DMK Burger Bar 2954 N Sheffield Ave, Chicago IL 60657 October 28, 2022 Friday - 11:45 AM for lunch 1 Adult Atmosphere - 5 stars Food - 5 stars Service - 5 stars Background - I finally have some time on this business trip to venture out and try a Diner, Drive-In, and Dives restaurant. Looks like my lunch is my exploring time during this trip. Atmosphere - It really is a bar with food. I sat at the bar for my lunch. Dark walls is the theme to the place. Great tap selection and more beers in the fridge behind the bar. Food Drink - Beer for Lounging by Off Color Brewing. I love getting local beer. Lunch - I had what Guy featured on Triple D, the Bison Burger. You can never go wrong with Bison. The burger came with goat cheese, grilled onions, and the star of the show the blueberry bbq sauce. Bison needs something extra and the cheese blueberry bbq sauce was a perfect match for it. Service - The bartender was great. I had a hard time find the tag that Guy leaves after he is done. He pointed it out to me and then we started talking about the show and other local places. Future - Love too. Does this place say Triple D to me nope, but there was great food. read more

The burger itself was good but nothing special to me. The service was pretty quick and accommodating. The ambiance was moderately busy - nothing crazy but it can get busier for sure so you might want to make a reso for a bigger party read more

Starting with the best part of my meal at DMK: the sweet potato fries!! DMK has some of the best sweet potato fries I've ever tried at a restaurant. On the outside, nicely seasoned and perfectly crispy. On the inside, so so fluffy. On the whole, divine! I wasn't as keen on the patty melt that I ordered. The portion was massive, which was great, but I thought the classic burger + bacon flavors meshed in an odd way with the rye bread. At some point I remember scraping out the meats, eating it as a grilled cheese, and thinking that I preferred it that way. If I were to come back to DMK, I'd probably opt for their more traditional burgers or slice the patty melt in two, pre-designating half as the next day's lunch. read more

Went in for lunch on Friday at 1 pm and the place was completely empty. Burgers were alright, nothing to brag about. Fries were limp and a bit soggy. Got charged $100 for 3 mediocre Manhattans and the bartender just blamed his manager for the pricing saying how it's pretty ridiculous. Honestly it felt like we got scammed. If the price point is so different from everything else on the menu I feel like a little heads up would have been nice. But they took our money with a smile. 1 star is being generous. Never again. read more

DMK is a great burger spot in the city but they have so much more. It was so fun to put booze in our shakes. The onion strings are a must! We also really enjoyed their Buffalo and BBQ wings. read more

Had a quick dinner before a concert at the Vic Theatre last Sunday. Service was friendly. Food and drinks were great.

I first fell in love with DMK 12 years ago when I saw them on Diners Drive ins and Dives and I've been a regular ever since! The cocktails are always tasty and they have a good beer menu. Their fries are my favorite in Chicago! I love them all but the bacon and blue cheese is my favorite! They do not skimp on the fry toppings either! I've tried all of their burgers and there isn't one that I don't like. I love how unique the burgers are here and how you can choose between beef, bison, turkey, veggie, or grilled or crispy chicken. My favorite burger is the big DMK which is like a Big Mac but way better! Be sure to save room for dessert because their milkshakes are to die for! So good and creamy and you can add booze if you like! The chocolate peanut butter is my favorite! I highly recommend checking out DMK if you're in the Lakeview area. read more

I had very high expectations coming into this place considering Guy Fieri hyped this place up. They also have a wide variety of burgers and combinations that you're bound to find something that piques your interest. My experience however was slightly mediocre. I feel like there wasn't much to their burger to justify the price premium and it's definitely levels below other burgers I've tasted for a similar price point. We also got the Wisconsin Cheddar fries and oddly enough it was just too cheesy? It's almost as if the cheese tasted artificial here. Overall the service is great but I think you could get a better deal at a fast food burger place. read more

RATING: 8/10 Another solid burger place in Chicago. Came here upon Guy Fieri's recommendation, and had to try the famous Bison Burger. This is definitely an incredibly rich burger with the goat cheese and bison so definitely keep that in mind. I personally really enjoyed the burger because of the unique pairing of flavors. The creaminess of the goat cheese, the gamey bison flavor, the sweet blueberry sauce, and the acidic pickled onions made for a unconventional taste which I found incredibly interesting. The bun was also very unexpected since it's wide and hollow/pillowy yet flat. And for the unexpected highlight of the meal....the fries. These fries aren't your Mcdonald's fries or soggy bland diner fries. The sweet potato fries have a light crispy coating and a heavenly hot and soft inside. Absolutely perfect! It came with a lemon aioli which was also pretty damn delicious. The hot crispy fries made for the perfect complement to the burger and cut through the richness. Come here if you wanna try some pretty wacky and unique burgers. My friend got a burger sandwiched between rye bread which we had never seen before. But absolutely ABSOLUTELY do NOT miss out on the sweet potato fries! read more

Ugh, so disappointing. I saw the reviews were mostly positive, so I convinced my bf we'd order from here- he wanted to order elsewhere for a burger, but I wanted a chicken sandwich. The menu looked promising with many options and combinations. The food arrived within the timeframe it said it would, but everything was cold and soggy!! Fries, chicken wings.. sandwiches were wet and mushy.. The restaurant is only 2.4 miles from me, and it wasn't cold outside, so my guess is the restaurant made the food too early and had it sit long. Either way, the flavors were not good enough to help the situation either! (I reheated everything). The only saving grace was the salad. read more

Located in the heart of DePaul/Lincoln Park, had to come out after having this place book marked for quite some time now. DMK is certainly known for its burgers. Parked on the street and walked about 3 blocks to get here - it's good to get your steps in, if you eat and drink as much as I do. I strive for 10,000 steps per day. Once in, there's a lotta cool signage and there was certainly a neighborhood crowd, gathering for lunch. The place is deep and the gentleman who spoke to us said, "come over here" as he motioned to a table in the back. He must of managed a parking garage at some point. How about a, "Hello, welcome, I have a table for you right here, how are you today?" Despite this greeting, our server was very friendly and she explained the burgers and their special for that day - a steak tartar burger. We enjoyed the creamy coleslaw topped with scallions and my Rambler burger (shouldn't this be called the Blue Demon burger?) was excellent, as it came with crunchy bacon. A bit pricey for burgers but it was good to finally try DMK. read more

Honestly, for a place that specializes in burgers, the burger I had from here was just okay. I don't think I liked the burger because the bun wasn't that good and kinda ruined it for me. The fries were very good and the cheese curds were decent! I did not like the fact the cheese curds came with a garlic aioli, it would have been better with a ranch or even marinara. My server was very nice and I came during happy hour so my cheese curds were only $6 and they give you a lot! I was also the only person when I dinned in and the place was clean! I will be back, maybe order something that isn't a burger next time. read more

I strolled on in by myself on a Thursday night around 7 pm and took a seat at the bar. There was plenty of seats as it seems most people were enjoying places with patios as the weather was beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised they had fancy sodas on the menu. They were out of the blood orange (the one I wanted) but the bartender recommended his favorite and the name escapes me but it was very light and crisp. I think these are seasonal or change as the were written on the menu board. I really just wanted a burger, so I ordered the number 8. It came with big slices of tomato and pickles. I was able to get a gluten free bun (toasted on the same grill as other buns so there might be cross contamination) they also had waffle buns and lettuce buns. I really really enjoyed my burger. I also ordered the sea salt and pepper fries. They were good...but pretty standard. Service was phenomenal! Overall, a great experience dining at DMK! read more

Walked to DMK burger on a quite afternoon. It was slightly before the lunch rush, so it was plenty of seating available. The host set me in the open dining room . The chairs looked like refurbished church pews ( really cool ) the restaurant has a cozy, yet upscale feel. Service was stellar. I was advised that DMK is the initials of the two owners. I ordered a build your our burger and chose the Ground Turkey burger!!! It was absolutely amazing!! One of the best turkey burgers I've ever had. Fries were fresh cut potatoes yummy!! Definitely a treat. If I'm ever back in Chicago I will definitely stop back in. 10/10 read more

Overall food is good, second time coming here. First time ordered for pickup due to Covid...bison burger and sweet potato fries... everything was good other than the fact that they DID NOT put any cheese whatsoever on it. Sweet potato fries were good and for what the burger had, it was good so i figured I'll come back again before writing a review. Fast foward 3 months - ordered a number 8, and number 7. The number 7(big dmk) was good, had everything on it and no complaints. The number 8(classic), good BUT missing cheese...again??? Cmon really? Even left a tip... honestly two times is enough for me to just not come back as there are hundreds of other burger spots in Chicago that have never messed my order up, not to mention twice lol. Whatever, put my own cheese on it at home and guzzled it down. I noticed there are other reviews that had the same problem, seems to be a common thing here. Oh well, will take my business elsewhere. read more

I came in here with my fiancé this past Friday & we got seated no water nothing just like seemed like the staff completely ignored us. As we waited and waited about 20 minutes go by not even a waiter stopped to say " hey would you guys like something to drink as you wait for your waiter" it just would've kept us there longer but I'm pregnant so I really wanted to try out this burger my fiancé kept telling me about. Mind you we were still waiting there just passing us not paying us any mind. We decided to finally walk out and the manager I'm guessing was like sit sit I'll take your order we were like no thanks we had get up and leave and that's what made you finally come up to us yeah no thanks. We ended up going to another burger spot near by called farm bar lakeview when I tell you there burgers were amazing service was so fast mind you they had alot alot more people than dmk had like two tables full in there. We were like well there probably be a wait nope they seated us quick gave us some water came back took our order and we ate. That's what I call hospitality. read more

Trashy, empty, and disrespectful. I discovered this place from Guy Fieri. He raved about their burger on diners, drive ins, and dives. I came here to try the bison burger. I walked in to a nearly empty - but almost stylishly so - restaurant. There was cool artwork on the wall and the server had a ponytail. This was about to be some bomb food. So I sat at my table, and waited! And I waited. And I waited... and I waited. Eventually the server came to my table and asked if I needed anything and I said that I was ready to order and had been waiting for 20+ minutes. I guess there was a misunderstanding, and they thought I was waiting for one more person. The server took my order and then came back a minute later and accused me of filming him...? I have literally never EVER filmed anyone without their consent, ever. Let alone, this wasn't even a situation that would warrant filming. He came back and said they would make my order to go and asked me to leave. Essentially "kicking me out" because I was "rude" and because I "filmed them". Neither of which was true. When the server brought my food out, he said "hey do you wanna step outside and have a chat real quick?". Being the forgivable, understanding kind soul that I am, I figured this was a good chance to maybe clear some cloudy air. I stepped outside and asked why he felt that I had filmed him, and he said he saw me with my phone like this *phone sideways in video mode*. I assured him I had not recorded a single frame of him or even taken a photo and offered to show him my photo library and my Instagram to prove so. He declined, and just insisted he knew what he saw and that I was no longer welcome. Maybe it was because I'm a minority? I mean, I never assume that, but since he's making up stories, maybe I should too! Anyway, this place is racist and trashy and it was empty on a Sunday evening after a Cubs game, so do with that information what you will. I ended up going to Weiners Circle instead, where they called me a piece of shit asshole, and I still had a better experience. 0/5 stars. read more

Parent? Ever glance at that cool restaurant across the street and think "oof, I want to go in there, but it looks too. i dunno. too something. probably can't bring my family there." That's DMK. It has a vibe outside like its the place the cool kids go to get a drink and fancy burgers. The dark windows. Hip signage. But you'd be so wrong. Have a baby? Go in. Stroller parking to the left. Toddler getting a little hangry? No sweat. Wait staff will get some free fries on your table before you even have a chance to get your own jacket off. You would not guess this place is so family friendly from the outside. But alas, they've made our family feel super welcome. Over the years, this has been a regular go to. Whether its bringing a bunch of adults in for a company lunch. Or bringing our baby and now 8 year old in. The burgers are fantastic. The menu's not overwhelming. With just the right amount of newness every month. Their seasonal stuff is always worth a look. (Get the thanksgiving burger!). They've got a fun drink menu too. And don't forget a shake. My only qualms have been: I miss DMK at Navy Pier. That was a fantastic gem over there too. :) And their Uber Eats menu could get some tweaks. For example, their Strawberry Shake has the picture of the seasonal S'mores shake and its description. I rolled the dice and ordered one with a special note of "please let this be the Smores shake". No. Got a Strawberry. Oh well. It was still delicious. And not a problem I'd knock any points from. read more

DMK is a great local burger spot. Burgers are seasoned well and taste great. Sure, slightly spendy and fries are extra, but the fries are worth it. Obvi eating there is the freshest, take away is fine if you can collect it. Using a delivery service is hit or miss and sometimes it doesn't travel well if it's not picked up right away. read more

We were pleasantly surprised when we went to the new combo with the fish restaurant nearby. We all had fish options - Salmon Tartare, Cod sandwich, power bowl combo with grilled shrimp and a shrimp sandwich that was fashioned after a lobster roll. Sandwiches came with tater tots/crispy potatoes that were crunchy! The fish was well cooked and tasty - the power bowl seemed salty but in the end was super flavorful and didn't need a dressing. Not sure why the actual fish restaurant isn't open but I'd eat there! Kitchen was backed up and we weren't there to drink so that was the only down side and we were there early so wondering what happens when it gets hopping - plan for it!! Chicago has enough burger spots that are fine - a well thought out concept for fish is welcome! read more

With a hankering for a lobster roll, I was on my way to Fish Bar, but decided that I should have a burger instead. So, I wound up at DMK Burger Bar. I arrived early so that I could have a pick of seats without being crowded. After a scan of the menu, I had a cocktail that had mezcal in it. Compliments to the bartender. The burger with mushrooms, cheese, grilled onions, and housemade barbecue sauce was awesome. Some restaurants understand that a burger does not have to be 6 inches tall to be good and DMK certainly gets it correct. And there is nothing like a plate of fries topped with parmesan cheese and served with parmesan truffle dipping sauce: the best. With an espresso shake on the side, it was all good. Gourmet burgers are all the rage in Chicago, and I suppose elsewhere. It may be that I didn't order a burger that the cooks heap high with toppings galore and that was fine because I could taste the flavour of the burger, not toppings and condiments. Big ups for making me a fan. read more

Was touring Chicago with hubby & came to have lunch here after Navy Pier based on recommendations. Now the food is tasty, but def not worth $14-$16 just for a burger. They seem to be your average 'trendy, hip' place. The combination of sauce & toppings they put on their specialty burgers & fries (extra/seperate charge) is definitely different and worth an experience, but be prepared for only 1 server, low lit dining area and difficult parking (street parking only and permit required from 6pm to 6am). Our bison burgers were tasty and not greasy at all. However, that is to be expected with bison meat as opposed to ground beef. Our fries were cooked well and not too crispy nor soggy. The wing appetizers we ordered were very small. Like, 2 bites max small. Was expecting more meat for the price. Again, worth the experience to try something different, but frustrating when you need to find parking or trying to read the menu. read more

Three of us went here on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. The restaurant had a relaxed vibe and had an extensive bar area. We ordered the Parmesan truffle fries for the table - absolutely amazing! I highly recommend these for anyone going here. My friend and I split the #5 bison burger and another friend ordered the French dip. The bison burger was great, I was weary of the blueberry BBQ sauce but it was a perfect pairing with the bison and goat cheese. My friend also ordered a chocolate shake but it was VERY sweet and tasted like grainy Hershey's chocolate syrup. Might be good for some, but none of us at the table were impressed. I give 4 stars partially because of the shake and partially because of our server. She wasn't very attentive (our waters were empty half way through our meal and they were never refilled) and seemed to be giving attitude whenever we asked for anything. I would give 3.5 stars if it were possible but went with 4 instead of three because all the other employees were more than helpful. I'll definitely go again, I just hope I don't have the same server. read more

I've been here twice and I have to say it's pretty average. The service is hit or miss- the most recent time I went, our server was hard to track down and I had to flag someone else down for small things like water refills. The burgers are on the saltier side but the fries were under seasoned. Also tried their chicken wings- think they brought the wrong flavor out but I didn't notice until half way. They have a vast brewery selection so it might be better for that but there are definitely better burger spots in the area. read more
