I made arrangements with Ken, the owner of Distasio's, for a small wedding party inside the restaurant. Ken was easy to work with and answered all my questions. The restaurant has an elegant feel and the hostesses made sure the tables were set up exactly as we wanted them. We chose to have vegetarian lasagne for the dinner, and it was delicious! First off. I call to see if I can make a reservation. They said only for a party of 6 or more. Okay. We come to the restaurant and the first thing they ask for how many, I said 2 and they asked if I had a reservation? Second. The service here is S.L.O.W. My wife and Daughter are both vegetarians so along with my Daughters Boyfriend non vegetarian I had a chance to see a sampling of the menus selections. Firstly, they could put a bit of effort into warming the bread, a little crunch would be nice. Otherwise the Vegetarian Marinara was light to complement the mushroom Ravioli. Nice texture and taste. The view was nice. Our server Nicole was a sweet heart and made sure we were taken care of. Unfortunately, that did not make the meal. The food was very disappointing. The bread, though warm, was a cheap sour dough knock off , which should have been a traditional baguette. The Ceasar Salad was wilted Romain lettuce that lacked any crispness and was drowning in dressing. My husband ordered the Half and Half that really was 3/4 spaghetti and 1/4 frozen raviolies. We always enjoy our dinner here. Last night we had one of the specials, penne pasta and chicken in vodka sauce. Flavors were terrific. Service was very good with attentive, friendly service from the waitress, bus staff and visit from the owner to insure everything was satisfactory. Facilities are new as they moved to this location in the last year or 2. Everything is clean and we'll maintained with ample on street parking in addition to a parking lot in the rear. read more

The calzone was soooo yummy the Crust was perfect and it was stuffed full it was delicious & flavorful Then the manicotti and was very flavorful and I loved how I had both red and white sauce mixed added a new flare! I was so eager to have my "birthday eve" dinner here tonight. We arrived and the place was empty, not a bad thing. Having only 3 tables occupied you would think the food and service would have been better. My Halibut had so much Rosemary it was all I could taste the rest of the meal. An hour later and I still taste Rosemary. I let our waitress know and she just shrugged it off. My friend got the Eggplant Parmesan and the cheese was so overcooked that you couldn't cut it with a knife. The marinara sauce was overly salty as well. Again we let our waitress know and she shrugged it off. One of the other tables had similar issues with their meal, undercooked seafood of some sort. The lady got upset and caused somewhat of a scene with the cook and waitress. I feel they handled that particular situation perfectly (hint: that's the reason for one of the stars I rated them). The restaurant was clean and tidy which is to be expected when you have only a handful of patrons (hint: there's the other star). Sadly it will be a long while if I ever that I return. If you are looking for ok, overpriced Italian food then come here. Maybe it was just an off day, but it left a bad taste in my mouth, literally I still only taste Rosemary! I feel had they addressed our issues with our meal they could have redeemed a few stars. Hopefully they can get it together, I loved this place when they were actually on the Bay. read more

It's not very often I get to enjoy Italian food since I have Celiac. Their gluten free menu is fabulous and the food was delicious. My husband and I shared a gluten free pizza and gluten free pasta dish and he loved both! The service was great and the owner even came out to check on us. Very friendly and the atmosphere was updated but cozy. I highly recommend this place. Family friendly as well. read more

We had wonderful service here and the food was great! We are from Boston and were driving the PCH, and were lucky enough to find out that the owner of this place is a Boston native! We were Very disappointed in our food. We got the cappellini and three orders for the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. The chicken was dry the Alfredo sauce was unremarkable. And they gave all of small portion of bread to go with our take-out meal. Very disappointed will never eat here again read more

This place really sucks! The eggplant parmesan did not even look appetizing and tasted even worse. No sauce on it at all, just 3 little pieces of eggplant in a nasty crust. The side of spaghetti had bitter garlic. My husband ordered shrimp scampi in noodles with vegies...no flavor, very little shrimp. There was no scampi about it!. The bread they serve was not very good, dry. Very expensive for what you get. We can here other customers talk about their disappointment in the food and price. The waitress never asked us how our food was. If she would of asked...well, we will never come back. And we will tell our friends not to eat here! Came here because the views looked nice, it was walking distance from our hotel and the prices seemed fair. We sat at the bar instead of the dining room which was full of families. The bar area was very pretty and had a nice fireplace which was really romantic. You couldn't see much in terms of the view because the sun had already gone down but during sunset it must be really pretty. We ordered the bruscetta to start. It was ok. It was hot and crispy but there wasn't any garlic or basil like it said on the menu. Just buttered bread with hot roasted tomatoes. Eh. I'd pass next time. I got the butternut squash for my entree and my husband got cannelloni (one with meat and one with just ricotta). My entree was very large. It took me awhile to finish it. The flavor was good but I've had better. I don't think they made it from scratch. My husbands entree was ok. I liked the cannelloni with just the cheese not the one with the meat. For what you get, you get large portions but it isn't memorable food. Not bad just ok. I'm assuming you are more paying for the rent on the restaurant than the food. I might go back for happy hour because the bar is really beautiful but not sure if I'd have dinner here again. read more

Last night my wife and I had dinner at Distasio's On The Bay. The service was excellent and the food and wine were superb. My wife had shrimp scampi over linguine and I had spaghetti and meat sauce. Both meals were great and we shall be returning often. We both love great Italian food - it is to be celebrated when you find it. read more

Was really looking forward to some great Italian food. Showed up and asked for an order to go. I ordered lasagna and my fiancée ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The hostess told us it would be about 15 minutes. It took 25. When we returned to our hotel room with the food, we found one fork, two spoons, no knives and no napkins. The food was bland, lukewarm and disappointing. We will not be saving the leftovers for another day. Good thing we stopped in paso for some nice wine to have with dinner. No way to run a business! Showed up about 10 minutes after posted opening at 4:00 pm. Placed was locked so we called and asked if they were open. Woman who answered said "yes". I said we were out front and placed was still locked. She replied "well, we still have things to do." There was no offer to open the doors and let us inside. We've been enjoying the food at Distasio's for several years now. My favorite is the Italian Platter, one Manicotti and one Cannelloni, with you choice of sauces. The house salad with Italian dressing is always fresh and crisp. Steaks are cooked to order and quite good. The baked potato is wonderfully crisp on the outside, split in half and browned to perfection on the surface. The staff is friendly and eager to please! read more

Wish I had looked at reviews before going here. If you want a beautiful view of the bay and the rock, this is it. If you love Italian food and good service....I is not the place. When last Tuesday evening at about 7:00, it took 10 minutes to get someone to notice my family of 5 standing at the reception desk. Seems the Hostess had gone to the bathroom, and no one was covering. We were seated right at the window, which was really nice. I wanted to get the Eggplant Parmesan, but instead of the side of spaghetti, I asked for some vegetables. Wow, was that a mistake. Seems like no one has ever asked for what the wanted before. They did figure out how to do this, and it took a while, but I finally got my meal. The issue was that because my order was SO hard, they forgot to enter my husbands meal. REALLY? We all started, and 10 minutes later they brought the tasteless and over cooked Chicken Parmesan for my husband. Lots of pepper and cheese and it was barely eatable. Don't go here for good food, go for the view. read more

Ate here on a Friday Night. This is their new location which is up the hill from their old location. They have been open at this new location only for a few weeks. We were in a party of 7 and we arrived Very Early for dinner. We were seated at a corner table with a full view out the windows. Let me say...this is the BEST view for a Restaurant in Morro Bay, hands down. The building has been used for a restaurant before (Breakers, Flying Tiger, Bennigans) but has been sitting empty for years. It is good to see it back open if just for the views. The construction was not quite finished but it was cleaned up well enough for us to get the "feel" of the space. We loved the decor, did I say the views, and the openness of the overall place. The service...our waitress was a young lady that took very good care of us. She was there when she should have been, gone when she should have been, the water glasses were kept full and the coffee cups never went empty. The orders were taken after we had been given time to study the menus and order beverages. I noticed here that others were hard on them about the bread. Well, they are still working on that in the new location. Tonight we were served a fairly bland Ciabatta with butter. Olive Oil was on the table and after a few minutes, a small pitcher of Balsamic Vinegar showed up. Well done! That made the bread at least edible. They still need to work on the bread! About this time, Marc, the owner, came out and had a very nice conversation with us. He went through the trials of opening at a new location with a new menu and enlarging the staff when the restaurant was already known in the area. He described moving the Brick Oven from another location to this one and the rest of the experience of opening this location as well as closing his other two locations. He also gave us the "Dream Tour" of who he would like in the rest of the building. It all sounded very good if it happens. Then the food arrived. Each plate was just what was expected as it had been ordered-Three plates from the Vegetarian selections (Eggplant Parm, Sundried Tomato with Smoked Cheese Raviolis and Rigatoni with Artichoke, Feta Cheese and Garlic Alfredo Sauce) Three Seafood plates, and one off-the-menu "My Regular" pasta and meatball order from one of the closed restaurants old menus. Nothing really "off-the-chart" but good food served timely and at the correct temperature. A new incarnation of an older restaurant with an experienced kitchen staff doing what it should after only three weeks. Well Done! Foodies, Beware. This is not a cutting-edge restaurant with a menu done by Mario Batali. This is a good red-sauce-on-pasta Italian Restaurant. The food is good, portion size is generous and the service, for a tourist city, is above average. Did I mention the View of the Bay is incredible. We will go back and explore more of the menu. Wood Fired Brick Oven Pizza is listed on the Menu. That will be next to try. read more

Was seated promptly with great view of the rock- like Dorn's but being somewhat of novice local I need more. Order was taken fairly quickly. The a guy at the adjacent table (from food mecca Albuquerque) looked frustrated and returned his overcooked Tortellini. The manager came out and apologized saying he's training a new cook and should have never let out such overcooked pasta. He offered him a free tortellini dish next time as the man now got meatballs and spaghetti. While this is going about (20 minutes) on I'm at my table with nothing but water. I ask another server as I can't find mine anywhere if this place puts bread on the table. To which she apologized and brought out some microwaved undercooked white baguette looking thing you see at Spencer's or Albertson's. By the 30 minute mark not food arrived not even the simple appetizer's. The whole experience was so frustrating and disappointing that I left without getting any food. read more

One of the worst meals I have ever had. Ordered the Chicken Marsala and it tasted like a pound of sugar had been dumped on it. The Bruschetta was so sour it was hard to eat. There was no problem with the staff. Very friendly. View was awesome. The food on the other hand needs help. As an Italian it is very hard for me to eat in an Italian restaurant. Would never eat there again. Had the Veal with a disgusting red sauce that I guess was supposed to be Italian but you could not tell it by me. It was watery with no taste but a burnt smell which could have come from the heavy breading on the tough over done veal cutlet. A couple of spoonfuls of noodles and cost 21 dollars. No salad but good bread and a good glass of wine were the only thing worth eating. Will never go again and will tell others visiting the area to avoid. No wonder two couples leaving there advised me not to waste my time. I thought they were joking but the joke was on me. read more

Nice wine bar. Nice view of the bay and the rock. That being said, we were not at all impressed with the food. The portions were super skimpy in comparison to the price. As for taste, both times we ate here, our pasta dishes were barely "meh," almost bordering on blahhhh. The seafood portions were so small that we needed microscopes. I'm so glad that I read the reviews on DiStasio's Ristorante before going there tonight. My expectations were really low. Earlier in the evening we had walked by it and loved the setting. The restaurant was closed but through the windows we could see small tables with a very intimate looking atmosphere. We made reservations and asked for a table for two by the window. When we arrived, our table was the only one available (out of four) by the window, and when we sat there, the waiter came to verify that we were the ones that reserved it. The waiters were two very nice kids in their early twenties. They seemed completely lost and my wife and I made bets on how screwed up our order would be. Shortly after we ordered, our wine and warm bread arrived. The wine wasn't disappointing, the bread was awful!!! Note to the owner, almost everyone I know comments on the quality of the bread at a restaurant, serve a nice hot sourdough and I guarantee you'll get better ratings. Anyway, we ordered the Grilled Salmon, and asked for Asparagus and Baked Baby Potatoes. The food was cooked to perfection! The salmon was fresh and moist, the asparagus were green and firm, and the potatoes were delicious as well. There was also some magic going on. By the time the evening was over, we were exchanging email addresses with the people at two other tables (a couple from OR and a couple from PA). So, to sum it up, one of the best dinners we've had on this trip and one of the least expensive. We'll be back!! read more

DiStacio's has consolidated its two restaurants into one location. We went for the first time shortly after they opened and had a wonderful time. The wait staff is super friendly. The owner came to speak with us. And the view of the bay and the overall ambiance was lovely and romantic. Great place to celebrate our anniversary. Food was great too. Pretty pleased with our experience of trying something new. We had to wait about 20 minutes for seating as when we called earlier that day, they were only taking walk ins for dinner. The wait wasn't much of a bother because we sat in the wine bar area and had a glass of wine while we waited. In hindsight, we could have just eaten in there since they offer the full menu, but being a "romantic night out" we opted to sit at an actual table. Nicole was very helpful and knowlegable of the menu, although she disappeared for a little longer than we hoped inbetween. My husband and I both ordered one of the two specials and we're content with the portions and taste of the meal. The best thing about the place was the view of Morro Rock. We waited 20 minutes for a table even though there were 2 empty tables by the window when we arrived.
