I have been with Direct TV for years and years and years...As soon as I am able I will be switching to another carrier for television services. Recently signed up for the Genie all home service and in one of the guest bedrooms found out the box would not power on. Thought it would be a simple process to call the company and have them send a new unit to replace the broken one. They sure will, at the cost of $19.95. Oh and if you want to have a technician come and service THEIR non functioning equipment... be prepared to pay $45.00 to get them to your house. DO NOT GET DIRECT TV!!! They lock you into a two year agreement which they can change the prices at anytime. The prices in your contract apparently can change whenever they feel like putting an expiration date on it. For example, I've had DIRECT TV for a year this month and next month they want me to start paying $50 more than what I'm paying now just for cable! By far the worst customer service ever. The Directv to go is not true. You can't watch anything of your recorded programs on your mobile device unless your connected to WiFi. I was on the phone waiting for a manager for over 20 minutes when the agent put me through the endless phone prompts. I could not get back to that department in Louisiana. I called back and ended up at a call center in the Philippines. They could not transfer me to the retention department. I have been on hold now for over 25 minutes after the endless phone prompts. I live in Chicago Illinois it snowed here this is February 10th I called them to complain about the interruption of my service for the last couple of days. How interesting- I wrote a scathingly negative review of our experience with DirecTV about a year ago and included a particularly ridiculous e-mail response I'd received from a DirecTV employee- lots of people found it "useful"- and it now seems to have vanished from Yelp. Well, I'm back with a freshly negative experience! Suck it, DirecTV! I DESPISE you. I'd rather have no TV at all then deal with the lobotomized half-wits you call employees. We always had Comcast before and I'm happy to report that we're moving the hell out of our building which limited us to DirecTV, so we're CANCELLING! But wait- it's not so easy to cancel the devil. We had no idea whether we would renew the lease or move in a year. Obviously, we didn't move but we would not have known what would be happening and therefore, we would not have agreed to a 2-year contract. Anyway, we signed up through some rep for the building. So, the woman starts arguing with my husband and until he asks her to send him a signed copy of the alleged agreement. Guess what? They don't have one. Again, I must say: SUCK IT DIRECTV!! Now, we're going to be mailing back the equipment (because unlike Comcast, they don't have any offices anywhere convenient. I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years. Each time I moved, I continued to use their service. I recently moved into a condo building who was forced to change service, as they went through Access Media who was a supplier of DirecTV and they were so absolutely horrible in providing the DirecTV service, that our building was allowed to change the service in our whole building. When I called to cancel my individual service, I was put on hold for 30 minutes so the operator could "speak to the supervisor" about waiving a CANCELLATION FEE. This is a condo building. The operator gets back on the phone and let's me know that it's federal regulation that I must pay $20 a month for the next 11 months because in addition to having their service in our building, I also had been paying for two extra receivers and it's a penalty because I've canceled. DirecTV, you have just made a very bad judgement call on a customer who has been with you for 20 some years to not waive a lousy $220 fee. Shame on you direcTV. P.S. Get a new supervisor, he or she made a horrible decision, not to mention the absolutely rude customer service representative. I wish I would have taken her name. She was the worst. For the record. I've been w Direct TV for eight years in Texas before relocating to the Chicago area. After 3.5 hours on the phone talking to multiple representative we agreed on the product and the installation to relocate my Direct TV service from Texas to my home in the Chicago area. Direct TV started charging me for service on September 2, the date of that phone call. My free installation was not scheduled until September 17. When the installer arrived he could not or would not perform the installation he was scheduled to perform. He would do a different installation w different products for $100. He called Direct TV to get the $100 waived and waited 30 minutes for a reply that never came. He left without installing anything. I tried multiple times to get an installation rescheduled. I spent hours and hours on hold. I talked to several representatives over multiple attempts who put me on hold many times and eventually the call was disconnected. My receivers were never installed. The Direct TV dish was never installed. I finally gave up on relocating my Direct TV and called to cancel my account on October 2. After explaining all of this to the rep she said my account would not be credited back to the date they started charging me for service I never had (September 2). To add insult to injury she said I would be charged an cancellation fee. I asked to speak to a manager. After putting me on hold for 10 minutes the rep said "due to the high call volume a manager is not able to speak to you (me)". This is how Direct TV treats an existing customer. If you are considering Direct TV you will be treated the same way. Call any one else. I only give Direct TV one star because that is the minimum allowed. I am certain it will take many phone calls to cancel my Directv account. Direct TV does not respond to emails and their chat line cannot do anything useful. I am now w Level 3 TV. The phone was answered without any time on hold. My installation was scheduled the following day. I only gave one star because I cannot give zero. I am pretty sure that I have never dealt with a company with such useless customer service representatives and so called "supervisors" and I use that term loosely. It started yesterday when my direct TV went out and granted there was a snow storm but I live in Chicago and I believe that they should place the dish somewhere where there is less of a chance of it being covered with snow than on the roof of my 2 story home. So I called because I had no cable service, missed the Superbowl and anything else that I may have wanted to watch. I call and technical support asks me if there is a way I can clean the dish off myself and I said "unless I can sprout wings and fly to the roof then no, there is no possibility" then I was transferred over to another representative who lowered my bill $13 for the next 12 months because of "customer loyalty" then sets up an appointment for a technician to come out the next morning. The technician comes out says he can't do anything changes a bunch of numbers on the satellite and then mumbles something about 3 satellites and leaves...mind you now I am not even getting an error message now all the channels are just coming up as a blank screen and I didn't even receive a follow up call from the company to see how the service call went. I called back today because you guessed it, I still had no television and spoke with I believe her name is lori she was very nice and I was supposed to be transferred to a supervisor and I get transferred to some guy who irritated me more than I already was because he asked me what was going on when I just spent 38 minutes explaining what was going on to the previous lady. I tell him I was supposed to be transferred to a supervisor and he puts me on hold for another 14 minutes coming back four different times to ask me if I wanted to speak to a supervisor. Finally after 46 minutes on the phone Megan the "supervisor" picks up and I haven't heard as many "ummmmms and uhhhhs" since I was in highschool speech class. She did absolutely nothing regarding the poor service except offer a $4.93 credit for the service I wasn't able to use. I said no thanks and proceeded to ask her when they can't use weather for an excuse what can they say about the horrid download speeds for movies and on demand programs to which she blamed the AT&T portion of the bundled service and then I got a few more "ummmms and uhhhhs" I ended up hanging up on her. So as far as I am concerned they can offer their cable services for $5 a month and it still wouldn't be worth it. If you want unprofessional customer service representatives, supervisors with sudden cases of stage fright, interrupted service if the wind blows wrong then Direct TV is the way to go. read more

The agents lie through their teeth. Bryant Guillemette was the agent I worked with, he agreed to provide every single channel I asked for but we didn't get a single one of them. We signed up for AT&T Direct TV. The man that signed us up had our name wrong and said no worry he would change it, he did not. He also signed us up for AUTO PAY and the company sent me a bill I called and 3 hours later I got a man that looked up the account and said "Yep I see that you are signed up for AUTO PAY and for us not to worry he had it all fixed on his end. He also fixed the first name but would not change the incorrect spelling on the last name. He gave me a phone number and it looked like another 3 hours so I gave up, now on April 8 I get an email that says it is a "Friendly Reminder" that I have not paid my bill. I went on line and had a virtual chat with someone or something that was not able to understand anything. I started out nice but by the time I was run around the MAY Pole for the 50th time I was so angry I could hurt someone. There was absolutely no way to get resolution. I gave up and called them only to be put on hold that looked like it would go on for hours. This is not the way to treat you customers. For Gods sake hire more people to answer phones. While you are at it hire people that can fix problems so you don't have to keep going back to fix the same problem over and over again. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE. By far the worst customer service I have experienced ever. They jacked my Bill up $60 at the beginning of the year. I was already considering getting rid of them because there internet is so slow but after the increase in price I was done. It always takes forever to get an actual person on the phone. Direct TV sucks! Don't use them! Find another cable company! I called Direct TV for an additional box in my basement and they convinced me to bundle with them and AT & T. They said if I did so, I could get more movie channels through their Direct Cinema. Direct TV then sends someone out to hook-up my box and the guy says that he can't hook-up the Direct Cinema until I get the internet modem from AT & T. He then proceeds in telling me that I will be charge for him to come back to hook it up. I call Direct TV and they send me the Direct Cinema Connection Kit in the mail in order for me to hook it up myself. I have spent the whole morning trying to connect it without success. Meanwhile, I have paid this company thousands of dollars over the years for cable. I was told that it will cost me $440 to leave their company. Direct TV has the worst customer service. I have been a customer for 2 1/2/ years and my bill was paid by auto pay. So they always had there money on time. I decided to switch to Dish because of the cost. I missed the billing cycle date by 4 days. So Direct TV is charging me for the full month of January when I cancelled on Dec. 27. I spent 2 hours on the phone with them trying to resolve this, why should I pay for service not received? They played the game of switching me from dept. to dept. Very disappointed direct TV recommended me to a horrible internet service called excede. Don't make the mistake of getting it. $67 a month just for internet...the slow our service down after 3 days telling us we are at our limit...also with direct TV when you want to watch on demand you have to have internet and this service is used up if you watch a couple shows and when they slow you down signal not strong enough do on demand so basically it is not use able...also won't let us out of contract with excede unless we pay $300...excede lied and said service was good for watching movies but after a few movies our whole month was used up....basically paid $67 to watch 3 movies! read more

Wish I could give zero stars. My bill includes basic plus HBO and Showtime. But my HBO OnDemand hasn't worked for MONTHS. I keep calling and getting the same run around about resetting my box, the contract with HBO is "still being negotiated and impacting service", blah blah blah. They even tried to justify the bad service by lying and saying I don't have HBO (which was met by awkward silence when they checked my bill). I'm told to call back every month to let them know if it isn't resolved. FOUR MONTHS LATER still no HBO OnDemand. I ask for a service credit until this is resolved...and was DENIED. As I write this, I'm back to wasting a Saturday morning repeating my issue with every department, hearing excuses about why I can't get a credit on my bill, and being told to reset my box again. DO NOT. Really. Customer service (CS) is incapable and in its actions the company does everything it can to make sure you never return. After canceling my service, my online access was discontinued. Minimum of 4 calls - each a half hour (seriously) to request an E mail version of itemized bill. While CS stayed on the line - no bill ever came through. One call led to IT which forwarded a new password. Did not work. Called again today - asked them to 'please take my money'. No way to see itemized bill. Cannot send because I'm no longer a customer. Seriously. Why would anyone pay a bill without seeing it. Cancelation fees are ridiculously steep, documents showed 2 year commitment when I signed for one (should not have trusted the conversation because 2 years showed up in print). Just received an email from Direct TV saying they enrolled me in paperless billing. I tried to unenroll myself and the button didn't respond to do this. I called them. They identified me and I told them to unenroll me........they needed more information. I had already wasted 30 minutes dealing with them and I told them to JUST UNENROLL ME, they certainly didn't need "more info" when they decided to enroll me and so they don't need it now. This is my first time writing a review of a company. I am also going to file a claim with the State of Illinois Attorney's General Office. It turns out that I so happen to look at my DirecTV bill when I noticed that they were billing for the NFL Ticket. Outraged at the sight of the bill, I called very angrily and voiced my dissatisfaction with being them. We do not look at football at my house, plus I am in the middle of writing a dissertation so I know I don't have time for sports, of any kind. Whomever I spoke too (at least two months ago) told me that they would correct the situation by giving me a $50.00 credit each month for the next 12 months. In effect, compensating me for the inconvenience and theft as I saw it. This came on the backdrop of Wells Fargo stealing from its customers, there DirecTV doing the same to me. Fast forward to February 5, Super Bowl weekend; I was having problems with the receptive. I received an error message on all the TVs in my house stating something to the effect that "server not found." I know those were not the exact words. I called for technical support, and this guy spent nearly an hour giving me the go around. Frustrated by all of this, I decided that I have enough of this crappy customer service and a product that just does not work when I need it. So I decided to cancel the service then and there. As you can imagine I got the runaround, but finally, I got to the cancellation desk, only to be told that I am under contract. Under a contract, I asked, how the heck could I be under contract? The customer rep that I spoke to was understandable and understood my point of view. In fact, she was able to read back my exact complaint that I filed with then some two months ago. It makes no sense, why would I go under contract with a company that just stole my money by billing me for services that I never used and asked for? They all but acknowledged they screwed me. What is worst is that they misled me by thinking they were going to give me my money back. I was never informed that for giving me my money back (most people and reputable businesses could call that a refund) would result in a contract extension. What the f&*k is wrong with this greed that now exists in corporate America? When is enough, enough? My appeal you each one of you out there is that you should never trust DirecTV, they suck. I have had so many issues with Directv. Not only have I had issues with items just "popping" up on my bill such as MLB extra innings or premium channels I also have had nothing but problems with my actual bill. I decided to combine ATT internet with my directv bill. THIS WAS A HUGE MISTAKE!!! My bill have NEVER been the same price for each month and even if Directv does credit something to your account..it doesn't credit your bill until the following month. They also charge you an INSANE amount to cancel your service. I currently live in an apartment and am moving into a high rise building without balconies. Directv told me that they only way that they waive the fee is if there are trees blocking the satellite view. I had grown tired of the Comcast raising their prices so I went in search of a different provider. I got Direct tv in Oct of 2013 and it was the biggest mistake!! I have just passed the 1 year mark {I had to sign up for 2 yrs} and the receiver in my home has gone bad. No service coming into the house. I called and their options for me was to buy a new receiver or get a tech to the house for a $50. fee. Neither was acceptable but after fighting an hour on the phone, realized I had no choice but to pay for a new receiver. The lady was nice and sent it the next day. She told me "all I needed to do was attach the power lines and call Direct tv and they would activate it." Got the box and after 2 hours again on the phone unable to get service but getting the runaround again about paying more money, I finally got ahold of someone who tried to get the box running but to no avail. Now another day wasted and no tv. A tech is supposed to come out Free of charge tommorrow and they say they will credit me for time lost but I am livid that their products are so shoddy that they don't even last more than a year! I have spoken to others who have endured similar problems and regret the day they ever signed up with Direct. I may be stuck with them for another year but wish to warn anyone out there who is thinking of switching, don't bother. It may only be $24 a month but they get you up the butt in all these additional fees throughout the course of your contract. read more

Just a word of caution to others: We cancelled our Directv recently but re-instated when we were offered a smaller package. We agreed to 19.99 a month and were surprised when our first month's bill was 41.00. When we called to complain we were told this was a fee to change our package. Of course no one mentioned this when we accepted the offer. I feel this is dishonest and will cancel Directv the minute this contract is over. In addition they did not give us HD which was part of the package they were offering to new customers. We don't even bother to watch it anymore as we are very very happy with our antenna and streaming devices. read more

I cancelled the service after suffering through the winter with it keeping it for 17 months out of the 24 term contract so they charged me 180 cancellation fee. I am contesting this fee.
