We enjoyed visiting Walnut Hills. The southern food was delectable. My Husband enjoyed the shrimp And grits and I devoured the fried chicken, sweet potato casserole. Our kids enjoyed the fried shrimp and macaroni and cheese and the fried catfish and sweet potato casserole as well. We shared a large slice of the strawberry cake. It was also neat being in a Civil War era home!

What a great experience. We stopped while traveling and it was the highlight of our drive! Everything was amazing, the fried chicken was GREAT! The okra was my favorite side, followed closely by the mashed potatoes. For dessert we had the turtle pecan cake and it was heavenly! Very very sweet though! The service was excellent and the fact that it's in a home from 1880 made the experience all the better!

Housed in a historical 1880 home, this restaurant is known for its Southern plantation cuisine, family-style fried chicken and award-winning desserts. Walnut Hills is also listed in 1000 places to see you before you die, here we are! When we walked in, we walked past the desserts and they were mouth watering. We shared the crabcake appetizer with Mississippi comeback sauce. We shared the Walnut Hills fried chicken with award winning with mashed potatoes. Portions were very generous, prices, reasonable, and our waitress was faster than lightning. I'm glad we shared because I wanted to save room for dessert. The most difficult part was choosing a dessert to share. The pecan praline pie sounds obscene, but the bakery in the back was amazing

We were told we had to check this place out, and while we were out walking the city, we stumbled upon it, and boy, are we glad we did!! We were told about their fried chicken, and that's what we got, it did not disappoint!! We started out with some fried green tomatoes, and they were absolutely perfect!! We had to have ours with ranch, as I'm allergic to shellfish, and it normally comes with a crab sauce, but they were delicious!! They gave us the perfect small peach cobbler to finish our meals, and it was one of the very best cobblers we've ever had. Our serve was so sweet, and made sure our glasses of some of the best sweet tea were never empty.. The place was packed, but comfortable and clean. Walnut Hills is a staple of Vicksburg, and I know where I'm asking to eat again, when we come back!!

This place never disappoints! Amazing food and people, the desserts are to die for. Cream of coconut pie is a must.

Atmosphere was quaint and had a at home vibe. Our server, unfortunately I forget his name, because he was so friendly and attentive. Last but not least the food was amazing, also this was our first visit and they did not disappoint.. I had the Shrimp & Grits, ( seasoned to perfection) & I added a baked sweet potato was sweet & delicious. My friend had the Salmon & Grits & baked Sweet Potato as well, it was delicious as well, we definitely sampled each dish.. We've made plans to visit @ least once a month because we live about an hour away. Thanks for the warm & welcome experience.

I always have to wait a minute before posting reviews for restaurants as special as Walnut Hills in charming and historic Vicksburg, Mississippi. I have to think carefully about saying everything that I want to say about such an extraordinary place. These are the times that I realize what my Yelp reviews mean to me. They aren't just reviews for me. They are a travelogue of experiences that I enjoy looking back on from time to time. Walnut Hills is one of those experiences. We did not make reservations but we arrived at about 10:15 (they open at 11:00) on a Sunday just knowing that Sunday lunch is always a big deal and that there would be a big crowd. Well, when we arrived there was ample room in the parking lot and we parked behind the old house. When we stepped up onto the porch there was a sweet little family of three waiting in rocking chairs and chatting by the front door. Of course they beat us to the line. We spoke and they told us they have a standing reservation every Sunday for lunch. What a treat! I wish I had a place like this nearby to eat every Sunday! Well, quite a line developed and everyone was friendly and polite. Of course, there were many regulars in line and we just had to ask everyone what they order. When the doors opened at 11:00 we walked in and to our surprise, a table was already set with iced teas for the sweet family we met at the front door. Man, they know how to treat their regulars! I got the sense that many of the folks here were regulars. That is always a good sign. We managed to find a small two top near the back with a nice view of the charming bar, other diners and the impressive rapid pace of the servers. The service is impeccable and those servers must be "getting their steps in" is all I can say. They move so efficiently throughout the restaurant and waste no time taking your orders and moving through the swinging doors to get those orders in. We were sitting near the doors to the kitchen and enjoyed hearing the guy in the kitchen yelling out the different orders, "Chicken Dark! Spinach and Onions! Cornbread Dressing!" What an exciting environment. First, we were served a bit of bread with rolls and cornbread with butter that was so delicious and I was so proud that the cornbread was savory and not sweet. So, next we had the salad course and I ordered the tomato aspic and my husband ordered the cole slaw that appeared to include mustard (delish!) Yes, I ordered tomato aspic and I know it makes you think of what a southern grandma used to make in the 1950s. It was soooooo creamy and delicious with the most wonderful texture. I guess I need to figure out how to duplicate because I am thinking summertime needs that dish! We ordered dark and white meat fried chicken, black eye peas, mustard greens, cornbread dressing and spinach and onions. We ordered the lemon square and apple cobbler as desserts. Every little thing we ate was just what you would expect at a southern grandma's house. It was all very good and seasoned perfectly. I just love their fried chicken. It was the stuff a foodie's dreams are made of. I enjoyed the hunting theme of the restaurant and thought the atmosphere was perfect. I hope I get the opportunity to try this special place again. It was truly unforgettable.

Excellent food. Classic southern style. Husband got the blackened catfish and I had the fried chicken. ( best ever). They have a wide variety of home made pies and cakes. Stop in and give them a try - you will not be disappointed. Service is always great!!!! We really can't say enough of great things about the restaurant and staff. Please give them a try - you will want to come back!

We stopped in here after spending the day in Vicksburg and it was delicious! Fired chicken & Fried catfish was perfect! The rice and gravy was not my favorite, it was a little bland but everything else was perfect! Our waiter was super on top of things and made our experience even better! Would definitely make a stop if your in the area

We ate here based on the reviews.. and I'm sorry we did... we ordered fried chicken, rice and gravy, corn bread dressing, crab cakes and shrimp. My opinion is that the food is bland beyond belief. The texture of the chicken was not as I expected from a professional restaurant. The crust was crispy, but the meat was hard and dry and took great effort to chew. Every thing else taste like it was heat and serve out of a can. No spice, no flavorings.... nothing. We were highly disappointed.

Food was really good and excellent service. I will go back again. All the food and drinks came out in a timely manner.

There are not a lot of Yelpers in Vicksburg but Rusty's had some great reviews so we decide to try it. Nice location near the river and plenty of street parking. When you walk in you see the desserts in the cooler in the front and they all look delicious and homemade. We saw some dinner rolls being brought to the table but we were not offered any so we asked and they are free. So make sure to ask. They are yummy little yeast rolls with some sweet (maybe honey) butter. I tried a Bahama mama that was tasty and we liked the fried calamari (7/10). This place is a mostly seafood restaurant with a few good options if you don't or can't eat seafood. We had two in our party that does not eat seafood and they enjoyed the blacked chicken. The mozzarella sticks were also tasty. The start of the dinner was the Redfish with the craw fish cream sauce. DE-licious!! I enjoyed the seafood pasta. It's a lemon butter sauce not creamy but I liked it! It came with a side so I tried a cup of gumbo for $3 up-charge. It was worth it. Very good gumbo with sausage, shrimp, scallops, and an oyster! Looking forward to going back!
