I've been really pleased with CenturyLink. I have had their service for two months so far. I moved into a new apartment in Bloomington which had a CenturyLink modem pre-installed. This was a fiber-to-the-home connection, complete with a fiber optic cable I could actually look at in the closet. When I activated the service, which was really quick and easy, I got about 50 Megabits per second over the modem's built in wi-fi router. When I wired my laptop directly to the switch, however, I easily got the rated 500 Mbps I was paying for in an online speedtest. Don't use the built-in wifi router. I purchased high quality Unifi equipment, and I easily get 4x faster speeds than I did when I only had the built-in wifi access point. read more

I had Century Link internet for 2 years because I had no other options in my area. The signal quality was terrible, often had to use my phone data instead as it was down frequently. I called to cancel my service when I finally had another option and it is nearly impossible to get a human on the phone. After hours of arguing with their chat bot I finally got a human who promised me they would stop further bills. A week later I got an email saying they were charging my account. I went through the drama of getting customer service again and they assured me I would not be billed. The next day I had $83.43 removed from my bank account for a service I no longer have access to as I long ago returned the modem. Now they are saying I can't cancel "mid billing cycle" and they won't refund the mon of service I don't even have access to. Bunch of liars. read more

This has got to be the most incompetent telecommunications company around. Their lack of security is truly shocking. They allowed my phone number to be ported to a hacker. They retrieved it, I set up a pass code. After this, not once, but twice, the hacker reaquired the number by simply calling CenturyLink. About a week ago, our telephone was working sporadically. I scheduled a tech (had to wait 3 days). The tech calls me and says it needs more work than he can do, so I have to reschedule. He doesn't reschedule for me, I have to go online and redo it. The 2nd tech never shows up. I have to online again, and struggle through the stupid AI chat before I get a human being. Then I'm told I have to wait a WEEK before anyone can look at the problem. Why am I wasting my money with Centurylink? Because we wanted a working phone in case cell phone service was lost. This company has the absolute worst customer service in existence. You start off speaking with a bot that uses flowery language that tries to love bomb you, but has the opposite effect on me. It comes off as condescending and by the end of the infuriating interaction (that goes on forever) you'd rather poke your eye out with a spork that deal with them another second. I was without internet for a month after a landscaper accidentally cut the line while digging, and CL repeatedly (4 times) sent out the wrong kind of technicians to fix the problem. We switched to quantum fiber a while back, I went with a plan that is $80 a month. Well, my situation changed and I tried to use their customer service portal to downgrade to a $59 a month plan. Their system gave me confirmation two seperate times but they keep billing me $80. I have tried talking to their customer service many times and they all tell me to try again. I'm now 100% sure they just don't want to downgrade it because they would loose money. read more

Do not get service with Centurylink! They have the worst service and bad internet connection. I live in Litchfield Park AZ and their service lags all the time! When I cancelled their service I was told that the final bill will be prorated, but it wasn't. I repeatedly called and even chatted online with them to correct the final bill and the result was the same - pay the full month! I cancelled their service on 1/7/26 so now I have to pay the full January. Wow! My Dad is 86 years old and has not had service for a month. Everyday I get a call to my cell phone saying they will be there to fix it. Everyday we lock up the dogs and wait. No show and then another text saying they will be here next week. What happens if my Dad has a medical emergency and cannot call 911! Terrible, especially when I read similar posts. Then they charge you double and triple monthly. I have to make a phone call and argue with their incompetent staff EVERY MONTH!!!! Constantly having to reboot the NEW modem I was sent yet again. I have used Centurylink since 2006 and been happy with it until recently. I had to upgrade the modem/router as the old one was "retired" and would not work with some new solar equipment. Then the following started to happen: First Centurylink gave option of paper bills or email / internet. Then they forced a fee to force customers to use only the internet for billing. Now they are blackmailing their customers to force them to use autopay by not accepting payment that their own system does accept and gives a confirmation number to the customer. The customer is not aware of this till a postal letter comes which states the bill is late and a late fee will be charged. Further when conversing with their customer service, the customer is told the late fee will be waived if they sign up for autopay. They also use a fictional lie stating the bank that was to send the payment called it back which per my bank never happened. They actually never sent the request for funds from the bank and stopped it within their computer services. I have been happy with the internet plan, price, and reliability. Yet BEWARE OF THE CORRUPT PRACTICES THIS COMPANY IS MOVING INTO. I still like the product and the new router/modem. But their customer service billing people are becoming shifty and untrustable. This is the worst customer service I ever had. My internet was off & on recently. It's non-existent at night & then in the morning it's back. Last Thursday, I completely lost it. Called the CS, they were able to fix it. By Friday its gone, called CS which was extremely hard to go through bec. Their staff are Indians. I was told I had to wait, the available date is 11/12 today. I begged to do something about it because I have online classes & this week are midterm exams. To no avail, so today is Wednesday. out of necessity, I waited all day first they said from 8am until 430. Then 12:30 pm to 430pm. No one showed up. I called at 3pm as I couldn't wait any longer& was told it's coming, right now it's past 5pm - no one showed up, ugh Century link, so so so disappointing. This is the most abusive relationship I have ever been in . My service consistently quits working , I call customer service and on the phone for hours trying to get technical assistance . Once I get a technician scheduled they're automated system says my problem is resolved and they cancel the technician . The problem still persists so I am on the phone for several more hours trying to get a technician out . I tell them when I will not be home they assure me he will not come between those hours and then I get a phone call that he showed up I wasn't there so I have to reschedule . In the meantime I have no internet , my kids are unable to log on and do their homework , and they continue to Bill me . I was with support for 4 hours and they told me my devices worked fine my connection was fine and yet I was not getting internet service they offered me a great plan to upgrade however it would be a week to connect this upgraded plan I said in the meantime could you make my current internet work and they said no we can't do that if that's not a scam I don't know what is. Terrible customer service. They have had our internet down for over a week. They won't tell us anything. Finally found a tech out working on the issue and asked whats the reason were down. Tech said they were adding new lines to the new construction, so they didn't have the right amount of ports. So they took down a large area of homes who have been with them for 6 years plus and hooked up the empty homes so they can test. Make the paying customer suffer while we test a bunch of empty houses. I have internet and phone service with CL and, for the most part, I've been satisfied. My biggest problem is that I haven't been able to log in to pay my bill for the last few months. The Captcha feature hasn't been letting me through, and no matter what number I call, I can't get CL to fix the problem. They just want me to pay my bill over the phone. I want the on-line confirmation of payment. Why on earth would they not want to accept my on-line payment? I'm going to have to get service elsewhere if they don't fix their system. read more

Customer service is an actual joke and good luck connecting with live person on the phone or even finding a number that can direct you to customer service. I had to use reddit to find a number to call. When I called I got redirected then hung up on. This all started when I tried to set up my internet. They said they'll be at my house between 8am and 5pm to set up my internet. Pretty big window to stop by if you ask me, and there was no notice about a more specific time they would show up. I'm sorry but I'm not going to wait around for 8 hours, trapped in my house waiting for them. Furthermore, I have dogs that would've needed to be put away before they showed up. I stored out of my house, which happened to be at the time they arrived. I received no calls, texts, or messages saying they were there. There was also no notification that they did show up and had to leave. I had to talk with a "support member" through their live chat to find out what happened. Communication is non existent and good luck talking to someone other than a bot or someone in India. I wish I could give negative stars read more

We cancelled Centurylink June of 2024 because we were moving. It is now January of 2025 and they still were billing us. Unfortunately, we did not realize they were still billing us. We have notes of the cancellation, but they tell us today that they don't see any notes about our June call. That is almost $1,000 that they took. read more

God forbid the router goes out because they refuse to change the name on the account and will refuse service to you as well because the original account holder has to sign off on the transfer that had already happened over a year ago but the system never updated. Our landline has been out since 7/18 in Chaska, MN. I have had similar service outages recently, and expected it would be back on Monday 7/21, as it had previously. When it wasn't, I went to repair services chat, was asked to unplug and re-plug my phone several times. This, after I had told the chat agent that I had tested my line at the network interface outside of the house and the line was dead. Dead as in no voltage at all, and the line was not shorted (I checked with an ohm meter). I got a service ticket, and scheduled an appointment for 7/24 (the first I could get). I received several texts indicating that the tech was scheduled for today, between 12:00PM and 4:00PM. When I went to the link where I could track the arrival time, the link timed out several times. I went to the century link website directly to check my appointments, and it said I didn't have any when searching by ticket number or phone number. I tried the chat link on https://dssr.centurylink.com, but it failed because it required Javascript, which I didn't have and represents a security risk. Even after installing Javascript, chat still didn't work. I finally tried the troubleshooter at https://ssc.centurylink.com, and it found my ticket and told me I was scheduled for a 4:00PM tech visit. I had to go to centurylink.com and troubleshoot my phone before it showed me a link where it found my ticket. The link was buried their repair site, which apparently doesn't have working link to the main century link site. This is ridiculous. They don't even bother the keep their websites up to date! Switching to VOIP soon: It's 1/6 the price and without the terrible service. read more

And trying to talk to a live person is almost impossible. They then messed up my service call twice. The first service call the technician stated that he came out and completed the installment, however that did not happen he never showed up. So then I had to wait another 2 weeks for an available technician to come out. When he got there he said his order was to repair the phone line when in fact I had called to transfer the phone line. So now I have to wait another 2 weeks to send another technician out.... If I had any other choice I would go with it, however that is not an option I have to go through CenturyLink. I cancelled my service back in March of 2024 and did everything they asked. My bill was paid in full with both Centurylink and Directv. In December 2024, I received a notification on my credit report that I had a collections on my account from Centurylink. I called in and they said I did not have a balance and that it was from Directv. I called Directv and they confirmed no balance. I called back to Centurylink and explained everything and that it had to be a balance from them as I never paid Directv directly. I asked to speak to a supervisor because nobody was able to say why I have an outstanding balance, why I was never notified until now and what the charges are for. One of the customer service representatives said he was going to transfer me to someone who could help and he transferred me to the automated billing and payments line, so essentially hanging up on me. I now have this collections notice on my credit report and not ONE person at Centurylink can explain why or make it go away. They just keep redirecting me to to other people. I just changed cell phones to a Pixel phone. It has been 3 weeks without access to Centurylink email even though I have been trying to contact Centurylink. Centurylink must believe it is cheaper to have chat bots, than customer service reps. I've been put in the endless loupe of chat- bots and another endless requests for me to rate their service. Funny thing happens, if you try to rate them low, they send your review to an error message, stating I don't have access. Buyer beware, stick with the more expensive Xfinity. When our scheduled date arrived,we received a message that they needed to reschedule for the next day. They told us our scheduled time was from 12:30 to 4:30. Well, come 5:00 when NO ONE had showed up we get another message stating they needed to reschedule us AGAIN, and our next appointment wouldn't be for another 3 weeks!!!!! Terrible customer service and not the company they used to be. We had been with CenturyLink for almost a decade and a half. They had always been great with addressing issues and correcting problems until recently. We had a series of dozens of service outages over the span of several months. Some would last a few minutes to a half hour and several lasted a a few days to almost a week which is a pretty big issue when working from home. They offered to credit us for the days the service was down but that amounts to less than $2 a day which is laughable compared to the inconvenience involved. After discussing with them, there was little in the way of understanding on their part. We were told that the outages may or may not continue happening and there was nothing more they could do to correct the outages or reimburse us. Highly disappointing.
