Direct TV the worst! They charge for everything. They literally stole from a blind woman. I had cataracts and couldn't see much. They charged me monthly for the NFL package I didn't know that they were. After surgery I finally was able to read a bill instead of blindly paying the bill over the phone. I called told them my situation and was told sorry I missed the cut off date to cancel. This package was not cheap close to $300 for something I didn't order. Now I need a new remote I asked where I could turn in my old one and pick up a new ( free at Comcast/Xfinity) they tried to sell me "warranty package" Ah no. HORRIBLE!!! DO NOT GO WITH DIRECT TV!!!! I have been a customer with this company for 7 years now. I was going to cancel and go with Cox. Direct TV offered me a deal that seemed too good to be true in order to get me to stay, installed the equipment, DID NOT do the licensing agreement with me due to technical difficulties, then canceled some of the channels. In order to get those channels I would have to upgrade up two more packages. I called to cancel service and they told me that regardless, I am under contract and I can cancel for an almost $500 fine. From the other reviews they like to do this a lot. That is dirty pool to promise an amazing deal, get you "under contract" then take the deal away and tell you that you are screwed! We had been with Directv for more than 14 years, over the last 12 months we have seen our bill rise 3 times (due to credits expiring) we are now paying $90.00 a month for one genie receiver and the choice package. Last night we had a huge storm over our house, we had a power cut, when we turned on the tv today there was a problem "775". I called Directv and went through all the procedures with the technician then he told me I would need a "service call" and it would cost US! $49.95. Are you kidding me DirecTV? The storm was not MY doing, the equipment is YOURS! That was the last straw Directv. I cancelled the service ($220.00), I am happy to pay that amount to get out of my contract with THIS company. Don't believe anything they tell you!! When my husband recently called to complain that service went out while he was watching a live show. They offered him NFL Sunday Ticket for free to make up for the interrupted service, but only if he would sign on for an additional year of service. He agreed. That weekend he invited friends over to watch football only to find out that the package they gave him did not include the Red Zone channel. Adding that channel would be more than $100 extra!! He called to cancel our service and was told that we would have to pay a $10/month cancellation fee on the remaining 11 3/4 months left on our new contract. He explained that he only agreed to the additional one year based on their claim that they were giving him the NFL Sunday Ticket package for free and that no one ever mentioned that it was a partial package that did not include Red Zone. After being on the phone for over 30 minutes and speaking to a supervisor, he walked away with our service cancelled, but us still owing the cancellation fee. We are telling everyone we know to NEVER, EVER, EVER get DirecTV. They would rather lose customers than be honest. There are way too many options out there to deal with a company with such horrible customer service. Note: We have been DirecTV customers for several years and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. Their customer service is non-existent, and they could care less. When I moved and I called to transfer my services, the guy told me that I'm eligible to receive newer equipment at no extra cost and that there would be no installation fee either. When the installer showed up, it turned out that the newer equipment was only compatible with a 4K tv. We don't own any 4K TVs so we did not have any new equipment installed. Here I am, one year later and now they're telling me that agreeing to receive the newer equipment extended my contract until 2018 even though I did not actually receive any new equipment and not once did they mention extending my contract. The employee on the phone said that the installer installed some kind of cable or something at my house "incase we changed our minds" and got the new equipment later and it counts enough to extend my contract. So now I can pay a $220 fee to cancel now or continue with their services for the remainder of my contract. I'm afraid of having them install at my new residence and having them tack on another year without informing me. read more

I moved here from out of state and signed up for direct TV service they talked me into bundling my internet with Century Link and adding my Verizon cell phone to the account to save $15 a month. Century Link took my direct payment auto-billed each month but due to communication issues the money would not make it to Direct TV or Verizon, even though they took my full payment each month the money was not distributed which lead to my TV being cancelled each 60 days at which point I would have to spend 1-4 hours on various customer support numbers having them figure out how to send the money they had collected through Century Link to Direct TV. This went on got over 9 months before I decided that the time and effort I was expending each month was costing me so much time out of my regular life to deal with all this non-sense so in addition to almost a week of lost time given up to them on customer service lines I realized the only way to end the insanity was to unhook my combined billing which they charged me $250 to do even though I had proof that they did this to me through documentation I requested each time I was wrongfully disconnected. This was all irrelevant to them, my wasted time, the fact they pushed me into this deal and the fact they were not prepared to support this plan. I had a problem with our Billing. I called and requested a supervisor since the problem was somewhat complex. The female representative (in the Philippines) first said I should tell her my billing question. I repeated my request for a supervisor and the rep, stated she would transfer me. Approx. 5 minutes on hold, she came back on the phone and said that she would contact me to her supervisor. I was on hold for over 31 minutes and no supervisor so I hung up. I was forced to have hbo and showtime and nfl ticket when I had this installed. I said I didn't want any of these I was forced to have them for 3 months. The installer said to make sure and cancel by the date because they will charge you. I did call and TRIED to cancel but they could only cancel showtime and hbo. I am very disappointed with DirecTV's customer service, or rather, lack of customer service. We switched to DirecTV last year, and had to call their Customer Service department yesterday regarding a billing issue. After being on hold approximately 20 minutes, "Mo" came on the line. My husband explained he needed to talk to someone about a billing concern, and Mo decided the most professional and efficient way to handle the call was to hang up! My husband called again and gave up after being on hold another 20 minutes. I cannot find a way to contact DirecTV via email. This company actually gets 0 stars. DirecTV is a joke, the worst of the worst. They have taken my $25.00 application fee and after 6 months I still have nothing. They can not locate my account, and that is after I have spoken to 5 different DTV "service" personnel and provided them with my account number and confirmation number. The installer arrives to install my system but didn't bring the right equipment, they then, "accidentally" voided my contract and won't credit my original fee to a new account. I have to give them a good rating for having clear signal and fewer outages. Their pricing however was too high and trying to disconnect their service no doubt was a challenge. It took me several phone calls and most of them were put on hold too long to the point I had to hang up, as soon as they learned that I want to disconnect the service. I have been with direct tv for a lil over a year now. Cannot wait for my contract to be over! I always pay my bill on the 17th of every month. April 17th I paid my bill and my phone sent a text to me to let me know that the $110 was removed from my account. Well on the 2nd of may I received a text letting me know that another $110 was taken out of my account from direct tv in which they said I authorized...umm I did not authotize that. When I called them they stated that they could not do anything about the money because they did not see it on my account and for me to call back in couple days to see ifvthe payment posted it then if it did they could possibly refund it to me. When I called them back..the lady on the phone said that yes it did post and basically there was nothing she could do about it. She stated that I needed to pay another $110 on may 17th so theIr would be no servIce InteruptIon. What??!! Worst customer service! This used to be one of the best companies out three, then AT&T bought them. Since then the nickle and diming is ridiculous. When I call I always get a different story. They want to charge you for everything even though I am "a valued customer " for the last ten years. I do not see myself giving them $150-200 a month much longer. Worst thing ever. If you don't get the service plan you pay a min. Of 50 for a service call even though it was there defective equipment. We pay for 80 channels and at night we get less then 20. We had to buy a new box then had the same problem. They would not even fix there problem they charged us. Never got all the channels in our package deal. As soon as our contract is finished we will leave direct TV and never never never go with them again please don't join then you will regret it, they can't even give you there garenteed service unless you pay extra upon extra as far as money is concerned. Yikes! I don't have the service, but as a longtime Cox customer I'm getting the feeling that there are better deals and service available. So I called Direct TV. I get a frantic 20 something girl probably on her 3rd red bull of the day. But I deal. She tells me the details of the DVR genie ... sounds good so far. After giving her the details of my service with Cox, I ask her what the equivalent package would cost with Direct TV. I KID YOU NOT, she says she can only tell me the price by running a credit check, and proceeds to ask for my Social Security number. That's right, in order to get a quote, I have to take a hit on my credit report. She then gives my some BS excuse that she has to find out if I "qualify" for the premium discounts. When I tell her I wont take a hit on my Credit report just to get a quote, and ask instead to hear what the price range is with and without the "qualified discounts," she refuses to tell me a price. Flat out refuses. Her exact quote was "you can go online and see that packages start at $29.99." Wow. They lost me at hello. Sounds good on paper. The DVR genie looks fantastic. But that's a massive red flag to ask for a social in order to get a quote. read more

New Genie (within first month) has intermittent problems with freezing up and pixelating. Troubleshooting with their tech service did not fix the problem. They say next step is us paying for a tech visit. I am guessing that wont fix the problem but how else can they sell their service plan? My bill in July of 2014 went from $132.64 to $184.63 in August, since I was on auto pay I did not notice until my wife brought it my attention this month, I called Direct TV and asked why and they advised me it was for NFL Prime time, I advised them I never authorized it and I did not need it, I told them I wanted $51.99 times 6 months = $311.94 refunded, they finally agreed to refund $203, I had already filed with the FCC but beware of these guys, I am going to call Dish as soon as I hang up from Direct TV...........never again. read more

I have had DirecTV for 8 years. I had no problem with them for over 7 years but the past 4 months dealing with them has been a nightmare. I can only assume that that the problem is with the merger with AT&T. I have had overcharges and/or additional service fees added every month for the past 4 months. For example, even though I have only one TV, I am now charged for "whole home service". I was asked by them if I wanted 3 free months of a movie channel. I was told all I had to do is to call and cancel at the end of my promo - which I did. I was charged a $10 disconnection fee on that free service. When I called to ask why I was charged for the free promo, they said it was because I cancelled a day earlier than my promotion period, so it is an early disconnect!! I tried to cancel my service and they said I will have to pay hundreds in cancellation fees. I asked how I could still be under contract as an 8 year customer. They said when I moved earlier this year, they gave me a new receiver (replacing my 8 year old receiver), so I am now under a new two year contract. I am still in Phoenix - for other reasons than TV service - but wanting to leave soon. I have suffered from their incompetence, dishonesty and complete indifference to the trouble they are inflicting on people. I expect it to get worse. The reason that I wanted TV service - I don't really watch TV - actually I HATE TV - the endless, mindless advertising trying to force, coerce ignorant common people into buying worthless rubbish and filling minds with trash .... I like to watch professional football. I am In Phoenix , since last fall. I bought a TV at a yard sale - for $25.00 and then DirectV was the only game in town it seemed. So I paid for the minimal service after explaining that I just wanted to watch pro football - and the World Series games since they were there too. I got the best package deal they could offer - $37.00 a month with all the movies I could watch - though they did not really have any movies that I care about. After football season and that awful Superbowl game I had no further use for my 8 inch TV or DirectV. I know that i signed up for a year contract and I knew that I was going to leave Phoenix as soon as the VA finished putting my health issues right - so I expected to pay 37.00 a month for any time that I remained in Phoenix due to treatments at the VA. A contract is a contract - I understand this - but I don't understand why DirectV added more bogus charges to my monthly fees - they told me i had signed up for this package deal and they had given me a temporary reduction . I had not. I was automatically charged extra fees for not watching TV - because I was still stuck in Phoenix - being neglected and rejected at the VA outside doctors - appointments cancelled..... free glasses and hearing aids and surgery and so I had to pay DirectV because I was in Phoenix. O.K. When I told them I wanted to stop their service and learned the CANCELLATION was simply insane a monthly fee - for 24 months, not 12 months - to not watch TV. Of Course I will not pay to cancel this service. It is criminal. One of the reps told me they could give me a SUSPENSION of service - for up to 6 months. That made sense to me. Within 6 months I will be on my 20 acres of land looking at the stars at night far away from the noise and pollution of city life. And no TV service. BUT - they could not do the SUSPENSION thing - because I had to pay the past due bills - which I am not going to pay - ( not going to pay the extra bogus package deals that I did not agree to - which they said they would drop but did not ) and special fees to turn off the service. So we are at a standoff.! The rep who made the offer of SUSPENSION of service could not implement it and the Big Bosses who make all the decisions are ignoring all this, not giving me their final bill. They won't answer their phone; they hire simpletons who are not empowered to do anything to solve these conflicts. Their online service is a bunch of FAQ's (Freaking A.......e Questions) which never apply to anything real. There should be a class lawsuit instigated against these low-life scum. There should be criminal charges filed - it is certainly against the laws to lie to customers about the length of contracts and then add bogus fees all the while claiming that they had warned you they were going to charge you these fictitious fees. In conclusion DirectV is a disgrace to free enterprise. Very disappointed in Direct TV. First, they are a horribly disfunctional mash-up of AT&T, Direct TV and Century Link. Have had a problem with my TV going black several times an hour and need to push a few buttons on the remote to restore it. I can hear audio fine, but get no video/picture until I use the remote. No problems with Apple TV, Fire, Roku or DVD player. Only when in Direct TV mode. Technicians say this is a software issue at Direct TV, not equipment. You can easily google people complaining about this same problem on the internet for months. Direct TV claims no knowledge of this problem. Asked for a $40 monthly credit on my bill until the problem is resolved. They have said NO. I told them I just want out of my contract at this point. Very frustrated. read more

My bill continues to grow larger every month because they add things without asking me. I found out that I was paying $14 a month for a Premier Protection plan I never asked for but apparently signed off on when the technician came out. BEWARE!!! Read everything in every contract or piece of paper they send or have you sign. They decided I needed their Super Sports Package and I ended up paying for it for 2 months before I caught it. I don't even watch sports so I didn't even know I had it until it was too late. I have to look at every bill every month to make sure they don't add fees or crap I don't want. They start you out with a great deal only to screw you when you are good and stuck in their 2 year contract. I ended up having to move and had to have them come install their service to finish my contract out. The catch is you are automatically signed up for a new 2 year contract when you move to a new location!!!! So they screw you bad when you move so don't move until your Direct TV contract is up. Prior to the AT&T takeover of DIRECT TV I was a long time customer, their customer service was outstanding. Then AT&T took over and my bill doubled with no notification. I called and canceled my service, returned all consuls and was told I had cancelled in time and would not owe anything. A month later I receive a bill multiple transfers with AT&T customer service and was told it was sent in error I owed nothing. Another month, another bill and more calls and transfers through AT&T's customer service. This time I'm assured it's taken care of and I owe nothing. The third bill, I've reported them to the Better Business Bureau. I'm will file a claim with their arbitration department if I can't get anywhere with their claims dispute department. I'm telling everyone I know not to deal with AT&T or they'll be sorry. Then I will call the local news " 3 On Your Side" to report their scam. Look them up on and the Internet. This is a common thing they do. I may wind up having to paying the bill in the end, but by the time I'm done warning as many people as I can about how they run their company they will have lost 10 fold that much in lost services. read more

Worst Customer service I have ever seen. After spending 4 months on trying to get Direct Tv to send me a box so I can send there junk back them, I STILL DON'T HAVE A BOX. 1. January the rep can't spell the street name after I spelled it 5 times. 2. Call back 2 weeks later the street name is still spelt wrong. 3. Call back 3 weeks later hey I moved still haven't recived a box here's my new address. 4. Called back again 2 weeks later Address is completely wrong but we have the right city. 5. Another month goes by I get a $900 dollar bill in the mail Direct TV said I own them for the equipment and 387 for a passed due bill. Hey guess what still no box ooo man I guess they don't want there boxes back. So I call in again a week later and yup you guessed it, address is wrong the girl never changed a thing from the last time. Same wrong address but city was right. 4/4/2016 after speaking to a rep for hour and thirty mins she said well I can't help you until you pay 387. What you mean? (The charges you added after the fact) no you were shut off for non payment. Can you say fraud..... I spoke to Adam a Supervisor in TN call center he said Sir you were shut off nothing I can do. Well Adam your saying after dealing with all the BS sense December or Jan you can't review the account see whats going on? No sir. Keep in mind this call is now 2 hours in, OKkkk then he asked why I don't you have the service at the new house, because it an APT my deck faces north no signal. Then he realized a tech needs to come check the line of site that will be $250 on top of your 387. If I could give zero stars I would!!! Buyer BEWARE!! Do not, do not purchase Direct TV. We have only had service for a few months and we have experienced nothing but issues. The tech told us we have a "known issue" that may not be fixed today or tomorrow but possibly within a week!!!!! They can send a tech out MONDAY to try and take a look at our genie. By the way, we cannot, and have never been able to, order a movie on demand or rewind a show to start at the beginning which is a perk in their sales pitch. They won't let us out of our contract unless we pay $20 per month of what's left in our agreement which is 20 months, which is ridiculous since they can't even deliver the product that we purchased and pay monthly for. What made all our tv's lose service this evening was apparently my fault for trying to watch a trailer for a movie on Demand. I would never normally write such a review but people need to know. I have had Direct TV for many years and never had an issue....until I got the 4K box. From the day it was installed, the picture and audio will freeze for a few seconds. I have lost count of the number of times I have called and had to go through all their crap of having to check the plugs, re-start the box, etc., etc. They have sent a tech to my house to check things out 3 times (#4 is coming in a few days). I am so sick of calling and dealing with this issue, my last call I told them I wanted the box gone and replaced with the HD box which worked perfectly. I was informed they can't "just replace the box". I have head, even from one of their own tech persons, ATT knows of this issue and have been trying to resolve it. ATT should not release a product that doesn't perform as promised, using customers to test their products is ridiculous. I am their test dummy, and I'm PAYING to do this! Please beware of DirectTV. Ours has had severe problems since Nov. 2017. Apparently AT&T did an "upgrade" at that time and interrupted reception ever since. Now , not a day goes by without problems. I freezes, pixilated and simply shuts down. Have made numerous calls to customer service , had technicians out and nothing changes (this is in Scottsdale, Az.) Each time I speak with them, they say it is a software problem and the engineers are "working on it' . There is no timetable for resolution of the problem and this is a national problem. Now reboot many times per day to attempt to watch tv. Have never cared for cable tv, however, hove no choice - have to cancel and go to COX. And after about two months of having them again I called to see where the rebate is. I was told that you had to redeem it online. Which I did then it shows it was only $100. So I called customer service to find out where the other $150 was. Was told they were going to look into it and give me a call back which I never did receive a callback. So I called back a week and a half later and to find out that it was never processed again and they were going to switch me over to the rewards department to see if they can honor the other $150. I get a gentleman who doesn't seem to be happy with his job and all he does is sigh thru the conversation and keeps saying well I'm sorry I don't see any promotions showing what your talking about. It only shows if you sign up in store like at Costco you would receive that promo. I said ok well I have a screen shot showing it's for $250 that was the reason of signing up online, so basically it's false advertisement on your end! Here we go with the more sighs! Called for the past three months to inquire why their cost increased monthly....the Phillipino rep responded, rate increase. This D.T. Customer is on the way out and shame on Costco to sponsor such a vendor...some retailers don't care about their reputation. read more
