If I'm being honest I've actually been more impressed with Avanti and Bernard more when it comes to the latter which is what I'm basing this review on. If I were reviewing on the process of building/permitting it would be a different score for sure. So again this is based on the final product and support afterwords. IMO Bernard is an old school pool builder, he knows what needs to be done, how to do it, and doesn't overcomplicate things. He stays calm and works on solutions instead of trying to find a way to blame others. There are some drawback to that in that he does a lot verbally and just gets it done, but sometimes that leads to miscommunications. This happened a few times during the building process, each time I was like oh no here we go it's going to be a fight. But each time he impressed me and just solved it quickly and efficiently. I've waited a couple of years since my pool was built to review because I knew we'd inevitably run into problems. Everyone talks about their great warranty until you have a problem. Then they usually start with the cost of the call or why this is your fault or why that particular component isn't covered, diagnosis fees etc. That has absolutely not been the case with Bernard. I've had weird electronic issues that he's walked me through resetting, I've had a light go out a year and a half after completion, ordered within 10 minutes of me texting him and installed within a week. Just recently I'm having water flow sensor issues which I was almost sure wouldn't be covered, instead of what I was sure was going to be bad news he again texted me back within 10 minutes, asked a couple basic questions, and said yes it's covered I know what it is and ordered the part. To me this is a 10/10 builder. The finished product is beautiful and has really impressed me over the past couple of years. He really made my vision come to life and convinced me we could do it even though I was doubtful with the tiny space we have. He completely transformed my backyard from a place we spent almost no time to an oasis we absolutely love. I received about 7 quotes before we decided to go with Bernard. His pricing was super competitive and I believe a lot of that was due to the fact I was speaking to an owner instead of a middleman salesman. Over two years later and I'm 100% sure I made the correct decision.

There is now a ghastly looking visible patchwork looking circle around the light fixture. He didn't even bother to replace the cover with the white covering, it's just a dark metal cover. We asked if he could repair it to look like new, but he said nope too bad. That's the best he could do. It's appalling spending all this money on a pool and for them to leave you with a giant blemish and a flippant attitude about it. I do NOT recommend hiring this company. We are so disappointed.

He knew everything there was to know about our old hot tub and he found a way to fix it without telling us that we would have to spend $2200 to get a new board which is what I was told by another Spa company when they heard how old the tub was. In addition, he has a great personality, listens carefully and explained everything several times so that I could understand what went wrong and how he was fixing it. Clearly, he's an expert in his field with a wealth of info and experience with many kinds of hot tubs, new and old, as he referenced construction trends in different kinds of systems. We got quotes from several pool remodeling companies and Smart Swim came in right in the middle. We are strong believers on "you get what you pay for," and opted to go with them even though they were not the cheapest. From beginning to end, the guys at Smart Swim were easy to work with and truly wanted our project to come out great. After 30 years, it was time for our pool to have a remodel! Through the remodel, it was uncovered that we had many severe leaks, down to the rebar that needed to be fixed in some areas. Sam was great at making sure we understood the severity and that we were okay with any new costs that needed to be added. Not only did they do our pool, but also installed turf by the pool area and put pavers all around the pool and yard area. We also got the new gray gate installed from them as well, to replace the wooden fence in the yard (between the pool). **Noting that the perimeter wall/wooden top was painted black and sanded/stained by a different company. We truly appreciate their hard work and even when we had an immediate death in the family during their time working on our project, they were very respectful and gave us some space as needed. Artin came by often during construction to check on progress and make sure the job was getting done right and to his standards. He even discovered some minor issues that he took the initiative to get fixed, and of course took care of any concerns that we brought up as well. We also added an auto pool cover for safety reasons since we have young kids, plus a wifi connected system that lets us control the spa, pool temperature and LED lights using an app on our phones. In fact, the repairs he performed did not appear to even be necessary. When I contacted him to let him know the hot tub was still leaking, he offered to return and locate the leak; but wanted to charge me an additional $289/hour to do so. Considering that fixing the leak was the reason I hired him in the first place, I found that price ridiculous. I gave Sam an opportunity to make the situation right; he declined. His defensive response to my concerns only reinforced my impression that he was more interested in the money and defending himself than resolving the problem for his customer. The difference with the new company I hired has been night and day. They were far more professional and actually fixed the leak for a fraction of what Sam quoted me. They also seemed genuinely interested in solving the problem rather than simply running up the bill. I rarely post reviews, but I felt this experience deserved an honest one. Based on my experience, I would not use Sam's services again. Consumer beware.
