I want you to know that I asked the customer service rep who assisted me this week for any and all ways that I could share my strong, positive feelings about the customer service provided by US Internet. Once again, I had service that well exceeded my expectations when having a problem with both my internet and phone service. On the recent occasion, I sent an email to the customer care team about my internet outage, and almost immediately got a cell phone call from a representative. He said he saw the email, and wondered, maybe we could work more efficiently together if I was available by phone. He worked with me patiently to explore and fix my internet problem and then took even more time to work on a problem with my phone service that we identified while talking. Throughout the process he was professional, efficient, courteous, and extremely patient. This exceptional service is consistent with every interaction I have had with this company, and I plan to find other opportunities to amplify my continued confidence in this company and appreciation for its customer service. Before switching from Comcast for internet service, I asked friends, colleagues and neighbors about was the customer service the company provided and I can honestly say that I have never, ever experienced the level of prompt, professional and courteous service I have received from this company. We are a business and went with them because of a few issues with our last provider. I would NEVER recommend USI Fiber. The switchover has been horrible. Everything that you can think of that could go wrong did go wrong. From the people behind the scenes to people they sent out. And when we did finally go live they sent a bill and 2 days later already disconnected for non-payment, even though we just got the bill and just went live with them. They had us listed as a resident even though we are a business. It took forever to get our phone numbers switched and when I emailed one of the corp people saying our phones did not work, she actually said she was too busy to help me as she was on phone calls all day. I had heard amazing things about this company from family/friends. First off, the customer service support people were incredibly helpful, friendly and informative. Where it went wrong was with our scheduled technician. He had called us when he was 20 minutes away to let us know he would be there to install our fiber internet. Awesome! No one came to the door, called or texted us after that. We waited for almost an hour before I called his number to see if he was okay/running behind (life happens) but he didn't pick up. I called the customer support number and they also couldn't get ahold of him but reassured me we were still in line to get it installed; saying he may have called us on accident thinking it was for the current job he was now at. They said to call back if we don't hear from him within the next 1-2 hours at most. Two hours go by and radio silence so I called the customer support center again. I talked to a polite man and explained what was happening. He did some thorough research and found that since we live in a townhouse, we would have to get an account setup through the property manager first and then schedule an installation appointment. This was the first time we ever had this brought up. The service technician apparently drove up to our residence, saw it was a townhouse and immediately left without any notice. Just left us (and his own colleagues?) in the dark. We had set this up over a week in advance so to have it come to this is pretty irritating. Will probably try another fiber option read more

Unreliable internet service impacted by weather. US Internet advertises on its website that its service, "Fiber is installed directly to your home." However, in many homes such as the all new building I reside in, which is in a highly urban area in the city of Minneapolis, the "Fiber" internet service is actually delivered via air transmission dish antennas. After experiencing countless internet drop-outs and slowdowns and troubleshooting with USI tech support, the last tech support agent connected the dots with the bad weather we were experiencing and disclosed my building's connectivity is subject to interruption because of the air transmission connection and that there were no plans to physically run fiber to my building. I work from home and have invested in gigabit wired networking, wifi 6e mesh wireless and even backup UPS power in order to ensure a reliable setup for working remotely. To have the Internet unexpectedly drop and remain offline when we experience rain, snow, hail, strong winds, etc. is unacceptable and highly frustrating especially when you're in the middle of a Zoom call, watching a Netflix movie or streaming a sporting event. It's frankly false advertising by US Internet to sell a wireless based connection as the fastest "Fiber" internet technology. I really wanted to like US Internet because when the weather is perfect, the connectivity is truly superb. Unfortunately, frequent weather events is a fact of life living in Minnesota and I can't recommend US Internet unless they can be upfront and transparent about the internet services they actually provide. Because I'm in a new building that also wired each unit with hookups for Comcast Xfinity and Centurylink DSL I'll be looking to switch to another provider. If you really want to go with US Internet, be sure to call their Tech Support line first to understand whether or not they are truly running Fiber to your home or if they're taking an inferior shortcut like they did in my case. read more

I have attempted obtain to Fiber services from USI --However as they redline their Fiber Deployment (and do not provide equal service to lower income/communities of color) I am currently unable to use their services. If you look at their deployment maps they skip over communities in Minneapolis where there are higher numbers of lower income users/users of color. I called USI today asking to cancel my service on Aug 31 since I am moving. Over the course of the calll, I mentioned needing service until Aug 31 several times. I work from home so I have to have internet. Tonight I received my bill via email. It looked different so I called USI Internet. The woman I spoke with literally told me she had very little knowledge of billing, but did manage to figure out that I had requested to cancel internet service immediately. What? I called back an spoke to a third person today to confirmed that my service had been canceled immediately as I requested. I think I will have internet after this last call, but this is the most incompetent company I have ever dealt with. This is ALL they do, internet service, and they cannot handle that. read more

I am so happy that USI could provide fiber to my house. That is exactly what I wanted and needed. The only other option for fiber was CenturyLink and having dealt with their service, price and reliability when I had DSL, I had no desire to deal with them for fiber. My other choice was Comcast, which is delivered via cable (hanging from telephone poles), not fiber (which is buried). Also, cable is a "shared medium" which I would have to share with everyone else on my block. Speed really depends on the total usage on my block and when everyone gets home, after work, and reads their email and orders from Amazon, the "Gig Speed" goes into the toilet for everyone. Another "feature" of cable (a shared medium) is that all the data on the blocks goes through everyone's house - it's a loop. If you've got a network-savy person living on your block, he/she can see all of your data from his/her living room. I hate cable - if you can't tell - and why would you go to your cable company to "cut the cord" and deal with their prices and constant rate hikes - just like cable TV? And they can help you cut the cord even shorter by providing you with phone service (landline) - also on their buried fiber, not hanging from telephone poles. As I said, I hate Cable - but I love USI Fiber Internet and all the service they have provided in the last couple of months. The install was faultless, fast and customized to my requests. I rent my equipment, at $8 a month, and they gave me a primary router and a remote unit that extends my wireless to dead spots - like in the backyard. And if I have more dead spots, like upstairs or in the basement, they'll give me as many remote units as I need at no additional cost (Amazon's price is $111 each). So USI Internet gets 5 stars and you get a suggestion, from me, that you check out them out. I don't believe that you will be disappointed. BTW: I am not getting anything for this positive review (LOL). It's just that I really hate cable! read more

After having been a thoroughly unsatisfied Xfinity customer for years, I was thrilled to hear that USI would be available shortly after I moved into my new apartment. Sadly, after a trip out by technicians to do the in-home install (which they initially wanted to rip out my upstairs neighbors floor to do), a second trip back to move the outside box they put in the wrong place on the first trip, an attempt to come out to install a week after the home install (I guess they had forgot they had done it?), a tech to come out because my 'light levels' were low in which I learned that the only thing he could do was nothing because its a two person job to fix the inside part of what they had previously messed up--I'm now still hot spotting off my phone (a full month after the date in which I should have had service) while I wait for the fourth trip out to perform what any other internet company I've had experience with can do in one go. I feel like I'm stuck in a bad Seinfeld episode or something. I have to give them two stars because of their Minnesota nice and in the hopes that once (if) I ever get service I will love it. --- Four days later ---- Once the issues I was having were known, because these issues were so outside the norm--a person high in the company reached out and did everything they could to resolve my service quickly and satisfactory. I actually like us internet because of their fast speed and flat rate for services. However their internet went down in my building and when I called the customer service I received was terrible. No remorse that it was down. No eta of when it will be addressed. I was in the middle of a conference call when it went down and when I told them about it they did not care that I was experiencing an inconvenience. Sometimes just a "hey we're sorry about that. We are working to fix it as fast as possible" makes all the difference. Great service when it's working. Terrible soft skills in regards to customer service. read more

I have used USI since 2008 when I bought my computer. For the most part the service has been good except for when the nearby node went down. It usually took at least 3 days to get online again. I never got the feeling that they found the situation to be urgent. Last November I lost my connection again and I called in to report the problem but after several days it still wasn't fixed. I eventually found out that according to them, my modem was blown and I needed a replacement. I had 3 techs visit me but none could get a response out of the replacement modem. I think the replacement was subpar because it was just useless. I still needed to use the internet ASAP so I canceled my $19.99/mo plan and went to the $50.00/mo plan. I don't find the 300 Mbps to be so much faster or better than my old plan (6Mbps) but now I am paying $30/mo more for IMO nothing. I think USI is focusing on their Fiber Optic clients and leaving the rest of us to fend for ourselves. I am beyond disappointed. read more

Britney, a technician, helped me out last week when I got a new router and the internet connection kept going out. She patiently walked me through each step with grace and humor. There have been I believe only two times over the past two years that I've experienced outage of services, and the support was easy to contact. So far, this company has sucked big time. Since getting service about 40 days ago, I've had no less than three visits with technicians, and things still aren't working properly. In addition to the modem deciding that it didn't want to work, my internet speed has been about 1/30 (at best) the speed it should be. Been waiting months for my service to be activated. No one tells me a date they keep saying 2-3 weeks for all the appointments that have to be scheduled. Edit: 10/14 Service has been up for about a month. Speed during real use isn't close to what is advertised. I lowered plan speed. Service is intermittent with some problems during peak hours. Had to have someone come out to fix something in the cabling that was installed wrong in the ground. Someone from us internet has contacted me about this review. After dealing with my last cable and Internet provider, USI is a breath of fresh air. They actually know what "customer service" means. They connected me with someone who told me exactly what equipment I would need to buy to have WiFi and streaming service. All the USI staff were professional and helpful. Once I was hooked up, they had someone come out and set up my TV sets and WiFi, train me, and answer questions. They made switching seamless and painless. I've been with USI's "50MB" fiber service for over a year. Yes, the customer service is very responsive, professional, effective and friendly. This is the reason that I'm rating USI above 1 star. The issue is that I'm actually using my personal cellular hotspot as I type this review. The speed performance is so unreliable that this has become typical. In addition, it's very apparent that USI has not invested in the necessary equipment to handle increased usage in the evenings... Data speeds drop significantly after 5pm when people start getting home. I've written and called USI several times with this feedback, but no improvement (tho always a pleasant and timely response). In fact, if I didn't want to stream movies, I would drop USI and simply use my cellular data plan... It's much more reliable and faster. What makes my experience even worse is that when I have taken the time to call USI, my internet speed magically improves for a couple days. But it always reverts. If I had another option at the same (or even higher) price point for true 50MB service, I would switch to it! read more

I told them it didn't work several days before they sent equipment out but chose to ignore my message claiming I had to call only to send the confirmation cancellation to the email they said they couldn't trust . The guy I talked was very snooty like he was doing me a favor . Two day later I left the country because I am taking summer vacation . They company has called me excessively over and over several times a day over a box they shouldn't of send on the first place because it was sent after I cancelled . We have USI Fiber for many years. Technically, their product is good with no service interruptions. Our main complaint is their pricing which basically follows the rules of a monopoly. They claim straightforward pricing but they increase their prices by 20% every three years. How do they do that? They eliminate their lower speed plans and move you to the next speed (which you may not need). Instead of all the marketing plan claims you may be better off planning for these price increases. Customer service representatives cannot do much. Their last increase for January 2022 was announced in the middle of the pandemic. read more

We had USI fiber at our home in SW MPLS. It was always solid and never had any interruptions in service. Up to 100 mbps up and download speeds and almost always on the higher end, even while everybody is working and schooling from home. Now we live 2 miles away in East Edina and I beg you to expand your services into this area. Our options are terrible. Comcast whose famous for their hidden fees and century link which is unreliable. Absolutely the best ISP I've ever had. Just a short bio, I have over 6 years of electronics and electrical engineering education. I've spent years installing and setting up LAN's and WAN's and integrated AV systems both analog and digital. I've developed intranets and extranets for businesses around the Twin Cities and I designed and built my last 5 computers. I'm now a building contractor but my primary hobby is electronics so an amature I am not. I've had cable, DSL and now US Internet fiber. There is absolutely no comparison in speed or dependability. USI wired our neighborhood in the summer of 2012. They offered 50 meg service, that's both up and down, not just down, for $30/month. I was more than doubling my download speed and I won't even get into the exponential improvement in upload speeds, while simultaneously reducing my monthly bill by over 65%. Pretty much a no brainer. A++ for price. I signed up right away. Over the last 4 years, I've had two outages. The first one was resolved by updating my credit card information which had changed, the second was resolved with a quick reboot of my gateway and router. I'd have that many problems every few months with a cable modem and every few weeks with DSL so A++ for reliability. I just bounced over to speedtest.net to check my current speed and clocked a 49 meg down and 51 meg up. A++ for speed. I'd love to check the bad reviews on this site to see how many of them carry Comcast or CenturyLink employee cards. All manufacturers have the occasional defective modem or gateway but as for USI, they're the absolute best in the Twin Cities bar none. read more

I can only conclude that the basic rates they were starting with all over town after laying the cables was a "come on" rate that I fell for. I have fiber optic service from US Internet in Uptown Minneapolis. I use HULU streaming service. For the past number of weeks I have had problem with HULU log on and my cellphone showing no SIM card. After speaking to HULU they had suspended my service due various IP address log ins. HULU said I needed a static IP address. I spoke with US internet and said I had to request a static IP address at time of installation. Now I have to wait 2-3 for a static IP address. read more

Tip: Wait until you are live before cancelling your current internet provider, and you will be satisfied with the experience. While I had some initial problems after signing up with US Internet, they have resolved these issues and I am extremely happy with my service now. During my first couple months, I would get occasional dropouts of service that would last for a couple minutes and happen every few minutes. This would happen for a few hours at a time and then disappear for a week or so. This made troubleshooting difficult. I also did not have a great experience with customer service while troubleshooting. Every time I would call, they would tell me to connect my computer to the wall directly to ensure my router wasn't causing the problems. The problem is neither my laptop nor my wife's has an ethernet port, as many do not today, so this was impossible. My router has the capability to do the same diagnostics I would run from a computer, but they wouldn't listen to me. As a computer engineer, I'm a bit knowledgeable in this space. Finally, almost every time, I would have to tear my entertainment center apart and connect my Xbox to the wall directly before they would acknowledge the problem was on their end. However, it would always start working again before a technician ever came. This cycle continued for a couple months and it grew very frustrating. I left an initial bad review here and in other places. Fortunately, after I did that, Sam reached out to me via phone. In my opinion, this should've happened before I left bad reviews online. However, once Sam started working with me, everything was so much better. He called and texted with me, constantly following up as we tried different things. As it turned out, US Internet only needed to have a technician connect my apartment to a different port on the building switch. I guess the port I was in was malfunctioning. After that fix was made, the service has been outstanding. I pay for 1 Gbps and constantly get between 100-200 Mbps on all my devices, which is basically limited by my router's WiFi connection speed (I don't have AC yet). We use Playstation Vue for TV and all of the major streaming services regularly, and this connection allows us to stream all of our entertainment without any issues at all. It has been a vast improvement over Comcast, and for only a small price increase, I went from 50 Mbps to 1 Gbps. They also don't seem to throttle certain connections like Comcast does with some of the streaming services. I'm so glad there is a real alternative to Comcast and am very happy with this service now. read more

When I moved into my apartment, USI had not yet been installed, so I was forced to use Comcast for my internet and cable. I only wanted the Internet piece, but with Comcast, the Internet was cheaper if bundled with basic cable. Once my promotion ran out, my bill tripled, and I was paying over $100 for Internet and about 70 cable channels. I cancelled my Comcast service on the spot, without really thinking through my other options. I found the advertisement for USI and called them about 5 minutes after getting off the phone with Comcast. I'm not exaggerating when I say I had wireless through USI no more than 15 minutes later. I'm still amazed at how quick and easy the entire process was, and kicking myself for not doing it sooner. I worked with Joshua D., and he walked me through the entire process seamlessly. I had my own equipment, so I was able to keep my wireless username and password. I'm getting double the speed I had with Comcast for about 1/3 of the price, and the wireless has worked great so far!
