I've read all these reviews about Direct TV and unfortunately agree. I've battled with them for 4 months over a stupid receiver that they finally replaced with an old receiver. I will not commit to 24 months with them to get a Genie. So i threatened to cancel and very quickly got another receiver and they sweetened the deal with Showtime free for 3 months. I already had discounts but they didn't appear in my last bill. I called and they couldn't find any record of it. The money wasn't the big deal. It's the lies that made me furious. I called Dish and almost signed on (agreeing to a 24 month contract which I can't stand) when Dish wanted a credit card for my credit check. That stopped the whole deal. I pressed the sales rep and the credit card is for equipment security. So I stopped that call. I called Direct back when my wife showed me the mistake Direct made on my bill. They still wouldn't give me the credit so I lost it and told them to cancel my service on the last day of the current billing cycle. All of a sudden - they FOUND the mistake on my billing. I had the guy itemize my next bill and e mail it to me. I really don't know if one is better than the other. I do hear more good things about Dish and their technology is certainly better. But I'm afraid of jumping out of the frying pan into the "fire". I've been a customer with Direct since 2001 and they always thank me for that. But they don't mean it. Will there ever be anyone else?? read more

Been long time since I had DirecTV.... Got it since cable wasn't available where I moved... Never planned to give them another chance after having poor customer service and a signal that never survived a thunderstorm!! WOW, I'm impressed now after 2 yrs of service... No trouble with signal even when it rains... And they not only take your call with a actual person... Their helpful with your questions... Their not perfect since its expensive (as are the competition)... My DVR gave out last week but got new one fedex to door in 2 days........ They even called later to see if things were good.... I'm impressed. read more

Great picture but terrible customer service. Most people have accents or are reading so fast it's hard to understand (extra difficult when the people with thick accents speed up their script explaining the products and prices). Spent 2 hours on the phone talking to 3 different people. First guy hung up on me after 30 minutes and had my number as they recite at beginning of call, "Is this the number to reach you on should we get disconnected?" Well he never reached out so I called back and same thing after about 30 minutes. 3rd time I call, I get an American that speaks perfect English and is sympathizing with me after I explain everything. In my mind I'm ecstatic because the conversation is staying on track and not going on various tangents of products I don't want. I tell her I'm unhappy with my bill spike to $234 from $192, which I already thought was high. My internet is high speed, 6mps, and some of the worst internet I've had. No different than 3.5 mps. I asked to have that moved to 3.5 mps and cancel my soccer channels. She mentioned I had a discount that expired was taking $40 off the bill and she was putting another discount on there to save $40. I'm very appreciative at this point. We end the convo, all is well and my new bill is to be $164. Next billing cycle happens and what do you know, I saved $6. It was $228. I called and this guy speaks robot English and you can tell it isn't his first language. Very scripted, no human factor. I tell him I'm cancelling and I've had it. I had to say I want to cancel probably 20 times before I got to cancel. I asked him what my current package was and he listed everything I thought was changed. 6 mps, soccer channels, no discount applied. 2.5 hours of time to go through loops and get no where. Shove it up your a** directv. read more

Worst customer service I have experienced. Was told by a department one thing and when the tech showed up to do the work it was another thing. Called customer service and was told he could waive part of the fee I was never told about. Asked to speak to manager. Less than two hours later I spoke to a manager and was told the person I just spoke with was incorrect. They could not waive the fee. In less than 2 days I got multiple different incorrect information and when I wanted the fee waived due to their constant incorrect information, they told me no. read more

Want to spend your Saturday waiting all day for a DIRECT TV TECH only for them NOT TO SHOW?! I had a window from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm then I get a call from DIRECT TV recording telling me it would be around 5:00. Later on technician called to tell me 6-6:30...GUESS WHAT...no one ever showed up! I had technician's cell/time of call he made to me for proof and CUSTOMER SERVICE did not even have the common courtesy to allow me to speak with a manager/supervisor as they were all "to busy" so dismissively asked me to reschedule for another time. Just WOW I'm absolutely blown away that this is how they treat loyal customers such as myself AND exactly WHO do they hold accountable for their screw ups/mistakes for wrecking a customer's Saturday...apparently none of their own! PATHETIC! XFinity needs to come to SOUTHLAKE, DALLAS/FT WORTH area ASAP!! I'm done with AT&T Direct TV! read more

I have NEVER experienced such frustration with a company like this!! Horrible customer service, endless hold times, transfer over and over, terrible system. I've had this dish on my house for two months and not one single day of uninterrupted service. Five technicians visits, and still not correct. I would give them minus 5 stars if I could. Please go with someone else for TV. read more

Absolute worst installation experience of my life. First crew didn't know what they were doing. We're at my home for 5 hours and the straightforward installation wasn't completed. They left my house after 7pm and LEFT ALL OF MY FURNITURE WITH TVs ON IT PULLED AWAY FROM THE WALLS. Absolutely unacceptable to leave someone's home in this condition. Called to complain and schedule another installation for 2 weeks later with a more tenured crew.....THEY WERE A NO SHOW! My wife took a half day off of work, only to be rewarded with nothing. Unacceptable customer service. Reporting to BBB. read more

GET NETFLIX. DirectTV is the biggest ripoff ever. Expensive for what you receive. Really bad image, poor channel selection. Horrible customer service. They make you waist so much time. They say the same stupid things like a machine "I understand" "Hello" "How are you" "I am happy you are doing good" and then when they just talk about your problem they are arrogant, poorly customer oriented and always, always the customer lose. Their online policies are different than the policies they make you sign once the are installing the service. BE CAREFUL. They tide you to a 24 months contract and they never tell you when you are buying the service. And the cancellation policies THAT ARE NOT THE SAME AS THE ONLINE CANCELLATION POLICY doesn't consider customer unsatisfaction, which means that if they give you the worst service LIKE THEY DO you can do nothing but paying to them. This is against any consumer right. DirecTV is the worst. STAY AWAY, DONT USE THEIR SERVICE (REALLY CAN YOU CALL THAT SERVICE?) read more

Been a long time Directv customer (over 20 yrs), but their equipment and service has hit rock bottom. Their wireless genie is so bad and when you call them they do not seem to care. Not sure how in the world they can claim that they are the highest rated they must be paying people off. I will be looking for alternatives soon. read more

For second time I had to call them to get services I never signed up for removed from my bill. Took over 25 minutes as they constantly had to transfer me and tried to sell me the services they put on I never asked for. Incredibly dishonest company. read more

If I could give Direct TV a "0" I would. They have terrible customer service and no consideration of anything outside of their rulebook. Canceled my service due to transfer and new hoa doesn't allow satellite dishes....period. Been with them over a year and a half. Always paid my bills, paid installation charge when hooked up even though everything was in place when we moved in. Charging me 200 plus for cancellation fee. Have had 4 calls since cancellation asking why and transferring me from account executives to customer service reps each saying they would waive the cost. Last lady I talked to basically said it was my fault for signing the contract. I feel harassed, mad, and more unhappy now than when I was first told about the fee. The service has never been great with lost signals, hundreds of useless channels and continuous bombardment of advertising that I don't need, now badgering because I cancelled. I would not go back if they paid me. Do they think telling me 4 times it was my fault will make me less angry? I don't think so. Cable companies may be bad but this takes the cake. read more

They add things to your bill and refuse to take it off if you don't pay them! Especially when you haven't ordered anything! They aren't worth it! I would completely save your money and go with someone else. Plus their customer service is horrible! You start talking to someone and another person answers when you are on hold read more

I am giving them 1 star because I must. Yelp will not allow me to give no starts. DirecTV requires a 2 year contract which they do not explain clearly upfront. If you need to cancel early, then they hit you with a $20 per month on the unfulfilled portion of the contract. I had issues with their bundle partner AT&T DSL. I canceled the entire package because I needed internet. It wasn't resolved after 3 weeks and over 10 calls. RUN from DirecTV. read more

They are okay as far as programming. However, customer service is horrible and the $200 gift card promised at sign up does not exist.

directtv customer service is horrible. they set an appointment for me to be home between 12-4 and never showed up. i called numerous times and could never get anybody to actually show up. i am a current customer and all i needed was for them to bring 1 hd receiver! i could install it myself!!! i was never offered an explanation as to why they didn't show up and when i asked for a supervisor they told me there was nobody available. so i wasted 7 hours of my day dealing with this and i still don't have my box. bad review bad review bad review read more

Whatever you do..... don't get new equipment!!!! Even if your current equipment fails. If you do they underhandedly, unashamedly put you in a NEW 2 year contract WITHOUT YOUR AGREEMENT Or KNOWLEDGE!!!! NO-ONE TOLD ME THAT, while there equipment failed, and THEY suggested I get new equipment, explained that this constitutes a new 2 year agreement. This is deceptive practice. I learned this 5 months after my equipment was installed, bill skyrocketed and I called to cancel service. I learned at that time that new equipment means new contract. So.....what I was supposed to do was continue to pay out my contract with equipment that failed, no service. So where was the INTEGRITY??? This company secures themselves a customer by keeping you in contract with full deception that you are in a new agreement by SUGGESTING you get new updated equipment. DURING my contract, shouldn't I have complete, working service? So disappointed in this backhanded way to insure that I continue wit DT. So dishonest. So disgusted! read more

Has anyone else been scammed by DirecTV and not received their reward? This is absolutely unbelievable! Signed up in April 2017 and was promised a $200 reward card. Started calling in June, then every 3 - 4 weeks, to ask where about my reward card. First it wasn't ready, then it should be there, then they said we can't figure out why you haven't received in. Last call in mid-August a Customer Care supervisor told me it would be investigated and would call me back. Never called. I called tonight and a supervisor said there's nothing they can do because it's now after 120 days that I signed up. WHAT? They had me call Customer Care back because they thought they would surely give me a credit on my bill. No way. They don't have a record of all these calls and said it's too late for them to add a credit. WHAT? You can add a credit anytime....!!! It's a total scam. Unbelievable. I am going to start looking for another service and will not pay an early termination fee because they are not living up to their side of the deal. read more

We left Time Warner Cable because they kept increasing the charges each month and then telling us they gave us extra channels that we didn't ask for or need. So we switched to DirectTV and could only get the satellite services as they didn't have Internet available. We were fine for the first couple of months and then they started charging close to $200 per month so we call and they allegedly fixed the problem and our bill was to be somewhere around $110.00 per month. Checked my bill today and it's almost $200 AGAIN. They are either going to get this right today or i'm permanently DONE with them! If there is one more bill that is outrageous, then they won't be able to charge me another outrageous bill. read more

i'm asking you to read and share my story so it don't happen to you . i moved from city to city, and i called to disconnect services till we closed on our new house. so when we moving in here i called direct tv to have my services moved over to here. i was told then i had an outstanding balance and had to pay it first. i spoke to a rep and she said they did not stop my services so after going through the reviews she could see my calls . finally she said she credited me now i had to pay $ 90.00 so i paid it thinking its for moving services, they had a tech to come out to install the dish on friday. he was here over 5 hours then said we just need to hook hdmi cable its ready. wrong... he left without finishing the complete install. so i had no tv the weekend , i kept getting phone call to set appointment for tech to complete work, on monday morning i called got appointment for today , wednesday @ 8-12 am. good. right ? i got a call at 6:45 am saying he will be here at 8:'8:30. i'm outside waiting for him when he calls asking me where am i ? i am waiting on you. he repeated the address he was given and direct tv / att sent him to my old address. he said he was going to call to get a tech here but he never called me back. i called direct tv and let them know whats going on. i'm disabled. no tv , no phone no way to get helpif needed. i'm being bullied into paying for 12 months when i'm not even hooked up yet. the catcher is direct tv says they can't come out till the 18th next week they said if i don't continue services i have to pay for the 12 month and disconnect fee's. why ? its not my fault and why do i have to continue with the company that can't come to my house when scheduled? i'm being bullied by direct tv. she said i am comittted to the year even if its not installed. this means they can continue to not show up to right house and keep rescheduling each time but i still have no services. please let everyone know what happened to me so it don't happen to you. how can they have the right to choose and i don't. i wanted to cancel and just go elsewhere. i will never be happy with this horrible company after this. i'm now still no tv, no phone, no way of knowing if my life is in danger. cant watch the news. i refuse to let them bully me. pass along whats happening to me by corp. read more

I try my best to leave a mix of positive and negative reviews on yelp. I don't want to be negative Nancy only leaving negative reviews but I have to say I am so fed up with DirectTV after a customer of 20+ years they deserve this bad review. I would have given them one star but they tend not to publish one star reviews. The service is horrible. Now I cannot use on-demand or record anything despite having a functional Internet. Out where I live there are very few choices for television but AT&T is coming soon for Internet and I think I will finally be able to cut my ties with this company that I have suffered with for 20 years. You would think that they would do something for loyal customers but no. And I have to wait for another two weeks before a technician can come out on Saturday. I work in the hospital and cannot take off half a day just waiting for a television repair man. No discount offered no credit offered just the standard sorry not my department there's nothing I can do. When I found out a couple years ago that they were overcharging me they never made to efforts to rectify it. The service goes out when the wind blows too hard. No one listens to your problems when you try and call Lynn and explain what is going on they just sit there and read from their script. You cannot deviate from the script they do not have human interactions. This last service call I had to listen to the customer service rep go off on her own personal family history about taking care of an elderly father etc. etc. Lady I don't care about you and your elderly father I just want to stop the excusesFor the ineptitude and fix a basic function on my television that I pay an extraordinarily high amount for every month. Again are used to be incredibly loyal to DirectTV you know I can't wait to get rid of it. They do nothing to try and earn me back as the customer they could care less about their customers from what I can tail I surely don't care about me read more

I have discontinued my service with DirecTV. I have tried to speak with a supervisor on the phone but with no luck! The representative is not professional at all! All I need is a written statement stating how much my early termination fee was.... NO one seems to be able to help me...why??? Besides DIRECTV outlandish prices, customer service is HORRIBLE! Had DirecTV for over two years, and cancelled due to horrible customer service, and billing issues every month. Went to another provider for a year, and decided to try again, due to merging with AT&T and the sports packages. BIG mistake! Hadn't even installed the satellite yet, and had to call customer service 4 different times, due to them not scheduling the technician the right day, then the technician not showing up, despite online confirmation. Then was promised a $100 credit due to their poor service. Requested email confirmation of this credit, because I knew better than to trust that person's word. Was told they couldn't do that (they were very rude), but got a confirmation number for the call. Call the next day, and guess what? They don't do credits for poor customer service and problems with installation. I gave you two chances DirecTV. Shame on me! read more

I am a new customer to Direct TV, we just ordered in the middle of the December. It does not surprise me in the least to see all the negative reviews for DirectTV, they have the worst customer service in the business. Their first setup was on Dec 26th when they convinced me to switch to wireless, after the technician being her for 5 hours and still could not get it to work. They have since sent 4 other technicians out to my house who could not make it work and I still do not have full cable in my apartment. As you can see I hardly post on yelp, and the only post I have made was to show what good service I received from a company. If it were possible to give them less than one star I would give them a negative rating! AT&T has been helpful through the process when I have talked to them about my issues, but they will no doubt lose future business because of the Direct TV customer service. If anyone has any advice of how to get my issues corrected please let me know! read more

We put up with DirecTV because their customer service was better than the cable companies ... WAS. Now it takes several calls to get a simple change made while putting up with English-challenged reps who waste no time to argue about why they did not do things right the first time. It's almost as if they are punishing the customer for not wanting to do everything online. I won't lie: I now despise DirecTV as much as I once despised the cable companies. read more

I am giving DirectTv 3 stars for programming and picture quality. Their marketing and service issues is very suspect though. I called customer service today because I have been getting the service code 771 for over a week. I checked the possible fixes to no avail. Called CS to request a technician because their equipment was not functioning correctly. I was informed that it would cost me $99 for a technician to come and fix their equipment or pay $8.95 a month for service repairs as needed. It irritates me that I have to pay anything for them to repair or replace their equipment. I will be dropping DirectTV as soon as my contract ends. They initially tried to sell me Direct TV and att internet. The could not deliver the internet to my area of town. They attempted to raise my bill because I did not have two of the three services offered. I let them know that I did sign up for two services but they were the ones that did not deliver what I signed up for by contract. I will not be renewing with DirectTV. read more

The absolute WORST. Installer called to say he was on his way, never showed. I was like, WHAT??? Yes, I have to call back on the exact date of 9/15 or they will charge me the $40.00! UNFORTUNATELY, they hold our current apt bldg hostage, as they are the only provider unless we go with an antenna, which many residents have chosen to do, as DirecTV is so expensive and provides pitiful poor customer service!!! read more

Was a customer for two years--paid my bill on time every time. When I cancelled because fees were too high, they went ahead and charged me for an extra month. Then, realizing their mistake before the bill came out, they sent me a "cash card" for a random amount in hopes that I would wink at their mistake. I spent two months, three chats, and three phone calls (each call being transferred around to yet another person who had no idea what was going on) and they refused to correct the bill, since they were billing me for the cash card (which I had not requested). In the final chat, they finally offered a reasonable explanation for the apparent random amount. But even though I had made it clear how much time and effort I had made to get things clear, they offered no apology. When I hinted on the chat for an apology, they offered none. Even told me to pay the bill rather than apologize. AT&T and DirecTV--they make no apology for their incompetence. Or perhaps no apology demonstrates their incompetence? read more

Directv is AWFUL!!!! In 2010 I was laid off from my job and had to cancel my directv account because I couldn't afford it any longer. I received a bill in the mail for a $400 cancellation fee and the very next day they automatically deducted that amount from my bank account without my consent. After four years of fighting them they are finally refunding the money back into my account. Last month they said the money would be deposited back into my bank but it still hasn't shown up. Very time I call them they give me inconsistent statements on the status of the refund. They informed me that a check was mailed to my address in dallas, tx on April 11, 2014. As of today, 04/25/2014, I still have not received the funds. I believe they are lying and giving me the run around. I will never recommend directv. read more

I'D GIVE NO STARS AT ALL....but Yelp wouldn't let me post without at least one. DO NOT sign up for Direct TV. If you do, DO NOT sign up for ACH (direct withdrawl) from your account. They took over $400.00 from my acct. without notifying me. I cancelled my service thinking I had a year contract. Was told that I signed a 24 month contract when techs came to set up the service. (I did not read the form they handed me) Thought I was signing their service contract. Anyhow. my complaint is the fact that they can legally take money from your account with out consent. The only way to get my money back is to sign back up with them and complete the remaining 8 months of the 24 month contract. I did this after an hour plus trying to get customer service to understand. I was told repeatedly that my account was in excellent standing and I would be offered a great deal if I sign back up. I mean, I was told this by 2 different reps several times and then again by the supervisor. Uuuuuggghhh. I heard I'm so sorry so many times I wanted to scream. (I'm a nice person and hate making these types of calls) SOL as I was, I said "OK" because as a single Mom, living paycheck to paycheck, I can not afford to have $400 dollars randomly taken out of my account. By the way, this caused all sorts of problems, including two INS fees. I was told that by signing back up, the money would be put back into my account with in 72 hours by the Supervisor. Guess what it's been four days and nothing. I called back today and was told - yep you guessed it. "MY account is in excellent standing and am getting a great deal by signing back up", and about fifty "I'm sorries"... but I won't see any money until I am reactivated. I HATE this company and once my 8 months is up, I am done. I advise EVERYONE that is even remotely thinking of using this service to find another provider. Not only is their customer service trained like robots reading scripts, they should even be titled CSR's. The cable service is lacking compared to the others out there and the price is ridiculous when they can't even provide internet. There is so much more involved, but it would take days to type it all. This is the first time I have ever complained about a company. I signed up on "Yelp" just for this. Doesn't solve anything, but I wanted to warn others. Good luck... read more
