RUNNNNN here. I don't know how they don't have higher reviews honestly. I've been here twice and both times were such a delight. The burger is perfection, seriously. The bread, meat, cheese, fresh veggies, and sauce are to die for. I always add lettuce and tomato to my burger as well. The truffle cheese sauce - OMG. It's worth the extra cost!!! The fries are surprisingly noticeably good as well. I love the outdoor concept, I'm not sure if it'll be open in the winter because of their layout and restaurant design, but I hope they somehow find a way lol. The employees are super nice, the food is superb, and the place itself is vibey as well with an old school feel I can't describe. Exciting new patio option in Logan Square, small chaval's latest space, took over an old 1950s looking soda shop, they kept the signage, respect, that's nice. Admittedly never been to any Chaval, not my typical stop. Very cute ambiance in a rapidly developing strip of heavy hitters. When in the area also check out Bungalow by Middle Brow or the Spice Room, Scofflaw, Outside Voices, Best Intentions, I could keep going. This one is likely to put the heat on local favorites like moonlighter. I did not *love* my food -- i did get the veggie burger, but hear me out, if you've never ordered from Plant B, believe me, the bar has been raised!! My partner did like his chicken tendies though, and cookies and cream shake was very nice. I do think the main draw is the upscale casual patio vibe though. The staff is pretty slow. Think they are still figuring out the system. But the "Concrete" that we got, a thicker version of a milkshake with chunks of ingredients in it, was delicious. It was a huge portion, but also $9.50 all in. They charge a 3.25% surcharge to cover credit card fees. I hate that. They did do a nice job fixing it up. On a burger crawl, my date and I ordered the double cheese burger and fully dressed and a 4 piece of their Famous Fries Chicken. Let's start with the burger, the party was overcooked. We also weren't asked how we wanted it prepared, and while that's fine, i expectation juicy flavorful burger, unfortunately, it didn't meet or expectation. In the otherhand, the chicken tenders were Delicious!!!!! You'll have an option of 4 sauces Sweet Baby Ray Buffalo or barbecue, ranch, and garlic Aioli. Its Small Cheval, you know the drill. This location is pretty well put together and dedicated the entire parking lot to seating, with a nicely appointed fence along the property line. With fall approaching, half the patio was enclosed, and the heating lamps are very high powered. In fact, on a balmy afternoon the heaters work too well to sit indoors, so we went to the outdoor half. The burgers were on point and the fries were perfectly cooked. They have Mexican Coke, too, which is a nice touch. I'm still bitter that they discontinued the Old Fashioned at all stores, so this provided some comfort. We were too full to try cones or concretes. We'll try again next summer. Sadly, there were not more options, like sundaes, from the Tasty Freeze days. read more

Was really excited to try this place but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. The pros were that the patio is beautiful, the beer was tasty, and the fries with the garlic aioli were DELICIOUS! However, my burger was SO cold it was impossible to not notice the second I picked it up. I couldn't even tell you if it was a good burger or not because it was so cold i tried to take a few bites and then just tossed it out. Overall i would maybe try it again to see if it was just an off night, but can't recommend it at this time. read more

I loved Small Cheval when I first visited its Wicker Park location some time back. I was excited when it opened close to my daughter's home in Logan Square. We visited this new location in Logan when my other two kids came into town and had a good catch up over tasty burgers and boozy shakes. The menu is simple and well executed -- burgers, fries, fried chicken with a plant based burger option -- boozy shakes hand spun to order, beers, wines, cocktails and, if you have room, an array of ice cream options for dessert thanks for this place's former incarnation as The Freeze ice cream stand. You order at the window and get called up when your stuff is ready. I've been lucky to get "extra" boozy shakes each time I've been. The burgers come with dijonnaise, onions and pickles. Note, the signature double burger is the primary option -- if you want a single burger, you'll need to specify that. Fun vibes and yummy food. read more

Had my first Concrete ever tonight and it was DELICIOUS! 5 Star abuela approved. The staff was incredibly friendly, especially Eva, who was just as stoked as I was when he found out we would be having our first Concretes with them. He suggested the Triple Chocolate Cake Concrete and man was that thing delicious. The patio is charming and clean, and the ambiance makes for a great first date spot or a family outting. Honestly, I think it's overhyped. We ordered 1 double cheese burger with bacon and lettuce, 1 single cheeseburger with no additional toppings, 4pc chicken tender with Buffalo sauce and ranch, 1 golden fry, and 1 kids gold brick dipped cone. Total: $56.26 - I was not impressed with the burger at all. I ordered the single cheeseburger and it was very thin, lacked flavor, and the brioche bread was really thick. The bread to patty ratio was off. - Our fries were old and I had to ask for new ones. The new fries were hot but I do not like the texture of their fries. They tasted air fried instead of deep fried. If you've ever had an air fried French fry then you know that it's not a crispy texture. - My partner ordered the double cheese burger with bacon and they loved it. Next time I will get the double cheeseburger. - The chicken tenders were seasoned really well and the breading wasn't thick at all. - The "Goldbrick" dipped cone was delicious and I will definitely order again. I am so sad to post this review. I have loved Small Cheval for years but the burger has gone way downhill. The bun is ridiculously large and no one wants that much bread. The burger was incredibly tiny lost in the oversized bun. There was one tiny dollop of garlic mayo?? What happened to the chopped dijonaise? Why the change? We have lived in the neighborhood for over 20 years and have been anxiously awaiting what was going to go into the much missed Tasty Freeez so -- no surprise -- we were at Small Cheval on opening day. It retains the design flavor of a 60s burger joint (they even kept the sign) -- super cute. We both ordered cheeseburgers -- mine with bacon -- and an order of french fries to share -- along with chocolate shakes. Though the picnic table vibe in the adjacent, covered courtyard is cute and very friendly, we opted to take everything home. Everything was delicious and we've been back several times. Three quibbles: I love the variety of shake flavors but would love even more options (cherry, please!). Second, no malts? What?! Third: the prices are too high and, sadly, that's kept us from making this a more regular experience. All in all, a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. P.S. We stopped by the other day, returning after my husband had to have a small, scheduled medical procedure at the hospital. All he wanted afterwards was a Pumpkin Spice milkshake and guess who is featuring them all October? But it was only Noon and they weren't open until 3. The manager -- who was standing near the order window -- forever won our loyalty when he quickly made one for my husband who gave me ONE (just one) sip. It was fantastic. This place is ok... we ordered a burger, fries, concrete drink, and a pink lemonade vodka drink. And the cashier/server filled the cup up with ice to the top. She added the pink lemonade vodka and the manager standing next to her told her to fill it up to a certain point and to add even more ice! So, DO NOT waste your money on drinks. Food was ok. Spend a little more by going to the other burger place right next door. Their food is better and worth it. Patio is nice. read more

I paid like 32$ for a burger, 2 orders of fries a shake and Coke Zero, 1.the lady with the nice nails hands me a shake but no meal,, I look at her and she says nothing, I then respond, "isn't there more, like burger and fries, she looks at the order ticket then hands it to me, I then step back, no Coke Zero, I wait for her to take care of the other guest just to be polite and asked for the missing piece of my order. Horrible service gets a one star! No matter how good the food is. We ordered pick up and always check to make sure our order is correct: we were missing an order of fries, brought it to their attention and the attitude that was given to my husband was despicable when they got the order wrong not us.
