This place cannot handle cinqo de mayo. It wasn't even the day, it was the weekend before (today, May 2). They had outside seating and it was empty because it was cold. Inside, most tables were taken but there were a few empty and what seemed to be plenty of waiters around. My bf and I sat at the bar. The couple next to us got there just before us and got their menus, chips and drinks, plus ordered. We received nothing. After awhile someone handed us chips and a menu. Then we were ignored again. Meanwhile the couple next to us had received their food. I finally flagged someone down and asked for a beer, queso and 4 tacos. My bf who did not have a drink never got water. They brought us 3 tacos instead of 4 and then ignored us again. Are you noticing a theme? The tacos honestly were not even good. Oh, and because of the "holiday" they automatically added an 18% tip. Probably because with this service and food they would receive less than that. Not a great experience.
Dear Tequila Taco Management, I am writing to express my disappointment with a recent experience involving an incorrect order and the way my concern was handled by your manager, Jeff. I ordered the Hot Honey Fried Chicken Taco from your online menu. When I received my order, the taco contained only fried chicken skin instead of fried chicken. I called the restaurant expecting a simple resolution. Instead, Jeff repeatedly told me the restaurant no longer offered that taco and questioned whether I had actually ordered it. I explained several times that I had ordered directly from your online menu, but he continued to dispute my statement. I finally asked Jeff to check the online menu himself. After placing me on hold, he returned and confirmed that the Hot Honey Fried Chicken Taco was, in fact, still listed. Although he offered to refund the $5.50 taco, he never apologized for questioning my honesty or acknowledged that he was mistaken. This was never about the cost of the taco. It was about how I was treated. As an Alexandria resident whose family eats at Tequila Taco regularly, I expected to be treated with respect and given the benefit of the doubt. Instead, a simple order issue became an unpleasant interaction. I wanted to share this experience because I believe it reflects poorly on your customer service, and I hope it is addressed. We've had this restaurant on our list for a while. We went on a Saturday late afternoon and were promptly seated outside on one of the patios. The inside is also spacious and suitable for larger parties. The manager was very friendly along with the servers. Loved that the chips/salsa were complementary (or so I think I never saw an itemized bill). The salsa wasn't too spicy and also had some volume to it but not overly chunky. We started with 4 tacos. I initially wanted an enchilada, but when I saw the large variety of tacos I had to start there. Sadly, I was disappointed in both the Mahi and chicken. Both meats were over cooked and dry. While the slaw on the Mahi added some moisture it just wasn't enough. The chicken wasn't spicy, the sauce was nice, but there just wasn't enough. It was also cold which led me to believe the chicken was pre cooked and just sitting in a pan waiting to be used. I also find it interesting when romaine is put in tacos -- I would have preferred cilantro and diced onion. My partner said his two tacos were great, had no complaints and you could see the juices running out of his. We also shared the pulled pork burrito. Odd that it came out with what tasted like enchilada sauce, but we went with it. The rice and beans are inside of the burrito making it very filling. I'm not sure if it was just this one, but there was very little meat and more rice/beans. The spicy margaritas were probably the best part of the meal! Overall, I wasn't overly satisfied with the food. I think the rating on here is pretty accurate. I'd say it's more authentic than most places, but still missing some key points. I'd probably go back for happy hour or maybe during a meal time to give it another chance.

I've actually never been here before, but I came here on Taco Tuesday with a friend and it was pretty good. It was crowded and I was seated right away. The waiter was pretty friendly and informative. I ordered some rosemary margarita special they had (I don't remember if that is the correct name), but it was made just right! I also ordered 3 tacos--the spicy shrimp, carne asada, and Birria. The spicy shrimp and the Birria were my favorite!! The carne asada just didn't do it for me! Overall, I enjoy it and had a pretty good experience. I will be back for those tacos again!
When we arrived, the waiter brought over a paper bag of warm chips and a bowl of salsa. It is a nice touch. I was not hungry so ordered only an empanada. It was very hot when served and very tasty. I did not care for the chili verde sauce, which seemed a bit salty.
Amazing restaurant! I am traveling for work and staying nearby. I asked the front desk about this place and it came highly recommended. The waiter was extremely nice and friendly and offered great suggestions. They give you home made tortilla chips and salsa to start. I got guacamole and a grilled steak fajita bowl with lettuce and everything was amazing. Definitely inquire about their daily specials. This place was nicely decorated and quiet and chill just what I needed after a long day of travel. Could not recommend this place more!!!
We came in during Happy Hour and tried the Elote, the trio dips, the tacos and the frozen Margherita flight. The happy hour had great prices. They also have daily specials. Parking is limited to street parking. The customer service was excellent. The frozen margueita flight was delicious, though I think the lime one tastes alot better! The elote was just okay. You only get 3 prices. The trio dip is small but good for small sharing. The tacos were pretty good. The decor is beautiful and the restaurant has a fun ambiance. They also have outdoor seating if you have a pup. Overall, pretty good good, great customer service and delicious margueritas.
The Manager came over to talk to me because it was slow ( I went early afternoon in a weekday) several times. He was very friendly. Even the server, and servers who weren't even in charge of my order all checked on me throughout My experience. Th mexican street corn Covid use some important ( a little dry) but everything else was great. The yucca fries were wonderful, the tacos were fresh l, and I love the toppings. There are so many different bites that you can sample and the prices are very reasonable.
This place is amazing! Super friendly staff, reasonable prices and delicious food. I met a friend here while in town on business. And was stoked to find this place with great selections for gluten and vegan tacos. I had one with kale and avocado, and another with sweet potatoes. Both were excellent bad were the free chips and salsa. I'll definitely be returning when I'm back with family next month. And I've got my eyes on the sweet potato bowl.
This taco spot is all about the aesthetics and proximity to old town! Plenty of street parking in the surrounding area. Great spot to enjoy some tacos and a drink and especially on a beautiful day to enjoy their outdoor seating. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and offered recommendations based on my interest. The food took some time to come out but they provide chips and salsa to enjoy and it wasn't an issue since it was flavorful. I tried several of the taco options and my only concern is the portion is on the smaller side.

If you're looking for a spot that actually understands flavor, Tequila & Taco is it. The tacos were fresh, seasoned just right, and packed not skimpy. You can taste the quality in every bite. The tortillas weren't dry, the meat wasn't bland, and the toppings balanced everything perfectly. They run a Taco Tuesday special, so that's already a win. Good food and a deal The tequila selection is impressive. Whether you like it smooth and light or bold with a kick, they've got options. The margaritas? Strong enough to respect, smooth enough to enjoy. No watered-down nonsense. The staff was genuinely nice welcoming, attentive, and on top of everything without hovering. We came here with friends on a Saturday afternoon because one of them really loves margaritas. We chose to be seated outside. The complimentary tortilla chips come in a brown paper bag. The accompanying salsa was tasty. We also liked the queso dip that we ordered as a side. JP ordered the attractively presented breakfast burrito and found it to be very good. The rest of us ordered the ground beef enchiladas. They come with Mexican rice and refried black beans. I thought the enchiladas were good but really needed substantially more cheese and red sauce because they were kinda dry. But there was a question about the preparation of the margaritas. JP requested his first margarita be agave free (i.e. not sweet). It turned out great. But when JP and our friend ordered another round, the second round was yellowish orange instead of green, and they were sweet. Our server insisted the margaritas were made the same way the second time. She did agree to have them re-made, but the remade ones were identical to the ones that we sent back. Since I don't drink margaritas and don't have a vested interest in that aspect of Tacos and Tequila, I'd like to come back to further explore their menu. read more

I got the 4 course meal for $35 - it comes with a margarita, 3 dip appetizer, 4 tacos and tres leches. And it was so delicious. The whole meal was wonderful and the environment and wait staff were so attentive. Highly recommend this place! read more
Taco Tequila is one of my favorite spots! The margarita flight is always a winner--both the frozen and on-the-rocks options are delicious. The shrimp and blackened salmon tacos are my go to. The service is great, and the manager, Brian, is super nice. He even had one of the servers bring me a taco coin and introduced himself as I was leaving. We came here because we wanted somewhere that sang and gave a dessert for our kids birthday. This place did come over and sing and provide a Mexican three milk cake. Everyone who worked here was decently nice but our server was slow for there being no other tables. She also brought the wrong juice. The service was appalling but it wasn't great. The inside was cute and gave a newer modern with a Mexican theme vibe. They had a large bar and ample seating around the restaurant. Here is where all hell breaks loose. The food....absolutely terrible. It was neat that they had a taco bar where you could indicate the tacos you wanted and mix and match. I had the spicy shrimp, the grilled shrimp, carne asada, and the birria tacos. The grilled shrimp was decently seasoned and flavored but the shrimp was overcooked and tasted like the burnt end of a dirty pan. The carne asada was also okay, but what a joke to call it carne asada. The meat was unseasoned and not tender. The spicy shrimp was absolutely disgusting. I do not even know how to describe the flavor. All heat and no flavor. And to top it off the birria taco should just be removed. What a JOKE to call the taco birria to begin. They literally melted some cheese on the tortilla and called it birria... the meat was squishy and rubbery. You could not chew it. There was no consome. It tasted like pre chewed mush. I spit it out immediately. The salsa was actually good but not spicy. Just a nice mild picante sauce. The queso was terrible. It literally tasted worse that canned queso. No flavor, completely bland with a hint of pico on top. The rice and beans were bland. The dessert for the birthday was mushy. Nothing was good and the bill was $120. Will not return. **I did live in AZ and Southern CA and please bear in mind I am already bougie about Mexican food. However, this was not even in my opinion passing for texmex. read more

Everything was great! From the location (quieter part of Alexandria with street or garage parking amply available) to the quick service from the host/seater to the delivery of our food by the server, the experience was superb! Free chips and salsa came first! The food (beef tacos, bean tostadas, elote corn, queso) was all fresh, beautifully presented, tasty, and definitely worth the price. We wanted more more more! The server, Celia, was excellent---friendly, personable, upbeat, consistent, caring, and knowledgeable! We need more servers like her! Also the interior decor was super cool; I was marveling at the wonderful upcycled scrap metal musicians along the bar wall and other cool art and murals throughout. They were also decked out for Christmas, including lights on two patios and bows in the arborvitae trees in the planter boxes. We would definitely return! read more

Overall a great experience. Yummy food, fun atmosphere, great location, attentive service. Went with a few friends and we were able to split the check 3 ways. And our server never left us for too long but also didn't bother us unnecessarily. I ordered the margarita flight, which came with three flavors--classic, hibiscus, and ginger. The classic was fantastic, but I felt like the other two lacked flavor and seemed a little watered down. I wish the ginger had had more of a ginger punch. The taco menu is fun and has some unique, fun options. It's cool that you can order from a printed list at your table. I went with the pork belly, Korean bbq, barilla, and cauliflower, kale, and pumpkin seed. They were all equally delicious, but the barilla was my favorite. I like the flavor of the pork belly but it was challenging to eat and the deep fried pork was hard to bite into and not soft... too difficult to eat in the form of a taco. Our group shared the churro dessert, which is served with chocolate dipping sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel sauce. It was really yummy. Definitely recommend and look forward to returning. read more
Solid local taco spot for the Carlyle area! Cocktails were delicious -- not too sweet and well balanced. Some items were a bit pricey but overall reasonable. We enjoyed the free chips and salsa, and spicy guac (which wasn't too spicy and a good portion size for two). Favorite tacos were the birria, fried fish, and carne asada. Happy Hour Review: My friend and I found this via google. They don't do reservations, and we came around 5:30pm on a Friday and there was no wait. We were sat inside at a table, and we decided to move to the bar for happy hour (can only do happy hour at the bar). Happy Hour menu was limited but we left content. We got the frozen margarita flight (which was alright), classic nachos (which was great), and the elote loco (which was tasty but it got stuck in a lot of my teeth). Just FYI--we were asked which meat and got the shredded chicken per their recommendations and was charged more without knowledge. The interior is pretty and seemingly clean. Unfortunately, the bartenders weren't very friendly. It was hard to track them down, they didn't acknowledge you when you do ask for something but they'll bring by more water when you ask. Be mindful of the happy hour time, because they won't do a last call and it's hard to track them down. We spent about $27 altogether. Would come back to try their regular menu. read more
Tacos were not up to my standard considering the price I paid. Large tacos, but the ingredients didn't marry together; overall very bland. The aesthetics are solid though. Not too bad. I would've been open to having dinner there too, I like that they have taco cards with about 15 options or so, and you can just mark whichever ones you want. Since I already had dinner, I ordered a smoky margarita which was made not only with tequila, but mezcal as well. Now I had heard of mezcal, but I admit, I didn't know much about it. Well, it definitely was the dominant flavor in this margarita. And it's more than 50% ABV, so it's quite a bit stronger than tequila. I drank it, but I'm really not sure I would ever order a mezcal drink again, it went right to the sides of my throat with a touch of burn. My mom and I came here for restaurant week. I think the ambience is very nice in a quiet little nook! The food isn't great though. My mom got the fajitas and said that the carne had a weird seasoning to it and that the chicken had a smoked/char flavor; the rice was spicy but didn't taste like anything (just heat). The only thing she liked was the shrimp on the fajitas. As for myself i got the Tacos: Spicy shrimp (Very spicy and flavorful! if you love spice it's the one to get!) Fried fish (Bland, I wish they would have seasoned the batter the fish was fried it, i think the batter was lovely but just didn't have flavor) Carne asada (I agree with my mom, the seasoning the use its weird, it's a blend of flavors that i can't describe but just don't work: it's not one i would use to season carne asada) Crispy Pork Belly (CRISPY indeed. Very flavorful with the gochugang sauce) I like that you are able to choose what you want your taco in : Flour tortilla, Corn tortilla, or Lettuce Wrapped. Overall, IF i were to come back it would only be for the Spicy Shrimp Taco and the Crispy Pork Belly Taco, and even then its a little pricey per taco, but the only ones i would recommend.
