1-Star Review I'm extremely disappointed with DirecTV's cancellation policy. I called to cancel my service, but because I did so after the new billing cycle started, I was charged for an entire month that I won't even be using. They do not prorate or offer any kind of refund, even if you cancel just one day into the new cycle. This feels like an unfair and outdated business practice that punishes loyal customers who are simply trying to end their service responsibly. Most modern companies offer more flexible and customer-friendly policies. Unfortunately, DirecTV does not seem interested in supporting its customers once they decide to leave. I would strongly caution anyone considering DirecTV to read the fine print and be very careful with their billing cycles. We decided to finally cut the cord. I called Directv to disconnect immediately. I was told they couldn't disconnect until the end of my billing period, which is 10/5/25. I asked how I could do that as the billing cycle started a week ago and I didn't received the bill until yesterday. I told them they were forcing me to watch there service. I was told I should have canceled sooner. I was told where I could file a formal complaint, but was unable to find it. When I went into my account, it shows that I can use Directv until 9/26/25. After continued issues with connectivity on my two TV'S I called your customer service #. I continually received and error code of 775 on my receiver. I followed the instructions to reset. Sometimes it worked briefly and other times not at all. After 40 minutes on the phone the Rep agreed to send a tech out to look at it. I gave her detailed instructions on the situation and how to get to me in my apartment building. The rep showed up 30 minutes past my 4-hour window and NONE of the information I had been communicated to the phone rep. had been communicated to him! He asked a few questions and basically told me he was not the right type of tech for the job. Because it was an apartment building, I needed to have a commercial tech come out to look into the satellite service. So nearly 5 hours of my time wasted, and nothing was resolved. Do the customer service reps on the phone not get any training? I was specific about it being an apartment building but that information like all the other I shared disappeared in the wind. I have rescheduled another appointment for next week. Hopefully the right person, with the right equipment will show up. Where do I begin... My MIL had DirecTV service in her home and she passed away in January. We canceled service, showed documentation of trustee, and shipped back the equipment in February. Since then, there has been a $47 credit that is to be issued to us which has never happened. The UPS tracking documentation shows that the equipment was delivered, however DirecTV informed us in March that they can't locate the equipment in their warehouse, therefore they never received it and we would get no refund. After approximately 16 hours on the phone with DirecTV, and including a conversation with a male agent telling us to put my deceased loved one on the phone three times after we told him the same number of times she is deceased. What company operates in this fashion? Obviously, the 1 star rating for DirecTV says it all. In my opinion, their tactics are to harass customers enough that you just don't care and say it isn't worth it to do business with them. Service tech came out for our "free" upgrade and disconnects old equipment then tries to hook up new box and tells us we need a new dish cant set up and leaves the equipment on the floor no new service hooked up. We call and they say our service call is complete! Then tries to sell us a service plan to get another tech back out to our house. Here we are 4 days later NO service. Don't do it people, stay away from DirecTv and AT&T. I've been a DirecTv customer for 9 years. It started out great, but since AT&T took it over, it's a dumpster fire. I recently moved to a new house and transferring service has pushed me over the edge. I spent way to many hours on the phone with people that cannot competently help with anything. Now that I'm in the new house, I can only get standard-definition. With how horrible they are to deal with, I don't have the willpower to call customer service to address this issue. Unfortunately, I had to upgrade to wireless boxes with the new installation, which they A) charged me $200 for and B) required a new two year contract. That phone call was so horrible, by the time it was done I would have agreed to anything just to get off the phone. It's like they were beating a confession out of me at Guantanamo Bay. I switched from Xfinity to Directv a few months ago and have regretted it ever since. The day Directv installed the receivers they were 2hrs late and stayed 2.5hrs later then they were supposed to because of this I missed an event I was planning and paid to go to for months. I was charged $99 that I was promised it would be waived the day I signed up. DVR is not user friendly or intuitive to use at all. Most on demand shows I could get on Xfinity I cannot access with Directv. My entire family is very frustrated doesn't watch tv at all anymore. Which is Not a bad thing but it is when I'm paying for a tv service. The kicker of it all is that I'm getting far less features with Directv then with Xfinity and I'm paying the same amount per month. I would love to cancel my service now but would have to pay $300 in cancellation fees on top of a full month of service. read more

The DirectTV technician had not gotten out of his truck before explaining to me all the reasons he could not install service here: an unobstructed view, no trees, southern skies, all of which would be more understandable if any of it was mentioned on the website, or the online video about having DirectTV installed. Had a appointment to replace a broken receiver, waited all afternoon on a Monday but never showed up. Got a call six hours later and they said they had to reschedule, but couldn't make until Thursday morning. I asked for some kind of rebate for the inconveniences I had to deal with and they credited my account for a lousy $ 13.83 . Looks like we don't really care for existing customers, but give the world away to to lure in new customers. read more

Asking for my address and number apparently they opened it at a different address and number.. The supervisor did they same ? . They wouldn't give me the information for the collection agency . Said it would be canceled 08/04. 5th comes around and I'm charged again. I call and try to be polite by stating what happened and I'm told there is no record at all of me calling in before and they can cancel it but I will not be getting a refund since they don't prorate. Awful customer service. They removed a credit from my account, that was supposed to be a 24 month promotion, after only 14 months. After being transferred twice, none of the 3 people I spoke with could tell me why it was removed. I had to explain to all three people what the situation was because they "cold call" each department when transferring. After 51 minutes and being forced to speak with three different people, they did add my credit back. Ridiculous for something that person number two admitted was not my fault. I choose to go with another vendor and they said I would receive my final bill. Did not get one in the mail it came to my email tried to pay via phone text message (an option on their website) and got a message that I had a zero balance. Assumed they charged my credit card as the billing said. Then I got a late charge that after 30 minutes on the phone and via chat with them they refused to remove. DirecTv was great until AT&T took over. Now problem after problem after problem. If my wife didn't have all her favorite shows recorded, I'd get rid of them after 20+ years. I hate it now!! Should be zero stars but it makes me give at least one. Don't sign up with them. Their website misleads you. It showed me that RSNs were included in a package. Qhen I signed up amd logged in, it said i needed an account. Customer service reps are horrible. They wanted me to pay $20 more for the channels that they said were included. I let them know that i wanted to cancel (less than 20 minutes after signing up) and receive a full refund. They told me they could cancel but refused the refund. While clarifying theirnstance and gownthey do business, the agent slammed down the phone and hung up. Poor service and disrespectful representatives. Worst customer service ever! Directv signed up my brother and father over the last few weeks. They were very excited about a good deal. The company Directv hired to install for them "Frontline Communications" screwed up the install process at both of their houses. They both took off from work for the appointment and in one case they were late and then said they couldn't do it. The other they stood up without a call. Then when my parents called the guy said he would be there in an hour and he stood them up again without a call. When my parents called again, the person on the phone said that they had cancelled. My brother rescheduled his appointment for today and called to just make sure they were coming and they said he had nothing scheduled and they refused to do anything to get it done today. His wife had already taken off of work. So basically Directv and Frontline communications are batting 1000 with my family and the deal I was considering doing with them as well has of course been dropped from the realm of possibility. I would not use Directv if I were you until they hire a better company than Frontline Communications. By the way, in almost 10 phone calls, not one single apology from anyone. read more

Directtv like most cable companies is a huge waste of money. They start you out with a pretty reasonable price and then get you locked in with a contract and nearly triple the price the second year! If you try to cancel it is $20 a month. The customer service is terrible! Oh and never give them your credit card information. They will never remove it even if you ask them to. I got a new card and decided at that point I would switch to sending a check every month and called to ask them to remove my card they never did. read more

I have been a Direct TV customer for two years, and it is a big waste of money. I found their original "special" deceitful. I actually thought they would be charging me what they advertised, but they added on equipment, service, all kind of stuff, so I was paying over $100 a month. They hid the fact that I was signing a three year contract in small print somewhere. Now that I am moving and have to disconnect service they are charging me $160plus to discontinue my contract. They find some way to charge you whatever you do. I will never, never, never contract with this company again. They also don't even have a reasonable plan to return equipment. I spent three nights and over four hours on the phone trying to get AT&T and their incompet employees to help me with my sudden increase in cable bill. I have been a DIRECTV customer for 15 years. I was paying around $60 a month for my basic cable program with DVR's. As of December 30, 2018 my bill was going to jump to almost $130 a month. When I called about any discounts or the ability to lower my bill to the current amount I was told they do not do that and if I wanted to continue cable I would pay the 130+ dollars a month for next to nothing in services. I was transferred 5 times! Hung up on once and placed on hold for over 4 hours! AT&T is a greedy poorly company that was not prepared for this takeover. I will never be a direct TV customer again and encourage anyone that is to look closely at those bills. Cooperate greed at its finest here!! Complaint of AT&T Direct TV customer service: We are snowbirds so we live in Minnesota 9 months and Arizona 3 months. When we signed up for Direct TV from AT&T, we were told we could "suspend" our Direct TV when we were gone to AZ. Last year we went through a horrible hour with AT&T "so called customer service". Finally, I asked to have it completely disconnected. At that point, I was able to talk to someone who I could understand and could understand me. He couldn't suspend my account because I hadn't been on long enough but he did eventually suspend it about two weeks later than I wanted. When it was sold to me by a local AT&T store person, she didn't know about that limit. I called her after this fight and she still didn't know about that restriction. I let it go. Today, a year later, I tried to suspend it again. They finally got it suspended (they said) after about five minutes with an automated machine and then 19 1/2 minutes with the representative. With their awful computer system, each "customer service representative" is able to make three customers per hour really mad. If they had a reasonable computer system, each representative could make 60 customers per hour happy. Their system should allow the customer service representative to: 1. Recognize me from my phone number. 2. Do some verification. 3. Click a button that says "Suspend Direct TV". 4. Click a start date and an end date. 5. Read whatever disclosures their lawyers want them to read. 6. Click "Suspend". This should take about 60 seconds. One customer service person could do the work that now requires 20 people. Again - doing 60 calls per hour instead of 3 per hour. It's just so frustrating!! Ted read more

I canceled my DIRECTV service today after two years of nothing but problems which were never corrected. I was told "we no longer prorate bills, so we'll have to cancel your service as of September 26" Which causes me to pay for a month of service I'm not using???!!!! I was told by the supervisor that they did that because people were getting confused over their bills and complaining. (Really? People are calling in to complain about credits on their bill?!) I then asked so if I add the largest package and all the movie channels you're not going to prorate my bill to collect the charges once it began?... He laughed, and said "no we would prorate that." Neglected to give me my $200 rebate as a new customer then told me I was too late to collect it when I questioned them where it was. Also, was offered a free movie channel promo. When I cancelled it they continued to bill and denied me a credit when I challenged the bill. Agreed they were wrong but did nothing about. Their service and billing practices are almost criminal. Took off from work 3 times to have new receivers installed. They never made the scheduled appointment time. Probably dropping them as a customer. My wife called and tried to get compensation/upgrade and was told we would be put on priority for the service call. That did not help. They were better when not owned by ATT. read more

So we got signed up by a rep that was inside of menards in Blaine mn on the 2 nd and got approved and insulation date was for the 23 rd .. And they called me this morning the 4 th and told me we were flagged because we had service 2 years ago so anyways they called this morning left a message because I was busy working then a half hour later got another call from the insulation place saying they cancelled our hook up for the 23 rd all because I missed the first call from direct tv .. So I called corporate and they said it was because we had service at the same address before .. And for another 888 number to call. We spent like 45 min in menards signing up got approved now they cancelled us?? Really ?? I am appalled with Directv's crooked business practices and terrible customer service!!! First, the guys that came to my door, who I agreed to let sign me up for their "cheaper but comparable service", glossed over the important details in the contract and lied over future prices of Premium Channel prices! Once I caught wind of these lies and I was not going to save any money and realized the Internet portion was not working well, all within 3 days (Lemon Law), I called to cancel (at least I hadn't my Xfinity service yet), and even though I initially called the customer service number provided on their App, I found I was stuck in an "on hold hell"! After 70 minutes and being passed to 4 different customer agents, - having to re-answer security questions each time and re explain my situation - I was relived to finally be given a "direct number" by the fourth woman so I thought I would get help from the correct department. But, when I called the number this CSA could not even find me in their system! It turned out that it wasn't even the part of AT&T that sells their Directv! All told, after I listened to more awful hold music I was grateful and relieved that I got cancelled and am back with Xfinity (even though their excessive fees are bogus) and feel like I dodged a bullet by getting out of my Contract with the slimes at Directv!!! read more

Rescheduled for appointment twice. Technician did not show up and no service call was made till two hours when the install was set up. Rescheduled again we confirmed and once again no call from technician. Scheduled time was 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm and it is now 5:00pm and no follow up from technician. I have NEVER had more issues with a company. First of all the service was terrible: internet and cable would go out all the time and no one could fix anything, I got charged for renting movies that I never rented and they were unable to waive fees, and their customer service is horrible. After finally moving out and cancelling services I was informed that I was overdue on a payment. When I called in the customer service rep said that I never cancelled services which I had over a MONTH ago and then they told me that I was being charged for never returning my equipment. WHY would I be charged for not returning my equipment (which I did weeks ago) if you are telling me I didn't cancel services!? Now I need to wait 5-7 days to hear back as they look into my 'missing equipment'. Very frustrated and will NEVER use this company again. read more
