After the first place we picked was randomly closed, and the second place had a broken pizza oven, we ended up in downtown irwin....starving. We stopped here last night for pizza at about 8pm. It's our favorite place to stop to eat when we travel MI to PA several times a year. As we arrived, we were told they were getting ready to close for the evening. We stated we thought they were open until 9pm. At that point, we were told to come on in, sit down, have a beverage, and he would make whichever pizza type we desired. It was so good! Delicious crust! This is another great location right in the downtown Irwin area. I enjoyed the dynamic of the restaurant and would give the service a 5/5 and the environment a 3/5. I grade it with a 3 because it's a slightly above average pizza restaurant. There was nothing incredibly sensational about the place but they do provide a nice alternative to you traditional brick over pizza. In contrast, Blaze has the edge based on ones ability to build their own pizza and having a better diverse range of toppings. Suggestion I would like to see something original derive from this establishment. Not sure if it could be soft drinks or a dessert. Something I lacking, and I hope to give them another chance soon. read more

I wish I could give you an honest review of their food, but I had to throw it in the dumpster because when I went in to get my pickup order, not a single employee was wearing a mask, including the chef. Not only that, but I watched the server take a napkin holder off one table, wipe it down with nothing more than a dry napkin, and place it on a table with two unsuspecting guests. I was happy to pay for my order, because I DO want to support small businesses and help them get through this terrible time. I wish the owners and staff felt the same. You've got to stop by the woodfired restaurant and try their personal pier I'm trying to think exactly what the name is it's called or pure just not for the pure solid with. I get the chicken on top of it. It will come on this huge plate and eat you know what I always get my salad dressing. It's a strawberry glaze salad dressing. I always get it on the side because the salad is so huge you're not gonna be able to eat it all and I have a meal for like at least two days that's not being that's all it is and it is so delicious. One of my biggest pet peeves is a restaurant that has too many menu items because, honestly, we all know you can't be good at making everything. Which is why Do Wood Fired works so well - they have a small menu that consists of pizza, salads, and sandwiches. That's it and it's a perfect concept. My husband and I had lunch here today - we both got a do-wich, which is a sandwich, sort of. It was explained to us that a do-wich is an 8 inch pizza dough filled with the toppings of your choice, then folded over in a half circle. Picture a wedgie or open stromboli. Anyway, I ordered the Blackened Chicken - chicken, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and fire mayo. (They were out of cheddar cheese so I substituted provolone.) My husband order the Italian - ham, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, roasted peppers and vinaigrette. Since the sandwiches were so big, we decided to each have half. I have to say I liked the Italian better than mine, it was filled more and just had more flavor. Pros? There's tons. Our server was friendly and one of the owners came over to talk to us. He was also friendly, asked where we're from, how we liked our lunch, etc. The place is clean and has a cool look - wood walls, chalk board along the bar area. They also use disposal plates and utensils, which I'm assuming helps with overhead. The best part is the menu. I already mentioned that it isn't big, which is great, focus of a few things that you do good. Plus, you know produce is always fresh. But the very best part is this - no charge for toppings, extras, cheese, etc. The menu is a paper one, which you fill out and give to your server (think Burgatory). Anyway, for example, all salads are $9.90. You choose what vegetables you want (mushrooms, banana peppers, olives), cheese (feta, blue, cheddar), meats (pepperoni, ham, chicken, steak, anchovies), and dressing (ranch, casesar, balsamic) and it's the same price, regardless of how many things you want. So you're not paying a buck for cheese, $3 for a second meat, or what have you...which always makes me feel like I"m being ripped off, ya know? Same goes for their pizzas. Ingenious! I would really give this place 4.5 stars. The concept is great, the menu is smart, and I love seeing small businesses work. Especially in the Irwin area, which is home to so many fast food restaurants and over-priced establishments that may work in the city, but not so much here. My only complaint was my sandwich, which simply either had too much dough or not enough filling. I ended up ripping most of the pizza dough off because it was just too much to try and eat. Regardless, I will definitely be back to try something else! read more

When I call for takeout it's always a struggle for the person on the other end to hear me. When I go to pick up my order, there's music blaring from the kitchen. Since the pizza oven and dining areas are open, the unedited music spills into the dining area. Lately it seems as if the staff is unsupervised and it's reflected not only with customer interaction but also in the food. The doneness of the pizza greatly varies, even if multiple pizzas are placed in the same order. Charred or doughy, the pizza is always soggy in the middle. I ordered a build your own salad and requested spinach. The salad had a thick base layer of shredded iceberg with just enough spinach leaves to cover it so that I didn't find the iceberg until I dug in. The dowiches are decent but you have to get the sauce on the side for takeout or you'll be left with a soggy mess. Bring back a crew like there was when Do's first opened, and be consistent. I'm happy to continue to support local business but don't take advantage of your loyal customer base by cutting corners. read more

Omg, the Philly pizza was the best all 3 of us had ever had and we immediately felt welcome by the cooks! We got 1/2 steak 1/2 chicken philly pizza. They were both great but we all agreed that the steak was better. We also got the 1972. Pretty solid and both cooked to perfection. The philly was the favorite, however! Throw in a 6 pack of BYOB Yuengling and the best server ever, Madison, and you have an all over fabulous experience! So happy we picked this place on our way to N Carolina. The skinny: They have a nice menu of pizza and sandwiches that, as a customer, you get to choose with a pencil or pen to correctly select your order and reconfirmed with your server (to avoid any mistakes). We have really liked DO's pizza in the past. But, the past 2 times it hasn't been baked enough and was "floppy"!. In addition, this time we got the wrong pizzas and they weren't very good. I didn't find out until I got home and I wasn't driving back to exchange them. This little pizza joint in Irwin is a great place. The three owners are a riot as they make the food. We ate there in October and when we came back in November they remembered us. My wife does not use dairy so they were happy to use our Goat cheese and all the toppings she wanted. She was happy as a kid since it has been years since we could go "out" for pizza. Ordered takeout here during a recent overnight stay in town. The menu isn't too extensive -- pizzas, salads, and "do-whiches" which are basically sandwiches made with pizza crust bread. The menu shows options of toppings and salad fixings so you can customize your own pizza or salad but also lists "favorites" that are pre-set options. My husband and I both opted for do-whiches. I had the Veggie that included roasted vegetables with mozzarella and pesto mayo and my husband ordered the Italian. They had me at pesto mayo, so I ended up loving everything about my sandwich. Fresh ingredients and a really tasty combo. Do Wood-Fired was a little far from our hotel so by the time my husband got back from picking it up, the bottom piece of bread had gotten a little soggy and the bread was only warm for a little while, but it was still good, even that way (this is obviously not something they can control -- I'm just noting that even under less than ideal conditions, I still think it was great). They're probably unbeatable as an eat-in item. Fun spin on a sandwich! As I said, we ordered takeout so I can't speak too much to the service, but the woman I spoke with on the phone was polite and efficient and our order was ready on time. We met some friends there from across town. We like BYOB and thIs is a go at this restaurant. Wood fired pizza ovens and large salads. Seating is limited but adequate. I think they have outdoor seating in the summer. They have two pizza sizes- small and large and a gluten free option. Thin crust and they have some recommended combinations, However you can put as many toppings on as you wish, all for the same price as a plain pizza. Two pizzas - two prices - less than $12 for a small and $16 foot a large! We had the Sunny Day pizza and added a few more toppings. The wait staff was friendly and efficient! We will definitely revisit! It tasted great and the BYOB was a big plus! read more
