Came here before going around Alexandria to have a bite to eat. Tried this place out and got the Bowl (Jefe way) with steak and Chorizo added. It was pretty decent. The flavors went well together and it brought a nice balance. The chorizo was really good! This place reminds me of chipotle btw. Washed it down with my drink. District Taco has changed and not in a good way. This food is still good, but everything else has gone down hill. The salsa bar is gone, which was arguably the best part of the restaurant. They have also gotten rid of plates/trays! Everything is packaged to go even when eating in. So now you're eating out of wrappers right on the table and there's all this extra packaging to be trashed. It was an extremely unpleasant dining experience. It also feels like they are nickel and dining you with higher prices for a worse experience. I don't think we will be back. read more

Read before going there at night: The place looked great, and we were in the mood for tacos. We expected it to be busier based on reviews, but it was Sunday, so we figured maybe it's a weekday place. The folks in the kitchen were very nice and did a good job preparing the meal exactly as we ordered. Quick, too. Very friendly. Then we sat down to eat, and that's where it went sideways. The food was just okay. Little bland, to be honest, but not horrible. We were eating and enjoying some conversation when one of the employees, a young kid with glasses and a mop of hair, started loudly slamming chairs into the tables and on the floor (metal chairs, concrete floor). At first, I thought he was having some sort of episode, but then he started yelling, "Good night!" and looking and my wife and I while kind of giggling to himself. I've worked fast food before, and I knew exactly what he was doing; trying to get us to leave so that he could close early. I've seen it happen if someone's hanging out after closing hours. It's immature and poor customer service, but I get it. But this... was more than an HOUR before closing. We tried ignoring him so that we could finish our food and conversation, but this guy kept slamming chairs and yelling "Good night!" like a child throwing a tantrum. It was so bad, I expected a manager or someone to rush out and wrangle this kid. I looked, and the people in the kitchen wanted nothing to do with him. It was frankly embarrassing. Obviously, we won't be back, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else, which is a shame, but if an employee is behaving like this in front of customers and no one is doing anything about it, there is more going on in the back of house. read more

Wow their prices have gone up! Then again so have everyone else's. First off a really nice group of employees here. My son wanted tacos, and while they have bowls, I went that route also. They were decent, but I can't say they satisfied our appetites. To be fair he's a teenager, and I'm a fairly big guy. I do think they could tweak this a bit though. They've come a ways from their humble beginnings. The ingredients are of good quality. Yet I think there are better taco spots. Am a connoisseur of this food group, and will say these are alright. The only thing this place ever had going for it was the salsa bar and their greedy ass owners used covid as an excuse to get rid of it. I grew up in Cal and Colorado and adore Mexican food. We love this place! We've only had the breakfast burritos but they are excellent and we go almost very Saturday morning. They're large and all the ingredients are cooked fresh that morning. I'm totally dissatisfied with my order. Not because of the flavors of the food. I wouldn't expect to get great Mexican food on the east coast. I was actually mildly satisfied with the flavor of the food. What I was disgusted with is the fact that zero utensils or napkins were provided for Nachos with guac. The fact that I'm staying in a hotel with none of those simple yet essential amenities that a reasonable person might expect for a curbside pickup, consequently ruined my evening. I shouldn't have to tell you that paying $25ish for nachos with queso, sour cream, and guac might require such tools to eat. Regardless, I powered through and did the best I could with my god given appendages, only to result in less than good Mexican food on the hotel room floor and food slobber all over my hands, dripping down to my elbows! Granted, the food may have been better if I didn't have the added flavors from licking my hands, but what do I know? Alex and I have been going to District Taco more and more since being confined to the house during the pandemic. It is close to our new home and we love Mexican food. I've been on the fence about District Taco for many year... bring from so item California and my Papa being Mexican I didn't get the hype. Over the last several orders I have warmed up with each new thing I have ordered but today made me a lifetime customer! Between the customer service from Carlos G and the corn tortilla shrimp tacos it's a taste of Tijuana on the East Coast. We chose to pick up our order today instead of delivery because the last time we were there they forgot to give us the order of churros. It was my first time ordering churros and I am super picky because some of my favorite childhood memories involve buying hot delicious long churros while crossing from the Tijuana border back into CA. You would think the churros aren't a hard thing to make but leaving California I have not been able to find a decent everyday cheap delicious churro on the East Coast... Minus the fancy ones at Boqueria (which are fantastical). Anyway, back to the story at hand, when I told Carlos G about the previous mistake and he not only gave us the one churro but THREE churros on the and a large guac and chips on the house! That is some excellent customer service! Thank you so much. I will leave you on this pro tip from a southern California girl: get the churros and get the shrimp tacos on corn tortilla. They double the corn tortillas, but you only need to eat it with one... I know this sounds crazy but it really brings out the flavor of the shrimp and makes all the ingredients shine versus eating too much corn tortilla! I wouldn't do away with the double corn tortilla because it acts as a great transportation vessel and proves an excellent barrier for all the yummy toppings that are bound to fall out of the edges! While I loved Chicken Out at this location previously, District Taco is equally good. Choose your type of entree, and then choose the style of toppings that you want. If you want legit tacos then you can get the Mexican Way with cilantro and onion, or you can get the American way with lettuce/pico/cheese. And on top of that they have a well stocked salsa station, choose the color and spiciness level. The offer a 3-taco combo for $8. It's worth it, since the size of the tacos and total food ends up around an entree portion, certainly enough for a lunch. The Al Pastor was a big hit, succulent pork that was well seasoned. The Chorizo was my personal favorite, has a kick of spice but without the excess oil that plagues most other chorizo I try. The Carne Asada was simple salt and pepper seasoned beef, good quality though. The carnitas was unfortunately bland, was shredded and tender pork, but no strong flavor to carry the taco (suggest skipping it). read more

This is probably my favorite place for tacos in Old Town. The menu is straight forward and the staff is always helpful when deciding what to order. I have tried several of their taco fillings but steak with chorizo added has become my go-to. I love their salsa bar and usually order tortillas chips to eat the salsa with. Beware, the hot salsa is actually hot so I mix them when I need to tone down the heat. I also order my tacos with "mexican way" toppings, which is cilantro and onions, on soft corn tortillas. Mexican way reminds me of how tacos are served in California but its a matter of taste so customize them however you like! The seating area at this location is maintained and kept clean. Parking is a little tough with only a small parking area but there is street parking on Washington if you want to avoid the overcrowded lot. read more

Well I read the reviews and hoped it would be better. Extremely rude service from the cashier to the person who gave us the food. Extremely overpriced for the amount of food. I had never been there and the guy taking my order was so rude and wasn't patient with me deciding what to add to my bowl. When our food was ready, I asked the woman for salsa and she said she put some in the bag. I took her word, went back to our place and only found 1 thing of salsa for 3 tacos, and 2 bowls...very disappointed.
