District Tacos makes some of the best Tacos in the DMV. You don't go here for ambiance it is mostly a take out or Lunch spot. I love their Fish Tacos or the carnitas tacos. However, there is no limit to the variety of what to try. You can go "Gringo" style and add tomatoes, lettuce and even corn or "authentic "with onions and cilantro and a Chile. I prefer authentic for my meat tacos and gringo for my fish tacos. The fish is fried crispy, not soggy, perfectly seasoned not bland and the corn tortillas are fresh. The carnitas are well seasoned and also very, very tasty. They also have great Pico, Guac and queso. For March Madness games, I get several large queso, pico and guacamole and chips orders and a taco order and everyone LOVES IT! You can also build a burrito, a quesadilla or a salad bowl! read more

A very nice vibe at this location. My 3 grilled chicken tacos were good and filling! With seats overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue foot traffic is was a relaxing lunch with my friend from childhood. Too much time passes with work and life to appreciate good company and good food. The point of service ordering system takes a moment to get used. ALLERGEN WARNING My son has a dairy/soy allergy. I asked and confirmed what the "itza" was and was told it was mushroom and did not contain soy. I stated I had an allergy and the cashier went to the back to confirm again no soy. I began eating and noticed it tasted very much like soy. I asked again to confirm and the manager came out to tell me that is, in fact, soy. As soy is a top 9 allergen, not only should it be labeled but if someone asks, do your due diligence and check before putting someone at risk. They refunded our check with an empty apology but that's not going to help me when my son is waking up hourly with stomach pains. I was seriously craving some District Taco--and let's be real, they're not authentic Mexican tacos, but they're that guilty pleasure I keep coming back to. I hadn't had them in over 6 years, and I was surprised (and impressed!) that the flavor has stayed super consistent. This location was spotless, which made the experience even better. I ordered the nachos--absolutely delicious, though I kind of regret adding the chipotle mayo (a little too much for my taste). The tacos were just how I like them, loaded with everything. Definitely the highlight of the visit. I also tried the burrito, but honestly? Chipotle's burritos are better. If you're going to District Taco, I'd say skip the burrito and go all in on tacos and nachos. We finished with the churros, and I wouldn't order them again. They were just kind of... meh. The food was really bland. I'll start with that. I think a few others have mentioned it as well but this was my first and most likely my last time eating as District Tacos. I got a veggie bowl. It was supposed to come with rice but I don't know if they are cutting costs or just didn't have enough rice but there was maybe 2-3 tablespoons of rice in the bowl. I just told them to put all the veggies in without looking and once I opened the lid, imma be honest, it was very visually appetizing. Everything had a dull gray quality to it. Also, for such a large bowl, one would expect more than a quarter of the bowl to be full. Maybe use smaller bowls so they look more full. As far as taste, after the sight of the bowl (rice, corn, sour cream, lettuce, black beans, pico de gallo, cilantro, onions, jalapeños) I wasn't expecting much. I'm glad I set my expectation low. Why did nothing have any seasoning? It's nice that they cooked a lot of items on the grill but the food still needs to be seasoned, preferably before putting it on the grill. The char of the grill adds its own flavor but other than that, no original seasoning. Even the salsa was bland. How is that possible? The guacamole was salty which was odd. In a landscape of so many other restaurants in DC that serve similar type/style foods, District Tacos doesn't stand out for me. They greeted me nicely but too much chatter with co workers instead of getting the orders out and completed so ppl can have there food. As for the taste of the food, it's missing FLAVOR!!! Big time! I was in the area and saw DC Tacos close by so I decided to grab dinner on the way home...I was excited to have some DC Tacos...it had been awhile. I was delighted to see fish tacos being served today. It's served on certain days and Sunday was one of them. I'm writing this because I enjoyed the tacos tremendously, but it's been an hour since and my stomach is killing me. There were about 3-4 cubes of tasteless chicken, a huge handful of lettuce, a sprinkle of what I thought was cheese, have no idea what that was, a smear of sour cream which I really do not believe there was any sour cream on there as I could not taste anything. After a long day of community service, I was starving and had to eat was presented to me AFTER I PAID FOR IT! The owner ( i believe that is who he was) came over to ask how everything was, and I told him the exact same thing that I said here and his response "we had to raise the prices" and compromised the quality of the food as well huh, was I was thinking. And when I tell you the porcelain throne was my friend for the next 7 hours, it was not pretty, not pretty at all. I really expect this kind of bathroom results from eating at TB. If I had to do it all over again and was given a choice between DT and TB, (if there are no other options) TB will be the winner, at least I will get the flavor, lots of toppings, and a reasonable amount of meat at a reasonable price. The veggie meat was really good it wasn't dry I enjoyed it. Corn tortillas are normally my favorite but I didn't care for this one as much. They double tortilla it which was helpful because it was a little wet. I love the salsa bar they have! Its full of different salsa I tried the medium one it was a a little hot. It was perfect for my taste. I don't really like spicy foods and this was perfect!! Their customer service was amazing!! Fountain drinks down and they don't sell beer. Had to get an overpriced water. Ordered food for here but regardless of how you order they pack it to go. The tacos have changed a lot since my last time here. I want to say I was here maybe 5/6 years ago. The quality of the tacos was mediocre, we opted for the 3 for $10 tacos. There was very little seasoning, flavor and the presentation of the tacos was unappealing. The authenticity of the tacos was missing, it seemed like the story behind DT was lost in the commercialization of the area. The food is pretty good when they can get your order right but they've had some seriously challenges with that. In our latest order we found a white creamy substance (sour cream?) that looked and tasted like dairy in a burrito clearly marked vegan in online ordering (great that they have that option but concerning they can't stick to it - what if somebody had a serious allergy??). Last time we had an issue (an unclosed salsa container in order that leaked all over everything and side of guac subbed for queso) we were refunded for the whole order. This time we were refunded for the non-vegan burrito. Would have been nice to hear something a little more apologetic from customer service but happy they've at least been willing to refund for their mistakes. I'm still willing to eat here (the tacos are pretty good!) but my vegan boyfriend isn't willing to give them a third chance. Note: we haven't had these issues at other DT locations read more

I've had the churros twice from here. The first time I ate them I felt a little queasy but just thought it was because of something else I ate. The second time I tried them, they gave me a stomsch virus. I ended up throwing up 5 times later like 2 hours after eating them. I really tried to like them, they were good with the chocolate sauce, but they made me throw up. When the cook was frying them, it took like 30 seconds to get them ready which was a little suspicious. The food is bland from here and not worth the money at all. Backstory: DC isn't my favorite place. All the A-type personalities are too much, the transactional nature of relationships is exhausting, and the dismissiveness in many interactions with people is disappointing. So, when I moved here six years ago, I needed something to look forward to that I could consistently enjoy and keep my head down. My spouse and I, pre-COVID, did lunch every Thursday at District Taco (rain, heat, or snow), and it was always satisfying. The tacos are always consistently good. As a Texas boy, it's not the greatest tacos I've ever had, but for a fast casual option, I really enjoy the food. The options are vast and the prices are reasonable. For me the best thing on the menu is actually the mestizo salsa. The flavors are rich and a little smokey, and has the perfect amount of heat. I wish there was more consistency in the consistency of the queso (sometimes it's too watery and sometimes to viscous). The addition of itza as a vegetarian option makes them more accessible for a variety of diets. And, most importantly for me, the staff at DT is polite and helpful, two things you don't always get from DC workers. At this point, District Taco feels like an OG. So many restaurants have come and gone and many not great taco joints are still around, so having DT on the block ensures there's always a go-to place for a quick taco fix. read more

This place is a solid staple in the area. The service is always good and prompt. Staff is friendly. And tacos and burritos are soo good! The shrimp tacos are always good, but only available on certain days. They have soda machines that use real sugar not the standard Coca Cola. But they have bottled "Mexican coke". District Taco is a decent DC Mex-American taco and burrito chain. It's not authentic, but it's good for what it is! I like the Capitol Hill location because it is fairly large if you want to eat in, and it is convenient to the Eastern Market metro as well. It also has good hours and is one of the few takeout/casual things open on a Sunday night in this area that is not a national chain. The queso is decent, and the shrimp tacos (3/$10.50) aren't the best in the area but are acceptable for a chain. Burritos are good as well. I would have rather gone to Taco Bell. A little over $14! for a disrespectful tortilla filled with chewy unseasoned steak and some other stuff. I ate about a third of the burrito, threw the rest away, and heated up a hot pocket. I came here on a recommendation and now I'm rethinking if I should ever trust their judgment based solely on this woefully underwhelming burrito. It felt embarrassed for district taco. If you have any dietary restrictions this place really isn't for you. There's a very limited menu for anyone who doesn't eat meat. Three of our tacos arrived cold and I mean COLD. I'm convinced two of them were literally sitting on ice before being brought out to us! This has a really great reputation in the DC VA MD area but honestly I don't think the food and the atmosphere live up to the hype. DT used to be on my regular rotation pre-covid, and I have gone back a few times since... first when it was carry-out only and now that they allow dining inside. Unfortunately, it's a shell of what it used to be... The fish tacos tasted like bad fryer oil one visit, and on another visit my chicken rice bowl was pretty tasteless and had some chicken bits that were not exactly chewable. One of the treats used to be the fixin/salsa bar, with a variety of salsa, fresh jalapeno, lime, etc... all gone now. If you ask for salsa, you get a tiny container with about a tablespoon of salsa. I went back twice to get more and they begrudgingly handed some more tiny containers over. I didn't bother asking for anything else. Just not so welcoming anymore. Let me know when salsa bar is back and your staff really wants to be there. read more

Admittedly, I didn't catch them on their best day; credit card machine was down, and it was quite a wait and a bit of a circus. That isn't really what disappointed me though. I'm no expert, but I was kind of expecting that my various taco toppings would be put into a tortilla, which would then be cooked. Which didn't happen. Obviously, the beans and such were precooked, but a room temperature tortilla and various mixed ingredients really need to be heated together, not just stuffed together. So I think, anyway. That being said, the results were still palatable. The salsas available at a separate bar were quite good. I didn't even try the special by request only one, but the hottest one out there was enough to make me stop and indignantly glare a bit at the cup I put it in. Salsa wasn't really necessary though; their pinto beans and jalapeños were quite flavorful (black beans and rice were marginally less so), and the included guac made for a reasonably filling light meal. I was a tad nervous watching them whirling around making these things, but I'll give them credit for getting everything right and avoiding any cross-contamination. The selection of plant-based ingredients makes for some appealing choices, and while I've had plenty of better meals, for $8 and within walking distance of the Capitol, you could do worse. read more

Before District Taco had permanent locations throughout the DC Metro area, I remember hordes of colleagues venturing to their food truck every Thursday in Crystal City. Their breakfast tacos were great, but I always though their lunch tacos tasted like a dead carcass (You know when cooked meat just tastes like a dead carcass with flies swarming over it- gross). I just didn't understand all the hype... ...until they opened a location in Eastern Market. That's when I was won over. The taco meat no longer tastes like a carcass, but it is perfectly cooked. I always get the burrito mojado (more than enough food and the sauce on the burrito makes it!). There is ton of seating here, but perhaps avoid lunch time on a Sunday. You'll have to wait for a table and no one likes people hovering near their table as you try to enjoy a peaceful lunch. The key to District Taco is the unlimited condiment bar in the back. It has several salsas to choose from and onions and peppers and more. Yum! For what it is, this is a good place. 5 stars for the service, but only 4 for the food. Of course I have been somewhat of a loyal Chipolte fan, but honestly everything i order starts to taste the same! I went out on a limb and decided to try something new and diferent, The taste was a little different because I was able to add a few things that I could not at the other place...such as cilantro, jalapenos, pineapple (Al Pastor) and few more salsas to accompany the pico de gallo. I did get a different taste, but not what I thought it would be. seemed a little skimpy on the pork, but lots and lots of rice. I had originally asked for my bowl to be made separately, meaning pineapple, pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream and guac on the side since I was going to eat much later after I ordered.
