I highly recommend Gibbs steakhouse in Lena, MS. It's a long drive from everywhere but it's so worth it. The steaks, lamb, redfish and sides are out of this world. The meat is cooked on an open flame giving it incredible taste and texture. The service is friendly and fast. The building is "vintage" and a cat runs the place. Beer is on the honor system. This might be in the top 5 best meals I've had in my life. It is so unassuming when you walk up, and even inside it looks more like an old time store than a 5 star restaurant. It's BYO for whiskey and wine, but they have beers and seltzers for purchase. We started with the spinach dip, which was served with bagel chips and it was okay but I'd skip the appetizer for the main dishes (and desserts). I can't say enough about the ribeye - it was cooked to perfection, and the fat caps were so juicy my mouth is watering thinking about it. All the desserts were made by a relative/friend of the business and the buttermilk pie and bread pudding were favorites among my group. Lastly, service was great and attentive and my favorite part was the kitty that strolls around the dining area. The night combined all my favorite things: good food, wine, and CATS. First, you cannot beat the location and vibe of an old country store in a town long lost. It also serves up delicious steaks and fish too. Don't forget the sides and apps. H D Gibbes is not "faux country" a la Cracker Barrel, it's the real thing. It's an ancient general store, it may be drafty but it's comfortable and infinitely fascinating to see the details around the store. Live music completes the experience. It's a fun, high energy, casual place. The steaks are quality and are a reasonable value for the price. The real star here might be the lambchops, either as an appetizer or an entree. My wife went with the shrimp, it was fresh, well-seasoned, and a generous portion. I went with the Rib-eye. It came cooked perfectly to the medium I ordered. The rest of our big party were also happy with their dinners. The side orders were solid, and all was served promptly and hot. They take cash and checks only! On a regular basis, we drive 45 minutes and wait another 30 to snag a table on a Friday or Saturday night - it's THAT good! The steaks are excellent and the sides homemade. I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered but if there is a special "off the menu" side, order it - you won't be sorry! You'll be stuffed at the end of the meal but DO NOT MISS DESSERT! We always get ours packaged to go and eat it at home because we're too full right after dinner. Desserts are also homemade! As for the FOOD! 5 stars!!! Let me state my only complaint 1st! There serve you on paper plates! I diss like this because Chinet paper plates absorb everything!!! The steaks were good, the sides were great, but I was just over it all at the end. I broke 4 forks and 2 knives and cut through my plate, not because the food was tough or bad but because the plasticware and paper plates were so cheap. It did have a live band, and a nice rustic feel. The service was fair. I will say we all left with full a belly . I don't even like lamb, and I was about to steal them off her plate, that's how good they were. Wait times can be between half an hour to a full hour, depending on when you get there. It's worth it. Absolutely horrible experience. We did our part and made a reservation. We were informed if any person in our party was even 1 minute late we would have to sacrifice our reservation. We held up our end, each person in our party was there on time with time to spare. 30 minutes after our reservation time the owner told us that she would seat us when she can, but reservations still don't hold priority over walk ins. (That's the whole point of reservations) After waiting an hour and having multiple walk in parties sat after us we asked the owner what was going on she threw her hands up and said it wasn't her problem basically.
