There are not a lot of Yelpers in Vicksburg but Rusty's had some great reviews so we decide to try it. Nice location near the river and plenty of street parking. We were seated quickly after our full party arrived. There is nothing fancy about this place but clean and simple. When you walk in you see the desserts in the cooler in the front and they all look delicious and homemade. We saw some dinner rolls being brought to the table but we were not offered any so we asked and they are free. So make sure to ask. They are yummy little yeast rolls with some sweet (maybe honey) butter. I tried a Bahama mama that was tasty and we liked the fried calamari (7/10). This place is a mostly seafood restaurant with a few good options if you don't or can't eat seafood. We had two in our party that does not eat seafood and they enjoyed the blacked chicken. The mozzarella sticks were also tasty. The start of the dinner was the Redfish with the craw fish cream sauce. DE-licious!! I enjoyed the seafood pasta. It's a lemon butter sauce not creamy but I liked it! It came with a side so I tried a cup of gumbo for $3 up-charge. It was worth it. Very good gumbo with sausage, shrimp, scallops, and an oyster! They were super friendly, very welcoming. The place is, essentially, a pub or sportsbar feel. We were hungry, but not starving and wanted to order light, but were excited by the new (to us) items on the menu...we're from the Pacific Northwest so the type of seafood they have here at Rusty's is not the usual. We got the fried green tomato appetizer, then the wedge salad and shrimp and grits. So- one app, a salad and one entree. The portions were HUGE. Like, way too much for us. We loved the sweet tea. The green tomatoes were great. Lump crab and hollandaise...tasty, if maybe a little over-sauced. The wedge salad was drowning in dressing. It tasted great, but way too much. Shrimp and grits: delicious, but we ended up taking most of it to-go because we were so full from everything else. The shrimp and grits also came with onion rings- which went straight into the doggie bag. Just so much food. I appreciate that they're trying to make sure that we're well fed, I really do...but damn. After 7 years we happened to be back in the area. We remembered eating here but couldn't remember…read morethe name. After some research and some help from our hotel we were able to verify this was the right place. As we remembered the service was great. We felt really comfortable as if we came there every week. All of the staff were welcoming and helpful. The original owner passed away based on a memorial in the menu. But it seemed like everything he built remained the same. My original steak sandwich wasn't on the menu this time so I got the "Friday Steak Special ". This was a hand-cut steak that was 13-14 oz steak and was very tender and had good flavor. It was much more fatty than I expected but I like a bit of gristle. This place is a diamond in the rough and they embrace the "hole in the wall" feel since it's even on their t-shirts.
