Please save yourself the headache and trouble of poor customer service, dishonest communication and stalling tactics by not becoming a customer in the first place. Direct TV provides an enticing start up package and their customer indoctrination is superb but just as the drug dealer always gives the first dose free, they rapidly morph into a media giant with no concern for their customer nor the 'promises' they have made. Uncaring is to pleasant a word for their twisted excuse for customer service. They will tell you they are working on an issue only to have the notes of your conversation conveniently be lost in the 'system' or transfer you to 'the department who handles that thing' and in the end you are left with NO help, NO satisfaction and NO choice but to take the beating they give. My experience has been much like putting my hand into a meat grinder and I have had to cut it off to avoid being completely consumed by the total lack of caring or customer service... DirectTV has a "locked in " price that they are selling customers but it is only locked in if you are using DirectTV and AT&T Internet. I was sold this package last year and told my price lock would be good for 3 years. Well low and behold after 12 months, my price went up because I had my internet with Centurylink because AT&T internet is not available in my area. So because I do not have AT&T internet bundled with DirectTV, I am non-compliant with the contract and do not qualify for the price lock. The best they could do was try to get me to buy the movie channels to save $2.50 for 12 months, but my account increased by $8. A $2.50 decrease really is not helping me because if I forget to cancel it by month 12, I will be charged for the movie channel. This is a shame that people are coming around selling these bogus packages to people especially elderly people. read more

Directv has the worst service. My service starts going off an on around 10 am each day. Today it has been on going all day. It is now 7:40 pm my time. No sense in calling customer service. They always claim that they show service to my home. We have checked the satellite dish, connections and tired of rebooting. I was told that for $90 they would send a tech. I asked why should I pay for them to service their equipment. I was told because I own the sattelite dish, which I was not aware of. The last time I called, a few weeks ago, I asked if they could replace the receiver since it is probably over 3-years-old, since this was an option given to me some time ago. I was told no and that the receivers that are currenly being used are as old as my receiver. At this point, I am going to cancel Directv, So tired of paying so much money and having signal issues more than half the time. I normally tend to write positive reviews but Direct TV has the worst customer service and has terrible company values toward their loyal customers. The tipping point in which I will never return to Direct TV and will go out of my way to tell friends not to use Direct TV is due to my recent experience with their customer service team. I have not had service in over 8 months and receive a letter in the mail stating Direct TV was putting me in collections for $25 after I was a customer for over 6 years and never missed one payment with bills that cost $150 per month. After i canceled my service and returned my equipment they went ahead and charged me for 3 days of service (even tho I didn't have any equipment and canceled service) and put me in collections. ALSO they never once attempted calling me regarding the issue which is BS because it was their mistake/error. All and all, Direct TV could care less about their customers and they proved that to me when I asked for them to waive the $25 as I've spent over $10000 with them as a customer in my years of service and the Rep had the nerve to hang up on me.... Like i said, they treat customers like crap and no wonder have terrible reviews because of stuff like this. To bad this company doesn't have more customer respect. Received an offer in the mail, to change my TV service from DISH to Direct. Jessie went over everything, waived installation, told me how much it would be the 2nd year, gave me a 200 gift card. However after starting the process, I had to give my SS #, which he said would not be a hard credit. Then he told me I would have to pay 199.00 for the credit check. I have a high credit rating, so I can only assume this was a scam. I had Direct TV before, and I had problems with them in the past, but I thought I would give them another chance. NOT. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. They are a complete mess. I have spoken with Emmanuel several times and my order is STILL not right. The installation date was set up for 8 days before I even take possession of the apartment, my name is misspelled, and I have no guarantee now that the date I was told was even properly set up. i received a call today from a Century Link technician saying he was at my house and maintenance answered and said I wasn't moving in for another week. Yeah guy, I know - I am sorry. I am FORCED to use this god forsaken service because of a contract my apartment complex is in otherwise I would use any other service. I signed up with Direct Tv after ditching.Cox due to their prices. Except.for the cost, i had no comaints about Cox, had they been willing to work with me I would remained a Cox customer, in fact I kept their internet. Direct has good prices bit everyrhing else has been a disappointment. I dont care for the DVR compaired to Cox. It cimbersome and difficult to use. I end upntaping shows I dont want. The NFL package is great, as long as I watch at home, the Direct now app i useless for the NFL package, it has never worked for me and Ive given up. Ive had direct tv for 2, almost 3 years. In the first year and a half, I had been charged on 2 separate occasions for HBO and extra channels without authorization. In November, I bundled my century link account with direct tv because I received an advertisement saying that I would save money by bundling... I never did. When I talked to them about it that month they said it was just to make paying the bill easier by combining it into one. On December 12th, I called and spoke to 6 people. Before anyone assumes that I was rude and that's why I was switched a lot, I am a teacher and using a calm voice by remain profession while reiterating and checking for clarification is my expertise and demeaner. I was literally hung up on and given several free channel offers, which I declined every time (I didn't even want free after everything I have been through with Direct Tv). Needless to say, the 6th person that I spoke with stated that the previous man was giving me inaccurate information. I finally understood my billing statement and removed free HBO and other channels. 2 weeks ago, we cancelled direct tv because our dish has had an error message for over a month and we refuse to pay the money for a technician to come out. It even was so bad that our genie stopped recording our shows... so now we were paying for something that didn't even work. We didn't argue, we decided cancelling was cheaper than getting it fixed and we could just live without it. We received a bill saying we owed $8 still so we looked at our other bills to try to understand. The supervisor explained that it was a prorated HBO credit that we were receiving (all bills from Nov-March had credited HBO). So now we owe a prorated amount on credits we have been receiving for free HBO (remember on 12/12/17 when I said we DECLINED ALL free offers?- they didn't listen). I would not recommend direct tv to my neighbors, family, friends, coworkers, or parents of my students. They do whatever they want and insist on offering free or reduced services which in the end will make them the extra $8. I wonder how many other people they have done this to. read more

I had a 2 year contract with Direct tv and it was a bust from day 1. Installers put in the service and by the end of the first week, I had problems. Called the originals and they returned. Checked it out and said I had a bad main receiver. Told me I had to call direct tv for service. I called direct; told them the story and the woman said "oh..were not going to replace the receiver". So she sent some kid by who messed around for a bit and left. Over the next few weeks, I still had problems with loss of signal. I put up with the problem for a few more months and finally called direct again. This time I got a man who listened to my story. He sent out a technician who said "you have a bad main receiver". "It is the old style they don't use anymore". he put in a new receiver and the tv was fine. About 5 or 6 weeks later, I got a phone call from a salesman at direct. He talked a mile a minute and I couldn't get in one word at all. His rapid speech continued while he tried to book me for a sports package I did not want. Finally hesaid "ok I'm going to put you down for this package and then I yelled into the phone "shut the f*** up". He stopped talking and I told him I didn't want the package and if I got it, I wouldn't pay for it. A month later when the first year of my contract ran out, I dropped direct and went with dish. You are better off subscribing to your favorite networks streaming service than to sign up here where they do NOT value you as a customer. When I told them I wished to cancel the service completely, I was asked why I was penalizing them for an oversite! Really? I wish we could leave 0 stars. Today I was texting with Shane at Direct TV Stream about the problem we are having with the sound cutting in and out on our TV while using Direct TV. Shane had me changing the HDMI cables around, unplugging the box to no avail. He then asked me to reset the box by pressing the red button in for 30 seconds which i did willingly. Once the TV got to the set up WIFI page it froze. Shane and I were texting back an forth for over an hour and the TV was frozen on this set up wifi page. Shane kept saying do this do that and i explained I cant move or do anything while we are on this page. So with a brilliant idea Shane says "Oh I will send you a new remote and box will that help" really!!! So no tv for is this weekend. I tried explaining that there was nothing wrong with the remote until he asked me to do all these things. Shane then decided he no longer wanted to speak with me so he pushed whatever button and I found myself right back at the beginning texting with a robot. Way to go SHANE great customer service. I hope someone from Direct TV reads this. I was treated appallingly and now have no tv until whenever If or when I receive a new remote and box. read more

More like Customer Dis-service department. A technician replaced my broken box with an upgraded one, and said there would be no extra charge. Then I was charged $25 for an Advanced Receiver. When I called, I was told I do not have this equipment and they would issue a credit. They gave me $2 back. I called again later to have the charges removed (now two months worth) and was told I would be issued a credit. Again, I got $2. I paid this charge for 3 billing cycles without any change, so I called again. Now after an hour on the phone today (including 35 minutes on hold waiting for a supervisor) I find out the advanced receiver is the ONLY option at $25 a month. They do not offer a lower cost alternative, or permanent purchase. The company said have no record or signature that I ever agreed to the extra charges but they still refuse to refund my money. They could give me no reason why each I was told different and incorrect information by 4 of their employees for the last 3 months. I called again and tried to get tech support but the menu took me to a blank phone line no matter which option I chose. On the 5th call I got a live person in billing, who hung up on me. On the 6th call I got another live person who heard my entire story and then put me on hold for 10 minutes, at which time I was transferred without warning and to the wrong department. I gave two stars because the actual programming service in North Phoenix seems to be pretty good and I have only had to call for repair twice in 4 years. read more

Every month my bill is higher for the lace of quality pictures, freezes, slow changing channels on older boxes lack of support. I wish there were Zero stars! I signed up with Direct TV at the local Costco, having just moved into our new house in Chandler, AZ. I was still unpacking when the installer arrived. He had me show him all TV locations and I then resumed my unpacking/moving. The installer advised me after about an hour that he was finished, and all TVs were operational. Several hours later, when I had time to check the TVs I discovered that TWO TVs had no cable box. I contacted Direct TV customer service to have a tech return to complete the install. After spending an 1+20 minutes on the phone with 5 customer service reps (including a supervisor, Justin) I cancelled my service. DIrect TV customer service kept blaming Costco. My installer, the satellite dish on the side of the house, and the cable boxes all say Direct TV. COX Cable here I come. AVOID Direct TV! read more

DirecTV / AT&T I just closed my account with DirectTV after 2 years of annoyance and frustration. They charged me about $100 a month for 100 channels of infomercials and similar trash, local stations and the usual networks (they call it the select package). Of course the package was only about $70 but by the time you get the (their) equipment as required to watch their programing the cost goes up. Their website for billing and changes to your programing is awful (to be perfectly honest I don't really know that because on the few occasions I was able to log on (a huge problem) it never worked properly and only offered some super lame "automated assistant" (I believe their designation was something like artificial intelligence) but this is not something from the future is is plain old '80 style trash (make it so hard for the consumer to complain or dispute their bill that they will just give up). It is really unfortunate that a company as big as AT&T chooses to treat customers like dirt because there could be a great business here. Based on my experience with this Company I sincerely hope that everyone in the world will join me in boycotting AT&T and all of their subsidiaries. Take my word for it or pay $2400 for 2 years of crappy service and write a review here in a couple of years. Save yourself the aggravation and join me in the AT&T Boycott! PS - If there are any class action attorneys out there AT&T is a great target. They charged me a $20 plus tax termination fee to end a contract that had already expired. If I choose to dispute I need to go online print out their 2 page form fill it out and mail it in (please I already talked to 2 different representatives about the undisputed issue). I feel like a victim of a crime, not a customer. I started with DirecTV on an offer to charge $19.99 per month for 12 months. At the end of the first 12 months, the charge would go to $49.99 for 12 more months. They would send a $200 VISA gift card and that would make the service net out at $26.66 per month for the 24 month period. Instead, DirecTV raised the bill at the end of the calendar year to $51.99 (after only 6 months) and never sent the $200 VISA card. I called their 800# and of course it was a foreign country. The person spoke English, but did not understand or did not listen to what I had to say or ask, instead just read from a script. Next time I will go on Yelp and read some of the feedback reviews before signing up for something and never believe a DirecTV scam again. Looks like DirecTV has scammed a lot of people to earn mostly 1 star reviews. Maybe the attorney general of AZ should look into their unusual business practices. read more

Wow, I'm surprised to read all of the negative reviews about Direct TV. As a customer of 13+ yrs, my experience has been nothing but fantastic. Here's why: + They're very prompt in fixing any issues I may have. + Their installation guys always give me several options on placement of dishes, routing of cables, etc before they complete the work. + I've moved twice in the past 5 years and each time, they set me up with a new dish at a cost of only $25. + I've had 2 receivers die on me in the many yrs as a customer and they've replaced them promptly. + Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have my bills set to automatically pay online and I've never had any issues with billing. + When I call the customer service line, I get connected very quickly with a representative. When they discover that I'm a long term customer, they've waived fees and/or expedited service when needed. + The channel selection is incredible. How else can you watch all the NFL games all season long, go Cowboys! + Besides the rare occasion during thunder storms, I've never lost reception on a signal. I have been a direct TV customer for many years. I have never had a late payment or any problem with the service. Unfortunately, I lost the use of my legs at the beginning of the year. I have been in a rehabilitation center since January. No one has been in my house and the TV has not even been turned on. I paid the Direct TV bill for January and February since I thought I might be able to return to my home. Once I realized that I would never be going home again, I called to cancel my Direct TV contract. They informed me that the billing cycle had started the day before for the month of March and that they could not cancel my contract until April 1st and that I would be responsible for the March payment.
