After trying to contact the dealer (no response), two independent auto repair shops (no response), I decided to stop at the Pit Stop where I have gone for oil changes for over 10 years. They immediately saw the problem when I pulled in, and I told them that I would pay them whatever they thought was appropriate to just reattach the shield so it wasn't dragging. After about 10 minutes, they emerged from the pit beneath the car and said it was all repaired. When I asked how much I owed them, they said "nothing." I insisted on tipping them for their time and trouble, but I was amazed that a repair for which any of the shops/dealers would have likely charged me over $100 and insisted on an appointment was handled by the Pit Stop crew at no charge with no waiting. There is a widespread misconception that foreign and/or luxury vehicles can only be properly maintained or repaired by their respective dealerships. It may be true that some repair shops do not possess the specialized skills and tools necessary to care for these vehicles. However, Tuffy's in Mount Pleasant has provided superior and inexpensive service for my fastidious Land Rover LR2. On my most recent visit, I had extensive work done to my rear differential, the radiator replaced, coolant leaks repaired, spark plugs replaced, the fuel injection system cleaned, the front differential inspected, an oil change performed and a light replaced. The most commendable aspect of the recent service is that they were unwavering in their price, despite numerous unforeseen setbacks and uncovering of additional damaged parts. They, unquestionably, took a significant financial loss to the tune of hundreds of dollars (possibly $1,000+) in the course of the above repairs. They wrote-off in excess of $800 in parts that were later found to be in need of repair, provided probably about 5 times the amount of labor billed for, waived many diagnosis fees and threw in a few of the smaller items for free. The above repairs cost me about $1750, but I am confident that Land Rover would have charged me in excess of $4,000 for the same repairs. Historically, there have been other repairs that I got done at Tuffy for 50% or less of what Land Rover quoted me. My experience with Land Rover Farmington Hills, on the other hand, has not been favorable. When I had a faulty PCV valve that resulted in a horrifically loud and high-pitched screech (but only after driving for 1-2 hours), they threw thousands of dollars of new parts at it while charging extensive diagnostic fees, only to have the problem unresolved. They had the vehicle for over 3.5 weeks time, would rarely return my calls, and never drove it enough for the symptom to present. Eventually, I brought it in to them after the symptom presented, but it took a collaboration of 3-4 technicians there to be able to figure out what the problem was.

After having to call them near the end of the day for an update (they didn't reach out), they informed me that my vehicle needed a $3,700 repair. I approved the work and waited nearly a week for completion. Upon pickup, the same burning odor persisted in the cab. I had to return the truck and leave it again. Their response? The first expensive repair wasn't actually the problem, and I needed an additional $1,100 worth of work - with no guarantee this would resolve the issue. Needing my vehicle for work, I reluctantly approved this second repair. When my husband went to pick up the truck after this second round of repairs, it wouldn't even start and had engine warning lights on. Their response was dismissive despite the fact I'd just spent nearly $5,000 and my truck still wasn't operational. Their solution was simply that they 'needed to diagnose the problem some more.' At this point, I've paid thousands for incomplete repairs, lost valuable time without my vehicle, and received poor communication throughout the process. I expect a repair facility to properly diagnose issues before charging for unnecessary repairs and to deliver a working vehicle when promised."

First, it was very difficult for me to receive a tracking number after I had purchased my Parts. Employee's informed me they would call me back with updates on the shipping, but I had to reach out half a dozen times to receive any update whatsoever. I was often told that 'The computer was frozen', amongst other excuses, including an employee not knowing how to attach a PDF of my receipt to an email, and me having to guide them through the process. I did not receive any shipping information for over two weeks after I placed the order and payed nearly $1000 to this business. Then, after my item was finally delivered to the drop off point, Michigan Auto Recyclers had made a mistake on the paperwork and the drop off location was unable to properly process the package, delaying the whole experience by 3 or 4 days. Dealing with this business was a huge ordeal and I can not say I would reccomened them. I'm sure some customers have had positive experiences, and they are an honest business that means well, but the level of incompetence was completely unreasonable in this instance. I have no expectations at this point, but from a customer perspective I would hope Michigan Auto Recyclers would be willing to make things right with a partial shipping cost reimbursement for having to spend a considerable amount of unnecessary time and energy to deal with the incompetence of this transaction.
