Food and service is just as good as we remember it! Before COVID, this was our absolute favorite place to go after RenFaire. But when the operating hours changed -- we'd couldn't make it back in time before the diner closed. But now that there's Yuletide, which ends earlier than RenFaire, we managed to convene here before closing! So glad we got a chance to come back. This was my first meal in 28 hours after a 9 hour delayed flight from LAX. I needed comfort after the flight nightmare I experienced. When my friend said they filmed the Blob there, say no more! I love things like that. They did have "Blob" menu items but I needed some good old comfort food. I asked the super hustling single worker in the diner between meatloaf or chicken croquette. She said the chicken croquette. Unfortunately they were out. I changed to fried chicken. OMG! The crunch could be heard outside. It was seriously crunchy without being over fried. The mashed potatoes were fresh and lumpy. I asked for extra gravy. Very peppery and flavorful. The salad seemed freshly made. I like the salad dressing is individually packaged. Seems fresher that way. Colleen was super attentive for being the only wait staff there. Very sweet and comforting after all the rude airline employees I encountered. The restaurant is a converted train car. Very retro. I love the look of it. It felt right to sit at the counter. It was pretty full when we walked in. Very chrome. Very retro. Being from NJ, my wife and I have seen a lot of diners. Stopping here at the Downingtown Diner though was a fun time! After all, who wouldn't love a diner where in 1958, they filmed the movie, "The Blob", with Steve McQueen. The diner is so retro, it just brings you back in time. I love the milkshake maker! Well not only was the place cool, but the food was delicious and the service super friendly. My blueberry pancakes were fantastic! From what I've read, this diner had been closed for a while and just reopened with new owners over the past couple of years. Good thing it did because this place is a classic! read more

Just had lunch at the diner. First of all it was so 50's cute and clean. You can tell it was recently updated. I had a grilled cheese with tomato and fries!! It was hot and toasted perfectly. First time visiting this diner. Full parking lot so it looked promising. We parked around back where there were more spaces. Typical small town diner with typical diner food menu. I had the chicken croquettes with mashed potatoes and the portion size was very generous. I was only able to finish 1/2 and took the other 1/2 home. I also got a side (I chose applesauce) and a side salad. The croquettes appear to be handmade as well. My grandmother got marinated chicken and mushrooms with rice and was happy with her order. My sister had an omelette with a side of fruit and bacon and the fruit cup looked very fresh. Our server was new so she was shadowed by a more experienced coworker. Basic diner food. Ordered delivery from here. The different containers were clearly marked. It's fine, though there's nothing that really sets the food here apart from other diners. Their DoorDash menu's a bit screwed up. For example, if you want a ginger ale, you need to select coke. read more

An absolute staple in Downingtown! Going to HS here it was the go-to after formals, sporting events, or just for a fun dinner out with friends. Since COVID they've changed the hours so it is no longer open 24/7, but I hope one day they bring it back. I personally love the waffle and chipped beef, and no other diner I know serves that! Small but very good food. Wednesday special was marinated chicken with mushrooms and rice pilaf. Chicken was moist and had good flavor, mushrooms and rice were great too. I had a side of tender carrots, and the salad was crispy, not soggy like you get in other restaurants. Service was wonderful. read more

We go here all the time for breakfast and used to for dinner before they changed their hours. This is the ONLY restaurant in the country that has actually gotten my food right every time, my food doesn't come out freezing cold, or last of the table, and it doesn't get forgotten. I can trust this place to ask for small simple modifications if needed. The waitstaff actually LISTEN and are so nice. The food is always SO good. The price is always more than reasonable. read more

This Diner is the best between Coatesville and Exton. The French Onion soup is amazing. You have to try it at least once. Now I'll be honest, the need to be consistent on the broth but I love it. The portions are great and you leave stuffed. The reviews about the staff is 50/50. Sometimes they are on point and there are times they are clueless and spaced. Not sure why but it is what it is. The food is really good. Things I don't like are the hot wings. It's breaded chicken and not what I like. I keep giving this diner a try and I'm disappointed every time. I've been there 4 times in the past year and something is wrong with my food every time. A couple times there was hair in my food, the chicken Caesar wrap was drenched in fake tasting dressing and wilted lettuce, and my Belgian waffle was covered in fruit jam to the point where it was soggy and not edible. The Downingtown Diner is a staple location from my childhood. As middle and high schoolers, we would hang out there and order milkshakes and fries. It's a great little spot in theory, but there are a few problems with the staff and food. The location itself is usually clean and fine, but the food is underwhelmingly average and a little overpriced for what you get. Staff are hit or miss. I've had experiences with super sweet servers and sometimes I've had ones that are incredibly rude, to the point where I got up to go to the restroom and she accused me of trying to dine and dash? Anyway, if you need diner food, it's really the only one in Downingtown so it'll probably stay open despite the crap service. It's walking distance from a lot of parks, restaurants, coffee shops, and homes, so it's a good area to stop for food on a stroll. read more
