I dont eat meat and wanted to get Ramen. However all of their ramen options have meat. I inquired about just getting extra veggies in exchange for no meat. I was told I could not do that and would have to pay for extra veggies if I didn't want meat, but instead got extra veggies. WHY in the hell would I do that!!?? Myself and a friend frequent this place on occasion AND the woman behind the counter knows this, she was willing to take out business and charge me for something as ridiculous as the few pieces of veggies they would have provided. I'm surprise to see customers there! That place is horrible! I had a terrible experience at Japanese Express in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The quality of the food was shockingly poor, especially considering the prices. The steak tasted like the cheapest cut they could possibly use, and even though they asked how I wanted it cooked, they still managed to overcook it. The shrimp was just as bad overcooked, rubbery, and tough. I specifically asked them to cook the vegetables until they were tender because I was giving the meal to my elderly father, who needs softer food. Their idea of "tender" was burning the vegetables to the point where they were barely edible. It was frustrating and honestly careless. When I called to get some kind of solution whether a replacement or a refund they offered absolutely nothing. No attempt to make it right, just a complete lack of customer service. They took my money and served me poor-quality food with no accountability. I will not be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for decent food or basic customer care. read more

The ramen is my favorite and they are always so kind. The building is clean and the food the always hot.

They always have good sushi. The udon noodles are awesome. Hibachi is always good there too. They give you more than enough food.

The restaurant isn't much to look at, but the food is decent. I think the wife and I were the only people actually sitting down in the joint; everyone else was getting their food to go. The sushi rolls are decent. The gyoza I had were good, and the dipping sauce is exactly like I remember it from the West Coast. Best of all, the prices are excellent. (During the covid-19 pandemic) I've ate here twice in the last few weeks. I'm giving 4 stars because of the amount of time I've had to wait and the cheese wontons having very little to zero cheese in most of them. However, my philly rolls have been spot on... of course I ate the cheese wontons even though they very little to zero cheese in them. When calling they say give about 20 minutes.., better give them about 30 or so minutes. read more

I'm not quite sure why the reviews are so negative. I enjoyed this restaurant. What really stuck out to me was how clean it was. The hibachi chef cooks your meal just behind the counter and did a great job. There are no servers at this restaurant. You go up to the counter and order from their menu. As an added bonus, after you order they will bring your food to you. The meals are served in Styrofoam, but I like this because you can take your food with you after you've had your fill (These are fairly large servings). The meat was tasty and cooked properly. The price was right. I will return. I would not rate this restaurant as two "$$", but simply one. Behind the dark glass of a dingy strip mall exterior, I found an affordable oasis where my wife and I relaxed and enjoyed dinner in comfort and style. Everything is packaged to go, even when you dine in, so it's easy to take your leftovers home. And it's not hard to have leftovers, because the portions are generous. The $1.99 miso soup filled a pint container, leaving me with little room for my tasty yakisoba (made with fried tofu, at my request, for the price of chicken). Next time I might get a soft drink, since it's rare enough to have a Pepsi fountain in the South. And my wife will skip the uninspired, all-iceberg-lettuce salad in favor of a miso soup. But since we were about to go grocery shopping at Kroger, right across the road, we're both glad to have enjoyed a great dinner before shopping. We'll certainly be back again, the next time we're in town; we live an hour away. read more

The staff was very kind and helpful, we got some sushi and two different types of ramen. All I have to say is do not order any of the ramen expecting it to be like some you would make at home or that you see on social media. Which is probably self explanatory and though I did a lot of research on the different types from the menu before deciding to go there with some friends the ramen looked nothing like it said it was supposed to and the smell just did not sit right with me, I didn't even want to try it. My fiancé chose a different flavor and it was the same issue. I'm not saying it was made wrong or shaming just personally would not order that specific meal there again. Our friends got some tempura chicken and they really enjoyed it! Plus our sushi was fantastic ! I'm still going to give the restaurant 4 stars overall because it was not their fault that we were uneducated on the matter and the rest of the food was great! Other than that little bit of advice I'd recommend this restaurant, it was very clean along with great portions and seemed relatively quick! read more

Admittedly, my 5-star review is based on a single dish, but then again, I have had that same dish probably a hundred times over the past year or so. The salmon hibachi is my go-to take home lunch either once or twice every week: the salmon is fresh and prepared well, the veggies fresh, and the fried rice delicious. A very generous serving, comes with salad, and under $10 including tax. The owner is quite kind and helpful, and the other individuals who work there are personable and efficient. Several suggestions so you won't be disappointed: This is in the corner of a strip center. It is rather dark inside. Very minimal décor. The salad is just a few chunks of iceberg, but the ginger dressing is actually quite good. Occasionally the cook goes a little overboard with the teriyaki sauce, so perhaps a good idea to ask for only a small amount of sauce (but it IS good). I agree with the other reviewer's comment about the pink sauce tasting like 1000 Island dressing. My recommendation there is just to skip the sauce. It is not needed at all. For the record, we have also gotten sushi rolls from Japanese Express and they have been excellent. All of the food is prepared after ordering, so I anticipate other options to be just as good. read more

Just think "to-go sushi" the whole time and you'll be fine. Food was absolutely good. But it's no where near other sushi/hibachi quality.

This is my family's favorite Japanese place in Vicksburg hands down. It's also the best Japanese take out we've tried in Mississippi. We always have leftovers & it's served in to go containers so it's easy to take with you. I've never tried anything here that I didn't like. The side salad is just lettuce but the dressing makes up for it. And their Pink Sauce is the best anywhere!! I could drink it! read more

Let me start by saying something positive. There were 2 very polite young ladies at the counter that were working feveverishly to help customers. Very southern, very sweet. That was THE ONLY positive thing I can say. I ordered three rolls and a salad. The salad was a small handful of lettuce and some very runny dressing. The "sushi" was room temperature (warm, raw seafood yum ). The rolls were about the diameter of my thumb and flavorless. I ate one of each and threw the rest in the trash. Cheap does not equal good. Just on my way through Mississippi when the craving hit. It's late, stopped based on the erroneous ratings. Now I'm pretty much just waiting for the good Lord to call me home after eating warm raw seafood. Please do not serve this "sushi" at my funeral. read more

I got the veggie stir fried noodles (yakisab). I guess I am use to different types of noodles with yakisoba. These were thin chow mein type of noodles. There were plenty of veggies. I was confused with the two side of sauces in my to go bag. I saw a customer ask for a huge side of the sauce so I guess it is popular? It tasted like thousand island to me. Personally, I would much rather have sriracha. I am from California and was pleasantly surprised that this is right around the corner from where I am staying. When we eat inside the restaurant, the food is pretty good. But whenever we call in our orders, they a) can't speak English well enough to understand what we're saying, and b) usually get it wrong even if they pretend to understand. They need to get someone American to answer the phone and take orders! Also, why can't I customize my own roll? DO NOT listen to ellamay at all. The food is amazing! I love their hibachi which is yes cooked and sauce that is only on the vegetables not on the actual rice. Yes everything is in Styrofoam because they give you such huge amounts that of course you can't eat it all. Also it is more of a take out place which it is why it is called japanese EXPRESS. The food is yummy and filling everyone is very kind and delighted to see you and greet you with a smile. I go there so much the lady remembers my order! The lady (one of the owners l suppose) was really rude and said we were getting too many refills when we paid for drinks. She even grabbed my drink and tossed it. Went at a slow time. They were busy making a large call in order. The young boy at the counter was more worried about what was on his phone than taking my order. I finally ordered and waited.......
