure no one else encounters what I have. The staff is extremely condescending, they always result all of their information back to "notes", the problem is, this office NEVER documents anything in specific details, so I never receive the help I'm told I would receive. I took my dog in for a check-up, he has had the worst fungal infections since moving here to California. I have BEGGED the vet there to allergy test him to find out what is causing him to get these infections, and every single time I'm told that allergy tests are not accurate and it's not necessary, but they will continue to charge me $400 a visit to treat his infections that this allergy of unknown is causing. Another problem is I am constantly getting different vets, and not a single one clearly reads up on my pet before coming because they all try to treat and diagnose differently to up charge me each time I come in. One vet tried to say he had an inflammatory disease and needed biopsies, another said he has an allergy to food, and another said it's just environmental factors that are causing allergies. It's always a different outcome, and more charges. They even charged me $50 to clean his ears, when I had just told them I cleaned them before arriving. One visit they had the vet come in, and due to his condition I was concerned about him getting the vaccines I came in for, and so I asked to see the vet first, she agreed it was ok for him to get them, so the tech came back after the appointment and gave him his two vaccines. I called to get the records, and the staff informs me that he never received the vaccines. I said yes he did, I watched the tech give them to him, and the staff informs me because there is no documentation of it, it never happened, and he would have to get revaccinated, and it would not hurt him to get them again. Absolutely ridiculous behavior! How can you run a practice and not document the most important thing? Then, I returned recently, and they tried to tell me my dog had gained weight, I said gained or lost? She said gained, last visit he was 65 pounds. (My dog has always been 80 pounds for the last 4 years), I said no that is not correct at all, he has never been that little, his sister is 62 pounds and half his size. She then tells me, oh I do see where the visit before that he was 79 pounds, so the tech must have been confused. I said, no, that is inexcusable, weight is not something to get confused about, you could kill my dog by prescribing medications not matching his weight, or he could be prescribed medication not high enough for his weight and it won't help his condition. This is not something to just ignore, I want that reported. Once again, no documentation was made about this encounter. I was given two prescriptions, and the pharmacy tech told me I only have 10 pills so you will need to pick up the remaining 20, and I have written a prescription for 5-10 days on ear drops, but I only have 5 days available, so when you get his remaining pills you can pick up the remaining 5 days of the ear drops, she said we will charge you for it all today, and then when you come back you can just pick them up. I called today and once again Cindy informs me no documentation was made regarding any of this, but she spoke to the vet and tech, and I could pick up the 20 pills, but in order to get the remaining 5 days of ear drops, I would have to pay for an entire bottle again. It's just extremely frustrating to continue to get told so many different things that always results in my hard earned money being spent. You would think that if they cared about the health of animals, their documentation process would be A LOT more serious and stricter by making sure every single word is placed into the charts. But I feel like they continue to use this no documentation as an excuse and opportunity to get away with charging people for additional care that they would not be able to if there was proper documentation. Also, my pet has had the same reoccurring issues, yet, I am asked to come in and pay for visits every single time it comes back. There has been NO solution, and NO cure. Just multiple visits and new medication treatments every time. Then, they want to place him on allergy medication, without even known what the allergy is. He was on cytopoint injections that DID NOT help, which makes since because whatever he is allergic to is still around, so this is why I continue to ask if we can test him to eliminate whatever it is that is causing his allergies. Instead, they give him more antibiotics, steroids, ear drops, and tell me come back in weeks to talk about new allergy treatments. The good was better before. A caring and attentive staff. I am tired of never getting the same vet. I have not ever experienced that as a regular patient in 30 years of raising cats. So they never have an ongoing relationship with my pets. My last experience was so ..I can't even find the words, I told them my cat felt much better and was having such a nice day, I wanted her to enjoy it, and I have a broken foot. I shouldn't carry her around. All of a sudden it was total pressure. Once I got in I had yet another new vet. I was pressured into test after test I had to pay for in advance,, having to charge some because of current disability. They charged me for clipping her claws which heretofore they have always thrown in during an expensive visit . I felt REALLY squeezed. They were always asking me to pay in advance for each new test. In the end I had to find out her kidneys which they had called me in for only 6 Mos after last visit were FINE, that she passed the other tests, and I had irritated my broken foot and back, hauled my poor cat around , to pay $430 to have my cat's claws clipped and have a new pet food suggested for weight management. I have never had this kind of experience before with a vet. Vets are known to pride themselves in doing good work for the animals. But... We took our cat in to Nichols Vet for a complete battery of tests because he wasn't acting himself. Dr. Delgado saw him, 20 minutes late - which mattered, because he was a nervous wreck the whole time. After the physical exam we agreed to have him get a full senior cat panel of tests. They took him to a back room and returned him with a pressure dressing and said they would be in touch. We paid in full - $497.34 - before leaving the office. A week passed, no call from the vet. So my husband and I went in together to find out what the results were. No results, no record of the tests. The front office promised to investigate and call us. They didn't. Now it has been 3 weeks. Our cat is feeling better thankfully - but what if??! I called the office today and got the same confused response, they don't know what happened or where the test results might be. UPDATE 1/5/24: Today, I first received a phone call from Evalina, who was very kind and helpful. She told me that the doctor was busy, but confirmed that they had received my voicemails and would contact me soon. True to their word, I was able to speak directly with Dr. Nichols a couple hours later. While she was apologetic and sympathetic to some degree, it was very clear to me that someone at this facility made a major mistake either in writing down and/or reviewing my dog's records, and/or the pre-surgery exam was not completed thoroughly. Dr. Nichols and I spoke on the phone for about 15 minutes to discuss and resolve the issue. After further discussion, Dr. Nichols agreed to refund the full cost of the surgery in a showing of good faith to us. While it can't heal my dog's unnecessary pain, I feel significantly better knowing that they have acknowledged and owned up to their mistake. I am updating my review to reflect Evalina's kindness and professionalism, and that Dr. Nichols did what she could to try to rectify this situation the next day. I will also add that they did a thorough job on my dog's dental cleaning; this would have been a 5 star review if it were based on that alone. I understand that people make mistakes, but I am hopeful that Nichols Vet Care can learn from this and not allow it to happen again to anyone else. 1/4/24 Nichols Vet was recommended to me by a friend a couple of years ago, who has since taken her dogs to a different practice. Now it's very easy to see why... My dog had an appt several weeks ago for a routine annual exam and to discuss a dental cleaning. During this appt, we asked Dr Allies if we should have any of his dew claws removed - particularly the rear ones - because they weren't really functional or useful and our groomer was worried about snagging them. Dr Allies agreed that it would be appropriate given the circumstances, and we decided to have his rear dew claws removed during his dental procedure on Jan 4th, 2024. When a family member dropped off our dog for his appt this morning, she mentioned that he was getting a dental and 2 dew claws removed. When the technician helping her asked her if it was the front or back, she stated something along the lines of "whatever ones were discussed/needed to be removed" [during the previous appointment]. Apparently, Dr Nichols doesn't bother to check records or get confirmation from anyone before beginning to perform a major surgery. We go to pick up our dog at the end of the day around 4:15pm, and come to find the vet has literally performed surgery on the wrong paws and didn't remove the correct dew claws. Our dog had his teeth cleaned and his FRONT (strong, healthy) dew claws removed while the BACK (weak, useless) ones still remain. In doing some quick research, most vets do not recommend removing healthy ones as it can cause trauma and arthritis to the paws as they get older. Nichols Vet then tried to blame their egregious mistake on the person who dropped him off, stating that she claimed it was the front ones that needed removal. Even if that WERE the case (which I'm struggling to believe is true) the veterinarian still needs to review records and use common sense to take care of my dog properly. If my family member had said, "He's here for a dental and an eye removal" would they have just done the procedure without even checking any records?! Is that seriously an acceptable response to their negligence?! I am completely disgusted and appalled at the negligence of this facility and the utter lack of professionalism. I was literally in tears and sick to my stomach on behalf of my dog going through extra pain and recovery that he shouldn't be dealing with. Nichols tried to rectify this by discounting us just under $145 for the wrong dew claws being removed (gee, thanks!) and offered to remove the rear ones for free during a future dental procedure. While I appreciate the sentiment, I will absolutely NEVER take any of my pets to this facility again and I encourage others to do the same. Unfortunately, by the time my dog got home to me, the clinic was closed so I haven't been able to speak to anyone in person yet. I left a voicemail and am expecting a response ASAP. I want answers. I'm so sickened by this that I'm currently in the process of speaking to an attorney and the Better Business Bureau. Not only has my dog suffered additional pain, but the results will likely cause him pain and arthritis in the years ahead. If you love your pets as much as I do, STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THIS NEGLIGENT FACILITY! There are plenty of reputable vets in the area. I just want to find a good vet in the Monterey area. I am not difficult or high maintenance! When I walked it, I was greeted with a smile. The receptionist was great. The place is huge with a ton of open (wasted) space. They had a ton of products for sale. It seems weird they wouldn't try to utilize the space better for something else. It is nice having open space but just really odd I guess for a vet. Waited for a while, as I watched a lot of staff aimlessly walking around; no one really seemed to be doing anything. I LOVED the vet tech. I've never found a place where you really feel like they are really listening to you AND understand you. Vet was kind, basic, nothing exciting, but nothing bad. Was not the namesake. Now, please understand, I really wanted to love this place, I was really willing to let anything slide... but the miscommunication! I was told 24-48 hours for lab results. Day 3 I called, oh sorry they should of called on day 2. Your Dr isn't here I will have another Dr call you. Day 5 oh sorry your dr isn't here until day 8, there's nothing I can do. Day 8, your dr just went to lunch. Called again before closing, oh sorry I'll have the dr call you back! Finally called back, sorry I figured someone would of called you... Are you kidding me?! Now, like I said I wanted to love this place. I used to take my dog here. They gave my dog some medication for an inner ear infection that actually made my dog deaf for about 2 weeks. They never told me this was a possible side affect of the medication that they gave my dog. However, when this happened, as you can imagine, I researched this medication only to learn thar it causes some dogs to permanently go deaf. Luckily this didn't happen in my case but the point is this is information that should be disclosed so that the pet owner can make an informed decision regarding the well being of their pet. I also had a dog that was very obedient but if she can't hear me call her name, it's a danger to her if we're out in public etc. When I told the vet about it and went back for a follow up appointment ( because at that time my dog still couldn't hear anything), they were cold and RUDE to me when I mentioned the fact that no one told me that my dog might go deaf temporary or permanently due to a medication prescribed by them for an ear infection! After that I never returned but called them once accidentally to schedule an appointment, thinking it was my new vet, only to find out from the receptionist that I was blacklisted from returning there. These people are crazy and incompassionate. I'd never feel safe taking my pets there. Even if I could forgive the huge oversight of my dog going deaf (luckily she got her hearing back), I can't forgive how awful they were once I told them about it and how they dealt with the entire situation. I was honestly going to let all the bad stuff go, as my last visit was back in July when my puppy package (thankfully) ended. Over the course of said "puppy package" they tried to give my dog the wrong meds twice, consistently SNATCHED my credit card out of my hand without ever giving me a total, and even threw in a $40 supplement on my last bill without telling me. The last part I called and informed them of, and they acted as if they were doing me a FAVOR by allowing me to return the item they scammed my with...seriously??? However, the final straw was MONTHS later, after having closed out my account and gotten all my records from them, receiving a bill for $5.24 because they made an error back in July... What? I received your letter informing me that you would not longer provide veterinary services for my dog. Please be assured that I had absolutely no intention of ever seeking any services from you again. I was, and continue to be, incensed by your practice of charging more for a Friday afternoon "urgent care" appointment. When I made the appointment, I was informed that an appointment on Friday afternoon would cost an extra $28.00 dollars. Alternatively, I could have my dog seen on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the usual office visit price of $72.00. I reluctantly agreed to pay the extra $28.00 so my dog would not suffer over the weekend. On Friday morning, I was contacted by your office and asked to bring my dog in before noon to oblige your schedule. I accommodated your request, and you saw my dog before noon. When I was brought the bill, I was charged $100 for the office visit. When I objected, I was told that I had agreed to the increased fee. I responded that my dog had not been seen in the "urgent care" time slot. Then, I was told that you expected the extra fee because you were inconvenienced by having to see my dog early. So, from my perspective, I accommodated your schedule by coming in early, and you justified charging more because you were inconvenienced by my accommodating your schedule. In the last four months, I have paid $3,551.87 to you. Of that amount, $2,267.80 was for the surgery and medications on February 28, 2022. The remainder of more than $1,284.00 was for four office visits, treatments and medications. So, above and beyond the surgery, I have paid you more than $321.00 a month. And yet you felt a need to charge me an extra $28.00 for "urgent care" that did not occur during "urgent care" times? I am clearly angry over this treatment. Unfortunately, and inappropriately, I expressed that anger to your staff. You chose not to speak with me. Please convey my apologies to your manager and anyone else I may have offended. And as the final irony, and another reason to seek veterinary treatment elsewhere, is the Optimmune issue. In your veterinary record notes, you blame me for my dog's continued eye infections because I failed to use your recommended Optimmune treatment. I have judiciously cleaned my dog's eyes and applied the correct amount of Optimmune to each eye twice a day for the last six days. My dog's eyes have not improved in the slightest. read more

Be prepared to empty your pockets if you go here. We have no problem paying for good care. We moved here just before the pandemic so we were looking for a new Vet we trusted. We were happy with the first visit, but had difficulty verifying her shot record with her previous vet. We were told it was no problem, we could just bring her by for the shot once we verified it. They charged us for ANOTHER exam fee less than 2 weeks after her complete physical (exam fee). Really? One shot ended up costing us over $100 for a less than 5 minute visit. To top it off, because of COVID, you can't go in, so they just take your credit card. I never authorized or was told about the charge for the exam fee. The office manager was no help, she said she would have to get the owner to call back. Never happened. Guess we will move along to the next one And I suggest you do too. read more

A friend recommended them after I had a really bad experience at another vet hospital. And I am honestly so impressed at how Nichol's Veterinary Care took care of my cat. It was a completely opposite and great experience here. They are all so patient, caring, and truly knowledgeable! My cat is very timid and can feel threatened easily. I didn't even mention this but they made sure my cat came out of her carrier when she felt comfortable, respected her boundaries and in the end she even relaxed and laid down for scratches. What a nightmare of a business! Save yourself the headache and try anywhere else! First, they instructed me with several reminders to arrive four hours before my dog's appointment, so I did, assuming it was routine for sedation (this was our first time doing it). When I got there they said there was no need to arrive early and they wanted to keep her in a kennel until her appointment. I left my dog with them because they were so forceful about it. I called my husband and we agreed to pick our dog up, bring her home and take her back at her normal appointment time. I took her back several hours later for her scheduled appointment and received a call about an hour after dropping her off that she would be ready for pickup in about 20 mins. I arrive back there twenty minutes later to pick her up and they said she won't be ready for pick up for another half hour. The staff was quite rude. The wait for drop-off/check-in was about 30 minutes. No apology was given for the two major, absurd, inconveniences to my work day. If they are going to act like this directly to me I can only imagine how they treat the animals behind closed doors. read more

I've been going here for years and have mixed emotions. Sadly, I am looking for another veterinary clinic because they completely misdiagnosed my dog. I took him to them 3 times in a month with what began as a cough and they told me to put him on Prilosec for acid reflux. He was dead within the month. My partner and I have lived all over the US for work, so I've visited a lot of veterinary offices spanning both coasts. Dr. Nichols provided one of the best experiences, and I would come back - and refer the practice - without hesitation. When my senior cat was sick and in her last weeks, Dr. Nichols and her staff were caring, empathetic, and patient. Staff took time to answer my questions between visits, they listened and addressed concerns, I never had to wait weeks for an appointment, and their prices are comparable to all other veterinary practices I've been to. One of the biggest differences was that Dr. Nichols provided us with in-depth information and scientific explanations, which I hadn't experienced to this extent. The only other time I was provided with such thorough information on veterinary care was when I worked at a wildlife conservation non-profit and was speaking to the veterinary staff. Lastly, when it came time that our beloved kitty was incapable of enjoying the parts of life she lived for, I was able to get a same-day appointment, but the only opening was with another doctor on staff. When we arrived for our appointment, I was both shocked and relieved when Dr. Nichols walked in. Throughout one of the most difficult experiences, it was a huge weight off our shoulders that we were guided through this process with someone we had grown to trust. Our animal friends are often the most important companions we have, so I'm not surprised that there are some emotionally fueled reviews on here. We've all been having a pretty rough go the past couple years, so in the era we're living in, I personally have been giving more weight to praise than complaints, and am making an effort to give praise where it's deserved. I have been to other vets in different cities. But let me tell you - my dog actually comes out of here happy wagging his tail and obviously not panicked as he usually is at other vets. Just seeing my dog's reaction is all I need to know that they take the best care of my dog here. I trust them and I know they genuinely care about my dog. Normally I would give them a high rating, but phoning them at 8:10 this morning with a cat that had a huge abscess on his left arm, and needed to be seen, was told they were totally booked for the day. I am updating my review to let this business know that after two weeks of needless suffering, our cat Burt Reynolds died from an illness Dr. Allies either missed, or misdiagnosed, or both. He was a beautiful, healthy three year old cat who was sent home by this vet's office to die. We took him in with a suspected UTI or bladder infection (VERY common in neutered male cats); they kept him for four hours to "run tests" (the results of which we have still never gotten, by the way) then sent him home on two pain meds and something to "relax his urethral muscles". By the next morning, he was vomiting and far worse; we rushed him to the Emergency Vet-HIS BLADDER HAD BURST. The ER did emergency surgery, repaired his bladder and his urethra, but the damage was extensive. He suffered a second rupture ten days later, and died. Other things to know: the vet herself (not Dr Nichols- Dr. Allies) never came and spoke with us again after the initial consultation. She sent him out with a tech when we picked him up. This is actually the second time we took Burt to Dr. Ailles with a mystery (to us) illness, only to have her run hundreds of dollars worth of tests, then send him home, essentially telling us it's all in his head (she sent literature home with him this time about how the cause of his bladder infection was psychosomatic- ok, fine- treat it anyway, maybe?). Unfortunately this is the second time I take my two dogs in this place and the last one for sure! Today was to bathe in a Golden 1 year and bath and gromming in a yorkshire, both are very friendly.! The Yorkishire arrived with several faults in the horrible hair still smelled bad, (did not seem to have taken a shower), Golden handed me wet saying she was not quiet. She was visibly trembling with fear and cold. I had taken them on another occasion, which had not been pleasant, but I have been here for a long time and did not know any other place, I decided to give it a second chance! This is THE BEST vet in town. Everyone working there cares about the experience of the client and the patient. Dr. Nichols has been successful for many years because she runs a tight ship, but uses scientific reason as her guide. I respect reasonable people...add scientific training, plus hard-earned experience in the field, and you got what it takes. The other doctors are well vetted, or in Dr. Allies' case; She's a well loved veteran at this office, who's opinion I trust as well as Dr. Nichols. It is a joy to write this review because Parkview Veterinary is fantastic in every way. They are friendly, professional, up-to-date and very caring and competent. We take our 3 dogs and cat to see them and continue to be most satisfied with their services. Dr. Nichols' approach is very open and she listens intently while her treatment options are conservative and very spot-on. Their fees are reasonable and they try to save you money whenever possible. I can't recommend them highly enough, given the history of this practice which took a nose-dive when it changed hands prior to Dr. Nichols. She and her staff have made it an exceptional care center for our 4-legged kids and I'm sure you will be happy with how you and your animals are treated. read more

So glad to find this place, the Vet is very nice and straight forward. If you have an appointment they get you right in. No waiting forever. The staff is super friendly from the guy that checks you in to the Vet Assistants to the Vet herself. I have taken my dog here many times and he has had a few serious issues but she worked with me in getting him all better. A plus is it's very clean bright and sunny. The rooms are small but clean and modern. I am actually allergic to cats/dogs (but have 3 total) and have never left here feeling like I need allergy meds ASAP because they keep it that clean. Prices are reasonable. My dog who usually goes stiff at the door of the Vet happily walks into this office & that says a lot! I would defiantly recommend them to anyone. read more

I like the vet here, she's very sweet and down to earth. for basic pet needs - shots and check ups, i'll continue to go. (note, they have a government/military discount, bring your CAC if appropriate for 10% off) However, my older cat recently came into some health issues - which after a few visits (dr fee every time - even though two of these visits were just shots which she had said we'd need either way, could have been a tech visit and saved me 80 bucks.. ) i realized that the dr's treatment plan wasn't helping. we ended up calling a family friend who's a vet for advice, and he thought that the way my kitty was being treated for her problem was inappropriate and shouldn't have gotten as bad as it did... read more

Like most vets these days they are just out to make as much money as possible off every animal. They brought me a charge sheet to accept which I denied 2 of the things but still got charged because they had already done it. Why bring it to me if I don't really have the option to say no? Nichols Vet was recommend to me by many on the Next Door Neighborhood App. I needed a new vet that was willing to see my pup quicker than 2 or 3 weeks when she was sick, rather than taking her to the emergency vet as they recommended. Nichols got me in so quickly I was amazed. They took good care of her and I am now scheduled for a routine exam/vaccinations/medications. I have been taking my three cats here for about 4 years. Like others have said they are great with basic care, checkups and the like. However my senior kitty is having some health issues they didn't seem able to treat and I needed to seek out another vet for a second opinion. I think that for basic care this is a good vet. However if there is a prolonged illness/ unknown in your pets life I would seek out a second opinion, some of the vets they contract with are flakey. read more

Traci might be the worst office manager in the history of managing. Completely unprofessional and ridiculous. The rest of the staff are just as bumbling and incompetent. Listening to the things they said about another customer made my stomach sick and I left and will never return to such a vindictive, mean group. Honestly, im not sure how the vet is because I wouldn't want to be around the people in the front who make up policies and say horrible things about customers. I will start by saying that I have not actually taken my pet here or received care here. I'm writing this review based solely on my interaction with them over the phone. My cat was injured and our regular vet (not this vet) informed us that he needed a tooth extraction and a cleaning. They quoted us an outrageous amount, so I decided to call around and try to get estimates at other vets. I called several places in Monterey and Salinas and Nichols Vet was the only place who was kind enough to give me an estimate. I understand no one can give me an exact quote without seeing my animal, but I just wanted to know their base charges for the procedure. The receptionist was very kind and happy to provide me with the info. None of the other vets would do it and all wanted me to bring my cat in for an exam first. One even said they didn't have base prices. (Really, so they just make it up for each individual animal?). The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because, unfortunately, the estimate Nichols gave me was even higher than my regular vet. Sigh. But, I did appreciate the information very much.
