Victoria's Secret - Dressing room

Victoria's Secret

What happened to the Victoria's Secret experience?…read more Years ago, it felt special. Associates greeted you with a smile, measured you with care, and walked you through the fitting process like a trusted friend. It was personal, empowering and almost like a rite of passage. I walked into an empty store and was completely ignored. No "hello," no offer to help, no fitting support. Just silence. When I asked for a fitting room, it was unlocked without a word. Checkout felt robotic. It used to feel meaningful. Now it feels hollow. Victoria's Secret, we miss the heart you used to have. Please bring the magic back.

As a trans person who is still not very passable, I like to make sure I'm working with people who…read moreare comfortable with me, and are willing to actually consult, not just throw product at me. If you're a Victoria's Secret model, or even just a 'normally' shaped woman, you could pick stuff off of the shelf. But for me, I need someone to see what will and won't work, to take a look at it when I have it on and tell me how it looks, etc, Unfortunately, department stores don't have that kind of service. I search for other lingerie shops, and most of them are porn shops with adult toys. So I figured I would give Victoria's Secret a try, even though I've been disappointed in the past. I called the one at the shops at Southtown, in Sandy Utah. I spoke to a nice woman named Callie, who said anyone in the store would be totally comfortable with an LGBTQ person, but she would be glad to help me. She would be in until four. This was about 10:30 in the morning. So I went to the store around two. As usual, none of the clerks, give me a second glance, in fact they ignore me. When I asked for Callie at the register, I found out that she supposedly called in sick today. Really! Then how had she answered the phone this morning? But the girl at the register said the same thing, that any of the girls would be happy to help me. She said she would be glad to, but she was assigned the restaurant the time. So she called the store manager. The store manager, who had looked right past me when I walked in. Who is a short, obis, not very attractive person, physically, or personality wise. Nonetheless, I thought I'd give her a chance. She showed me one item, shoved me in a fitting room, and close the door on me, and disappeared. The item wasn't even close to what I needed, so I left it in the fitting room and took off. She was nowhere to be found. I will never frequent Victoria's Secret again, and I recommend you make the same commitment. I will pay premium prices for good quality service, and good products. Neither is available here.

I love Scheels. I like how they are organized that somehow makes shopping comfortable. The layout…read moreof the store is great, from clothing to camping to the cafe to hunting to toys. There is a great selection and variety. I mostly go for the toys. There is a specific toy that I seek and this is the place to find them. While their toy department is not huge and is just a relatively smaller department within the store, what they do have is quality stuff, things that people actually seek out. Lego sets, RCs, educational children's toys, games, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent selection of disc golf discs. They even had some of one of my favorite brands, Kastaplast! Either Kastaplast is finally getting some mainstream recognition or Scheels has a good sporting goods manager. Speaking of which, Ashton is a great guy and truly thinks of the customer first and the customer's experience. There were even Zuca disc golf carts there. And they were all on sale. Another aspect to love about Scheels are the things you can do there like mini bowling, shooting arcade, and the Ferris wheel. You can have a date there for cheap! And then go to the cafe for a meal or treats. BTW, the jerky they sell there is excellent! All the employees there are very helpful. In some small ways, Scheels is better than Bass Pro, Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse. In this competitive market, small ways is what stands you apart. I really like those other stores, too, but Scheels just feels different. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

Sorry to do this but things are very different at Scheels than in the past…read more I spent 30 minutes in the Kuhl department and no one even offered help or bothered to say hello. (I had several questions) 10 minutes in golf department. Same story. 20 minutes in BBQ and the two guys there seemed more worried about the display looking great than offering help. I've always loved Scheels but I am very disappointed with the current lake of service or lack of. I hope things improve! (I only spent $250)

It's also possible we no longer have the same numbers of people who actually backpack, and do backcountry activities, and want quality gear. I don't know. I've been coming here for 30+ years. I've spent many thousands of dollars. I don't go much anymore, so the dramatic decline in stock threw me off. For me, it's because I bought the kind of gear in my 20's and 30's that will last forever, and I'm in my 60's now. I have a reason not to do so much backpacking. In the day, the aisles were narrow and the place was filled to overflowing with everything. They had the regular brands, but they had nearly every one of the esoteric, specialty brands too. Today, outside of North Face, nothing in quality sleeping bags. It looks like a place heading out of business. I was there to look for shirts. In the day, they had as much nice outdoor styled clothing as you find total clothing in the big box store. There just wasn't much to choose from today. Walking around you could see the empty walls that held shoes, boots, and similar. I'm so sad. I assume there will always be a market for the car camping gear that Springbar tent owners are going to need. The Springbar tents are great. I don't own one, although I bought both my backpacking and car camping tents there.

Hooray for the local guy!…read more Kirkham's has always been one of my favorite outdoors stops, and there are some pretty compelling reasons why. First of all, they employ people who are passionate about the outdoors and who, generally speaking, know what they are talking about. There's no push for corporate outdoorsness--I've often felt like I was chatting with a buddy when talking things over with their staff. Second, I like the location. Just off of State Street near the 33rd South exit of I-15. Nice. Third, they carry some quality stuff. The lightweight, high-quality, not El Cheapo stuff is their specialty, and they do it well. Lots of it is set up or out for display so you can get a good look at what you're after. The biggest reason I'm a fan is those Springbar tents. If you're not familiar, a Springbar tent is the greatest family/Scout troop/group tent known to man. They're immortal. They're super easy to set up. They weigh about a half a ton, but they're a tent you buy and pass down to your kids. For real. A few other bonus features: they have a decent selection of climbing gear, they have a tent repair area, they have random tent material (seam sealer, no-see-um mesh, tent stakes, etc.) and a nice book and map selection. Also, I dig the dog hiking gear and the clothing sections.

The level of service has dropped off considerably and customer service and business practices at this location are now shady at best. Manager engages in bait and switch practices and sales associates are either new, incompetent or shady as well. I went in last week to purchase a belt and specifically inquired about black Friday deals on custom suits. The sales rep told me they would be 30% off for black Friday and that sale would start on Wednesday the night before thanksgiving. I go into the store on black Friday. I confirmed with the sales associate that the suits were 30% off and proceeded to take measurements and get fitted for four suits. When I go to check out the discount is not present. Sales associate checked with manager and he said there was no sale on the custom suits. I told him I had specifically confirmed the sale on custom suits with two different sales associates on two separate days. Dude could care less and told me to go pound sand in his polite manager way. Steer clear of this location. There are plenty of other options around the valley or online with trained associates and managers who don't routinely engage with bait and switch practices.
