Hubby, daughter, mother in law and myself came here for an early dinner. It was already busy inside but we got sat at the table outside. Our nice waitress got our drink orders. Fountain drinks are not refillable. They charge for a refill. Rip off! I got an iced water and fish and chips for my entree. The crinkle cut fries were good although my fish tasted like it was frozen. I only ate the fish inside and some of the crispy layer on the outside. The ketchup was of the thicker kind. It was okay but I like my regular ketchup. Service was good and the waitress checked up on us a few times. My food was just okay. I'm not much of a meat eater and I try to go healthy. Hubby wanted to eat here. Plenty of parking up front but it was getting full as we pulled up. read more

The 3 stars are because the food tastes great.. I deducted two stars (all my reviews start out at 5) because the phone order service is trash. I ordered ahead because I dint have time to wait on my lunch break. when I arrived I was greeted by a young hostess in a purple shirt who ask me how she could help. I told the hostess I was there to pick up my order. She replied "ok just go sit at the bar" they'll bring it out..... I decided not to react naturally. I went to the bar... I didn't see anyone tending the bar. I did see an older gentleman eating his food next to where I was sitting. After waiting patiently for ten minutes or so.... I went back to the hostess and told her "I'm just picking up a takeout order, they said it'd be fifteen minute, but that was longer than 15 minutes ago and I've been sitting at the bar for a while now'. She told me "just try waiting around there"... she shoooed me to the front of the bar, when it wouldn't have taken very much effort to get the bar tender's attention and tell them I was waiting on my food. My food was there, getting cold, behind the cashier's machine. Trash. The bartender was polite and cashed me out. Dixie owner/operator the food is good, please improve your to-go order service. Also, one of my smoker 2 side was missing. read more

Not the atmosphere I was expecting. I came in mid-day for a quick lunch and was greeted by drinking pun signs and a blow-horn that went off each time a customer ordered a mai tai. I was also greeted by a male mannequin when I entered the women's restroom that scared the living daylights out of me. This all seemed super tacky to me. Maybe if I were drinking at midnight, I would have appreciated it more. Food, on the other hand, was good. The pulled pork was delicious, moist, and served well-seasoned without BBQ sauce. The brisket had good flavor as well, but was a tiny bit tough on the non-edge pieces. Brussel sprouts and fried okra were both delicious! The bartender gave great service, recommendations, and small-talk. read more

Nice atmosphere and the drink service is pretty good. Our main complaint was with the food that was not BBQ. Fried pickles: rubber. Chicken tenders: absolutely tasteless. Crab salad: just bad. My wife really liked the BBQ pulled pork sandwich. And we also got a small order of snow crab and it was good--hard to mess that up. I would actually go back again for the atmosphere, but I would order BBQ. read more

I've been seeing Texas food on social media recently. I found this place on yelp. Never been here before. We came here for dinner during happy hour. It can get busy during peak hours. We came around 5:30pm and got seated right away. The place looked decent size with indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered the fried crab stuffed deviled eggs ($7 Happy Hour) and the pulled pork with cornbread casserole and mac cheese $15. There was complimentary popcorn. I thought the popcorn was too much butter so it was salty. But they do pop it fresh. The crab stuffed deviled eggs was new to me. It was literally how the dish is named. Fried and crispy on the outside. Not too salty. It was good. Pulled pork was tender and flavored well. They bring out 6 different BBQ sauce for the meat. We tried each one. Don't remember which one we liked. I really liked the cornbread casserole! It was sweet and savory in a cake form. Yum! Mac and cheese was good. It wasn't too thick. It was moist. Service was great. The place can be noisy during busy hours. Music can be a bit loud. I would come back for the food! read more

I went here for dinner Sunday around 6 pm. I ordered the fish and chips. I received my cod and wavy fries but the cod was definitely sitting in oil for a bit because you can tell and the ends were very crispy. As soon as the fries cooled off they were very hard. Crab legs! Crab legs! Crab legs! I don't even come here for the barbecue... For $26-$28, depending on the type of crab legs you order, you can get a pound and 2 sides. As for the sides, I definitely recommend the cornbread casserole and the popcorn grits. Mouthwatering! Also, if you're here to drink, they have the Screamin Mai Tai. It's enormous and very tasty! You can get a pretty good buzz started for just $11. Add $2 and you can add a shot of 151! Wow! They also have a number of other very tasty sounding drinks like the Black Forest Manhattan and the Cracker Jack Old Fashion. Theres something for everyone here. The most recent time I dined here was for Father's Day 2019. They said the wait was going to be an hour, but in truth was much faster than that. Way to go crew for being awesome even during the Father's Day craziness! read more

Review #10 for 2021. My friend and I were super hungry on Saturday evening, and we were craving something meaty, so we stopped by Dixie Grill for dinner. We were told there was a 45-minute wait, but we checked back after 25 min and were seated. Our server, Ashley, quickly visited our table to give us a menu and take our drink orders. The menu was paper, which I'm assuming is for sanitary reasons. I ordered a 2-choice plate with pulled pork, beef brisket, corn casserole, and cole slaw. Food was okay. Nothing to write home about. Not bad, but not great. The meats were slightly dry, so adding some sauce was helpful. There were six sauce choices, and I asked to try them all. Ashley brought out little cups of each. There was an orange colored sauce that was my favorite. Portion size was decent for $19, which is what I'd expect to pay for a BBQ plate. My friend ordered a cheeseburger with bacon, and he felt similarly that it wasn't bad, but nothing great. Ashley offered great service! It's difficult to work in customer service in this pandemic season, but she did well considering. Unfortunately, I would not choose to return to Dixie Grill as I would opt for somewhere else for BBQ instead. read more

Would give this place 3.5 stars. Food was good-ish. Service was excellent. That's why I'm giving a 4 star instead of 3. Had the catfish, trickles, calamari (which I highly recommend), and shrimp and grits. At first the grits had a sauce that was super sour but they remade it for me without the sauce. Super thankful for it. Loved that you got popcorn when seated. Great service. read more

I basically come here for the massive glass of sweet tea. I could just make it myself but I'd rather not see how many bags of sugar go in... The ambiance is your typical bar/grill restaurant- it's noisy, country music is blasting, and the patrons are loud. They have indoor and outdoor seating to choose from. We visited on a Saturday around 11am. Service: it left much to be desired. Our server wasn't particularly friendly and she wasn't very attentive. We were never offered refills and we had to flag her down to get condiments and again for the check. Food: my husband ordered the meatloaf grilled cheese (his fave) and I ordered a burger (medium). My burger was definitely well done, which is fine, I'll eat it as long as it's not mooing at me, but Every time I bit into it, there was a hard piece. Initially I thought there was something in the burger, but the meat was just hard. It wasn't juicy it wasn't flavorful just dry and hard. Disappointing. Their fries though -those things are delicious- perfectly fried for that potato and crisp ratio. It was a below average experience overall. Nothing to go out your way for. read more

It ain't like mama fixed it... first thing that came to my mind. Had the fried pickles to start, just awful they do the full spears that pull out of the breading. For my meal I went with catfish, with smoked Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes n gravy. Didn't finish did not take it home with me. The Mac n cheese looks like Kraft out of a box and I am wondering if they get the smoke flavor with liquid smoke or chemicals, it doesn't make sense. Beer was ice cold and server was attentive. I wanted to try the bar upstairs but am apprehensive now as I assume they are connected in some way. read more

Dixie grill is super easy to access. Located off the freeway on Kamehameha parking lot, there is a lot of parking if you are stopping in midafternoon as we were. I met up with my coworkers for a late lunch meeting and we appreciated the availability of patio dining and the cross breeze throughout. Our party of 6 was painful to the server, but they were super gracious and accommodating with our request for individual checks. Food came out hot and fast and was tasty. Popcorn is brought to the table as a starter. The frickles are now spears instead of chips (to be honest I prefer the chips) and they are flavorful. I also had a salad that was very filling with big pieces of bacon throughout. read more

I was moderately pleased to see that Dixie Grill is still busy on a weeknight, which means they have a dedicated following. I've always passed this Kam Highway joint on the way home and finally got around to stopping in for some Southern food. So let's get everything out there: it's a very divey bar restaurant. The front area reeks of spilt alcohol, so we requested a patio table. There's a very nice patio with benches adjacent to Kam Hwy, which we admired hopefully on the way to a dingy, secluded side patio on the east wall, next to the old car dealership office. Our view was a bleak privacy screened fence on one side, and a wall on the other. It was shockingly windy, and we were both shivering by the end of the meal. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about some cool things! Service was great, our server checked up on us often and open a table umbrella for us just in case it rained. She brought us a bowl of popcorn to monch on while we waited for food. The daily 3-7 happy hour includes some huge 32oz beer options for cheap, including PBR, Bud Light, and Michelob Ultra. I'm used to restaurants charging you 5 bucks for a green bottle, so it was nice to pay 6 for a HUGE mug that lasted the whole meal. They also have some intriguing cocktails for about 10 dollars, like the "Fall of the Porch Iced Tea" with soco, bourbon, amaretto, and ginger ale - sounds delicious, but I was chilling after the big ol mug of beer so I'll have to come back again. The gf opted for a Cajun burger (11.75) cause it's "safe," which had chedddar and avo on a cajun seasoned patty. I'll be honest here - it was a nice size, with fresh ingredients, but please. Salt. The. Beef. The outside was fine since it was coated in cajun spice, but the inside of the burger was definitely on the bland side. Medium rare was requested, and some areas looked almost rare. Finally, the avocado was pretty stingy, just a few tiny slices that didn't even cover the patty. I'd advise getting a burger elsewhere. I grabbed a smoked meat plate with pulled pork, beef brisket, mac & cheese, and brussels (19.95). This, on the other hand, is absolutely worth every bite. The pulled pork is flavorful, tender, and smoky. The brisket was a generous portion of fatty slices, perfectly seasoned and smoked. The mac and cheese was a bit on the mild side, but paired so well with some pulled pork on top. The brussels were gently caramelized and coated in a sweet chili sauce I think? I was surprised how well this worked! The plate also came with some pickled onions and single slice of white bread - I guess this is a southern thing? I don't think it elevated the meal at all, but it certainly doesn't detract either. We finished with a slice of key lime pie, which seemed pretty good to me. I'm no dessert connoisseur, but it had a nice crispy graham cracker crust and a denser key lime filling than you usually see. It was sweeter than tart, and had mint leaves mixed in for a unique flavor. Dixie Grill is a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs, but for me, the highs were high enough that I want to come back and see what else there is to experience. Keep truckin and I'll see y'all soon. read more

We came shortly after opening on a weekday for lunch. We had our small dog and were welcomed on the outdoor patio which provided plenty of shade. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. Their outdoor area is cute, and both kid and pet friendly- they have a little outdoor play area for children. The food was so good! We ordered two appetizers, the spicy wings and spicy shrimp, and then we shared a full rack of ribs with Mac salad and Brussels sprouts. Fam, I don't know what they did but Dixie Grill has successfully pulled a full 180 and put the pedal to the floor, headed in the right direction. We literally came here because, remembering my prior meal here, I wasn't sure the restaurant would survive COVID-19. I wanted to eat here one last time before we lost them like Like Like Drive Inn or something. Anyway, the place was packed, so much so that we were actually seated outside. Food preferences is as subjective and diverse as individuals' palates. After a morning at the Aloha Stadium swap meet, my son suggested we try this place. It was a very laid back and casual. Our waiter was very helpful with suggestions. I had the St. Louis 1/2 rack. There were six sauces that I could try. I attempted 2. BBQ bases are as varied as they come. The 2 sauces I tried were sweet and tangy based. What I did find that was unique and would make me come back again was the cornbread casserole, atmosphere and company. It was a sweet corn cake like concoction with cheese and bits of corn. I could've eaten that all day long! The collard greens that my son had selected was really good too! Had a friend who was craving southern cuisine and this restaurant showed up on my search engine as being the closest. I lived in the American southeast for over 8 years and traveled extensively in all of the southern states except for LA and AR. I'm not a big fan of this type regional cuisine however there are some southern dishes which are quite delectable as comfort food goes. Carolina pulled pork bbq and collard greens definitely jump ti the top of my list! In any case, we arrived and were seated promptly. Our orders were taken and it took awhile for the food to come out, Fully understood that made to order takes time to prepare. We were very impressed with the quality of the dishes. We noticed many people enjoying other regional plates and came away happy that there's a restaurant like this one that can provide a touch of home for those who miss good southern cooking. If you hail from the SE I'm sure you will enjoy this place, resplendent with many pieces of southern memorabilia mounted on the walls. Mahalo for reading my review. read more

"The Last Straw" I always found Dixie Grill to be an average-to-sometimes-above average BBQ joint, especially for someone like me who lived in Kansas City and central Texas. Still, it was worth the occasional visit to bring back memories of authentic barbecue. No longer. This last visit will be my last. I arrived just after 2:00 on a Thursday to order a pound of beef brisket ($27/lb) to go. I presented a gift card worth $25 given to me many years ago and was informed by the manager that the gift card program was discontinued long ago and all unused cards were zeroed out. However, he agreed to give me a $25 credit toward my purchase. What follows is a review of my $27 experience. Food - 1/5. Taste? Beefy but barely a hint of smoke. Texture? Tender and juicy, but the meat falls apart instead of maintaining its integrity. (How can smoked brisket be fall apart tender but only slightly smoky? Hmm, curious.) Appearance? Awful. Not a single slice in the box. All scraps. No smoke ring to be found. Service from staff - 5/5. Friendly, prompt, courteous, and responsive. Excellent service given to this takeout customer. Management - 2/5. Kudos to the manager for honoring my gift card. That is, until I reviewed the brisket he handed me. A box of semi-decent brisket slices or burnt ends would change this to a 4-5/5, but he gave me scraps. I thought about giving him a 1/5 but he did honor the gift card when he arguably didn't have to do so. In the end, however, I'm left believing the manager hedged his bets by honoring the gift card but giving me substandard food for it. That's a failure in my book. Overall - 2/5. In the end, people in the business of serving food should take pride in what they serve. Either Dixie Grill takes pride in this box of scraps (a poor reflection of the food quality) or it doesn't (a poor reflection on its leadership). Either way, the $27 of beef brisket Dixie Grill gave me is a poor reflection of the restaurant as a whole. If we weren't gripped by the COVID pandemic, I'd be less sympathetic and give this place one star. With that said, I cannot recommend this place to anyone anymore, and I will look elsewhere on island for barbecue going forward. read more

Dixie Grill - This is what one pound of beef brisket (minus a couple of bites) looks like. No slices. All scrap. - Southern Near Me - Aiea, Hawaii

I've driven by Dixie Grill in Aiea probably hundreds of times but for some reason never stopped in but that changed on a recent weekend. We had to stop nearby and were looking for lunch so we finally tried it out. A little after noon on a Saturday and the indoor tables were full, they had outdoor seating but it was pretty humid so we opted to take a seat at the bar. Food: Wife order the Carolina Killer Cobb and I went with the Beef Brisket with a side of brussel sprouts and coleslaw. Wife really liked the Cobb salad and was very impressed with the quality. My brisket was very tasty and you get 6 different bbq sauces to top it with. What was surprising was the brussel sprouts were probably the best I've ever had. I kid you not, try the brussel sprouts! Roasted, sweet, with crispy edges..yum! Decent selection of spirits and beer also make this a pretty good spot for happy hour! Service: Sitting at the bar was great..got to chat with the bartender and everything came out quickly. Everyone in the restaurant was very friendly and tables seemed to be turning over at a decent pace. Atmosphere: I'd classify it on the edge of being a dive bar but in a good way. Dive Bar/BBQ Joint/Crab Shack is probably the best way to describe it. Lots of parking outside makes this place very convenient if you are driving down Kam Hwy and are tired of the rail traffic! Value: Decent value for the portion sizes and quality. We didn't have any drinks during this weekend visit but the beer, cocktails and wine prices seem to be priced very nicely. Overall: Definitely coming back in the future to have more of their BBQ and this time some of their specialty cocktails! read more

This is my second time eating here and it doesn't really impress me too much. I do like how they bring us popcorn to eat before we order our food. I'm a huge popcorn lover so this makes me happy. They are known for the large and really sweet tea. As a Texan, their tea is on point! Makes me feel as if I were right back home. As for the food, the brisket was good but not amazing. I really didn't like the link sausage. Something about did not find it appetizing. The Mac and cheese was good, but didn't care for the seasoning on the corn. The catfish was yummy. My roommate said Id was flavorful and would recommend ordering it again. He wishes it had more spice to it. The burgers tasted average. I thought by having brisket on them it would me tastier. Overall, we came to try their southern cooking and really didn't meet my standards. Maybe I'll try something else on the menu. I love this place so hard. I say BBQ sauce is an Anna-disiac (aphrodisiac for me) and it never disappoints. The fried okra is the best I've had since my summers in the South. The food here tastes good, but the effort that they put into it seems half-hearted. For instance, the artichoke dip appetizer. It is served with a grilled hot dog bun that is split in half. Literally. Their cocktails such as the old fashioned seem to be pre-mixed, as the cocktail does not come with the traditional orange peel or maraschino cherry. And get this, if you order straight bourbon on the rocks they charge a fee for the ice! It's only a 50 cent surcharge per drink, but really? Pros: The brussel sprouts are some of the best that I've ever had. The smoked brisket was decent. They have $1 beers during their happy hour, which I believe is from 3-7. read more

When we got here around lunch time. There was plenty of parking and mask were required at all times. Besides eating. We sat near the split of the restaurant being outside in the patio area. I always hear bad reviews about this place. So I never really had the urge to go eat here. My friend wanted to go eat here. She wanted Cajun calamari but they were out of batter. I didn't know they give popcorn as a free little snack. That's nice. My friend had ordered the fried catfish along with her sides; mashed potato and Brussels sprouts. I ordered a two meat dish: pulled pork and andouille sausage along with my sides; coleslaw and beans. So we were eating and enjoying our food. Then all of a freaking sudden a little roach crawls up into my freaking tray! I froze and my friend went to get someone to help. Our waiter and the manager came rushing out. I explained how a roach crawled up into my dish and how it's in my tray somewhere! I'm terrified! Our waiter had taken my plate away as I saw the roach roaming around my food. The manager kept asking what we wanted instead and if she can offer anything else! She was super nice about things. She kept offering this and that. She took care of everything! Our waiter, he had cleared out table and we had moved over to a new table. He was super kind too. He was trying to lighten up the mood. Haha. Super sweet! They were really nice about everything! I just asked for my meats again: pulled pork and sausage along with a salad. Because the meats were really nice and juicy! I was just telling my friend how the bbq is way better than Dick's in kapolei before that freaking roach crawled up into my tray... So I don't know why people are saying this place is bad. Haha. I would definitely go back for the off the grill meats again!! Thank goodness y'all are down the street from me when I'm craving some good barbecue! read more
