Best salmon I ever had in my life. Don't listen to what they say about the halibut. Get the salmon. You won't regret it.

We made reservations for an anniversary dinner a few days in advance. When we arrived, we were given a lunch menu. I assumed they made a mistake and asked the waitress if there were dinner menus. She said that they were changing the menu and the hours, starting the day we were there. Why the gentleman that took our reservations didn't inform us of the upcoming change is poor business. We wanted a romantic anniversary dinner and not a hamburger and chicken sandwich. Stunningly good food and service. We were a group of six and had the stuffed mushroom and oyster appys. For dinner it was steak, salmon, bouillabaisse, crab ravs, and cod. Each was beautiful and exquisitely prepared. Absolutely no criticism on any of the food or service. I wonder if Sequim knows what a great place this is. read more

We were on our way back to Seattle after a weekend on the Olympic Peninsula and wanted a nice lunch to top the whole birthday celebration weekend off. Sequim was at the right place at the right time. i.e. we arrived there around lunchtime and didn't want to be hungry on the ferry ride back nor did we want to eat on the ferry or one of those not-lovely restaurants near the ferry terminal. Mostly, I wanted a view of the water and some seafood --- the NAME Dockside Grill sure suggested that we'd get a view. I kinda judged this book by it's cover, so to speak, and the two earlier Yelp reviews didn't scare me away. There is a nice view from the outside of the restaurant. There is no outdoor seating. When you go in, make sure you choose a table carefully: near the glass sliding doors. Otherwise, your view is mostly of the tops of sails and the clouds and the wood walls covering most of the bottom half of the restaurant. They have binoculars and a bird guide book on the windowsills somewhere. Help yourself to it! We did. He ordered the coconut prawns and I ordered the cioppino (pictured in the photos with this review). Both hit the spot JUST right. Very yummy. You get three coconut prawns served on a bed of french fries. The dipping sauce is lovely. The Northwest Cioppino has some angel hair pasta and cheese - but not too much of either. They give you a fine and generous serving of crab, salmon, and shellfish. The scallops I got were chewy (this is a bad thing for me). The broth with this was fantastic and was enhanced by these great onions in there. Red onions? It was $18 for this and I was impressed by the size of it, considering it's a lunchtime portion. We could have split oit between us, but I am kinda glad we didn't. We ate too much - and that was part of the goal. Still a bit pricey for Sequim, though. Every other customer in the restaurant was older than 50. Between that and the dark woods and the heavy leather binder which is the menu, it feels a bit on the "stodgy" side ... but the food and friendly servers more than make up for it. I was told to make reservations since the restaurant is very very small. All the tables face the water. It was so lovely city here at sunset. We ordered wine, champagne, and two pasta dishes. The pasta dishes came with a soup or a salad. The food was fair to medium, and the service was good. We opted to Share Dessert and the bill for two people was right around $100 read more

Lots of potential but on the night we visited, they were out of the advertised daily special. The stuffed halibut sounded great until the server mentioned that they were out of crab to stuff the halibut with and were substituting shrimp. That simply doesn't work. The prices were high - which is fine if the food is great. Sadly, on the night we visited, we left unimpressed and a bit disappointed. I'm so glad we found this place on yelp We've been driving by the area for 3 years but because we never got to the marina. GREAT seafood... I had the boulibasse (sp? [seafood soup]) that was great. Deb had the Cuban pork sandwich. A tiny bit pricye compared to others but worth every penny. Make reservations for dinner this place is pretty small.one small example... Usually the shrimp are overcooked and rubberery but these were thrown in just at the right tine and was perfectly done along with the halibut, salmon, scallops, clams in a wondeful saffron broth. Fabulous seafood and service !!! We are tourists from California and staying in the Port Angeles area. We checked the area of Sequim on our iPhone map and this restaurant popped up with a 4 star review so we drove the 20 miles to check it out. The location was in a great spot and right on the bay. We met the chef/owner outside while he was taking a break. We did not have reservations but luckily they were able to seat us at a table in their bar area. We were very happy as we realize during these pandemic times staffing is short and demand for service can be high. Our servers were friendly and knowledgeable. They were super busy serving several tables but our service was amazing. The food was the best we have had in the past few days. Fresh local bread, stuffed mushrooms, Rockefeller oysters, dockside prawns, fresh halibut, desserts, coffee, wine and bourbon. Everything was fresh and delicious. Thank you Steve, the owner and your whole entire staff and family !!! We definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants good food and service. For those people that were dissatisfied with the waiting time, make a reservation !!! This is a popular place and you should feel lucky if you pop in and are seated right away. read more

Holy carp, what a gem of a restaurant! One of my favorite places to eat in the NW! Their lunch and dinner menus are delicious. Every dish I've ordered hasn't disappointed. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Dinner reservations are recommended (once dining returns to normal after the pandemic). And you have to have the clam chowder at lunch. You won't regret it! Our favorite place for seafood when visiting the Sequim area. Setting is wonderful in the John Wayne Mariner. The views out on the bay are breathtaking, especially at sunset. Service is outstanding, wine selection is impressive, and everything is five star. Partook in the chef special of halibut covered in Dungeness crab with couscous. Spouse had the cioppino. Both dishes were wonderful. Unfortunately there was no room for desert, might have to go back for just coffee and desert some day. read more

Went for husbands birthday dinner- Flavorful calamari , wonderful dishes! Most of the family had seafood fettuccine, I had prawns - they were delicious . Even the side pasta that came with was like nothing I've had before . The service was excellent , she was very kind and patient with our questions. I live out of the area but head to Sequim once or twice a year for some R&R at the John Wayne Resort next to the marina. Getting dinner at the Dockside Grill is always at the top of our to do list while we are there. My family has never had a bad meal here. Everything is always fresh, well flavored, and perfectly cooked. Hubby and I are HUGE "Steamers" fans and order them pretty much everywhere we go. The steamers here are SOOOOOO flavorful that we order an extra bread basket to go with just so we can sop up every delicious bite of that wonderful broth! Service is impeccable as well. The restaurant is not cheap, but oh so worth the expense. I follow them on FB and recently saw an announcement that they were losing their longtime Chef. Sure hope they can find another of similar talent because I would hate to see this place go downhill. Guess I'll know soon enough as we have another visit to Sequim slated for next month. read more

While the menu looked amazing, the execution was poor. I had the seafood Alfredo which tasted like it came out of a frozen meal. The seafood lacked seasoning and was not cooked in the sauce long enough to soak up any flavor. While the Alfredo sauce was decent, flavorless seafood and watery sauce for $30 felt like a rip off. On the other hand, the restaurant did have wonderful customer service which was an upside. I am sure that the quality of the food at the moment may be due to COVID and the lack of employees. read more

We arrived around 1:30 on a Friday - a little cloudy a little windy - had two dogs so we sat at one of the 3 two seat tables on the outside - had a wonderful server who was ver kind and cheerful - also steered us to the oyster stew which was out of this world good - I cant rave about it enough - the oysters were humongous and there was plenty of potatoes and bacon in the unctuous broth. I would get this 3 days a week if I lived in Sequim (pronounced Squim as I learned having never been up here). Comes with two Parmesan cheese crostini's as if it needed any more deliciousness. Also had the calamari which was amazing in its own right - not soaked in oil and just enough of a coating but the flavor of the squid comes through and you can accent with a homemade cocktail sauce and a little greens for some color. Food was pretty lackluster. I had the oysters, seafood fettuccine , and chocolate moose. Oysters were fresh but small and they didn't tell me where they were from, pasta had lovely seafood in it but pretty bland, and chocolate mouse was like a pudding cup mixed with whipped cream and not a true mousse. Magical, simply magical. You need to try this place - especially when considering a romantic evening for two. The chef... no wait, the kitchen crew was incredible. Everything we ordered was prepared to perfection, and the service was outstanding - beyond attentive. We had the Dungeness Crab Fritters - PERFECT (which is a rarity). I tried a dozen Dungeness Silver Pearl oysters - PERFECT. My wife had the catch of the day, lightly grilled - PERFECT, and I thought I'd reach for the top - the Bouillabaisse. I've had the best Bouillabaisse France has to offer and wasn't expecting anything special - my mistake. The Bouillabaisse was PERFECT. I dragged pieces of baguette through the remainder to ensure I didn't miss a drop. I asked, and received, permission to visit the kitchen: It was spotless, busy, well stationed, and classy. Everything was in it's place and the chef and staff moved as one. The wines by the glass were excellent. The Manhattan before dinner was perfect. Like I said, it was "magical." The Dockside Grill is not the largest restaurant in Sequim (too bad), so get there early or make a reservation. You won't be disappointed. read more

Long time local resident and have not been here for many years. Last time was terrible and these are new owners, I think. Got good recommendations so we took some out-of-town guests out looking for seafood. Three of four entree's were 9 or 10 on a scale of ten. The seafood Alfredo was barely a 4. Flavorless like out of a can. Salt did not help. Chippino and clams in linguine were great. The staff was OK, but seemed like many other places, plenty of off-the-shelf excuses why the service can be sub-par. Staffing, supply chain, Covid. All that said, it would have gotten a 5 star if it had not been so loud. The beautiful setting and weather called for peaceful serenity. The prices were slightly high for the whole package, especially since the ambiance was bar-like. I will go back. read more

We there today - based on the wonderful reviews. I was sadly disappointed. Not only was it super tiny, it was dirty and in need of a facelift. Had I not had kids with me (that were hungry) I would have walked immediately back out. The views were nice & service was friendly. The food was pretty good. Not fantastic/ not bad though either. When I hear of a restaurant with "Grill" in the title, I think of a "bar and grill" type of place. That is definitely not what this place is. We were visiting in the area and were craving seafood so we called in a reservation - which I strongly suggest doing as the dining room was small and intimate. The waitress was very attentive and patient as we decided what to order. The food was phenomenal! The Shrimp and Grits, wow! Amazing. I really regret not taking a picture before I started eating but it really was delicious. We topped it all off with a Creme Brûlée that was to die for. Outstanding!! We called to see if they had a place to watch the Seahawk game and they immediately said "yes, in the Pelican Room". When we got there, they had a table set just for us, including Seahawk napkins and the TV set to the game. Our waitress, Taylene, kept the multiple seafood and drink courses coming for three hours! Taken to our table in the Pelican Room (bar area) as we expected. No tablecloth, but mosquitoes and flies because the door was kept open. I feel like this place can't decide how fancy it wants to be - probably just an inevitable pit fall of being situated right on the marina. I was worried I would be underdressed, but there were people there in shorts and flip flops (as well as people there dressed much nicer than I was in my nice jeans and blouse - it really ran the gamut). I would say come as you are, and you will be accepted. The service was great, the food was amazing, the ambiance was a little lacking, and the prices were predictably high. Stopped by based on good feedback on yelp. Got hassled Because we did not have reservations. Owner suggestion: PUT A NOTICE ON YELP that patrons should call ahead for limited seating. I felt we were seated at the worst table a 'punishment'. Food was most excellent. I wish there were seconds available as the food was that good. I could tell they were having staffing challenges. Training 1 new staff. With 3 wait staff covering about 12 tables, service was slow even when restaurant was less than 1/2 full. Had to ask for bread service. Which when provided was terrific I hope to visit again, but will certainly call ahead. For group of 4, we spent $200. read more
