I really wanted to like Dio Deka. My fiancée loves Mediterranean food and we both love Los Gatos and I had hoped that Dio Deka would be a spot we would go to many times over the years. We went there for her birthday. I do not expect to go back. We arrived and were shown to our table. Our waiter came by the table promptly, but was visually displeased with the fact that we would not be ordering alcohol (neither of us drink). While I understand that ordering alcohol increases the price of the meal and, as a result, his tip, sighing, frowning, and walking away was incredibly unprofessional. My fiancée ordered a soup. When it was my turn to order, I ordered a risotto appetizer. Before I could finish my order, the waiter gave another audible sigh and said, "You know that's only an appetizer, right?" I then told him, yes, and that I was also ordering the $70 filet. In all: the service left much to be desired. Unfortunately, the food was just ok. My fiancée's tomato-based soup was way too salty--to the point where a spoonful brought to mind a potato chip in the level of salt. The risotto was passable. I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with it, but the taste was not to my liking. I didn't finish it, which is something I almost never do at a restaurant. The filet was also decent. My medium rare had a layer of charring that was too thick for my taste, but I suppose you could chalk that up as my personal opinion. The noise level and ambiance were what is to be expected of a Michelin star dining experience. Perhaps we caught the chef on an off-night and perhaps the waiter had had a bad day, but given the price of the food and the number of other good restaurants in Los Gatos and the greater Bay Area, I doubt we will ever be back to test that theory. read more

I had dinner here this past weekend. The food here is still delisioso! We started off with the appetizer pork short ribs and octopus. It was definitely what I remembered it to be! It's my mom's 60th birthday, which I totally forgot. UGH. Being in major trouble I needed to find someplace special. I called and suggested a steakhouse, and she said ok. But then I remembered that I had always wanted to try Dio Deka. I call her back and suggest greek... she pauses reluctantly as all Asian mom's do when trying something not Asian and not pure Americana. Insisting that it'll be great I convince here and we're off. We arrive early with a reservation and luckily enough the restaurant was relatively empty at 5:45 on a Saturday and they can seat us early. Out comes the pita bread which is warm and DELICIOUS. Then we order some of the greek appetizers, since my parents had never tried them before I decided on the sampler. That plate was ridiculous good. On to the main courses. My dad got the veal T-bone steak, this was like the best cut of T-bone i had ever tried. Cooked to medium rare perfection and perfectly rested, I would have easily wanted to switch his plate for mine. I had gone to a bbq earlier that day and wanted something light, so I ordered the hristopsaro (fish, sea bream) super tasty. Mom ended up with the lambchops served medium rare. What can I say? This seem like a Greek month for me. I have lots of families here this month visiting a sick relative and some of them wanted what some of us had last week. I wanted to try some other greek restaurant of course ;) So we ended in Dio Deka. This time with reservation and wearing something prettier :) We started with Haloumi, Piperies and Octapothi Scharas. I liked them all. Especially the Octapothi Scharas! Yummy! I had the Pastitsada ... Hand-rolled Pappardelle pasta with roasted lamb ragu, garlic confit, Santorini wine, Kalamata olives and shaved Kefalograviera cheese. To die for. I want some right now. I have a soft spot in my belly for lamb. So I reached over and had a piece of the Moussakas ... A traditional layered casserole of tender-braised ground lamb, sliced eggplant and potato with a béchamel crust. Confusion set in. Which one is better? I want what was on the other plate. But-I can't be that rude. So I decided to make a mental note to order the Moussakas next time. Service was excellent. Ambience is much more suited for a date if you wanted it to be :) Stayed after dinner to meet with a friend. It was my birthday, and the wife surprised me by taking me to Dio Deka for dinner. We consumed the following: 1. ELIES ... Marinated Kalamata olivers, chili, rosemary Dish of olives. Big & meaty, but choking with rosemary (Simon & Garkunkel can keep it if you ask me). 2. SILOGI ... An assortment of Greek spreads: taramas, tzatziki, ktipiti, and gigantes skordalia The tzatziki was thick & gorgeous, and everything that tzatziki should be. The taramas was whipped, creamy, & dreamy--not the least bit fishy considering its components (roe). The ktipiti was a feta & pepper concoction and the gigantes skordalia was a garlicky olive-oil-whipped mashed potato spread. The last two were pretty good, beautifully presented, but nothing special. 3. OCTAPOTHI SCHARAS ... Mesquite-grilled Mediterranean octopus, sauce romesco, lemon vinaigrette, grated hazelnuts, arugula Wonderful smoky flavor, surprisingly flavorful octopus. The romesco was light & tomatoey, and the hazelnuts provided a welcomed crunch--very satisfying. 4. ORZO ... burnt butter, Myzithra cheese Really, really, really buttery orzo pasta. A bit too rich and not flavorful enough. 5. BEETS ... roasted in mesquite embers, horseradish Beets are hard to do wrong. These were done right. The creamy horseradish could've been a bit stronger. 6. PAITHAKIA ... Two double-cut Mesquite-grilled lamb chops, lemon-oregano crusted potatoes, whipped spinach Melt-in-your-mouth lamb chops--some of the best lamb I've had & grilled to perfection. The potatoes and spinach were nothing remarkable. 7. RIB-EYE ... 24 oz USDA prime, French-cut bone-in rib eye delivers marvelously rich, yet mellow flavor that comes from the heart of the prime rib roast, where the most abundant marbling, tender textures and succulent taste are found. Extremely marbled rib eye--medium rare and a great cut. The sauce was a simple brown sauce that wasn't very memorable or satisfying--served over a piece of hard baguette, which wasn't that nice. 8. BOUGATSA ... crispy phyllo filled with semolina custard, spiced wine sorbet, bitter orange I read in a review that the custard would be really creamy, but it wasn't really--it was kinda like thick sweet Cream of Wheat. Still very interesting, and the bitter orange was amazing. Spiced wine sorbet is my new absolute favorite flavor of sorbet. Extra points for creativity. 9. YIAOURTI ... Sweetened Greek yogurt, "Dirty Girl" strawberries, walnut streusel, strawberry-yogurt sorbet Oh wow was this great. Thick sweet greek yogurt with strawberry chunks, strawberry sauce, and strawberry juice drizzled over it. One of the best desserts I've ever had. ALL IN ALL: Pretty fabulous, probably second only to Gary Danko in the Michelin one star category (well, formerly Michelin one star now I guess). read more

An unusual menu. Excellent service. Great for something different from pizza and burgers.

A bit overpriced, but the food is quite delicious and service is above and beyond. We came here for our ten year anniversary dinner and they gave us a special menu that said "Happy Anniversary" on it. :) The restaurant looks high end and a lot of people came dressed up. I like that you can see into the kitchen wherever you sit. Our waiter was super attentive, maybe even a bit too attentive. Every time I looked up or even glanced around he would come running over to our table to ask us if we needed anything. I guess it's better to have an overly attentive waiter than one who completely ignores us. Lamb Chops- the meat was tender and had really good flavor to it. I loved the lamp chops! I would definitely get this again when I come back. Veal- I have to say the lamb chops were better than the veal, but overall the veal was still good. Mesquite grilled octopus- I don't normally like octopus due to the texture, but I actually really really liked this dish! It was super tender and was nothing like the usual chewy texture I've experienced. Flavor was also spot on. Brussel Sprouts- recently I have become obsessed with brussel sprouts. The ones I had here were really delicious. I tried to deconstruct it to figure out what they put for seasoning/sauce because I have never had brussel sprouts that had such an amazing sauce on it. There's definitely something in it that makes it unique and really delicious. Baklava- it was a little too dry for my liking. I've had better baklava elsewhere. Beignets- they gave us free beignets as well. I liked these more than the baklava. I probably wouldn't have ordered the baklava if I knew they would give us free beignets. Overall, I enjoyed most of the food. I would come here again but probably only for a special occasion due to the price point. tl;dr first: 1* because even though they knew I had a nut allergy, there were walnuts (not disclosed on menu) in the dessert. I came here last night on a whim since Dio Deka has been on my list of restaurants to try for quite some time. The staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. I informed my waiter that I had a nut allergy and the server (not our waiter) who brought our appetizer told us (without prompt) that there were no nuts in anything we ordered. The dessert menu at the top has a disclaimer "desserts may contain nuts", but some of the desserts specified what nuts were in them, so I assumed that I would be OK. Stupidly, I ate one of the beignets without looking very closely and realized my mistake right after I swallowed... Luckily my allergy isn't bad enough that I go into anaphylactic shock, but bad enough that it makes me throw up and need to take Benadryl or I end up looking like Hitch for a few hours. I immediately alerted my server who was apologetic and ran to the 7-11 a block away to get me Benadryl. I ended up throwing up in the bathroom and taking the Benadryl. When the check came, our server had (understandably) removed the dessert from our check, but nothing more. The manager did not even come to apologize. I asked to talk to the manager and the server obliged and brought him to the table. I informed him of what happened and he apologized and after some rather strong suggesting, he took the appetizer off our bill, but nothing more. To be honest, the manager simply did not seem to care that they served me food that they should have known I was allergic to since 2 people confirmed with me during the dinner that, in fact, none of my food had nuts. Some people's allergies are deadly, so the lack of care in a restaurant of this caliber is shocking. The manager's reaction is the main reason I am even writing this review. Other than that, I would have given 3.5 stars. Overall, the food is only decent. It is priced on par with a Michelin one-star, but does not deliver and I can see why they lost their star this year. Ever since we first went I have been dreaming about going back. Hmm, sometimes things just don't live up to your dreams. It was good, I loved it, the company was awesome. John and I went for our 13th Wedding Anniversary. They printed a menu that says "Happy 13th Anniversary". Probably have them in the back, huh? I just thought of that. The staff was basically kind. They explained one of the dishes we ordered THREE separate times to us because I couldn't remember. That was nice. We ordered the Silogi. This is the dish they explained to us multiple times because we kept forgetting which spread was which. I still can't remember, even looking at the menu. There was a "new" one that was made with white beans (I think), there was one that was spicy and made with cheese, there was one with lobster (really salty), and the tzatziki (more lemony than garlicky). I liked the bean one the best. The pita bread was a bit on the burned side this time. I was slightly disappointed in it, but that didn't keep us from eating it as it was what we put the spreads on. Slathering it with the spreads helped take away the burnt flavor. We also ordered spanakotiropita. Served in little cone shapes as opposed to triangles. I also ordered Pancetta sauteed brussels sprouts, I figured if anyone could get me to like Brussels sprouts it would be Dio Deka. These did not disappoint. They were very good. I loved how they were caramelized. And I ordered the Moussakas. I don't remember it swimming in sauce last time. I prefer it not sitting in a pool of sauce. I wasn't wowed. It was lamb, eggplant, potato with a layer of bechamel. It was ok I liked it, but I was kinda turned off with the pool of sauce. The sauce was good, but it was strongly flavored and to me it took away---instead of added---to the Moussakas. There was not way to get a bite of Moussakas without dragging it through the sauce. We were told there was a new chef and he was working his way through the menu changing things. I am glad we went early though because when I asked the waiter to take a picture he said something like he could do it now before it got busy. I am glad I asked to hostess upon making reservations when the best (non-busy) time was to go because I would have hated to have been there when the waiter was too busy to take a minute to take a quick photo. We had a lovely experience at Dio Deka! The staff greeted us as we walked in, and restaurant itself has a warm and rustic look. We started with some Japanese scallops that melted in your mouth like butter-- just like a perfect scallop should. It was accompanied with a squid ink sauce and lobster emulsion foam. For our palate cleanser we were served potato and leak soup which came in a lovely little cup. I ordered the Branzino which came with rosemary potatoes and Swiss chard. The fish was perfectly crisp on the outside but still moist on the inside and the chard was not bitter at all! The citrus from the lemon juice tied it all together. We ended our meal with some crisp on the outside but soft on the inside beignets drizzled in honey. read more

I reconsidered the food and slow service and decided I could not currently rate this over 3 stars; it only gets 3 stars because it is quite attractive and the servers were friendly. The food was sort of appalling. I spoke with an acquaintance last week (who I know LOVED Dio Deka); and she volunteered found the food to be very, very disappointing, too when she visited in Oct. 2021. Had a great meal with a nice server, but for nearly $300, I expected more. Started with the sampler appetizer (Pikilia), which was tasty, but might be better value to just stick to 1 or 2 appetizers. The dolma was prepared a lot differently than I am used to, with less sour flavor from the grape leaf. Then we got the bone-in filet and petite filet, both were great and cooked to perfection, but quite overpriced. For nearly $80 per steak, I'm expecting something to blow me out of the water and these unfortunately did not. Paired the steaks with Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, which helped bring out the taste. Finally, finished off with the sokolata which was the most unique dish of the night. Good experience overall, but I think it's overpriced and needs to have more unique dishes that will get me coming back. The atmosphere was nice, but not as secluded or quiet as I expected. I think this restaurant deserves between 3-3.5 stars as an appropriate rating. read more

Solid restaurant with consistently good dishes. I like the food here, service is friendly, and the vibes of the restaurant make it so it could be a good restaurant for a special occasion or just a nice dinner out. My go to favorites: the octopus appetizer (perfectly cooked octopus), ribeye (sooooo yummy, delicious flavors and cooked to perfection every time), and yiaourti (thick yogurt and fresh fruit make for a perfect ending to the meal). Also, I'm not a huge coffee drinker but my husband loves the frappe here and it looks really good when it comes out, so if you're in the mood I would suggest getting it. Even though I like the food here, I think this place is a little overpriced, only because the portions of most of the dishes vs. the price is a little off. But that often happens in the Bay so it doesn't necessarily dissuade me from coming here. read more

What a fine HELENIC cuisine it was. Took my hunnie here for his birthday and we truly enjoyed our experience. The service was excellent. The food was Phenomenal. Ordered the greek salad, grilled octopus, brussel sprouts, artichokes with potatoes , 24 oz RIBEYE , Baklava an d rice pudding. Everything was delicious. The steak was HUGE that we just shared it and couldn't even finish my portion. We also ordered a bottle of Malbec , chocolate maritini and gin with a lemon twist. They were all very tasty. Disappointing. Dio Deka was one of a couple restaurants in Los Gatos my wife and I hadn't tried yet, so we went this week. I got Moussaka and she got an 8oz filet mignon. This was the first time I had been to a Michelin star restaurant, so maybe my expectations were too high, but there are definitely many other restaurants in the area that are better. The pita bread they give you before the meal is pretty good. I thought the Moussaka was kind of bland. I much prefer the one at Opa nearby. The filet (ordered medium) was quite dry and chewy. I was expecting something like Forbes Mill, but this was far worse. I felt it was equivalent to what I get at Outback. My wife also ordered a side of fries, because the $55 dry steak didn't come with any. They were not unique and worse than most restaurants as well. The meal was also quite salty. My fiance and I will be on our way to Greece for our honeymoon one week from today (!) so we decided to come here this past weekend to celebrate and get us in a Greek mindset (and decompress from all the pre-wedding stress) :) The bread basket is AMAZING. I detected a coolness from our server from the moment we sat down, like he didn't expect us to spend much money or didn't think we belonged there. He was pushy, asking us several times "Are you sure you don't want another appetizer or a drink?" Its not like we were doing something cheapo and sharing an entree or something, we ordered two entrees and an appetizer! He also sounded kind of surprised with our order saying "Wow, that's a very Greek dinner" after I ordered and then said the same thing again after my fiance ordered. ....isn't it a Greek restaurant?? So that was odd. Its also worth noting that there were no amuse-bouche/palate cleansers as there usually are in Michelin-starred restaurants. This was probably the best way to spend my dad's birthday. The food and service was amazing. One guy accidentally dropped a plate and burned himself but made sure that we were alright before cleaning himself up. The food was soooo good. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and paired well with all the sides. Another thing that was delicious was the orzo side. I really wanted to order the orzo so I had to find something that paired well with it. After looking for awhile I decided to get the meatball. I was glad I did so because it was amazing. It was a little sweet and a lot good. The pork chop was also tender and flavorful. After our dinner we had to celebrate with desert. The beignets were so good as well as the baklava. I would love to give Dio Deko five stars. I would if the food was less expensive, but a the price point the items were at, I expected a bit more. Very solid food. For example, the bacon wrapped scallop made me so happy. The salad was a bit ordinary, if not fantastically dressed and presented. My fish was very good, and I heard that the lamb chops were good, but maybe not up to par for its price point of $40. It was on the cover of San Francisco magazine, which the boyfriend had been looking at hungrily for weeks. Maybe we expected perfection, and perfection is simply very very hard to find! When MY birthday arrived in October, I said "let's give Dio Deka another try". We reminded them twice in the week before our dinner and it was a 5 star event with excellent food and service by Courtney. The menu was printed with a customized greeting...we got a complimentary dish of Greek Beignets for dessert ( in addition to an order of Greek yogurt with fruit, honey and pistachios )...and an after-dinner drink for each of us. With this more freshly in mind than the "so what" we had in July, I suggested Dio Deka to our friend. - Food:  Every meal at Dio Deka starts with small cups of warm pita bread. It's a winner...especially when paired with an order of Silogy...an assortment of Greek spreads. Several more "cups" quickly came and went. To start dinner, we had 2 orders of Horiatiki Salad ( variety of vegetables and feta cheese ) and 1 Gigantes ( a dish of crispy cooked beans ). Ingredients of the Horiatiki were fine, but it seemed smaller than our last visit. For the main course, I had Kakavia ( clams, halibut, Maine lobster and scallops in a tomato and ouzo broth ). Excellent. My wife, the couple celebrating a birthday and another friend all ordered the Branzino ( a light fish ) with green vegetable and roasted potatoes. All 4 gave it thumbs up...although the food maven among the group said the Branzino at Evvia in Palo Alto was even better. For dessert, the birthday girl received a plate with a chocolate inscription and one beignet. The bowl of Greek Yogurt is amazing. I could have 3 per day. It's tastes great and is relatively healthy yet filling. A tough combo to beat. We also added a plate of Galaktoboureko ( semolina custard wrapped in phyllo with vanilla bean and a side of strawberry ice cream ). Prices were $10-11 and worth it. Coffee drinks and hot tea rounded out the meal. One final note. Although my wife and I got complimentary after-dinner drinks at my dinner in October 2013, November's birthday girl did not. I asked Yiani, our server, who said "we only provide a free dessert OR drinks". He then offered to bring drinks, but we were too full of food and noise by that time. - Noise: It's a killer...at least on Saturday nights. Some people probably feel comfort in the company of a crowd. Not me. With a full house, Dio Deka was an assault on the eardrums. The "acoustics" must be reverse engineered to enhance, rather than muffle, every conversation...sip of soup...and clang of silverware. Our table of 5 experienced diners felt numb and exhausted. Even as I write this review 18 hours later, my head is still reeling as if the previous night was spent parked next to loudspeakers at a rock concert. - Wine List:  Humungous.  A 58 page book with 1,200 choices. Our friend, the food maven, is also a self-taught aficionado of wine. He was dutifully impressed with Dio Deka's "bible", but said "most of the choices I spotted were more than 3 times retail" and selected a Chardonnay from Blindfold Prisoner. At $60, I felt like we ordered a bottle of Ripple ( cheap wine from the 60s and 70s for the young'uns reading this review ), but it certainly served our purpose. - Service:  Yiani, our waiter, was outgoing and friendly. When we first met him, he was so unreserved I wasn't sure he even worked at Dio Deka. Kind of reminded me of what a bouncer ( or large host ) at a speakeasy type bar in Las Vegas might look like. Not bad...just unlike the somewhat shy types walking the floor. But overall Yiani served us well. -  Price and Value:  Dio Deka is not cheap, but you generally get what you pay for. In this case...$388 for 5 before a 15-20% tip.-  Parking:  There's a "free valet", but we chose nearby parking along East Main Street. We will return to Dio Deka. The food, atmosphere and service are enjoyable. However, unless you visit Monday through Thursday or on Sunday, prepare for a high decibel dinner. read more

One of the best mediterranean restaurants in the bay area, more specifically Hellenic cuisine. Elegant ambience, great service, and tasty food. We came here for a double date business dinner and everyone really enjoyed themselves here. Spanakotiropita It was a standard safe dish to order so I knew it would be good, but it wasn't anything special or unique from anywhere else I've had it. Octapothi Scharas I didn't want to try this but everyone else on our table loved its tender texture and flavor and would recommend it to others. Haloumi It was crispy fried cheese with quince jam that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone Mavros Gados Black Cod Oh my god, order this! I love black cod (it's one of the few cooked fish I enjoy). It literally melts in your mouth & I couldn't wait to finish every last bite. I would order this again. Paithakia Lamb Chops Tender, succulent, and each bite was bursting with flavor. This was the most notable dish of the evening. We ended the evening with Loukoumathes, which are traditional Greek Beignets dipped in thyme-honey. I love thyme honey anything! They get a little too sweet, so just one order for the 4 of us was enough. Really miss the moussaka and octopus we had in Greece, so we decided on Greek food for our anniversary this year. Dio Deka was a great choice! We enjoyed everything we had for our dinner-- Moussaka -awesome Lamb chop--juicy, tender, and tasty Octopus--fresh and yummy Lamb meatbal -- great Honey mousse--nice ending ... ... ... They customized our menu too and gave us a complimentary special anniversary dessert. It was very sweet of them. Service was overall great. It's a bit noisy due to the big space with many people, but decorations and environment are good enough in general. Highly recommended and I will go back again :) read more

If I had to pick a last meal on earth, it would probably be lamb shanks, grilled octopus, and whatever special the kitchen is cooking up at Dio Deka! What can I say, get ready for an amazing feast! The food is top notch and everything is so well thought out. The service is impeccable (the host is hit or miss). The presentation of the food is clean and elegant. The foods are recognizable if you are familiar with Greek cuisine but the flavors are so complex. The sampler platter was very flavorful and delivered efficiently. The octopus was very good with nice consistency (tho a bit salty); for $16 I expected more. The problem is the entrees. The lamb shank was basically tasteless (only salt could be tasted) and was actually very tough to the point I needed to ask for a sharp knife. The fish (branzino) was dry and overcooked. The place is located inside a hotel. Restaurant has good ambience for date night. Lights are very dimmed in there. The experience was more like 3.5 but I rounded it up as nothing annoyed me or ruined the experience. I just wish the foods selection and quality were better. We ordered the Filet Mignon (was literally just salt and pepper taste), Fish of the Day-Salmon (again was just salted), and mushroom. We wanted the crab cakes but that was sold out. Grilled octopus was meh. The ingredients were fresh but the flavors were just not there...For the prices, I expect bunch of flavors that make me say wow or keep on nodding. All the dishes were just meh. It was like "oh it is alright but I have had better" kinda experience. Service was decent but wasn't that attentive for this type of restaurant. We had to flag someone ourselves for ordering after waiting for a very long time (after the drinks came out). Had the pleasure of going to Dio Deka with a friend, the host Sonia served up and was so amazing to say the least. All the dishes were amazing and delicious. Pricey but worth every buck, you definitely pay for top quality food and amazing service. Couldn't have asked for a better time at Dio Deka, one of the only places worth spending money at in the silicone valley area unless you head to Napa. For my hubby's birthday I took him to Dio Deka. We have not been here for years. Service was excellent! Food was good! We started with lamb meatballs and grilled octopus. Not a fan of the meatballs because it had cinnamon in the sauce but the grilled octopus was fantastic! My hubby loved it so much he asked for another order. Next came the mushroom soup, very rich but delicious. We shared the lamb chops. We were so full that we did not order any dessert but our server brought out cute dish of the Greek doughnuts and beautiful birthday wish written out on the plate. Excellent service!! read more

Dio Deka is such a gem in Los Gatos. The Rack of Lamb is out of this world...the best I've ever had even including the ones I've tried at several restaurants in SF. The meat was so tender and juicy, perfectly seasoned. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate cake which was good as well, but not quite up to par with the rest of the food. The service was fast and friendly. We got a drink at the bar and was seated quickly afterward, about 10 minutes after our 8pm reservation. This would be an amazing date restaurant. read more
