BUYER BEWARE! YOU MAY END UP TAKING LEGAL ACTION LIKE US AND OTHERS WHO HIRED DISCRETE RODENT PROOFING. THEY WERE NOT HONEST WITH US. We are over two years into trying to get them to complete their initial contract with us and they have refused to finish their job or honor their supposed warranty. They swindled us into replacing the plastic and insulation under our house, basically upgrading a rodent issue into a lucrative construction project for them. One problem -- they rolled out new plastic and insulation but never got rid of the rodents, so now we have new plastic that has been freshly infested and we're right back where we started. They have refused to help without additional payment, even though I agreed to pay additional fees once, but refused after I realized this was going in a bad direction. As a result of their bad business behavior we intend to sue them, which is not a good use of time, but we have been unable to get honest answers from Kristine in their office. The service started out great with Nick, but as the business grew Nick was too busy to follow up himself and they sent different people to our home each time, and it was like starting from scratch each time with me personally walking their staff through what needed to be done -- including crawling around in places I'd hired them to do. Put simply, we were misled and left hanging. If you look back past the few good reviews this summer you'll notice their five stars are almost entirely from 2012-2013 when they started. Yelp has hidden some of the bad reviews they got, including one I noted from Crystale G, which also talked about taking legal action against this company. I have been taking copious notes. We have an attorney engaged now. I think Kristine thought we were bluffing when we indicated we would sue if they didn't follow through on their contractual commitments. I couldn't believe she flatly refused to respond to us by phone and then began to ignore our email. The hidden review from Crystale G. here on Yelp also talked about appealing to the state regulators as this company was operating without the appropriate licensing, apparently. There may be cause to form a class and hold this company accountable collectively. We will fight our fight to its logical conclusion, but I would encourage others to be very careful about doing business with this company as they may overcharge and mislead you as they did with us and others. Last Fall (2017) in Santa Rosa, I had had as much rodent activity as I could stand...rats racing across the roof over my bedroom and also up and down the roof vent from the MBath. Then I would hear gnawing and scurrying in the kitchen. When one of my unwanted guests decided to join me in the kitchen while I was eating dinner I knew I had reached my limit. I called Discreet and scheduled an inspection ASAP. I signed up for a 2 year service contract including cleanup in garage, attic areas, crawlspace and setting/baiting traps throughout:in addition a full inspection for entry points and exclusion of further intrusions. They also did their best to make sure they didn't track all over the hardwood floors or rugs. Every 7-10 days one or more workers would come to check the traps and inspect the areas. As of 1/11/2018 was declared rat-free and I am now an on-call client. The company is well-run, the employees polite and respectful and knowledgeable. (The owner, Nick, was over several times to help his team and even over the holidays told me to call if I noticed any activity as he had a team on-call during that time!). I can't tell you how peaceful it now is without the pitter-patter of tiny feet at night!! read more

Worst customer service EVER! They showed up an hour late for my appointment because they said they were lost and could not find the house (try GPS, it really works). In turn, I had to reschedule for another day since they were so late. They promised I would be the first call of the day at 8:00 am. Guess what? I got a call at 7:30 am the day of my appointment telling me they could not make it because they had other appointments?! I thought I was a scheduled appointment? They tried to re schedule me but at this point I knew they were unreliable,made me feel like they didn't care and obviously didn't need my business (see other negative reviews about how they treat their customers). I will tell everyone I know NOT to use this company. I called HYDREX PEST CONTROL and they were more than happy to help me out. read more

Nick and his crew took care of our rat issue. They were very flexible, personable, knowledgeable, and considerate. They took the time to make sure any and all entry points were sealed up...even when it required crawling into a very tight space to do so. They crawled into places I would never want to go. The price that they charged me for all of their hard work seemed more than worth it (I can't comment on the cost compared to other places, as I have never had to pay for these kind of services), but I would bet they are competitive at the worst and probably beat everyone else. bottom line, got a rodent issue...call these guys read more

Do not use this company! They take the full payment after the initial cleaning. They came for 2 checks after that but did not complete the checks agreed in the contract and did not seal back the area which defeats the entire purpose and exposes us to more rodents. They refuse to return any of our calls or emails even though we paid them already to complete the job and its not done. read more

They did such a wonderful job getting rid of the annoying rodents at my house!! The technicians sealed up all the openings under my house and got rid of the nasty smell from the rats! I have recommended this company to clients through the years and never knew how awful they are! They are initially wonderful to deal with over the phone, however they have been late or missed appointments several times, each time having an excellent reason. After cleaning up under the house in the basement area and the attic, there were small areas of the heater ducting that should have been taken care of. Of course I would not have know about this, if I hadn't hired an inspector to come look under the house. I hired a heating specialist to do the cleanup (of rat poop) inside the ducting and replace the portion that had been taken care of by Discreet Rodent Proofing (it was in the bid). A note of caution the company will come out and remove all of the insulation, but the bid does not have a bid for replacement. When I asked for a bid to replace the insulation, it took over three weeks, with many excuses for why it wasn't given, then finally a "guesstimate" from Kristine. Keep in mind this would have been more money for them to make. After each appointment for rat trap checks, they never gave me a report to what was being caught, nor did they tell me when they were finished checking traps. I needed to know this so I could have the new vapor barrier installed a $2,250 item on the bid that was prepaid in excess of $6,000. I have talked to Kristine about setting an appointment to have the vapor barrier installed, she never called back with a time. I have since sent an email explaining my dissatisfaction, along with calls, other emails and I wrote to the owner via Facebook and no one has contacted me. I am a real estate agent and have the opportunity to provide this company with more work in the future and they don't seem to care if they get more business or not. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! I'm disappointed I even had to give 1 star! Last weekend we scheduled discreet to come out to our house at 9am. At 8:30 I received a call that they were "dropping off a crew" an would be right over. At 9:50 I phoned them to ask where they were, and cancel because we had other appointments. They were gracious, although they said they were STILL "dropping off the crew" and offered to reschedule. Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice, shame on me. I rescheduled. For Noon on the next Saturday. I got a voicemail from Nick to confirm the appointment, but he conveniently rescheduled me to 1pm. When I phoned back to correct him, that we were scheduled for 12 - there was no answer. I can't imagine why a vendor who is trying to make a living - can't schedule appointments or keep them -but we won't be using their service. Its interesting how I see either 5 star or 1 star ratings. They must have all their friends post their 5 stars, and everyone else are real customers who have dealt with them! DONT USE DISCREET, they're a WASTE of your TIME! read more

Nick Trzekiak and his wife Kristine and their dog Jake are an incredible team. Nick's family has been in the pest control business for years and he can handle just about anything. He did an amazing job of ridding my barn of a major mouse infestation and of digging out a huge ground hornets' nest. He is quick, efficient, knowlegable, and a lovely guy. His little jack russell rescue Jake helps him with the rodents and Kristine does a wonderful job scheduling and emailing photos and information. It is hard for me to write this review, only because the gratitude and admiration I feel for Nick can't easily be put into words. I have never written a review before, but if anyone deserves one, this man does! His professionalism is amazing. He is so thorough and kind and considerate that you feel as if you can put your problem in his hand s and everything will be alright! My problem was a raccoon in the attic as well as prolific rat activity. Nick found and sealed up every entrance and continually came back to check on activity until there were no signs whatsoever. I have had Terminex in the past, but all they did was set traps. Nick cut tree branches, set traps and checked them weekly, sealed all of the entry points, and checked with me by phone regularly. He uses safe and effective cleanup methods and is exemplary in his ability to explain and address all aspects of pest control. I am so grateful. His wife Kristine is also exemplary in her customer service skills. Their customer care makes you feel as if you are dealing with people who really care! I thank both of them from the bottom of my heart. Unfortunately, I've had flea issues in May which led to ripping out the only rug in my bedroom in my mobile home and we found two holes from raccoons/rats. I called my homeowner's insurance (Foremost/Farmer's) and they recommended Discreet Rodent. Nick came ASAP-NO issues with appointments throughout the process. He was extremely knowledgeable, professional and friendly. He had the estimate completed very quickly and my insurance approved most of it. I couldn't afford to do the extra wire barrier (not covered) in concrete to keep them from digging under but they didn't try to pressure me. They started the job right away and found a dead mother raccoon and two babies. Probably because I had an exterminator the week before because of a serious flea issue. I hope this isn't two graphic. During the huge clean-up of the 24'x56 trailer, removing animals and all the torn insulation and belly paper, I was continually impressed with the workers work ethic and thoroughness. (also found dead rat- we are very close to Brush Creek) I know that they cleaned everything very well because I had to have the skirting removed for releveling and replacement with new skirting. The reason it took so long to do this review is that next contractors for replacing insulation and then the new skirting did not do a good job and the completion of the job was delayed many times. Discreet kept returning to check that no critters were under the trailer which I really appreciated. Their last visit is this week! Nick and his team came out last year to rodent-proof our house. They offered the best price and we were very pleased with their service. When they were done, the house was sealed and the team left everything absolutely immaculate. I've been just as impressed with their follow-up service during the warranty period. We've called on them twice when it appeared (wrongly, as it happened) that rodents had found their way back into our house. Both times, Nick and/or his team came immediately, investigated the property thoroughly, and made sure that everything was still in working order. Incidentally, in terms of the reviews from Kirsten C. and Mark J., we had the opposite issue. All of the companies we called out, Discreet Rodent proofing included, gave us photographic evidence of an animal living in our attic and holes all over our structure. Nick's estimate was different from the others'. The other companies gave open ended estimates that had the potential to run into thousands and thousands of dollars without actually solving the problem. Nick's was a comprehensive estimate, with the longest warranty. We knew in advance what we were getting. And, as I said, we've been very pleased with the company's work and follow-up. read more

Nick, the owner, came out today to investigate an unusual sound from the chimney--likely bats. He was completely knowledgeable and thorough in his inspection. He was honest and wasn't pushy about next steps. In fact, he gave me tips on things I could do on my own to keep rodents out instead of adding up costly things he could do. He wanted to confirm information about bats before making a decision on how we could get them out of the chimney-- I completely appreciate this instead of jumping into a plan that may or may not work. We had a persistent rat problem for years - the smell, the scratching, it was just horrible. I was an aggressive trapper, and hired a firm to seal the entry points, but no matter what I did or who I hired, the rats would always return. I found Discreet Rodent Proofing on line, but I also had a couple of coupons from SF companies, so I had three quotes done. Nick Trzeciak, the owner of Discreet, was first, and boy am I glad. He was so knowledgable and so dialed in to the nature of the problem. I knew the basic job needed was to clear out and replace the befouled insulation under the house and in the attic, and to seal it all up, but Nick began to educate me about all the other levels of sanitation that were needed, including eradicating their trails with scent destroying bleach. He was experienced and he was very passionate about his work. The other two companies wasted my time. One guy even said there was no problem under the house! They were focused on selling me, not on truly analyzing the problem. Their quotes were cheaper than Nick's, but offered far less. Most importantly, Nick had inspired our confidence, so we went with him. The work they did was superlative - thorough, detailed and exactly what they had promised. There were some small problems, to which Nick always supplied a quick, courteous and generous solution. His crew was very hard working and professional. In contrast to some others, our experience with this company has been outstanding. We had racoons under our house which had destroyed insulation, and rats in another house we own that had been present for a long time. Nick and his staff were meticulous in addressing all issues, adhering closely to the contract and did major work to restore the integrity under the house to close out the racoons who were eating the rats there! I called Discreet Rodent Proofing for an estimate on a rat problem at our house. Initial set up call with Kristine was pleasant and they responded quickly. Nick came out and was pleasant and courteous to my wife as he conducted a thorough inspection of the premises. Here's where it went off the rails. Nick's estimate suggested but did not include removing and replacing all attic insulation, and damaged duct work (which we didn't see anywhere). He suggested clean out and bleaching of attic and crawl space (for a mere $4,200) and setting and clearing of traps for $675, and exclusion of entry points (there was one, a small 2 inch x 2inch hole in a crawl space vent screen) for $550. Truly the most disrespectful upsell we have ever had. I guess they were making a mountain out of a rathill. I completely agree with Kirsten C that they try to scare you into paying exorbitant prices for services you don't need. After a later inspection by Hugo from North Point Pest Solutions, we have a our rat problem solved for $400 including setting and clearing traps and exclusion. Sure glad we called someone else. Sorry, Discreet, can't recommend you and I am offended by your attempt to get almost $5,000 from us. read more

Nick and Kristine run a first rate company and their team of guys do great work. I had a rat super highway running the length of my roof line and they figured out how to get in the house using the dog door. Rats were in the kitchen, behind cabinets, behind stove, under fridge and ultimately, we even found a huge one living in my bedroom closet.. it was horrrifying. They were in, under and around the garden shed, woodpile and compost ( that has all been since corrected) and I really thought I would go out of my mind. It took some doing and we killed a lot of rats. There are traps on top of every wall and roof access point. Nick's Jack Russell, Jake, is an awesome ratter and will find all their hiding spots too! It took persistence but the problem is under control now. I have a slick new electronic dog door which they installed and lucky for me, the rats never found a way into the attic so we didn't have to remove insulation or do any of the really expensive repairs or replace insulation. I have since read that the rat population has exploded in Sonoma and Marin where I live. It's a boom/bust cycle. I hope it's on the wane now, but if not, their 2 year guarantee, is as Kate H. said in her review, very reassuring. I feel I got good value for the money. It was a pleasure doing business with them and Jake is welcome to come back anytime. read more

In retrospect maybe only 3 stars. We used Nick and Kristine's Discreet Rodent Proofing during Spring 2017. They are very nice helpful people with pleasant competent employees. Unfortunately the owners were very disorganized and undependable. It seemed as if Kristine and Nick didn't communicate. Nick would promise a visit or a telephone call but Kristine, who did the scheduling, would be unaware of Nicks promises. This was also a problem with recording of our payments. The lead worker would ask for a payment that frequently didn't get recorded by Kristine. Also Nick would tell us to pay the sub contractors directly but Kristine would be unaware of Nicks directions. We finally got it all settled (I thought!) in July of 2017 for a total through our Home Owners Insurance of about $13,000. This included what we paid to Discreet and their subs, (insulation and duct work). One year later, this past summer 2018 I received a call from Kristine asking for details of our payments. I wasn't happy to try and dig up year old receipts and chest stubs but did the best I could. It appeared that Kristine/Discreet had finally hired a new/different bookkeeper. Today, 1 1/2 years later I received another phone call and an email with a bill for $3000+! I am all in favor of family businesses but a business that can't keep adequate scheduling and payment records is not worth patronizing. read more

Our experience with Discreet was not a good one. They inspected the home we were selling and reported a "huge" rodent problem (and even produced a large rat that had freshly died in an easy location to be found) and then proposed a $7000 fix they would carry out that included HEPA filtration and bleaching wood and didn't even include replacing insultation. Since there's no significant problem with disease transmission by rodents in Sonoma County except maybe salmonella if your rafters are dripping in urine (confirmed by Marin/Sonoma Vector Control) I questioned the need for such an expensive intervention. Two subsequent rodent inspections did not reveal any problem of significance and recommended about $25 in repairs (a door stop, essentially). I should add that 4 weeks of set traps in multiple places has not produced a single rat or other rodent in our home. read more

Ok, this is the way it should be. Don't waste your time with anyone else, I know, I did. I just bought a beautiful home, moved in ready to start a new life, and it's infested with mice. They were ruining our move in experience beyond measure. Mice are having their way at all times of the day, and droppings everywhere. I'd open the laundry room door and they scatter in broad daylight. I have been catching 3 a day, and my exterminator said the two holes on the side of the house were now sealed. But the mice kept coming. They were of no help at all. I knew deep down there was other holes, and that the exterminator guys did not have the experience in sealing and proofing as I liked. I looked online last night and found Discreet Rodent Proofing. I called at my wits end at 11:15 at night, and Christine picked up and helped me right away with an appointment at 8:30 am the next morning. This wouldnt happen in a corporate business that treats customers like numbers. But today our prayers are answered. Nick came and in a couple of minutes he was already finding how the mice were getting in. Nick is our superman. He immediately identified the many ways they were getting in that were unique to my home, and crawled in every spot of this home up and down and found the nests. His professionalism and demeanor put me at ease straight a way. The exterminators assessment was totally lacking by 99%. Instead of telling me it was a problem that might be unresolved for a while, and I had to do so much to try and fix it (like so many people who come to fix things in your home do) Nick is all about solutions and fixing it now with his own two hands. I feel like someone just saved my life, and took a 1000 lb weight off my shoulders. Having mice with kids in a new home is beyond stressful, and I had a friend in college that died from that virus you get from mice and rat droppings. Nick takes pictures of everything for you. All my worries are eased because I know we are now in the right hands. They will not just set traps and plug a hole like many exterminators do, Nick fixes the problem from the root, and I appreciate that. I feel like I finally sleep tonight, and my family will be safe. If you have a rodent problem, you need to call Discreet and I wish I had known about this amazing family run company a long time ago. It's the first time I feel treated like a real person by a specialist who has my family's health in mind when working on our home to rid it of rodents. Our attic areas were infested with rats, a problem that had apparently been going on for many years before we purchased the property. Discreet did a terrific job of thoroughly removing the old attic insulation that had become an inviting nesting area for the rats. This is a nasty and tedious job that took several days in our large, sprawling house. They got rid of the rats. Then they sealed all of the possible entry points around the entire house. Their attention to detail was impressive. Throughout the job, their personnel were friendly and Nick, the owner, is a real professional who seems committed to doing a good job. I am very grateful to Nick and his employees. This past summer we were away and some friends were staying at our (old) house. They found a rat in the house which they were unable to catch. From afar I researched rodent companies online and called Discreet Rodent Proofing. Nick went out to the house immediately to help. They quoted me before they started the job for $7000 and half way through they told me in order to put new insulations in attic to replace the "spoiled insulation" due to rats urine came out to more than $9000. Of course, I paid because I wanted to get rid of this scammers and out of my home. All these experts, called them experts in pest control, could not figure out that my pest issue came from my doggie door hole. They all make up about holes in the roof and any places except the obvious to get your hard earned money. After i sealed my doogie door hole, no more issued. Rats were in my crawl space under the house. They had nested in the insulation and pulled some down. It was a mess. I tried another company who said I had a raccoon! They didn't know the difference I guess! After reading Yelp recommendations, I tried Discreet. They cleaned out the loose insulation, and sealed all around the foundation - from the inside. That had to be a nasty job! Then they set traps and came back to collect the awful creatures. Finally, they pulled all the insulation out and replaced it with new insulation. Result? No pitter patter of little rat feet anymore; my crawl space is dryer because it is sealed up and my house now has proper insulation! The price - definitely worth it!
