I have heard that District Taco is the local version of Chipotle and Moe's within the DMV. This place is probably more similar to Moe's in terms of quality of food and variety (though slightly more expensive). I got myself a chicken bowl with a bunch of toppings! I left the establishment thinking it's good for the moment, but not something I would need to run back to. The service was pretty speedy. You can order at the self-directed kiosk or order with human or even inkind (which I did). My food came out 5 minutes after ordering. I also appreciated how clean and spacious the inside was. There's plenty of seating outside and inside. Overall, I wasn't wowed by this place and will probably not go back again, but glad I tried nonetheless. read more

I walked here for lunch. I wasn't too far from where I work. I wanted something different. I ordered the salad bowl with carne asada. I probably will never order that again. It was really rubbery and over cooked. It was not good compared to other carne asada bowls I've ordered before. I enjoy grabbing lunch from this district taco location. It's conveniently located in the golden triangle vicinity, slightly on the edge of DuPont. They offer a good variety of vegetarian vegan options on their menu but still full of flavor. The staff is quick and efficient. They also have kiosks you can use to place your own order in addition to ordering online/on their app. This location has decent countertop height seating for a quick drop in along with standard dining tables. I was a huge fan of District Taco when I lived in Northern Va eleven years ago. Imagine my joy at seeing a location open in DC when in town for business. We stopped in around 7:00 pm - slightly surprised to see so few customers and the two staff working busy cleaning kitchen equipment. Service was good, and very friendly, but the food was not. I suspect the chicken in my taco was from a can bought at Costco. The tacos were big, but I ate less than half of each as they were flavorless. The tortilla chips, which in my memories from 2014 had been home made, are now just a bag of chips from a retail shop. Simple right? Waited a good while for my food but as they were handing it to me, I noticed the receipt said someone's else name. They realized they mixed up orders and gave someone else my food. They apologized, made my burrito again but didn't offer me anything for the inconvenience and long wait. I finally tasted my burrito and talk about disappointment. It was so nasty. This is probably DC's go-to for Tex-Mex fast food - and in that category, there's not much competition other than maybe Taco Bell, if that even counts. Texans will recognize this menu as something similar to Taco Cabana, but the quality is better here. I slightly prefer the chicken asado over the grilled steak, but they both were good, and grilled over the fire if not already prepped. The food tastes fresh, the meats are flavorful enough, and even the tortillas don't taste old. Prices are reasonable, seating is plenty, and it's easy come, easy go. App for mobile ordering? Check. Dining rewards? Check. What more can you ask for from a fast food joint, really? They've pretty much hit all the marks. The only thing missing that Taco Cabana has and this place doesn't are the margaritas. Came in with a tour group. Order process was easy / but my corn tacos were so soggy I couldn't pick them up to eat. I had to use a fork. The churros they gave us were hard as rock & stake. First time having District Taco I must admit that the food is definitely on point and fresh. Placed my order on the computer kiosk stand. The limitless toppings that I saw definitely made a huge difference. The prices were reasonable. (Full disclaimer: As someone who came from LA, Washington D.C. can't really compare to LA or San Diego when Southern California has the best Mexican food hands down. So I'm somewhat seemingly overcritical when it comes to reviewing Mexican food). I digress. Here's my review anyway: I came here on a Thursday after work and it was okay. I wasn't overly thrilled or disappointed. It was meh. District Taco is a mini-chain to my knowledge and so, like many other chain restaurants (like Chipotle or Qdoba), it's average. The food is comparable to Qdoba, and the portions are fair. I ordered a Desnudo with Steak and it came out fairly quick. Because I didn't have high expectations, I wasn't really disappointed at the fact that the flavor was pretty bland and the steak was a bit dry. On the bright side, there's a small island bar where you can grab all your fixins--additional cilantro, salsas, lemon, etc. This location on M street was conveniently close to work so for convenience, I give it a 5/5. The inside is also kept pretty clean and the staff are friendly. Overall, I'm happy with the service, but would probably still choose Chipotle over District Taco. read more

I have definitely seen similar food and portions priced much higher. Portion: Portion sizes are reasonable-- not huge, but definitely not skipping. Order accuracy-- I feel that all of the food, even food ordered on apps or online, is made exactly as I requested. Take out- Take out options are available. I have ordered food here many times on uber eats, and it comes quickly. Vegetarian and vegan friendly options: Many leafy options here, as well as impossible (vegan friendly) mean substitutes! It's nice to be able to make a filling taco and know I am sticking to my diet. Convenience: This location is conveniently located, and is able to be reached on foot. This is a good quick lunch spot, near many offices and buildings. Parking might be a little tricky, but that says more about DC than this location Pictured: Pictured are three tacos-- I like the fact that each taco is relatively cheap and that you can customize each to have the specific fillings that you desire. I had carnitas, carne asada, and al pastor. I was not disappointed. Their guac is also super delicious. The way they have it setup is very disguising. It's sort of setup like chipotle, except you have to order from the kiosk first before you can see the food. If I would've saw the food before I ordered, I would not have ordered food. Once we turned the corner, I was immediately concerned. The food looked old and questionable. They were even out of basics like cilantro and onions. When we got to our table, I noticed everything around us was very dirty, something you'd expect to see in a public restroom. The walls and floors were extremely dirty. On top of all of this. It was extremely expensive. The price does not match the food, or experience. We paid $70 for a burrito, quesadilla, tacos and sodas for 3 kids! If a restaurant wants to charge prices like this, their food, ambience, and customer service need to match the price. read more

I love, love, love District Taco for breakfast. I always get the Flaco, so pinto beans and cheese, and I add lettuce, cilantro, pico, guacamole, and various salsas on corn tortillas. So good. These location is super close to work, which makes it easy for me to pick up breakfast in the morning. But their lunch/dinner tacos are bland and flavorless, even the vegetarian versions. I love street-style tacos and these just don't compare, especially when there are so many delicious taco offerings in the area. My friend and I needed to get lunch after studying all morning and wanted to try this place out. When walking in, the counter service was pretty quick and it wasn't too crowded, even though we went on a Saturday for lunch. I ordered the burrito desnudo (a burrito bowl) with guacamole and the Jefe Way toppings (lettuce, pico, veggies, cheese, and sour cream). I also picked up a few salsas from the salsa bar (definitely a highlight of my experience). The salsas came in a range of spiciness levels and each had a unique flavor. I tried all of the salsas, but definitely loved the tomatillo salsa (mild) and the mestizo salsa (hot) the most. My food came pretty quickly (pictured) and was a good portion for how much I paid. I was pretty excited for the food, but it wasn't super special in my opinion. The guacamole was delicious and I liked the salsas a lot, but my entrée could have used more flavor. Without the salsa, the food was a little bland and I would give it 3 stars. The only reason this review is 4 stars is because of the salsa bar. I was underwhelmed. How can a chorizo taco with pico and all the fixings taste so...bland? Even their hot salsa did little to add anything. Positives: everything tasted fresh (though very under seasoned); food came out quick; service was friendly and attentive; digital POS ordering system makes things easy. I keep hearing that their fish tacos are the best thing on the menu. At some point I'll give this place one more shot, and I'll try the fish tacos on flour tortillas. Came here expecting just another hyped taco place, but bae and I were pleasantly surprised. There wasn't much parking on a Sunday afternoon, but we got lucky and squeezed in. We each got 3 tacos on corn tortillas of course. I got 2 Al pastor and a Carnita taco. You can add toppings like onions and jalepenos when you order and choose between flour or corn tortillas. We got our number and waited patiently. We collected our various salsas from mild to SPICYYY. These cute lil tacos were individually wrapped and they were peeerrrrfect. Been 4 times to district taco, today's experience having their tacos was so disappointing I had to leave a review. Every other time I had a "Smothered burrito" which although it is not Mexican food it was always good. This place is considered Tex-Mex not exactly mexican. Anyways, when ordering the cashier was annoyed every-time I had a question she would point towards the wall with menu description. For example, when she asked me what sauces I wanted in my "tacos de carnitas" I told her I wasn't familiar with the options. She pointed towards the wall menu rather than tell me. The food: my three carnita tacos were soggy and the corn tortillas were falling apart. I am not picky but when the name of an establishment is "District TACO" you expect good tacos if anything. Each taco has a double layer of tortilla and still upon removing the tinfoil they were falling apart from the beginning. It was so frustrating that by the time I got to my 3rd taco I decided to eat the carnitas only rather than deal with the soggy mess of a taco. (I realized that under all that lettuce there were only 4 pieces of meat lol). After that experience I am not coming back. Props to them for the super spicy salsas. Do not go here! They only have order by kiosk system and the employees do not assist you if you have issues or questions in ordering! Senior citizens and those less adept with kiosk ordering will be ignored and laughed at by 6-7 employees in empty restaurant giggling and socializing with each other.
