I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kensington Dishoom, and I must say, it was an extraordinary experience that left me completely spellbound. From the delightful atmosphere to the exceptional cuisine, this restaurant truly stands out as a gem in the heart of the city. However, it was the remarkable manager, Daniel, who played a pivotal role in making my visit truly memorable. Daniel saved us from a reservation disaster, allowing us to have the best experience. He absolutely made our night. The food at Kensington Dishoom is nothing short of sensational. The menu boasts an impressive array of dishes inspired by the rich and diverse flavors of Indian cuisine. From fragrant biryanis to succulent kebabs, every bite was a burst of exquisite flavors and spices that took my taste buds on an unforgettable journey. The culinary team's dedication to using fresh, high-quality ingredients was evident in every dish. While the food alone would have made for an exceptional dining experience, it was Manager Daniel who truly elevated the evening. His passion for hospitality and commitment to exceptional service were evident from the moment I stepped foot in the restaurant. Daniel's warm and genuine demeanor instantly put me at ease, and his extensive knowledge of the menu allowed him to guide me through the culinary delights with expert recommendations. Throughout the evening, Daniel's attentiveness and professionalism were unparalleled. He ensured that every aspect of my dining experience was flawless, from recommending the perfect wine pairing to promptly addressing any requests or inquiries I had. His ability to anticipate the needs of guests and provide personalized attention truly sets him apart as a remarkable manager. Moreover, Daniel's passion for creating a memorable experience was contagious. His enthusiasm for the restaurant and its cuisine was evident in his interactions with both the guests and the staff. The positive energy radiating from him created an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality, making me feel like a valued and cherished guest. In conclusion, Kensington Dishoom, led by the exceptional manager Daniel, is a culinary haven that leaves a lasting impression. The combination of delectable food, charming ambiance, and Daniel's unwavering commitment to exceptional service make it a must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, and I eagerly look forward to my next visit to Kensington Dishoom. read more

As a Pakistani girl with a deep love for South Asian cuisine, I approached Dishoom Kensington with a mix of excitement and curiosity. Growing up with a rich blend of spices and flavors, I was eager to see how Indian cuisine, especially in a setting as celebrated as Dishoom, would compare to what I know and love. The moment I walked in, I was immediately transported to a nostalgic Bombay café setting, with its retro charm and warm, inviting atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly, which always sets the right tone. Now, the food--oh, the food! Every dish was a testament to the beauty and depth of Indian flavors, and it reminded me of the flavors I grew up with, but with a unique twist. The Lamb Biryani was another standout--a fragrant, aromatic dish with tender lamb pieces in a rich, spiced rice that was so comforting, yet still fresh and vibrant. I was impressed by how the flavors were bold but balanced, never overshadowing the natural taste of the lamb. Then, of course, the iconic Chole Puri Halwa--this was something I hadn't seen in any of the Indian restaurants back home in Boston. The sweet halwa partnered with the perfectly seasoned chole and soft, pillowy naan was a delight. As a fan of both, I can say this combination tasted like perfection. The chicken tikka, with its tangy and crunchy components, was a lovely burst of texture and flavor. It reminded me of the street food I've enjoyed in Karachi, but with a touch of Bombay's signature zest. And the simple side salad was another highlight--perfectly crisp and fresh, with just the right amount of red onions, cilantro, cucumber, tomatoes, and peppers. What truly stood out to me about Dishoom was the attention to detail. Each dish was thoughtfully crafted, and the spices were used in such harmony that nothing felt heavy-handed. It was all about balance--just like the flavors I adore in my own food. . I left feeling both full and inspired, grateful for the opportunity to taste Indian food that was, at its core, so deeply authentic and yet beautifully innovative. In short, Dishoom Kensington, you have my heart. I can't wait to return! read more

London's vibrant dining scene boasts over 8,000 Indian restaurants, with Dishoom standing as a particularly celebrated example. Their six locations throughout the city are testaments to their success, as evidenced by the 200-person line I encountered at their Camden branch one evening. Their meticulously crafted interiors, reminiscent of 1930s Bombay's Irani cafes, transport diners to a bygone era. Marble tables, bentwood chairs, and aged mirrors create a nostalgic atmosphere, while the monochromatic palette adds a touch of contemporary sophistication. Fortunately, I had a reservation secured at their Kensington outpost for a family brunch in September. My Parsi Omelet (£9.90 = $12.38 USD) was a delightful three-egg creation filled with chopped vegetables, cheese, and a satisfying kick of green chili. The accompanying grilled tomato and toast provided a perfect balance. For a comforting beverage, I opted for the House chai (£3.90 = $4.88 USD), a fragrant and well-spiced concoction with complimentary refills. After 12 pm, lunch service commenced, allowing me to indulge in their renowned House black daal (£8.90 = $11.13 USD). This signature dish, cooked for over 24 hours, was a symphony of dark, rich flavors and creamy textures. It is a true must-have for any Dishoom visitor. While their delectable nihari remains elusive at this location, it further fuels my desire to return for another culinary adventure, including a taste of their famed lamb chops. Dishoom's impressive food and captivating ambiance guarantee a memorable dining experience. read more

Dishoom is often hailed as a must-visit for Indian cuisine, so I was curious to see if it lived up to the hype. While I wasn't completely blown away, I have to admit the food was quite good overall. There was a 30-minute wait, but the staff directed us to their bar area, where we could order from the bar menu--a thoughtful touch. I tried their chai, which was delightful and set the tone for the meal. Fortunately, we were seated within 20 minutes, though the table was in a busy, high-traffic spot. Here's what we ordered and how it measured up: Chilli Cheese Toast: A nostalgic throwback to my childhood. While simple, it was satisfying and hit the spot. Chole Puri Halwa: This dish was a letdown. The chole was overly tangy, the halwa lacked the expected sweetness, and while the puri was served hot and large, it was too crispy for my liking. Paneer Roomali Roll: Decent but not outstanding. I'd give it 3.5 stars. Makhmali Paneer: A standout dish. The paneer was soft, velvety, and paired beautifully with mild spices and pomegranate. A solid 4 stars. Chicken Ruby: My husband enjoyed this dish, describing it as flavorful and worthy of 4 stars. The ambiance was one of Dishoom's highlights, with its art deco-inspired interiors and lively atmosphere creating a great vibe. Despite how busy the restaurant was, the service was impressive--attentive and efficient for the most part. While Dishoom didn't completely blow me away, it's a place I'd recommend for a well-rounded dining experience that blends good food, a lively atmosphere, and warm service. read more

Despite the missing fifth star, I feel that this could be my new favorite upscale restaurant. I use the term 'upscale' loosely because you would think Pietro is but once you see the pricing on the menu, you wonder. It is very reasonable. Going inside you pass a wood burning fire pit outside and burning incense inside. It's the little things that make a dinning experience memorable. Italian speaking staff don't hurt either. We opted for the arrinchini (rice) balls for an app. It was very good, crunchy on the outside and smooth on the inside ($12) However the sauce it came with was cold. For dinner I had the lasagne ($20), which was very good and original and my wife had the branzino special ($28). The mashed potatoes was good but again cold. I had to eat them because my wife is on a no carb diet and her request to substitute the potatoes with vegetables was denied. Im sure there is a valid reason for no substitutes but ashamed my wife couldn't have a side she liked. I would definitely come back and recommend others to as well. I just wished some of their plates came out hot and have their no substitute policy be lenient. read more

The quality of the food was satisfactory; however, several notable issues arose during the dining experience. The waitress failed to accurately record the complete order, resulting in errors being made twice. Furthermore, certain members of the staff, particularly a hostess responsible for seating patrons, exhibited behavior that was perceived as bothersome. This hostess appeared inattentive to her surroundings, causing a disruption as she led us to our table, resulting in a loss of our party and subsequent seating complications. Additionally, the process of ordering beverages was challenging, as patrons had to wait for assistance. While the food itself was deemed acceptable, it fell short of meeting expectations, especially considering the inefficiencies and perceived rudeness exhibited by the staff. The total expenditure for the meal amounted to 80 pounds for myself, prompting the reflection that superior treatment could likely be found at alternative dining establishment read more

Y'all, I was in London for less than 24 hours and ate at Dishoom TWICE. Dishoom came highly recommended, so I went for dinner on a Saturday night. As I was closing out the check, my awesome waiter said that I really should come back for breakfast. He had great recommendations throughout the whole meal, so I took him up on it. I went for breakfast at this location on Sunday morning, since it was closer to my hotel. I was there when they opened the doors at 9:00 am because I was worried about a wait and had a flight to catch. Luckily, there were only two of us in the whole restaurant at that time. I'm so glad I took my waiter's advice and made the effort - this was one of the most unique and best breakfasts of my life! The bacon naan was amazing and lived up to the hype. And the sweet appam stack was equally awesome. Then there was the CHAI. I could have happily sat there all day drinking the chai. I love Dishoom. Food Quality: *** Service: *** Setting: **** Cost: *** I finally made my way to Dishoom in Kensington, and while it's definitely a popular spot, I have to say, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. The food was okay--nothing extraordinary, just solid, but it didn't leave me craving more. The meat samosa was a nice touch, though, as it's something you don't see often, and it was one of the highlights of the meal. There was a long wait, which I expected given its popularity, but the wait time felt a bit excessive for the type of meal. The atmosphere was nice--vibrant and bustling--but the food didn't blow me away. While the setting was enjoyable, the food didn't quite match the level I had been anticipating. I'd say Dishoom is a fine choice if you're in the area and craving Indian food, but there are definitely other places that I'd choose before it. read more

I feel like all my friends who've been to London have come back talking about this place, and I'm happy to join their ranks. Dishoom was also one of a handful of dining options recommended by my hotel concierge for a party of 11, including kids. Booking was easy, via SevenRooms, no phone calls or emails necessary. It's a large restaurant, and part of a popular chain--I guess they have things figured out. The space was great, open and casual, exposed ceilings and eclectic decor. Lots of fans, which my three-year-old appreciated. Service was friendly and attentive. I started my lunch with a drink, a refreshing green India Gimlet, gin and Rose's lime with celery bitters and fresh dill. I also tried and liked a sip of the New Permit Room Old-Fashioned, a slightly sweet cocktail with coconut-washed bourbon, Pedo Ximénez sherry, and Medjool date liqueur. There was only one menu available for a party of our size, a pre-set family-style group feast for eight adults, to which we added a pre-ordered platter of lamb chops. I loved the variety of dishes that came with this meal, and every one of them was ridiculously delicious. (There was less available for the three small American children, but they loaded up on hotel breakfast and snacked on naan and colorful puffed crackers.) The first round brought trays loaded with keema pau, okra fries, and bhel, along with lime, cilantro, and sauces for serving. The keema pau was incredible, probably my favorite dish of our lunch, if in part because it was 100% new to me. It was a spicy, aromatic blend of minced lamb and peas with dill and lindi pepper, served with toasted, buttered buns to make little sliders. So much flavor, it almost explained, by itself, why the British could never leave India alone. The okra fries were warm and crispy, and I loved the bhel, a crunchy snack of puffed rice, peanuts, and Bombay Mix tossed with pomegranate, tomato, onion, lime, tamarind, and mint. The main course was another giant spread: chicken ruby, house black daal, awadhi jackfruit biryani, and chilled broccoli salad, plus our charred lamb chops, with sides of roti, naan, and raita. The chicken ruby was the highlight here, a fragrant, comforting curry with tender chicken in a buttery makhani sauce. The house black daal is a Dishoom signature, and it was lovely, cooked for over 24 hours. The biryani was fluffy and nice, studded with jackfruit, barberries, and sultanas. The broccoli salad was a fresh hit of green, enhanced with pistachio, mint, red chillies, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, dates, and lime. The lamb chops made for a hearty entrée with a lot of flavor, the lamb marinated, grilled, and finished with Kashmiri chilli sauce. The thin, griddled roomali roti and the fresh-baked naan were both great accompaniments, as was the minty, cucumbery raita. For dessert, we had a choice of kulfi, creamy ice pops available in mango, pistachio, or malai, the original flavor touched with caramel. All three were superb, so cold and milk, easy to throw down the hatch. This was, it turned out, an enormous feast, but everything was so delicious and well balanced that I didn't notice how much I was eating until I got up. I was still full several hours later, when we went to dinner. If you want to eat Indian food in London, you should definitely find your nearest Dishoom. My friends and I came while we were in London and shared a meal, which ended up being more than filling for all of us. While waiting outside they offered everyone a glass of different drinks which I appreciated. After about 30 minutes, we were brought inside to our table. The lady for our table was generally speaking friendly - took our order and helped us with a few questions. The food was good. Tried a few different dishes and they were all flavorful, some with a bit of spice but never to the point where it compromised the flavors. Nice spot with good amount of seating. Intimate spot that's good for both groups and dates.

Wonderful decor, you can spend a good amount of time just looking around and your eye will never be bored. Amazing food. Everything we tried was superb. We tried not to order lamb chops, but after being almost shamed by our waiter, we got it - and it was probably the very best lamb chops I ever had - anywhere, it is. Just wow. Coconut Kulfi was spectacular. And Bombay Chai was - once again- an absolute wow. Excellent service - prompt, friendly, attentive. Most highly recommended.

The restaurant happened to be not terribly busy and were able to seat all of us which was deeply appreciated and not expected or taken for granted given it was a Saturday evening. Second, our hostess Sakshi was THE BEST SERVER I've had in a very long time. She was so perfect with our friends' baby (who really liked her!), she brought everything we'd asked for rapidly, she remembered all our questions and requests (minor and major), she was mindful of one person with allergies (me!), she was great about busing the table (important as it had a lot of dishes from our sharing). We wondered if Sakshi is a mom; even if not she was deeply sympathetic to the stress new parents have at a restaurant because she immediately brought out several kids meal options, and was great about checking in with us regularly. Third. The FOOD! Marvelous, at a great price. The tandoori chicken breast, while a classic staple at many Indian restaurants, was done to a level of perfection we all raved about. Imaginative dishes like their Indian twist on Shepherd's Pie were also big hits with the table. Between us 4 we probably had half the menu and literally everything was delicious and memorable. Cannot wait to come here again! We've been to London's bigger name and bigger price tag Indian restaurants, ones with Michelin stars, one that ooze pretension, and ones that bleed your wallet dry. Cinnamon bazaar is a marvelous mix of inventive food and top of the like service in a beautiful location. Book now!

Their masala chai is amazing! We ordered lamb korma, butter chicken with bone in and chicken tikka masala along with buttered naan and rice. The korma was very good and the lamb was prepared well with no gamy taste. The buttered chicken was great but I would get the boneless version next time. The Tikka masala was tasty. The naan was very good. In London, other restaurants like Gymkhana and Dishoom come up when Indian food is mentioned. Punjab is right up there with them. We like Punjab for the wonderful Indian food and atmosphere. If you like authentic great food, this is a restaurant worth trying.

I love Indian food, and Metro Vancouver has a huge Indian population, so Indian food is comfort food. The restaurant's wall was decorated with various historical photographs, and right above our table was a photo of Vancouver, titled "Well-dressed Sikhs walking along the street in Vancouver, Canada c. 1908." Although over 100 years ago, I immediately recognized the location -- the corner of Granville and Hastings. How coincidental is that, to be thousands of miles away from home in a different continent, and to come across a photograph of the very street corner I cross multiple times a week! I don't recall what my husband had (a chicken dish), but I had Acharri Murgha ("chicken curry cooked in a traditional pickling spice mix") and it was delicious! Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal -- it was a taste of home! I also had a couple of glasses of wine, but each glass was 250ml, so I was pretty tipsy. In the washroom, a woman, another tourist, started conversing with me, but she only spoke French, and despite being drunk and rarely speaking French, I was able to have a semi-coherent conversation (she was also a bit tipsy). I had a drunken conversation in French inside an Indian restaurant in England! Anyway, Punjab Restaurant is one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to, and it is no surprise that it has been around since 1946. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England]

The lighting was not subdued steakhouse but good enough to see. Chairs and tables not steakhouse , no cloth linen tablecloth and more standard pub like chairs and tables. Service was dutiful and I would have given it a very good if the waiter bothered to come by and check on us after one of his colleagues (not him) dropped off the food. The onion rings were quite good and were not made with bread crumbs but--I think chick pea flour or some other flour. They were fried perfectly, stacked nicely and seasoned with various Indian herbs. Say 3 stars. The cauliflower croquettes were out of this world--you really should get them. They has numerous notes of flavor including coconut and the inside was mushy goodness. Couldn't taste the cauliflower much but whatever the mushiness was--it was great. The tandoori chicken was also very good--the flavor was muted and the exterior a little crisp (in a good way) but the chicken itself was moist and flavorful. If they had a 4 minus I'd give it that and I'd order it next time. The lamb chops had a ton of flavor and an overabundance of garnish while they were cooked just right. They said they were crispy but--although they LOOKED crispy they were not. Since I was hoping for some real crispiness it was a miss. That is, notwithstanding the flavor and cooking bullseye. All in all--don't think of this as an American style steakhouse...t'is not. Think of it as a fancy Indian restaurant with great food (4/5) an almost admirable setting (3/5) and nearly acceptable service, setting, etc (2/5).
