I first heard of District Coffee Co. on Instagram and its endless feed of coffee and lemon meringue pie. District takes on a modern aesthetic and pulls it off nicely. I didn't have the cleanest table but thats the price of the lunch rush. They proudly serve Phil & Sebastian Coffee but I wasn't overly excited about the drink after going coffee snob route and ordering a Gibraltar. Good but not quite to the order of Credo, Elm, and Transcend. Additionally, I managed to snag a Lemon Meringue Pie which was about $4 and slightly larger than a butter tart from Safeway. The crust was buttery, flakey and the filling was sweet, velvety citrus. Overall, I would love to go back to District Coffee Co. for baked goods and coffee whether intravenously or from the mug. read more

This place is amazing. Super close to my house and when I am in the mood for something tasty that isn't Starbucks (which is happening more and more nowadays) this is the first place I go. The layout of the shop is very simple and the staff are all very friendly and laid back. No matter how busy it is, they always seem to keep their cool. The food is great, the coffee is great, it's all great! I love this place! read more

I really like the overall fancy-downtown feel of District since their renovations, and the coffee is still incredible, but the general experience has been a bit of a miss for me the last few times I've gone. My most recent visit, for example, was around 630pm on a weeknight - we expected it to be busy (which it was) but managed to get a table right away. Most of the tables in the restaurant were full, but it seemed like there were only a few staff members working. The waitress didn't stop by our table for over 15 minutes, but when she did she took our drink orders without greeting us or exchanging any friendly conversation. She dropped off our wine for us without a word, and didn't come back for about 15 more minutes to see if we were ready to order. My friend ordered the hand cut pasta of the day, and I ordered the pork rillette. The pasta was tasty (with toasted pumpkin seeds and a buttery pepper sauce), but I didn't love how salty and cold the pork rillette was (although the thyme apple butter was so incredible). Overall, the service wasn't very friendly or timely - we waited over half an hour to order our food - but it wasn't a bad experience necessarily! My suggestion would be to hire more staff! read more

Having tried Elm Cafe last Saturday, and were disappointed, we had high hopes that District would deliver on everything we've heard about! Sadly not. Although I did like what I saw on their menu & their prices, the waffles we had were very dense and chewy, and the side bacon I ordered was so over done it was inedible. I did however like the fruit salad we shared, and the chocolate and caramel dipping sauces for the waffles were yummy. Service was what really disappointed today, no one moved with integrity or purpose, we waited 20 minutes at the table before our breakfast orders were taken, and watched as our two hot drinks sat at the pass for 10 minutes being delivered at Luke warm temperature. They must be doing something right as they are busy, and we've heard such great things, but unfortunately I don't know if we will be returning. read more

I went in without any expectations and was pleasantly surprised at this coffee shop. I love cute bakeries and coffee joints and this one definitely tops the list in Edmonton. I got the London fog which was delicious and a cinnamon bun which was on the dry side. Overall, great atmosphere (but prepared to circle around for paid parking..) read more

The minimalist decor gets a 5/5 from me. It is a beautiful and industrial space. My first time here was very confusing, as I wasn't sure if we were to order at the counter or have a waitress. There were menus but not ones that were currently active, and I was a little overwhelmed by the confusion of ordering. But after you order once or twice, you get the hang of it. It's a favourite spot for my best friend. When we last went, I got a san pellegrino and the mac and cheese. My friend got the duck sandwich and a latte. She said the latte was delicious but was underwhelmed by the sandwhich. She said it was mostly just bread, and was disappointed in the amount of filling for the sandwich. My mac and cheese was good, but was very oily. I felt like I was sweating oil by the end of it. Though the space is beautiful, the food was underwhelming. read more

Acceptable latte, not as hot as I would like. Was a bit grungy but could be it was post lunch. Noisy, needs some sound deadening. Music chooses good. Need some comfortable seats. Will try baked goods next time. read more

Great location, wonderful staff and tasty coffee. Amazing baked goods, which is what I come here for more often over coffee.

This is one of my favorite breakfast joints these days. Very funky, the decor is bright and airy and the breakfasts are unreal! I had a chicken pot pie one morning and it was amazing! They also have a highly impressive bakery on site too. I'd like to try out their evening scene to see what it's like. read more

Don't have breakfast at this place during the weekdays. Not impressed. The menu is much smaller and the service is not great.I had been on the weekend once and it was great. So we came during the week even though parking costed $14, I said it was worth it. I was wrong. We ordered food and my friends food order arrived first. So we waited about 10 minutes for mine and noticed that my plate was ready and sitting on the counter. We finally just grabbed the plate ourselves. Later, a young lady, who was the manager came over to our table. I explained what happened and she said she was busy with people ordering at the coffee area, so that's why my plate didn't get brought over. No apology... I told her that someone should be taking care of the tables. Nobody came by to check on the food quality or for coffee refills either. We did get a $10 gift card (still no apology), but the breakfast was ruined and so we didn't really care about the gift certificate. Disappointing... More staff needed during the weekdays. read more

Great product, but mediocre service and quite expensive. Also awkwardly setup so when there's a wait for whatever you ordered, it can be awkward to stay out of the way of people getting sugar/cream etc. Generally well liked, but the price and sometimes questionable service only make it a once in a while treat rather than a regular go to coffee/snack place. Also the hours on a Saturday morning aren't fantastic. read more

Love this coffee shop! Its so bright and energetic and the staff are so lovely & non pretentious. Its becoming a new Saturday ritual to mosey down to district before the 104 street farmers market. They also have several vegan options for food which is great. I had to take one star off because they only have almond milk as a replacement for dairy which I find can curdle & be bitter but other then that, this place is perfect. read more

I really love this place, their coffee, location, and the atmosphere in the cafe are all amazing! Lots of sun and windows. BUT, I have just found that their service and their food is such a hit and a miss! I've been there twice with bad service, I understand that it gets busy at brunch time, so that's excusable, the cafe's fault probably and not the individual servers. The food though. So much potential! But not quite there yet. Last time I was there three people at our table got the waffle eggs Benedict, and the waffles in ALL THREE were rock hard. Like they were the consistency of a ladyfinger cookie and just completely crumbled when you cut into them. Unfortunately our server didn't come back until we were finished so we couldn't even complain/ask why they were like that and we were starving so we ate it anyways. It's annoying especially cause their waggle eggs Benedict is definitely overpriced. That being said, their breakfast sandwich is very good, and although a bit expensive worth it for the occasional treat. read more

I had stopped in for happy hour a few weeks ago and was really happy with the vibe. Great way to finish a work day and get out of the rain. I wanted to try the brunch since I had heard good things, so I went with my wife Saturday and had a wonderful time. The service was fantastic and the food was impeccable. The banana bread French toast was incredibly soft and tasty, and my wife had the breakfast sandwich which was also very good. Definitely a great place to go in the heart of downtown! read more

Friendly serious coffee spot where it's needed. Great atmosphere. Delicious espresso drinks, some coffee nerd equipment for sale and excellent baked goods (and a couple of lunch items). Just wish they were open weekends! read more

Great food, atmosphere, and the barista is a babe. I could just go to look at him all day. But, seriously try the breakfast bowl. Parking is a B if you're not walking distance. read more

This place has its own vibe. Walking by the front, you think it's a business or part of the apartment building it is connected too. Instead it's a unique local Cafe that makes you feel like you are in San Diego. It's a young well- respected place. Sure the service isn't always great but it's cozy and well run. Prices are high but I assume that's the price you pay for a local business. read more

Excellent coffee, great selection of breakfast food, combined with friendly staff and a convenient downtown location.

I have visited this place twice after their renovation and unfortunately, they were both far from pleasant. The service is incredibly slow although it was not during their busy hours. The waitress just asked what drinks rather than water she can het us and never checked back again to actually get our orders ! Also, it seems they are always confused about which order goes to which table. They put one specific order on three different tables knowing that it was not the right one each time. Aside from all these, the quality of baked goods is horrible. The first visit, I ordered an apple pie and found a piece of thick black hair in it! How gross! They changed it afterwards, but to be honest it was far from a decent quality apple pie. Too much shortening in the crust instead of butter !!! During the second visit, we got a brownie. It was super dry and way too much sweet. Tasted nothing like a brownie. To me, it seemed like one of those no bake chocolate bars that are packed with sugar and some sort of flour. Such a total disappointment. read more

A friend of mine raved about this District Cafe & Bakery.. so we decided to try it out. There were 3 women behind the counter, all were abrupt and quite rude. We both ordered a cinnamon bun and macchiato. The cinnamon bun was fine, but the coffee was quite disgusting and very very small. For the price and size, you would expect it to be amazing! I am quite displeased with customer service and product. I will be walking by this place every day, and needless to say, I will not be stopping by again. read more

I've been here a few times as there is always government training in the building and there is little else close by. I've walked out more than once for a number of different reasons. #1. The staff are not friendly. It's like we're annoying them by asking questions about the food or coffee, and we were greeted with eye rolls when we asked if they make iced coffee. #2. The prices. The first time, I was prepared to order the orzo salad to go which looked tasty, but I left without ordering anything when the server told me it was $12 for literally 1/2 cup or orzo on a bed of greens. Today I asked how much it was for a piece of chocolate cake. $9. Nine dollars!!!!! To which I responded by ordering a couple croissants (also overpriced), and I asked if customers really willingly pay those outrageous prices. Apparently they are. #3 Weird/gross flavour combinations. Their sub sandwiches would be delicious if they just stuck with normal. Marmalade and ham does not go, sorry. I took one bite and threw it out. All in all, decent cookies and croissants if you're willing to pay the price, but it's really just a pretentious, hipster joint where people buy mediocre, overpriced goods on credit cards just to look cool. ollies has better baked goods, better coffee and much better value. read more

The food is absolutely amazing and the coffee is also very good. The service however is awful. I go to District fairly often as its close to my office and two thing I can count on every time. The food will be great and the service will suck. If the food wasn't as good as it is I wouldn't bother with this place. So if you're looking for a great meal check them out but keep your expectations for service low. read more

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! Girl at the counter taking orders has some real attitude. This girl yelled at me in front of a lot of people, "Do not reach over the counter!", when I was only grabbing forks to go (not knowing she had already put utensils in our to-go box). Let me also point out that the utensils are NOT behind the counter and I am clearly not contaminating any food items. They were sitting on top of the bar. There is no need for this kind of attitude in the food industry business. There are lots of other cafes in Edmonton where you are treated kindly and service is delivered with a smile. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

I went here with a friend for brunch one morning. I would say there are definitely other places were you get better food for a better price, for sure. My food was OK, but I had ordered a coffee, which was FULL of coffee grinds. I don't mean one or two; it was literally swimming with coffee grinds. When I pointed it out to the waiter, he replied, "Well, I can get you a new one, but I have to charge you for it." WHAT? He should have brought a new one and taken it off my bill completely. It was almost $4 for just a plain coffee alone! So, that was my first (and only) time there, and I won't be going back. Hope that was worth the $4 to them. read more

Often the go-to meeting spot with friends. Always busy but when you get a table the food and drinks make up for it!

I've been here a couple of times for brunch. Service was slow. The food is good, but overpriced considering the small portions. My breakfast bowl @ $14 had only a few roasted potatoes and one poached egg. Since I was still hungry I ordered toast and jam. That cost $5, which the waiter neglected to advise me before ordering. read more

Awesome spot, same great service and coffee as Elm Cafe (their sister store). I come here nearly everyday for a pick-me-up and some sustenance. Love it. read more

Crazy good baked goods and sandwiches but I am pretty sure you could take paint off your car with the espresso its so acidic.

The coffee is really good and most of the staff were really nice however I went there to do a bit of work and found the music really loud and the wifi connection wasn't working so I ended up leaving and going somewhere else after one espresso. read more

Tried their coffee for the first time last week. What a nice surprise. The latte I had was excellent. The flavour was incredible and was not bitter at all. I will definitely be back for coffee here as the latte was actually better than the one I usually get at the Starbucks down the street. Pastries looked delicious as well, will be trying them next time. read more

I've only tried the tea, cookies, and muffins; but all were very tasty and fresh. Fairly quick service.

An almond milk latte would have cost around $7 and add some flavor to it and it would increase the price another $1.25. Paying more than $8 for a flavored latte seems a bit extreme, no matter how good the coffee might be... read more

3pm on Wednesday thought might be fun to try the highly rated district coffee since the reviews are strong I went for it. Tough to find parking, once inside the design was well done simple and modern. Much larger than It looks from the street i waited in a short very slowly moving line which is not big deal But needed my cafine fix. got to the front and the cashier informed me that if I want coffee to stay I had to get table service, that was new but alright, so I stood aside and waited for for a table to open up which was longer than I had hoped, but not to bad. I sat down roughly another 10 minutes goes by and no server. I got up and stood back in line. So I have now been here just shy of half hour to finally order a coffee not get my coffee, but to just place my order! which was suppose to be a to go but I just went and sat back down. Drank about half before I finally had a server greet me. Not overly impressed with the service. Frustrating and unorganized. Place is nice coffee was alright not game changing. read more

I created this account to write this review specifically. I don't think I have have had a worse experience at any form of eatery in 4 years (including my experience at Tim Hortons while traveling or in a pinch). I had the duck sandwich. Being a chef and seeing duck confit on a menu is nice to see especially in Edmonton. Adding the aioli, cranberries and greens should have been a fairly exceptional takeaway. Unfortunately to my dislike/distaste, the duck was hard as jerky (should fall apart and be loaded with flavour, not the case here) with a merger portion sizing, the cranberries should have been in the form of a compote instead of the served bits from a bulk bin from the supermarket, the aioli was not seasoned and the bread(stick) tasted like cardboard. All in all, I will never go to this pretentious place again as the hipster atmosphere is not warm and inviting. They may have decent coffee however I would not force that garbage they call food on anyone. read more
