I got a Thanksgiving sandwich bette's box lunch with pasta salad and an order of tomato soup I wanted to try a bunch of things as I've never been here. The Sally Lunn roll was fabulous made the sandwich feel nostalgic like you were making a post Thanksgiving sandwich on a dinner roll. Heaven in a basket! I believe the Yukon potatoes make this potato salad divine! The chicken salad is fresh and the bread may be made here. Not sure but boy is it yummy. Never seen cup cakes like this. They literally are shaped like they were baked at the bottom of a cup. Irish cream was just the right way to start my March. Great small business. Stopped in today and was greeted by the homey smell of freshly baked bread. I wandered to the other section and discovered 8 loaves of marble rye. From the seating to the food, this place is super cute. The owner was nice and great at explaining the menu. It is easy to tell that they make everything on their own by hand. The up-cakes are delicious and so were the sides. My chicken wrap was good but it could have used a bit more pesto or cheese or something to make it a bit less dry. The club was big and very tasty. We ordered lunch from here for an all day meeting. It was really easy to place the order with the restaurant and all of the orders were correct, which is not always the case with other local places. I got the Roma Sandwich for my main which was a solid Italian sandwich on really good bread. The lemon basil pasta salad was a small portion, but good and makes sense for all the food you get with the boxed lunches. Each one also comes with a deviled egg, which was delicious! For the upcake, I went with the Pistachio and it was solid. The service was good and efficient communicating well and the delivery was timely. Wow. I've only ever been to this place once and it was to pick up some upcakes for my sister so I didn't have much to review, but today was my second time there and I'm blown away. I recently started working in Malvern and am surrounded by tons of places to eat, however I was craving something made with a little more love today. I got the boxed lunch with the Thanksgiving sandwich on the homemade roll. First, the homemade bread is incredible. It was so soft but held up to everything on the sandwich. My only concern was all of the pictures I've seen, the bread looks a bit more cooked through. Mine was pretty pale in color, but I honestly don't care. It seemed cooked through enough and tasted delicious. The stuffing on the sandwich really stood out in flavor and the turkey was moist and not dry at all. The lunch came with a deviled egg, an upcake of your choice, and a side of your choice. I got potato salad which was so delicious and had a lot of onion and flavor which I love. The deviled egg was also great and they somehow wrapped it without creating a mess which was impressive. I got a chocolate upcake on devils food and it was insanely flavorful. The cake was cooked so perfectly and was not in the least bit dry! Finally, I ordered this on Grubhub and it was by far the quickest order I've ever had. 30 min start to finish which is impressive for a delivery app. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone I can and I will probably start ordering this pretty religiously. Tried a place right across from the QVC outlet . I thought the name of the restaurant was great and I remembered Yelp community had given this place good reviews, so it stuck in my head. We saw people sitting down and eating little box lunches and all kinds of wonderful things so we decided to stop in and give it a try. My friend mentioned the shrimp Po boy sandwich and I certainly couldn't resist that, it's not a sandwich that you find around here very often unless you're at the seashore. I thought the price was great at only 9.99, The sandwich was generous on a toasted bun with five large and very tasty shrimp with lettuce tomato, remoulade, & sweet pickles. It was messy to eat but I sure did enjoy every morsel of it. My meal was served with a side of my choice and I chose the potato salad which was outstanding. You can tell everything is homemade. My eyes couldn't get past the shrimp Po boy on the menu board so I'm sorry to say I won't be much help in that regard for you if you're reading this review. I would recommend their little cupcakes - they looked really delicious although when I chose the vanilla Bean I was told it was already spoken for which I thought was odd because it was clearly sitting in the dessert case. Maybe someone had already ordered that with their lunch and it wasn't served yet or something like that. If you're in the area try Dixie Picnic! I can't believe in all the years I've been going to Dixie picnic. I've never left a review! Everything here is awesome and it's a scratch kitchen and you can also get catered lunches from them. The staff is super nice and the owner is one of my most favorite people in the world and highly recommend them. I think one of the best things they do is their version of a club sandwich. This place is an utter delight! I love everything about this unassuming yet delicious little luncheonette. The lovely lady at Dixie Picnic informed me that they are known for their boxed lunches so I took her device and scooped up the thanksgiving sandwich. I accompanied it with caramel applesauce and a devil's food upcake and it was the absolute perfect lunch. I am new to the concept of the upcake but it is a delicious little morsel, mine tasted quite like a tastykake cupcake. My friend got the shrimp po boy and tomato soup and she loved hers as well. This is a hidden delicious gem in the Giant shopping center on Lancaster Ave in Malvern -- but it's worth finding (over and over again)!!! I'm a transplant from Alabama, so my standards are high for "southern" food. Dixie Picnic did NOT disappoint! The biscuits are a traditional baking soda style (not really fluffy like McD's or CFA), with a good crust on them. I tried the Sausage Gravy over biscuits and was quite pleased. They use HOT sausage to make their gravy, so be prepared for spiciness, but it was delicious with a perfect consistency. I also ordered a scrambled egg on the side, and it was a perfect complement -- I added the egg in with my biscuit and gravy for full flavor. They serve La Colombe coffee and even had Dark Roast prepared fresh. I'm always happy to get dark roast as an option since it's pretty much the only way I drink coffee any more. My friend and I ate outside at a little patio table (on the sidewalk). The tables are at a bit of an angle but not so much that you can't enjoy your food. There's not really table service, per se, but our food was brought out to us when it was ready, and plates were cleared as soon as we were done. All of the staff were super friendly and helpful. Of course, we couldn't leave without getting some Upcakes to go. They're so enticing when you walk in, with many flavor combo options to choose from. I got a basic Yellow Cake with Chocolate icing for my husband, and chose Apple Spice Cake with Brown Butter icing for myself. Both delicious!!! Lo and behold and out of the blue today, my boss had to go out that way at lunch so it was my lucky day! Love this place! My parents and I went for Sunday brunch and weren't disappointed. We sat outside at one of their picnic tables, and they brought everything out to us. I chose the Southern Sticky Bun French Toast with a side of bacon and orange juice. Boy oh boy was it yummy! I highly recommend! The sticky buns were doughy and warm, the nuts and raisins added flavor and texture, the cinnamon butter was sweet, and the maple syrup was the perfect thing to drizzle on top! They garnished the plate with an orange slice, which I appreciated. The bacon was thick and perfectly cooked. My parents both got egg dishes, and my mom got an upcake to take home. Simple and delicious. --  Nutty Chicken Salad - on the interesting side of chicken salad. If you opt out on the Box Lunch, I would also recommend the Beer Battered Cod Po' Boy and the Fried Shrimp Po' Boy.  Both are fresh, delicious and worth every penny.   But Please listen to other reviews.  Please get the upcakes.  I've never got one I didn't like and they'd lift my spirit up instantly. I took 1 star off only because they close so early (3pm).  There are days I wish I could have a bowl of their homemade soup to melt my stress away after work. Dixie Picnic is in the Lincoln Court strip mall. I had no problem parking in the ample parking lot when I was there. On this visit, I had the BBQ pork sandwich with coleslaw. I think Dixie Picnic does try to add a little something to their food to give it a bit of zing. The coleslaw was not like ordinary coleslaw that you might find at a diner. The pulled pork was adequately spiced up too. That said, I also have to point out that you'll be paying upscale cafe prices for not that much food. If portions were a bit larger, it would be perfect. Service was pretty good. It's a small shop with the same people doing the cooking and working the cash register, so you may have to ring the bell for service sometimes. read more

Good things can happen even in the middle of a snowstorm, and I survived to write about it. The drive from Carlisle to Bucks was getting worse by the mile as snow and then sleet fell and made road conditions difficult. With the speed limit reduced to 45 MPH, and my head beginning to pound, it was time for a break. I was thinking comfort food, but when I drove into Malvern and my first choice (Pho) was closed on this Sunday, I found Dixie Picnic just around the corner, and seeing good Yelp reviews, I went in. It might not be my normal comfy meal, but it certainly was someone's, and I was about to find out who's. The space was bright and cheerful even on a dank dark afternoon. I arrived around 1:30, and they were closing at 2. No sweat. The owner welcomed me and told me to sit and relax. He handed me the menu after explaining the general lay of the land with breakfasts, sandwiches, BBQ, and Box Lunches. Everything done in house and from scratch. Home brewed Iced Tea, too. I went with the Georgia BBQ Pork Sandwich on a fresh roll. It came with a choice of a side dish - Pasta Pesto, thank you. While I waited, I listened to the oral history of this Southern family and the old photos on the walls took meaning and personality. Lunch arrived. A huge heaping load of heavily sauced shredded pork that required a fork to consume because to pick up the sandwich was to risk a major lap spill. It was that BIG. The first bite had me sucking in my breath as the deeply sweet and tangy mix attacked my tongue and olfactory center. WOW! This was going to required time and patience as I adjusted to its wonderful flavor. It had just the right amount of vinegar to provide a sharp retort to the molasses-like thick sweetness. It was soft and tender and an easy chew. I found myself enjoying it immensely. Meanwhile, the staff was beginning to close up, but I was assured that I could remain. Good thing, because the other hot items were the Upcakes sitting seductively in the front display. These were upside down cupcakes covered on all sides in thick creamy icing. The variety of flavors had their own menu and were seasonal. Here, while the cake base was homemade and excellent, the real story was unabashedly the multicolored toppings. I decided on the Blood Orange Icing on Devil's Food Cake. The icing was about a quarter inch think all around, save for the bottom (Actually, the top of this bottom's up creation). It was a soft cream, rather than a hard shell, and gave itself up freely. While sweet, it was not overly so, and settled nicely on the tongue for a lasting taste sensation. The chocolate cake was super moist and almost gooey. I loved it. Whoever thought this one up deserves a place in the Cupcake Hall of Fame. Thanks to everyone associated with Dixie Picnic over the generations for your love of cooking and taking care of people. Incredibly " spot on" catering service, which I have used too many times to count, as a way to thank offices and facilities who have provided year long support to my family.
