We've been traveling to Vicksburg to see watch our son play football for Alcorn State and we've hit the same restaurants and we were ready for something new. There are not a lot of Yelpers in Vicksburg but Rusty's had some great reviews so we decide to try it. Nice location near the river and plenty of street parking. We were seated quickly after our full party arrived. There is nothing fancy about this place but clean and simple. When you walk in you see the desserts in the cooler in the front and they all look delicious and homemade. We saw some dinner rolls being brought to the table but we were not offered any so we asked and they are free. So make sure to ask. They are yummy little yeast rolls with some sweet (maybe honey) butter. I tried a Bahama mama that was tasty and we liked the fried calamari (7/10). This place is a mostly seafood restaurant with a few good options if you don't or can't eat seafood. We had two in our party that does not eat seafood and they enjoyed the blacked chicken. The mozzarella sticks were also tasty. The start of the dinner was the Redfish with the craw fish cream sauce. DE-licious!! I enjoyed the seafood pasta. It's a lemon butter sauce not creamy but I liked it! It came with a side so I tried a cup of gumbo for $3 up-charge. It was worth it. Very good gumbo with sausage, shrimp, scallops, and an oyster! Wow, liked Rusty's so much after our first meal We returned the second day of our 2 day trip to Vicksburg and ate there again. The fried green tomatoes with the crab sauce were fantastic as was the gumbo, fried catfish and blackened chicken. Save a little room for the bread pudding with the Makers Mark sauce, the best bp I've ever had and the largest. Better plan on sharing it. Despite it being busy our server was friendly and attentive. I was in town visiting my family when my mom asked if I wanted to try Rusty's. Glad I said yes!! I have never had fried green tomatoes as good as these!!!! From what I was told by my awesome server, Jessica, people come from near and far to try them! Upon my arrival, we waited a few minutes before being seated because the place was fairly busy but as soon as we sat, we were waited on and service was pretty fast. I had the angel hair pasta with seafood and my mom had the fried seafood basket (I think that's what it's called). All of the food was so good!! Visited in a Wednesday, 2 tourists and a local. The restaurant is small with a case full of beautiful pies at the entry. We had a party of three for an early dinner. We ordered shrimp tacos, blackened chicken, fries, onion rings and baked potatoes. Some really great hush puppies were added with the shrimp tacos that came in an order of 3 filled with a good amount of shrimp in each. Flavor and temp were good on everything. Service was prompt and efficient even if the food took a little longer. At the food pick up station it looked like food that was ready sat for a bit before being picked up by the servers to deliver to the tables. Excellent service. Excellent prices. The food was very good. I ordered the NYE menu Tournedos with a wedge and baked potato. All excellent. My husband was tarted with a bowl fo gumbo which was delicious and then had the RedFish special which was also great. The dessert was standard cheesecake fare. The martinis were $8 so that's a plus. Stopped into this great spot near the Vicksburg Murals /Catfish Art Park walk. Friendly service, massive (non alcoholic) beverages. Always great when a restaurant can accommodate my vegan hubby. He had a large, freshly made garden salad, and an order of fried green tomatoes. Asked for the crayfish sauce on the side (for me to dip my platter of fried crab claws! YUM!!). My seafood pasta was loaded with fresh Gulf shrimp and bay scallops. Made for excellent leftovers! We arrived late (after 1:00) and they close at 2:00, but we never felt rushed. We're from Seattle and we know good seafood. We shared a captain's platter featuring shrimp, bay scallops, crab cake, grouper and oysters, with green salad and grilled asparagus as sides, and it was all delicious. There must have been three dozen bay scallops and heaps of everything else. Everything but the salad (which was fine) exceeded our expectations. Nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Every table was full, and there were several parties ahead of us. The hostess told us it would be about a 20-25 minute wait, which turned out to be spot-on. We grabbed a couple of beers, relaxed in the waiting area, and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. Once seated, we were greeted by our server, Jessica, who was absolutely fantastic--friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food. We started with the fried green tomatoes topped with hollandaise, crab meat, and cheese. They were phenomenal--hands down one of the best appetizers we've ever had. As we enjoyed our meal, I couldn't help but notice how incredibly well the staff worked together. The bus staff was lightning fast--tables were cleared within seconds of guests leaving, and reset within minutes. The kitchen crew, which Jessica told us has been together for 10-20 years, clearly knows their craft. Everything is homemade, consistent, and prepared with care. For our entrée, we shared a seafood pasta loaded with shrimp, scallops, and crab meat over angel hair pasta. It was absolutely to die for. From the hostesses to the bus staff to the seasoned kitchen crew, everyone here is operating at the top of their game. The teamwork, efficiency, and quality are unmatched. Ebony is amazing! My mom and I stopped off here during our cross country trip and we asked a local shop owner what we should eat, the first thing they said was "oh you gotta go to Rusty's" this place does not disappoint! The doors opened at 11 AM and at 10:59 3 families plus ourselves were waiting outside the door. The portions were great and the food was fantastic! When the menu says "fresh gulf oysters" that sounds like they're shucked there. Fresh. These seem like they came out of a can or a pre shucked container. It was just really bad. I also got the Imperial soft shell crab. Those were maybe a 4/10 but not worth the menu price of $31. We stopped in for our first night in Vicksburg and this place was packed. We had a modest 30 minute wait which was no biggie and well worth it. The biscuits with honey butter came out first and were so good we devoured them like raccoons. The house salad was also notable as it came with a pickled green bean and okra. Really tasty. The blackened chicken was my pick as it had been too long since I'd had it. So juicy and tender and packed with flavor. Paired with a baked sweet potato and I was happy. We ate there last night and much to our chagrin. The food was lousy. All the recommendations said that Rusty's was a good restaurant in Vicksburg, Mississippi however, I ordered the trio plate with oysters, shrimp, and scallops. The oysters were deep fried and unable to be eaten, the shrimp had such heavy breading on them that it was hard to taste the shrimp. Finally, the scallops were tiny and overly breaded. On top of all of that, they oil that the seafood was fried was old and imparted of taste of old oil. I personally would not recommend eating there. Management did take off the cost of my dinner. If you order a beer, they have draft Home brew that run a hefty price of nine dollars a glass. If I was told ahead this by the waiter staff, I would've ordered a bottle of beer. If you're interested in eating at Rusty's, take it with an understanding that their food is not always worth mentioning. read more

I wanted to like Rusty$: but we'll, I can't. At best they are ordinary. I ordered the fried green tomatoes with hollandaise and crab meat and the tomatoes were hard and chewy in the inside and greasy on the outside. There wasn't enough crab to count and for $15 was overpriced. The pasta salad had a good taste except for the massive amount of pimento in it. Finally, I took a piece of chocolate peanut butter pie to go and I was sorely disappointed. Most of the time it's layered but the peanut butter was the front half and the chocolate was the back half so you didn't get them in one but. Plus there was too much whipped topping. In fact, it should be meringue and not whipped topping. Rusty's was on my list to try while visiting Vicksburg and was recommended by someone recently, so I decided to check it out for dinner one night. I sat at the bar when visiting, and the bartender was very friendly and got my order quickly. During my visit, Rusty's got very busy and all tables and the bar were full. The bartender was great, keeping up with all the drinks and still checking in with everyone sitting at the bar! I ordered the coconut shrimp and had my choice of two sides with it from a few different options. The shrimp was good and I really enjoyed the sauce! If you're visiting Vicksburg and at one of the many museums downtown or at the military park, this is a great location close to everything and right across from the river. Inside, Rusty's is very casual and is a great spot to go with a group or a family.
