Highly recommend! I found Jessica through other yelpers and I would recommend her highly for any occasion. She did my makeup for my wedding in the morning around 8AM and the makeup stayed flawless until I removed it before bed around midnight. I loved my look. She's also very patient with people who aren't used to having their makeup done. Her studio was a great vibe and she played awesome music. It was a great setting to get ready for a fancy party. For special events, I get my hair and makeup done because I want those forever moments to look fabulous. Unfortunately for me, I've had to retouch my own makeup in the past, or have had to ask someone to help me with my hair because it didn't come out just right. Luckily, this was not the case with Jessica. It felt amazing to have my husband open the door and look at me with mouth agape and wide eyes. Jessica is a "Glam Goddess!!!" I'm a TV news anchor and host in Los Angeles... a place that is extremely critical and rather merciless when it comes to judging women's looks. But every time I'm fortunate to have Jessica do my hair and makeup, I look and feel like a million bucks! What's very special about her skillset is that she really takes time to assess your particular features to give you a look that emphasizes your best features. She explains why she's using this makeup technique on my eyes or cheeks rather than another, points out the best colors for me, and shows me how to accentuate or minimize every part of my face. And she's not just brilliant with makeup. She is just as masterful with hair! A perfect example is that I'm always complaining about my fine, limp hair. For almost 10 years I've styled my hair straight or slightly wavy. But after seeing a random picture of me with curls, she began doing a gorgeous curly style on me. There were many signs that should have told me not to hire Jessica, but regretfully, I did it anyway and didn't back out. There were so many, I really don't know where to start, but I'll hit a few. First, it took her forever to return my initial call, at least 2 weeks later, but she said she was out of town, so I didn't think anything of it. Then, I had a few questions about her contract, because it was so one-sided, of course, in her favor, and I got the impression she was desperately in need of money and that was her complete motivation and focus, and not my needs and satisfaction. I should have backed out at that point, but I went through with hiring her, because although it took her a long time to call me back, at least she called back. I had left a few messages with makeup artists that weren't returned, so she wasn't the only one. Then she got the time of my appointment for my makeup trial run wrong, but it was ok, because the person doing the trial run for my hair finished up really early, so it actually worked out in my favor and I didnt have to kill time between the appointments. During the appointment, Jessica was surprisingly very friendly, because she seemed pushy during our phone conversations. But, when she showed me the mirror, I was sooo disappointed, but I thought it was just that I wasn't used to seeing myself with heavy makeup on. I wanted makeup to make me look beautiful, by enhancing my natural beauty, but I felt I looked like a clown. She said the makeup was really heavy so that it could be picked up in the wedding pictures and told me to keep it on the rest of the day so that I could get use to it, and let her know what I thought later. Well, when I go home, my fiance absolutely hated it. He said it was just caked on way too much and I didn't look like myself. When I spoke to Jessica later and asked her if she could use less makeup for the wedding, she again seemed friendly and had no problem with my request. On my wedding day, Jessica really showed how unprofessional she is. She showed up 3 hours before our scheduled appointment, without calling first, stating she didn't check her appointment book and forgot she had another scheduled appointment she needed to get to. She then kept sending people to rush me to come out so that she could do my makeup. Well, it was my wedding day, and I had other things scheduled that couldn't be changed, but she couldn't understand that. I told my mother to let Jessica do her makeup in my place so that she could get to her next appointment. Then the next problem was that she said she needed a certain type and height table to set-up her makeup. Why didn't she let me know that ahead of time? No one had time to run around looking for a table for her. Then she added that the person she had doing my hair was also going to need a table to set-up. Luckily, he arrived prepared with all his needed equipment for the job, including his own portable table. Wow! How professional. 2 of the bridesmaids backed out and didn't want Jessica to do their makeup, which meant they would have lost their deposits, which is the purpose of the deposits being paid. But, Jessica insisted she needed to be paid in full, so I paid her the balance of what they owed her, because I didn't think it was right for them to back out, plus, I just wanted to get rid of her, because I had so many other things to deal with. (In actuality, she was even overpaid, because I didn't have time to verify what she said she was owed.) I later found out that they backed out, because she was having a breakdown in front of them, slamming things around while she was setting up. They didn't tell me at the time, because they didn't want to upset me on my wedding day. I never would have paid her, if I had known she was acting that way in front of my family and friends, making them feel uncomfortable. To top it off, I later got a call from the guy she had do my hair, asking me for payment, and had to explain to him that I had a contract with Jessica for makeup and hair. If she hired him to do my hair, that was between him and Jessica and he'd have to get with her. Whether or not she ever paid him, I don't know, but due to her unprofessionalism, greed, disorganization and poor attitude displayed during our business with each other, I have a good idea. Caveat emptor. She is the only damper and bad memory of my wedding day. read more

Jessica was so wonderful. She was on time and was on schedule, which are two very important things to a bride on her big day. We started the day at 5am. She drove from Long Beach to my house in Rowland Heights. I had decided not to do a test session but I am over the moon with the outcome. My hair stayed PUT all day with all the outfit changes. My makeup photographed very well and wasn't too over the top or heavy. She was outgoing and asked enough questions to figure out what I wanted without being too overbearing with too many questions. The overall session took a little over 2 hours (hair + makeup). It was also a major plus that she was able to come to me instead of me driving to meet her. It took away one stress of traveling around and more risks of something going wrong. Overall, highly recommend her and would use her again! read more

Originally, we had agreed on 8 people but we added two on the day of and she was so accommodating, fast and efficient. 10 people total and we were ahead of schedule. Jessica was absolutely amazing! She answered me right away and even took time to answer all of my annoying on going questions! She did my moms and my makeup and hair trail for my wedding. Unfortunately some things changed that we did not need her anymore sadly! She was so quick! If you need your makeup done and hair styled by a professional, Jessica is your girl! No need to look further! I was looking for someone to do my daughter's hair and makeup for a senior photo shoot. I reached out to Jessica after finding her on Yelp and she immediately responded to my inquiry. I booked Jessica a couple months in advance and made a small deposit to lock in my date. When the date arrived, we went to Jessica's home studio in Long Beach which wasn't far from our home. Jessica was so friendly and professional. My teenage daughter felt very comfortable with her. Jessica is the absolute best! I had a wedding to attend this past Monday, and I absolutely suck at doing my own makeup. I contacted her last week to set up an appointment, and she got back to me almost instantly. Jessica was incredibly professional and really sweet. She made me feel at ease with the whole process, and she was extremely understanding about my flinchiness and nerves about getting my makeup done. She was even able to successfully get lashes on me, which I previously figured would be impossible. So many makeup artists struggle to match my skin tone, and end up using a foundation that's way to light for me. She matched my complexion perfectly and my skin looked flawless. The whole process only took about 45 minutes from start to finish, and when she handed me the mirror I was blown away! I don't think I've ever looked as good as I did on Monday. I love everything she did with my makeup and I received compliments all evening long about how great it looked. Best of all, my makeup lasted the entire night, about 12 hours in total, but wasn't totally caked on and came off easily when the night was over. Jessica did an AMAZING job on the make up for my self, 2 bridesmaids and my mom on the day of the wedding. How awesome was it to find someone who does makeup and hair! I was looking for someone to do my hair and makeup for my engagement photo shoot and with so many people out there I took a chance with Jessica and let me tell you I am so glad I did. I really wish I could give more than 5 stars. To start with "in general" - WOW does Jessica know how to put on something that will last ALL. NIGHT. LONG!!! And look amazing the entire time - incredible!! I looked as fantastic at 2am as I did when I first left her place!! NOW - for the "above and beyond" part of my story... I went to Jessica because I was going as a fairy to a big Halloween party. We figured out what my look was going to be and she thought it would take about 2 hours total to get me all set and out the door. She was probably about 60% done with my hair and probably about 80% done with my makeup when - my left eye started randomly watering - basically ruining all she had done in regards to my makeup!?! It was right at our 2 hours time line and we had to completely wash off ALL my makeup and start over!?!? Luckily for me, I was her last appointment for the day and neither of us had anywhere we needed to be, so she stuck with me! She looked up some alternate options for makeup - knowing that she needed to avoid placing color on my lid near my nose and also really not being able to apply liner either!?!? She created a completely new look, which came out just incredible! The entire appointment ended up taking FOUR HOURS!?!? I am SOOOO grateful that she took care of me and made me look amazing - THANK YOU Jessica!!!!! read more

I initially contacted another make-up artist for my wedding day. She did not bother calling or emailing back even after my attempts. Then, thankfully, I found Distant Glamour via Yelp. First impression counts. Jessica replied back right away and was very engaging and thorough in her assessment of what I was looking for. Because I don't live in Long Beach, we chatted over the phone a few times and my impression was that she knew what she was doing and was excited to work with me. I rarely trust even pros to do my make-up after a terrible result from a non-Asian person who had no clue what to do for an Asian face. She had given me a Kabuki mask, white foundation that did not match my skin at all, and really an accentuated eyeliner look that only made my eyes look smaller and beady and evil like Ming from Flash-Gordon. Jessica reassured me that her clients are varied and her experience is wide and far. On our actual wedding day, Jessica showed up 15 mins earlier than the appointed time. I liked that. She immediately set her work center and began working on my future mother in law. My MIL wanted an Old Hollywood glam hair and smokey eyes and Jessica pretty much created the picture we showed her. I had some pictures from Pinterest and didn't want too prom-like hair. When she was working, it was so effortless--putting on fake lashes for me is such an anxiety provoking task--I usually need a shot or two to calm my fingers but she put them on like she was putting on a pair of mittens. The finished product was exactly what I wanted. The hair wasn't effort-full and the make-up had enough drama but no Kabuki this time. I can't thank her enough for her punctuality and artistry, and some serious skills. I wish I can have another event in Long Beach so I can work with Jessica again! It was fun and felt like I was playing a dress-up with my girlfriend but with a beautiful, professional, picture worthy result! read more

I began as a MAC/freelance artist in 2004. By taking a leap of faith in 2010. I began the journey of working independently as a freelance makeup/ hair artist. This started a chapter in my life that i don't want to end. My years of experience have helped me excel in working with different ethnicity's, skin tones, facial features and hair textures. Feels like I have only 2 layers I'm descent with hair so can mask it a bit with curls. - The highlights are fine but they are old school/ going to root all over and not the ballyage effect I asked for. That said, they were blended nicely. - The color is red/orange which bothers me more than the cut. I said multiple times I didnt want red or warm... my whole head, not just the highlights, got toned a fairly strong red hugh. I invested in blue and purple shampoos trying to tone it down. It helped a bit. I did give her feedback but I don't want to go back to get it fixed because I've been back once already and I'm not confident in her ability to fix it at this point. She did offer to try again. I think i gotta wait this one out a few months and then get a trim and/or tone from someone else. Facility was cute and clean, free parking out back. This can be hard to do, especially since I have ethnic hair and about a decade of vivids, henna color, and other experiments in my hair. I came in with blue and purple fun hair. This is my hair after two sessions and she's done a great job delivering on Grey blending. She found an ashy beige that would work with blending in with my silvers. She really understands color. Recently, due to her exceptional artistry and high demand, she has created Distant Glamour. I appreciate this because she is a lot more accessible for me! Jessica is extremely professional, punctual, SANITARY, and never does my makeup look redundant. One thing that has kept me so loyal is her ability to be eclectic with her artistry based on different occasions or events I attend. She is very educated on current artistry trends due to working in the industry, as well.
