I have been waiting to get my hands on some of Dee's dipped goods for a while! I follow the IG. I've gone on the website a couple times to see what's for sale. I've never gone on early enough. Early bird gets the worm. I'm not a bird, nor do I munch in worms... *vampire*
So when I saw the line up of who would be at the Waikele What The Truck event, I thought it would be an awesome opportunity to check off a couple spots from my (to eat/visit) list. Although we arrived fairly early to the event, my middle son had boba on the brain. So we went that a way. Then as we came back into the parking area I got distracted by turkey legs, cuz (sigh) Disney *hearts*. Standing in line for the meat, I could not figure out where all these people were lining up for behind me. The line went out from Dee's tent and curved up the length of the parking lot and curved again around the tree near the road!
At first I was going to give up on the line because I didn't think there were possibly enough product for everyone that was there. I was so sure that I would wait in line for 30m, get quite close to the tent, then boom! All gone! Story of my life...
So I went to wait in line for something eose because my daughter was bummed that she would get the berries and I'd have to satisfy her sweet tooth with something else. As we waited, I decided to ask someone passing by with a Dipped by Dee bag how long they waited from end of line to purchase. They were quick to say it wasn't long at all.
My boys weren't doing anything but complaining about the heat, so I sent them to the back of the line while my daughter and I waited in the other line and we watched. They started behind the tree and probably got through half of the line within 10m.
We finished our cookie purchase and joined the boys and maybe within another 5-10m we were at the tent! Yay! Lots of product left, and I would get to try some! For all the built up excitement, surprising I didn't leave with one of everything... I picked an apple (s'mores), my daughter picked her apple (cotton candy), and I chose two berry cups (shortcake & ube).
Right when I got to the line to join my boys, Dee was out handing items to people in line and thanking everyone for their patience. You could tell she really outs her heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears into this production she has going on. And its working, everyone is literally here for it, week after week!
Soon as we got home I popped open the berries and we all had one. Yum! They were both good, but my fave is the shortcake. I quickly cut up the apples, they were really good and fresh! Perfect caramel and choco/flavor ratio. Other caramel apples would just have such a thick layer of caramel that its a crazy mess. This apple was still an apple and then some.
Friday was the day that all the stars had aligned for me. I almost got discouraged. As I walked to my car with the signature Dipped by Dee bag in hand, someone hollered in envy. "Aw man, you got the stuff! The line was so long!" I tried to encourage him to wait like we did because if it weren't for those ladies I asked, I wouldn't have either. Even though my wallet didn't prepare for such a dent, I'm glad we made our contribution to this small local business. She's definitely good for it! read more
