On a quick day trip on a Friday afternoon, we decided to give this place a try. No reservation and were promptly greeted and seated. Although we did not have a full bay view, we had a partial bay view. Some hits and misses with food and service. 1. Bowl of Clam Chowder (no bread bowls available). Chowder was piping hot and had nice pieces of clams (dad got a bit of clam shell..so be careful), celery and potatoes. The chowder was very creamy and not grainy or watery like other locations. I would definitely order again 5/5 2. Fish & Chips: Fresh Pacific cod, lightly breaded, served with house-made tartar sauce. Fish was fried to perfection. 5/5 3. Seafood Pasta: Linguini with jumbo prawns, fresh catch, Cajun cream sauce, garlic bread. Everything tasted fresh and seasoned perfectly 5/5 4. Side of Garlic bread: extremely disappointing. We ordered garlic bread with our chowder, it never came. Waitress decided to serve it with the mains (fish and chips) and we ordered for the entire table and she only brought 2 pieces. 5. Insalata Molina: Mixed greens, arugula, pear, walnuts, crumbled blue cheese, mango vinaigrette. Couldn't tell you if this was any good bc the waitress NEVER brought but charged us for it. She then takes it off the bill and brings me the salad in a Styrofoam container. I told her I didn't want it and put it in my bag. Salad was so soggy (which means the kitchen prepared it and the waitress forgot to serve it) I would not order and do not recommend ordering it bc it was the size of a side salad definitely not worth the price point. 6. Mocktail Lavender lemonade: definitely not balanced, was pretty tart and again the price point was off. It was about 8oz lemonade for $12 They do offer a nice selection of wines. Restrooms are located outside the restaurant and are public restrooms, pretty dirty and out of stock. Although our service was a big miss, I do recommend the food items we ordered. I did take a star off due to the service.

Salmon isn't exactly a local fish, but it's usually a safe bet, especially when it's fresh frozen. I got the salmon tacos, which came as two tacos on two tortillas. The salmon was topped with a little cabbage and tomato, melted cheese, and what seemed to be some onion and cilantro. They also included a small serving of salsa. Overall, they were decent, but not the best salmon tacos I've had. One thing that was a little annoying was that some of the salmon had the dark "bloodline" still attached. I usually scrape that off because I find that part of the fish more bitter and strongly flavored. That's especially awkward with tacos because you're trying to remove it from pieces of fish that are already in the taco. I've had salmon tacos elsewhere where that part had been trimmed off, so there was nothing to deal with. No bones, though. The tacos were a little pricey at just over $20 with tax, but you're in a tourist area and it's California, so that wasn't exactly surprising. They made for a decent meal, and sitting outside was pleasant.

My husband and I recently dined in at Distasio's, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. We were the only customers dining in at the time, yet from the moment we were seated, we felt rushed. The waitress gave us menus, but before I could even finish ordering, she cut me off and turned to ask my husband what he wanted. The food came out quickly, which was appreciated, and overall it was decent. However, the Boston clam chowder was very watery and not enjoyable. Throughout the meal, the waitress kept coming back repeatedly, asking how everything was, which felt excessive and made us uncomfortable rather than attended to. When we asked for a dessert menu, I inquired about the spumoni ice cream. She hesitated while explaining it but said it was "the best they had." Within a minute, she brought it out. Again, while we were still eating, she kept coming back, checking on us, then quickly brought the check as if trying to rush us out. The most upsetting part of the experience happened at the end. While we were still finishing dessert, she took the receipt from us without really asking and said, "I hope you don't mind, I'll take that." As she walked away, she loudly said "WOW" and threw the tray down. The music even stopped afterward, and the whole moment made us feel extremely unwelcome and uncomfortable. Despite the service, my husband still chose to leave a tip out of kindness, but the overall experience was poor. If you don't enjoy working in customer service, it truly shows, and unfortunately, it affects your customers. read more

I'm not sure where to start. Was just passing thru and wanted some dinner before heading back to LA. The hostess sat us right away, right next to the kitchen door. We had to ask for water and napkins. The place was last decorated in the 1970's and hasn't been updated or even refreshed since. There is a distinctive odor present. The menu was unimpressive and the water looked like he hadn't bathed in weeks, so I choose the pasta with a red sauce and sausages. Food came quickly, was warm at best and was served on plastic plates, like the ones you get in your high school cafeteria. The sauce was one step below Ragu, and the brought me meatballs, I think I asked for sausage, but at this point. I just wanted to eat and leave. The topper was as I was leaving, and walking with my minor child, I bumped into a staffer and he stared me down like he wanted to start a fight... he even said "what's up?" very provocatively, WTF? Recently I arranged a holiday party for my Cuesta swim class. There were 25 people and Mark, owner/chef, graciously accommodated our party. The food was delicious, as usual, and it was met with many compliments for the chef. I like the fact that Distasio's will accommodate a small party or huge party with no problem. I did make a reservation for this large party and made a menu (from the huge selection presented to us) to pre-order our food, just to make it easier on everyone. Mark also accommodated us with separate checks as requested by my group. Many restaurants want to charge a large party when they have a view of the bay, but not Distasio's. This was my first visit to DiStasio's. A very relaxed and home atmosphere. No attitude, just great food. I had the lasagna (my baseline for a new Italian restaurant. It was delicious. we were brought bread which was light and flavorful. The pasta was done perfectly and the marinara was on point. Wine and beer only. An impressive list of Italian and California wine. I had one of my favorite Chiantis which was the perfect pairing. The service was great. Friendly, timely, and professional. The owner made a table stop that I and my companion appreciated. He spent quite a bit of time with us and was quite affable. If you are in Morro Bay definitely make a stop here. read more

Perusing the menu, I had my heart set on the fish and chips. But the waitress told me they were out. Minus one star for that. I ordered a calzone because I wasn't feeling like pizza or pasta either. Compliments, compliments. unfortunately was Di Stasio's at the bay the last of 3 restaurants we visited in Morro on the Bay. It was by far the best, better than Windows on the Water and Of the hook that had both good references. Di Statio's excelled in food, the service ánd the price. For 100 dollar we had a complete menu, a bottle of wine and coffee. The others costed 130 dollars or more for only 2 courses. My wife and I, along with another couple, were visiting Morro Bay from NY and came upon this wonderful restaurant. We each had different meals and we were all impressed with our meals. The service was outstanding. Our server was friendly, prompt, and professional. As we were finishing our meal,the owner came over to ask us about our experience. Great place. I was told it had truly authentic Italian food and it does. Many fine entrees plus steak and fish- all done perfectly (I've been there three times with friends- all agree). Good wine list. Great view. Service was as good as the food. Everyone pleasant and attentive. I would say that this place is ok. But the best thing it has going for it is that it is on the water. The food is bland and staff alright. This has a view but not much else. If you are looking for fantastic Italian go right up the street to "Giancarlos". It's got a brick oven and the chef was born and raised in Italy. Just check out their reviews. read more

We found a table downstairs in the bar as far away from the band as possible. We couldn't even hear each other to talk- other groups were saying the same thing We ordered the calamari appetizer and then the fish and chips for my husband and the seared ahi with wasabi mashed potatoes for me. Everything came out all at once- and no one ever came to check on us. The fish and chips were good, my ahi was nice- but the potatoes were cold and it was covered in seaweed salad I had to pick off. Later I was trying to remember why I ordered the ahi over the halibut or the mahi mahi- looking at the menu it says the ahi has blue crab wasabi mashed potatoes- so that's why I ordered it. I had shared my meal with my hubby and so I asked him if he noticed/tasted any crab on the potatoes. Neither of us did- thinking they left it out. The calamari should have been the appetizer- but everything came all at once- I would rather have skipped them at that point. Hubby had to go up to the bar to get refills- he was gone a long time. When he came back he told me that they had him leave a credit card with them when he placed the order. We weren't drinking alcohol, so this didn't seem necessary. Had I known this, I would have suggested not even staying and finding a different restaurant. Well the bartender said he lost our credit card/ but would try to find it.... um, what!!!! They did finally find it about 20 minutes later. No apologies or anything other than dumping the check at the end of the table. So far, we haven't found any rando charges on our card from our dinner here... but watch your cards here We walked from our hotel- so we didn't have to deal with parking- but it would have been hard over the holiday weekend We did have a nice view of the beach- even better view from upstairs

Great sense of humor, and great conversation along with superior recommendations. WARNING: The side dishes are massive. Not a bad thing but if you are two people, stick to one side dish and that is the whipped potatoes. It is the signature side dish and after one bit you will know why. We started off with a beet salad that was exquisitely presented. Fresh, crisp and almost a palate cleanser, this is a great way to start your meal. Because we are no longer big eaters, we saw the Wagyu flat iron steak on the menu and if you've never had a flat iron steak, this is definitely the go to. Skip the other cuts and try the flat iron. Thank me later. We had not mentioned how we wanted the flat iron cooked, and I realized as it was coming out that it's done. This may not have been to my liking because flat iron should be cooked a perfect medium rare. This was cooked perfectly and seasoned with the perfect amount of salt finish. You get four sauces to try that are included with your steak but I think sauces distracts from the beef flavor and when paying for this quality of flat iron steak, I want that pure beef flavor in every bite. We had the whipped potatoes which are not the typical whipped potatoes. Trust me. We also had the honey glazed whole fresh carrots that were amazing. The portions were so large we had another complete meal from the side left overs the next day. We stayed at the hotel where the restaurant is located which is fantastic. Eat, drink, and stroll up to the room for a food coma nap! This should be on your do not miss eating list in SLO. 5 stars
