I picked up my dog from structured daycare at Parview location. The "manager" gave me my dog and said nothing. I walked out and realized my dog was covered from head to toe in urine and excrement. I walked back in and asked if there was a problem and she was like oh yeah yeah, she messed her crate twice today but we wiped her off. I should have never been handed back my dog in this type of condition AND without any explanation. And how long was she in this state with no attention to her health and wellbeing? And apparently they accept no responsibility: "Unfortunately we do not have a grooming at this facility and really no way of cleaning her up other than just water. The dogs are crated throughout the day when we are rotating the classes of the different groups of pups. When we have a full house it is almost impossible to keep cleaning crates and transferring her to another." - Megan Clipfel-Johnson, Structured Daycare Manager This all sounds like a District Dogs problem, not my problem. With them knowingly operating one location in a flood zone that ultimately killed puppies during a flash flood last year to an employee at another location hitting a puppy that resulted in its death, you would think they would have a heightened level of care, but apparently not. Be cautious of using the Parkview location if you care about your pup's health and wellbeing. read more

We really love the Park View location of District Dogs for their structured daycare. Jed Bartlet (my 11mo Portie puppy) has been going to the Shaw location since he was fully vaccinated as a wee pup. The DD staff were with him through all the feisty puppy phases, including shark teeth! When Jesse Levine left Shaw and went to Park View, we checked it out. Had I realized that the Park View location was just as far of a walk for us and offered structured, we would have probably started there even though Shaw is more convenient for my commute. Jed absolutely loves daycare, regardless of the location, but I love the structured option because of the smaller group of doggos, individual attention, and planned activities throughout the day. I always receive much more thoughtful and detailed report cards at the Park View location, and every single staff member is top notch! I have never seen them just sitting in the corner on their cell phones; all staff are always playing with the dogs, giving scratches, and reinforcing good manners like not jumping on people and sitting before going in and out the door. Jed has never once come home from Park View smelling like he walked through or laid in pee -- which is a pretty regular occurrence at the other location, unfortunately. It is more expensive than regular daycare but, for us, it is worth it. We also pay the $65/mo fee to use the Bark Park outside and Jed loves to play there and get out his zoomies off-leash a few times a week, regardless of whether we are at daycare that day. We have done a Dump the Jump class and a private lesson with Avi Israeli, the trainer at Park View, as well. Avi is lovely and really knows his stuff! When Jed got pneumonia over the summer, we couldn't use 7 of our 10 expensive structured daycare credits. I kept him out of daycare for at least a month past the date the doc said he could go back and, when we got to daycare, they extended our package for three weeks with no issues whatsoever! I was so grateful. Jesse's last day was earlier this week and both Jed & I are terribly sad, but we're going to keep going! Small things that would make this location even better: - Longer expiration dates on the packages (as is, both the 10-day and 20-day packages expire in 45 days. 20 is more economical but I can't use it in that time and even the 10 is difficult, depending on my work schedule). - The pickup/dropoff window is just about 30mins too short for my work day. The additional commute time from this location makes me have to hustle in both directions in order to work an 8.5 hour day and walk/metro commute 45mins each way. I would use this location every in-office day if the times were just a bit more flexible one way or the other. 15 mins on each end would be ideal :) - The camera system isn't great at this location. It buffers a lot and seems like a different system than the other locations so I rarely log in while Jed is at Park View. Much of the day, his play group is out of rotation anyway so you just see an empty (but clean!!) room. read more

Came for a one time workshop with Avi and really enjoyed it. I found the instructor knowledgable, patient, and very good about cramming as much foundational knowledge, homework, and followup information as he could in the class time. There was follow up with videos and further step by step instructions as well as suggestions for next step. I went with my husband and there was one other couple with their dog as well. The training area wasn't huge (comfortable for three dogs?) with little toweled barriers so the dogs weren't distracted by each other. Location was clean, easy to find, and there was parking behind the facility for people attending class. I definitely felt like even that one hour made a difference on our dog jumping. As a dog parent with an older spoiled fur child, it's good to know it's never too late to take your dog to a training center. I wish I had known sooner about this place, but never too late to teach an old dog some new tricks. I would definitely take another course here. Strongly recommend! read more

The new structured daycare program at District Dogs' Park View location has been amazing for our pup, Primo. We've been frequent clients of all District Dog locations, but have found the structured daycare option to be a great way to manage play time (preventing overstimulation) and ensure that Primo gets individualized attention. The staff are so friendly, always give detailed updates on Primo's activities, and instill confidence that Primo is learning while he plays. The cute activities (ball pit, basic training, etc.) are also a big plus. I can't recommend highly enough! read more

I have never done a yelp review before, but I had such a horrible experience today I felt the need to share with other potential customers of District Dogs. I bought a 20 daycare package earlier this year for $560. Additionally, they sent a free half day pass a little over a month ago (they said it was for my dog's bday, which I actually thought was a nice touch and good marketing for a local business). Today I decided to use the half day pass. When I went to pick my dog up today, the manager told me it would be $24. I explained I was using my half day pass. He said I don't have one. I told him they sent it to me and pulled up the email. He told me it expires after 30 days. Instead of saying "no problem, honest mistake, we'll honor it" like anybody with any customer service skills would do, he said "oh well, it will be $24". I was frustrated and said just use one of my 20 passes. He did, and then told me the remaining 11 would expire in 2 days. I was incredulous. I pulled up my account and receipt for buying the package. It said nothing about an expiration. Further, my account clearly has a column for "expires" and was left blank, indicating there was not an expiration date (I've attached a screen shot of this). He kept saying that's their policy, and tough luck. He then left for over 10 minutes and came back saying the owner agreed to extend it two weeks. Unreal! This is one step above a scam. The end result is that despite absolutely nothing indicating this package expires, I will not get to use 11 of the 20 sessions. At $28/session, that is $308 that District Dogs in essence has stolen from me. To top it all off, my dog detests going there. When we walk by on our walk, he pulls like crazy out into Georgia Ave to avoid going anywhere near the door. This is an exact opposite reaction to how he has acted around daycare facilities in the past. read more

Very cozy place, with this "neighborhood" feeling that makes it great. People there are super friendly and kind. It is also nice to see that owner is also there taking care of clients. They have a nice ratio of area/number of dogs that gives every dog its space if they want it (we've tried other places, and they all seem so crowed). In sum, my dog seems to like it as well, which is what matters. At the end of the day we receive a summary of my dog's activity, and they also post nice pictures so we can keep track of his adventures. read more

I love this location's Structured Daycare program, with the smaller play group sizes and individualized attention that's perfect for my reserved, somewhat socially awkward but sweet and loving girl. David is amazing and I appreciate the team's detailed report cards too. We recently added private 30-minute training sessions with Avi, to help Luna with her leash reactivity and practice in the real world. Okay, I'm obsessed with this place after two visits! I recently relocated from the Bay Area and finding a daycare for my dog Bogue was top priority. He's been going to daycare since he was about 5 months old and he's now almost 4! My friend's dog goes to this place so I figured I'd try it out. The online portal is super convenient so I scheduled Bogue in for an evaluation quickly. The front staff took him in quickly, they were friendly and.. He passed and ended up staying the whole day! I was shocked (in a good way) to get his report card with the pictures! His last daycare didn't do this and it's a cool bonus. Best part - he doesn't smell like piss when I pick him up. my dog absolutely LOVES coming to District Dogs. he has severe separation anxiety, so whenever I dropped him off at other dog day camps, I had to pretend that I was going inside with him so that he would go in. At District Dogs, he doesn't even turn back to look at me- he just runs right in, which reassures me in knowing he's in good hands. The incredible staff, who actually take the opportunity to know your dogs, alone are worthy of 5 stars. The reasonable prices and webcams simply seal the deal. Let's not even get started about the adorable report cards I get every night with his picture, his demeanor and his friends of the day. One day on the webcam I noticed that he was distressed, so I called them up and they took him for a walk, which helped him a lot for the rest of the day. I cannot recommend District Dogs enough. I recently rescued a cute little street kitten, and while she has been wonderful, her arrival was poorly planned with holiday travel. Thank goodness for District Dogs (don't be fooled by the name--they do cats, too!) who came to the rescue! While I was away with family over the holidays, Izzy came every day to check in on Maeby--she played with her, fed her, and changed her litter box. The best part was getting daily messages complete with photographs--it made me feel much better that she was okay while I was gone. A year ago we adopted an 8-year old high anxiety rescue dog and District Dogs has been a lifesaver for us. We first went to District Dogs for daycare and, even now that our little dude can handle being alone in the house for more than 30 seconds, we still bring him in once a week because they take such good care of him. And being at daycare has really helped him improve his confidence around other dogs, even if he's still not very good at playing. We recently took a 3 week trip out of the country and were really anxious about what to do with our dog while we were gone. In retrospect, we had nothing to worry about. We boarded our guy with District Dogs the whole time that we were away and it was relief knowing that our dog was never left alone. It was also great to get a report card every day so that we knew he was okay. The staff (especially Chris) took the time to get to know our dog and make him feel like he had a home away from home. I am so disappointed in my experience here. We adopted a shy new girl who LOVES dogs, and since we can't have a second-- decided to make her some friends. We took her to DD for her two hour eval. We found the staff welcoming and kind, and the front lobby was clean. We left her for her two hours. On our return, she was ears pinned, panting and made a B line for home-- ignoring us and pulling hard on her leash. I initially attributed it to the heat and wrote it off. Over the next few days she started having accidents inside, was terrified to go out and avoided other dogs. Again, the 4th of July happened in this time, so I correlated the behavior with fear of those loud noises. We worked really hard and patiently to get her back comfortable going outside and when she was, we thought maybe dog time would be fun and comforting. So back to district dogs we went for a half day. Dropping her off, we explained she was scared of loud noises and to please call us immediately with issues. We left and went home, turning the cameras on when we did. Problem 1- the camera doesn't show the whole room. Problem 2- as we watched, she paced nervously and no human attempted to interact with her. We watched a dog pee on the floor and an employee grab it roughly and slide it away so she could clean up. The employee appeared to be yelling and no other dogs were visible on camera. It had been 90 minutes in to her 5 hour time- but I went to retrieve her. The staff commented we were back quickly and i explained we watched the camera and weren't comfortable. Megan laughed and said "oh she had a great time. She played hard and humped even". (This is a blatant lie). Again leaving she was anxious, ears pinned, tail tucked and back to super fearful. I reached out to DD and received no reply. We have used the dog park without any incident, as well as another local dog daycare without any issues UPDATE- after reviewing the issues with Jacob, we are even more frustrated by the totally tone deaf reply and lack of concern for our pet's well being. We will continue to encourage our friends and neighbors to seek care elsewhere. read more

I have been working with District Dogs for over one year now, and I don't know what I would do without them. I travel often for work, often for multi-day periods. They have been a reliable and trusted partner to help take care of my cat Lucy when I can't be there. I post this especially so the community knows that they are much more than dog walkers! They change Lucy's litter and feed her, and most importantly, spend some time with her when I am away. They advise me of any notices that have been delivered to my apartment, and also send wonderful status updates and photos so I know that Lucy is doing well. I recommend them highly! read more

I was not impressed with District Dogs. The staff were lovely and helpful, and it's not terribly expensive, but the facilities leave a lot to be desired. The dogs have a fair amount of space but not as much as I'd like. You can purchase an outdoor walk for your dog, but if you don't there isn't really a good place for them to go to the bathroom. The expectation seems to be they will go in the corner of the concrete floor and the. The humans clean up after them. My pup was frantic a few times when I picked him up-- he clearly hadn't gone all day. Since we had just made progress with house training I certainly don't want him to be confused, but even more don't want him to have to wait all day. Not all that much better than if I'd left him home in his crate. read more

I will continue to use District Dogs because they are convenient and safe. However, their prices have gone up and at the same time, the quality of their daily report cards has gone down. This might not seem like a big deal, but the report cards were previously more useful. They have stopped consistently reporting what kind of "business" your dogs did during their stay, and no longer provide useful comments about their day. Instead, there's this weird "daily thoughts" section which literally reads like a fortune cookie and has nothing to do with your pet. The small dogs also seem to be very agitated when I pick mine up at the end of the day. Perhaps they could use a little more attention. read more

Too many dogs in a small space. Counter clerk told us a dog coming in had broken her ribs. While we were there the dog was very aggressive and lunged. The space was way too small for that dog to be there safely. When we picked up they were screaming at the dogs to be quiet. Not enough beds and it was filthy! read more

PLEASE BE AWARE OF DISTRICT DOGS SEE EXPLANATION BELOW: We sent our dog here for a week when we went out of town and expected great care based on our research we did. Plus it had great reviews, but we wouldn't want others to make the same mistake we did. When we came back there were several issues. First, our dog came home with several scratches and cuts on her belly and legs. We sent a email asking about them and were just told they were normal playing dog cuts. Our dog plays at dog parks all the time and has never come home looking like this. Plus we got a "daily" report card (which are completely fake and non-specific to our dog) but none of our report cards mentioned any cuts or scratches. Even if these injuries were normal, you would expect them to be on the report cards. Second, our dog came home with kennel cough. Supposedly people need to have updated medical records to have there dogs admitted, yet this is clearly not the case and a problem here. Third, we loved the idea that there would be webcams we could log into any time we wanted to see our puppy. However, we were shocked that there was a shelf blocking part of the room and that there is an area of the room not in view of the camera. When we asked why we were not able to see our dog in the room for several days (when we had been watching in different parts of the day for extended time periods), we were told the dogs often gather in the part of the room not shown on the camera. Now why would you have a heavily populated part of the room not on camera? We were told that the camera would be moved, so that that part of the room would be shown. It has now been a week since we were told this and the camera remains in the same location. They clearly don't care. Finally, everyone has to have their dog admitted for a minimum for a half day AFTER the "free" evaluation for a further evaluation costing 22$, making it not free at all. Plan and simple District Dogs got our dog injured, sick and lied to us. If at all possible, please avoid this place and make sure you don't end up in the same situation as us! read more

District Dogs had its own spot on my list of potential deal breakers for moving to Arlington. I almost changed my mind. The District Dogs team is exceptional. Jacob, the owner, provides top notch service at reasonable prices. On the two occasions in which I needed emergency walks, he came without hesitation. I was deeply relieved to have one less thing to worry about on a stressful work day. What is more, he provided an adorable post-walk photo of himself and Katie. If you must proceed: Norman was my regular walker for the year I lived by U St. He came to the initial visit to introduce himself although he did not have to. I recognized him as the same bubbly fellow who was often seen running around and playing with other clients' pets in the neighborhood. No sales pitch necessary. For every walk he finished he would leave a personal note on the online portal to let me know how it went (one verbatim: Katie did a number two on our walk today, chastised birds, and ate some of her dinner when we got home. Have a great weekend.) I'd have been satisfied with a simple note but that just wouldn't be Norman. He's phenomenal. I cannot comment on their other services aside from walks. Avi Israel was a wonderful instructor, the classes were a great way to socialize the pups, and even better to train the humans to train the pups. Avi offered lots of great supplemental materials and was so helpful in helping us get all the classes in due to some issues that arose for us that did not allow us to finish the original session we signed up for. I am one of those (dog) mothers who has not left her dog with anyone other than close friends or family so the fact that Jacob has made the list is no small feat. I began using Jacob's services last week and I could not be more pleased. Communication: Jacob sent me pictures of Lucy on her walks and always sent a text when they were done to let me know she was home safe and sound and that she did her business. Punctuality: We have an alarm so I can tell who has entered/exited our home and when. Jacob was always punctual and kept Lucy out for the allotted time requested. Going above and beyond: One morning my husband forgot to leave our dog gate up so I asked him to place the gate for us and he made an extra effort to follow-up with me to verify that it was placed correctly just in case he had to place it again in the future. Payment: Jacob emails us an invoice every week (currently Thursdays) with our balance. You may pay by check, cash or credit card. We opted for credit card payments (got to rack up those travel miles) and the process was very easy. Summary: Jacob is very thoughtful and kind and you can tell he has really pursued his love of animals with the formation of his business. We've been using District Dogs since last fall when we first adopted our dog, Conrad. They've been top notch all along-- sending daily messages about how the walk went, being flexible with schedule changes, dealing with the occasional mess, and simply being reliable in every conceivable way. They've also been so sweet and caring with Conrad, who goes crazy with joy as soon as he hears Paul or one of the other walkers come up the stairs. Clearly we are fans... and we already were before today, when we contacted them to help with a situation in which we needed someone to unlock our condo so a neighbor could access the air conditioning unit. Literally SECONDS after I reached out to see if they could help, I got a text message from Jacob saying he'd be happy to-- and it was resolved within 15 minutes. We're so grateful. District Dogs Training was very understanding when it came to our 8month old puppy Lola. Although she was registered for the puppy classes, she was a bit sick and unfortunately attend all of them. Avi was very understanding and kept checking up on her and when she got better, we switched from group class to one on one class with Avi. I couldn't have been happier with my experience with District Dogs. Jacob was very patient and understanding with our young puppy. I was updated via text after every walk, which is something that I really liked, it made me feel very confident about Jacob as a care taker for our pup. Because he is too young for a long walk, we asked him to do a few extra things with our puppy such as training and playing with him for a little while after his walk. The prices are probably the most reasonable prices in the area. I will certainly be using District Dogs in the future and would recommend them to anyone read more

I cannot thank the staff enough for all of the love and kindness that they shared with us, especially evident when I recently broke my foot. I initially was immobile and couldn't bring my pup in to daycare. District Dogs really went above and beyond to help us out. Connor biked over to help let my dog out from my condo. I was located too far for the team to do regular dog walking, but Stephanie gave lots of closer recommendations for me. When I was able to drive us to daycare, Megan, Brittany, Deon would meet us curbside so that I would not have to get out of the car with my boot and crutches. We LOVE Jacob and Dara at District Dogs. We've had some terrible experiences with other dog walking services and were nervous to find someone new when we moved, but they've been terrific. We love the messages and pictures we get during the day after each walk. We have a 20 month old rescue pitbull, who is a giant love bug with a very real fear of busy crosswalks, who is also very active and social. At 68 lbs, she's all muscle and needs to be walked by someone who is strong enough- and confident enough, to keep her well behaved/ focused and safe. Dara and Jacob do a wonderful job with her, and we can tell from the pictures we get each day our dog is having a great time too! Dara walks our pup every day, sometimes with a friend, which has been great. Our dog as really benefited from spending time with another dog every day. It's clear Dara has a love for animals and takes the extra time to make sure all is well with our puppy. Jacob takes our dog for a second shorter walk twice a week and he's fantastic as well. District Dogs is on the more affordable end of other DC options, it's still not inexpensive. But, it is absolutely worth it, which is more than we can say for the several other dog walking companies and dog walkers we've tried in the past. read more

DD is as good as it gets for daycare in NW. It's a bummer there's no outdoor space (but they do offer walks) and my pup smells terrible after (which is the case at every day care he's been to) but he comes home happy and tired, which is what's most important. Would recommend. read more

Our sheepadoodle puppy Patti did the Puppy Basics course with Avi, and it was fantastic. Really helped us with our training. Patti's behavior has improved dramatically as a result of the class. Avi is incredible - we've ended up signing up for several one-on-one sessions with him and have signed up for the Advanced class as well. After several bad experiences with dog walkers and daycares in DC, I couldn't be happier with District Dogs! They are extremely responsive, reliable, and flexible when I need help with last minute walks. Also, they are very competitive on pricing for the level of service you receive. My walker, Holly, does an excellent job working with my pup and has gone above and beyond with some additional training for her. I can always guarantee she'll be worn out after a walk with District Dogs. I am also thrilled to have the daycare open now. The space is clean and inviting, the rates are competitive, and staff very friendly and helpful. The pet shop is also a nice addition to the neighborhood for food and other pet supply needs. I cannot recommend District Dogs enough -- for both daycare and boarding! My 1.5-year-old sheepadoodle, Albus, went to daycare there a few times a week for more than a year until we moved to California recently. He could not WAIT to get into the playroom when we dropped him off. Every day, he had a blast and came home happy and tired, having burned all of his puppy energy (of which he has A LOT). Here are my top three favorite things about this awesome daycare: 1) Friendly, compassionate staff: Albus is a high-energy, large dog that can be difficult to handle. I hesitate to leave Albus for more than a few hours with friends or family, but I had no problem at all leaving him at District Dogs for a day of daycare or even for a week-long boarding stay when I had to travel. I felt totally comfortable leaving my dog in their care, thanks to the reassuring, responsive, highly competent, and most importantly, genuinely dog-loving staff (especially Chris!). 2) Report cards and webcam: If you're like me, your dog is your child and naturally, you worry about their wellbeing when you're away from them. But District Dogs ensures pup owners know exactly how their dogs are doing during their daycare and boarding stays. At the end of each day, you receive a detailed report card by email that will answer your most pressing questions: What was my dog's day like? Did my dog go #1 and/or #2? Did he eat his food (if you left instructions to feed)? And, of course, who were his favorite playmates?! You also get at least one or two photos from the playroom that day -- proof that your dog had a blast. And if you're extra curious about what your dog is up to at District Dogs, you can check them out during daytime hours on their handy webcam for peace of mind. 3) Easy reservations and online payment: The online reservation system makes it easy to book daycare and boarding in advance or the morning of. They also take walk-ins dependent on daily capacity, which is handy on short notice. Having everything from reservations, the webcam, report cards, and payment all in one handy online portal makes everything a breeze. We were sad to say goodbye to District Dogs when we moved away from DC -- but we can't recommend them enough to anyone in the DC area looking for a trustworthy, fun place for their pup.
