First off the parking was horrible. We finally parked on the side which was not even a real spot and we hoped our car was still intact when we got out. We had a reservation but the table wasn't quite ready so we thought we would sit at the bar for a drink. We were asked to move by the bartender because those were apparently seats for people to have dinner. Rude!!! I felt like leaving at this point but it was my birthday so we stayed. Unfortunately. We were finally seated at a tiny table right next to 2 other tiny tables. They were so close together that we were all in each other's conversations! We ordered some super expensive wine to start. I ordered the filet. It was meh. The salmon was not good. We skipped dessert. The service was very good. Best part of the night. I would not come back here. "A place you'll remember" is quoted on the large signage as you drive into the lot of the renovated barn house. Walking into the space, the first things that will catch your eye are the warm decor, the open-style kitchen, and the large window occupying the front face of the barn. The ambiance is very pristine and modern yet still captures the soul the old farmhouse aesthetic. We had a reservation for brunch and got seated rather quickly. Service was fast and friendly! We ordered the matcha latte, regular latte, duck hash, and the burger. The matcha was great, and the latte was so-so (tasted a little bit burnt). The duck hash was so delicious and surprisingly comforting/homey. The taste of the confit duck melded well with the soft tender potatoes, mushrooms, runny poached egg, and crispy fresh herbs. I'm not one to particularly like carrots but the pickled cubes of orange had such a nice pleasant pop and crunch that gave great balance to the hash. The burger was excellent with its pillowy brioche bun, meaty patty, and melty vella jack cheese. It had great umami with its roasted tomatoes and onion marmalade. My wife, daughter and I decided to spend a Sunday afternoon in Ann Arbor (we live in Metro Detroit). Not sure where to go for a late lunch / early dinner (assuming we would walk around State Street) I checked Yelp for recommendations. The Dixboro Project came up as being only 15 minutes away in a quieter section of town. The pictures looked inviting, and we took a risk and headed over arriving at 4:00 as they transitioned to dinner. The restaurant was clean, service excellent and the food above par. While the menu is not overly extensive all of the dishes were well presented and prepared. We shared a mushroom pizza for a starter. My wife and daughter shared the trout, while I opted for the American Wagyu Burger (the fries were amazing). We also shared chilled Asparagus and Squash. The experience deserves more than five stars. The staff were very accommodating. We asked to change tables as initially we were seated under an air conditioning vent and they allowed us to move to a new table with a new server. The servers all seemed to work as one team which truly impressed me as it vastly improved the level of service. Plates were taken when needed, crumbs swept from the table and at no time did we feel abandoned. The wine list was extensive with something for everyone. TLDR : Food does not match the amazing ambience We start off by saying that we were very very excited to try this location out as we see all the positive reviews on yelp, as well as some videos on other social media platforms I will say that when you walk in the interior is jaw-dropping. I love the open spaces, it really reminds me of all the nice restaurants I used to go to while living in California and Los Angeles, Malibu, San Francisco. The service is spectacular, you're given a single server who is consistently running back-and-forth to your table and sharing that everything that you need is there. He was fantastic. I will definitely go back to see him because the way he described the menu made it sound something like a work of art. Onto the food... The food really does not live up to the hype. In my opinion, I believe the owners were really trying to go for a high-end dining experience, and I think that they are very close to doing so I will say this, though, the food did not have much taste, as Gordon Ramsay would say it was bland , and for that reason, I will not be returning. Another thing to know is with an experience like this my true opinion on it is, if you're going to have prices as high as they are for the amount of food that you do serve out with on the plates something has to change. It really set the bar for the rest of the meal. 10/10 Beet Salad (I'm sure the name was something else) was amazing. The little rice things on top looked a bit weird but tasted amazing. I was complimentary before. I was not effusive enough. Dixboro Project is a must if you are in the area. We have sat outside both times. On this occasion, we had the morel pizza, the fried chicken sandwich, and French fries (an accompaniment to the sandwich). All were excellent. They were outstanding. That is no exaggeration. The morel pizza was a white pizza, i.e., no red sauce, and I told the table next to us, whom we heard considering it, it was a great choice. Morels are seasonal. If you like mushrooms at all, they are what to order if you ever see them list on the menu. I was tempted by the BLT, with pork belly, especially since the server warned us the oven might be down. They got it fired up though. The morels were more subtle than I expected, which is fine, and the pizza was served with wooden stand at once sturdy in thickness and dainty in design. My wife, a less lenient judge than I am, praised the fried chicken sandwich. The French fries we split, and they were better than McDonald's, my benchmark, on the one hand crispy and on the other hand creamy, thick, handcut, hardy, and served with homemade mayonnaise. The bonus were the GF snacks. We bought a box. They have a Dixb-Oreo, which is not only gluten free but also diary free. They look great, and we can't wait to share them with family. The word is spreading. That other table, they also mentioned to the server they had heard about Dixboro Project. I was told by a classmate from University of Michigan I should try it. That is great, positive word of mouth helping a budding business grow as it deserves to. I won't mention the name of the place, but driving out there from downtown Ann Arbor, we passed an institution, someplace I have raved about for fine dining but more for graduations and wedding proposals and taking your grandparents, and my wife remarked she didn't need to go there again. I do not understand the hype of Dixboro Project, the food is unremarkable and the way they run their business is confusing! It feels as though Dixboro Project has gone through many different iterations and rebrands already, when it has only been open for a few years. It's also gone through a few different chefs, which is also confusing to hear about. They do a bunch of those exclusive, pretty expensive events and I heard rumors that they were really trying to get a Michelin star or at least the attention of Michelin. As someone who has dined at several different Michelin-starred restaurants, I can tell you that they are a long ways off from this. My friends and I made a reservation a month before we finally came here and our reservation had been for the tasting menu. As in, we specifically selected the option for the tasting menu when we made our reservation. So imagine our surprise when we show up, are seated, and given the menus and there is no tasting menu to be found anywhere. When we inquired with our waiter about it, they said that the tasting menu was not an option for the time being given that they were reconstructing and revamping it for the time being. ...??? Shouldn't this have been something communicated to all those who made reservations for the tasting menu well in advance of our reservation??? Some communication would've been nice to level set the expectations, but instead the rug was pulled out from under us when we came here and we were disappointed to know that we would be ordering off the a la carte menu. Additionally, this may seem like a small thing, but if you've ever been inside the Dixboro building, you can tell it's very beautifully designed and structured. Our table was also beautifully laid out, so tell me why I reached for my water glass to take a sip and noticed a very obvious lip stain on the rim. That really shattered the illusion of how upscale this space is because a very obviously dirty glass means either their dishwashers are not good enough or they skip over certain glassware if they don't think it has been used. Either option isn't great! As for the food specifically, everything we ordered was mid. For the table, we got the hamachi to start, the spring triangoli and tagliatelle as our entrees, and a merguez pizza and broccolini & sausage pizza as well. We ordered all of these dishes because they sounded like really delicious and unique combinations of ingredients that we had never really tried before! The result though? Disappointing, to say the least. All the portions were small, especially given the price of each dish. The hamachi was fresh and fine, thinly sliced so you don't get a ton of hamachi, but ok...we can rationalize it as it's a starter. The two pastas though? The triangoli and tagliatelle came in such small portions and the noodles were very obviously overcooked. The pizzas were the best part because they have a wood fired oven, but even with all the yummy ingredients on top, you get a small center portion where the toppings are and then the rest of the pizza is crust. Dixboro Project is not worth the price tag and it is exactly the kind of place that masquerades as upscale and doesn't have the upscale food or service (the lack of communication structure, transparency, etc. - NOT to be confused with the waiters who worked hard the day of to take our orders, change out my lip-stained cup, and serve our food) to back it up. Highly recommend that you avoid this spot. read more

This place is all vibes and no follow-through. It *looks* like the kind of spot that should deliver a great meal, but don't let the aesthetic fool you. I ordered the eggs Benedict and instantly regretted it. The ham was an inedible slab of fat, I probably could've found one bite without fat. I asked for it to be remade, and they brought back a new plate that had the smallest, most burnt piece of ham I had ever seen. It was obviously an "F-you" for sending it back, but this place should be above that considering its price and reputation. My friend tried to Dixboro breakfast and it was the smallest saddest looking thing I'd ever seen. For how much you pay, the portion sizes are a joke. We also tried the pizza because we were still hungry (shocker), and wow. Limp, soggy, and lifeless. No crunch, no structure, just floppy sadness. It was limper than a disappointing hookup after they've drank too much. I've had better texture from frozen pizza straight out of the microwave. For the price, this place should be a hit. I want to like Dixboro, but it's just missing something on the execution front considering the price point. I've been 3x now for both lunch and dinner and the food is just a bit too salty. The portions are small, but this is fine dining after all. The service has generally been good, but not great. For example, our waiter gave a really aggressive pour when pouring our bottle of wine and by the time he got to my glass, there was only 2 sips worth of wine left. I would've expected him to offer something (I.e. I can offer you another glass of wine) but he just made a awkward comment, until someone from my table offered to switch glasses with me. I feel like it's subtle things like these that take away from the experience that is "fine dining". As usual the ambiance at Dixboro is nice, but it can really get quite loud. read more

I won't indulge on their menu and service if not made to feel welcome. We last made reservations on July 20th (my birthday), my ex-husband needed to add his new lady friend to join us and a simple plus one was flatly turned down on the phone. I love coming to dixboro for brunch, usually brunch hours are more quieter and the ambiance tend to be more fitting to the space, as the noise level isn't too high. I do enjoy Dixboro's dinner menus but because of how loud it gets and the way sound circulates inside the space it gets very chaotic. The food is exceptional, Dixboro has to be the most visited restaurant in Ann Arbor for me. The service here is always lovely and could not have had a better experience. Never a time I leave dixboro without feeling happy! The mushroom pizza has perfect amount of sweetness and savoury flavours from cheese and rosemary. Paired with chilli oil is pizza dream. The rotating quiche is always my favourite the different textures and rich buttery flavours of the quiche with side salad is the perfect start to your weekend brunch. The hamburger has a really nice tomato sauce that feels very gourmet and premium in comparison to other burgers of similar level of restaurant. It makes the burger feel deliciously healthy as it doesn't have generic ketchup or flavours. read more

The good: the space is absolutely beautiful with lots of light and tall windows. The staff are very friendly, kind, and professional. The alcoholic beverage I had was delicious. We came for my husband's birthday, and they surprised us all with the champagne toast at the end of the night. That was such a sweet gesture. Someone in my party left her sunglasses and they called me immediately to let us know. I appreciate touches like that. Constructive criticism:There are some things in regard to the menu and service that could be improved: Service: our waiter warned us that there was a very large party coming in shortly and encouraged us to order fast so that our service would not be negatively impacted by this large group's arrival. I appreciate the waiter being concerned about our experience, but there should have been enough staff on hand especially considering that we had reservations and they had reservations that a large party should not affect our experience in any way. We were feeling pressured to make decisions about food more quickly simply because a large group was coming in after us. Also, because staff were so busy with that large party, I do feel our table was neglected. I made it all the way through my appetizer and 75% of my meal before the waiter came back to check on us. I had some complaints or concerns about the food that I had wanted to share, however by the point he checked on us, there was no point in bringing it up because the time to fix my food would have been a few minutes after our food arrived. I was also frustrated because my silverware was taken away while we were still eating. They took away the chili oil for my pizza when I wasn't done with it. I had to ask them to bring back the chili oil. The food: the oysters I receive were awful. The mignonette on the oysters was so overpowering that I could not taste the oyster itself. My main frustration however with the oysters were that they were still partially attached to the shell. They did not give me the appropriate silverware to take them out of the shell and I felt I shouldn't have to dig at my oysters with my fingers. The mushroom risotto dish lacked mushroom flavor. The other dish ordered was the scallops which had a nice char on them, and they were large and flavorful. However, the sauce that accompany the dish was so overwhelmingly salty that I would have liked to return my dish. However, I could not do that, because our waiter did not show up until we were about 75% done eating the meal . I truly feel if they can iron out these difficulties that I would be happy to try them again. Let me reiterate, the staff, and our waiter was amazing. However, there were not enough staff member scheduled this night for the amount of people at the other party, and this affected our evening. It was not our waiters faults. read more

My husband and I celebrated New Year's Eve with a splurge dinner at the Dixboro Project. Although we've stopped by the "Boro to Go" many times, this was our first visit to the restaurant side. It is beautiful inside the old barn structure. We sat in the area closet to the big, window wall and it had a magical, romantic atmosphere. Everyone we encountered from the host staff to the bar staff to servers were friendly and helpful. Our server, Matteo was knowledgeable, skilled and easy to talk to. I let him pick my dinner because I couldn't decide and I have to say, he nailed it! The Brown Buttered Seared Scallops were divine! My husband loved his Venison Casarecce as well. Our other courses included the crispy octopus and a mushroom pizza (with sausage added thanks to Matteo's inside tip). We saw several tableside preparations of Baked Alaska, which looked great, but we were just too full for dessert. This is truly a special occasion restaurant. It came in the smallest martini glass and was less than 1/3 full! I sent it back after questioning if it was missing the rest of the glass. The bartender took it off the bill only to have a different bartender add it back on because he thought it was a mistake I have eaten here before and ordered the $50 FLANK STEAK - yes you read that right- and was underwhelmed. The prices are high here, I will start with that, but the crispy octopus appetizer we had was pretty life changing. It's a must try! The regular cocktail menu is very mezcal, bourbon and tequila heavy when I prefer vodka and gin based drinks, but they had one rotating cocktail that appealed to me at least! We also really enjoyed the seared cod dish, that crab rice that was nestled beneath it was so yummy! The margarita pizza left much to be desired unfortunately though as it had been heavily over salted. However when I gave the server feedback without the expectation of having it taken off the bill we were pleasantly surprised to see it had been removed at the end of dinner, so the staff is well trained to make sure you thoroughly enjoy your dinner.
