This place never disappoints. My go-to is the Crispy Tofu Banh Mi and a Thai Tea! This is a long over-due review, I've been coming here since 2018 and the flavor remains just as delicious. Clean and modern storefront with both new & traditional banh mi options! Dinosaurs makes a fantastic banh mi for about $8. Sure it's not Tenderloin prices, but it's SF and the fact that you can get a filling meal for under $10 is still a steal. Their bread is great-crispy on the exterior but soft on the inside. They use quality ingredients for their fillings. I always grab the tofu banh mi as a vegan option (no mayo), but they also have eggplant as another plant-based option! They can take a little bit of time to make, so I recommend calling in or ordering online first to expedite pickup. Definitely one of my top spots for Banh Mi in the city. I owe Dinosaurs an updated review because I recently went there again and felt like I had a completely different banh mi?? I had both the shaking beef banh mi and the special again, and they were both so moist, packed with flavor, and the proportions were *chef's kiss* perfect. I wonder if my banh mi was just made by a different person or if they recently changed their assembly - but either way, there is no denying the difference in flavor. And although it wasn't cheap, I had one of the best banh mi I've had in the city so far. I will say the spring rolls were sort of bland - I recommend sticking with their banh mi! read more

I ordered the chicken sandwich and it tasted great. I loved the chicken and the bread, and the veggies had a nice flavor as well. If I come here again, I think I would get extra meat, because there wasn't that much chicken. I've tried almost all the popular banh mi spots in San Francisco, given this spot 4-5 tries and it still failed to impress me. Being the only banh mi spot around the neighborhood helped with the good reviews I guess? The better things are pickles and the banh mi ( not too thick, not too thin). The meat in the Special banh mi always tasted bland to me. I asked them to put a little more soy sauce but that didn't seem to help. I can't justify going to this place while there are way better banh mi in the city: Banh Mi Viet in Divisadero (the best, closest to what I got in Sai Gon) or Saigon Sandwich (not a huge fan of the thick baguette but it's still decent). read more

This was my first time coming to this location, it could be pretty hard to find if you are following maps. Parking is not the easiest either. (Don't worry that's not why I gave it this rating) I tried to call the store and the person who answered the phone told me to please hold. All I heard was music blasting really loud in the background and was on hold for 10 min. I ended up hanging up because I felt like he just forgot. Honestly Dinosaurs changed my view on Bahn Mi. Growing up I had my fair share of Bahn Mi from a chain that rhymes with Sees Landwhiches, which had super dry and flaky bread and skimped on the meat. Every bite would be filled with stale, dried flakes with little addition from the meek portion of the fillings. Dinosaurs changed this completely, using a roll that has a good crunch but maintains its structural integrity when you bite into it. I got The Special which had a generous serving of different pork and the pickled vegetables. Don't be fooled by the cute 8" sandwich as it's amazingly filling; I barely finished.. The spring rolls are amazing and I love the freshness of the vegetables and the mint! The banh mi was nice and crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The meat is a little too salty for me but the vegetables help balance it. The staff are super super nice and engaging and accommodated to everything. $28.93 for 1 grilled pork sandwich, pork & shrimp roll, and a watermelon slush. The prices on their online menu still reflect $8 sandwiches so I was pretty shocked when the total came out to that. The watermelon litchi smoothie is really refreshing! I love the drinks here. The grilled pork sandwich and pork and shrimp rolls were both alright but I feel like I can get a better deal elsewhere with the same taste. I get that times are tough all around and prices have gone up for ingredients. But I just can't justify a $13 (?) bahn mi sandwich from anywhere considering the sandwiches itself are pretty small. I didn't get to eat it right away so I can't really attest to how fresh it was because by the time I got to eat my sandwich the bread wasn't crunch anymore. *sigh* Had I known about the price hike beforehand, I don't think I would've continued with my order. They also offer non vegan bahn mi which are delicious, not as good as the vegan bahn mi, and imitates meat subs as opposed to that expected pickled carrots/radish, cilantro, mayo viet taste. Loved that all their bahn mi had soft golden crispy bread that tasted great but didn't scrape the roof of your mouth. 1) The VEGAN CRISPY TOFU was the best. I'm not a huge advocate for tofu vegan items but they fry the tofu and taro like shoestring fries to get a delicious full savory flavor. 2) The Vegan Portobello Mushroom was also delicious. Rich in flavor for something as seemingly simple as mushroom. 3) The Shaking Beef was oh my my generous with their beef portion but somehow was slightly to their disadvantage as it thus tasted like a meat sub. Delicious sandwich! Came here for the first time and tried the grilled pork. The bread was perfect. Texture was soft on the inside and good filling of meat and veggies. Everything was well balanced. The flavors were bold but didn't overpower each other. The spread/sauce had good flavor and didn't have too much on the sandwich. I went closer to when they opened on a weekday so it wasn't busy. I was hoping this pork would be like the style of pork that you usually get with a pork vermicelli bowl, but the style here is cut more thinly and has a stronger smokey flavor. TLDR: Poor customer service and rude manager. Better Bahn Mi restaurants in San Francisco. Try Dragon Eats! I was served by CJ and June. As I received my order, I accidentally dropped half of my sandwich on the floor. I completely own that part. The packaging wasn't secure. I had thought they were going to make the other half of my sandwich over again. After waiting some time, CJ came up to me and re-wrapped my sandwich and he said that he couldn't remake my sandwich. I understand that that is their policy and went outside to eat half of my sandwich. After eating my sandwich, I went back inside and asked if I could leave some customer feedback. June (I believe) was on her phone the entire time I was giving feedback. At this point, I was flustered because it was rude that she was on her phone and not listening to me. She then told me to talk to her manager, CJ. I was very calm in relaying my feedback. I explained to them that it was disappointing that they couldn't remake my sandwich that I dropped within seconds of making it. He said that it wasn't their policy. While I do not agree with their policy as I have worked in multiple restaurants and the service industry, he was very defensive and was not accepting my feedback. I understand that receiving negative feedback isn't always great as a business owner, but it was alarming that he was extremely defensive. I felt disregarded as a first time customer. He said that it was my third time coming in. The first time was to order and get my order, second time was to get siracha, and the third time was to relay my feedback. If he is reading this, I hope that you understand that I was only trying to leave customer feedback. I understand your policy. Tried this place recently. The have a Yelp Check-in offer, which is great. I am a fan of Banh Mi sandwiches and loved that they have Vegan protein options which were Tofu and Mushrooms. I wanted to try both and so ordered the Tofu Banh Mi and added mushroom to it. Overall the sandwich was pretty flavorful and not bland like most vegetarian / vegan sandwiches. So I reviewed the SOMA Dinosaurs not too long ago, and this past weekend my partner found themselves with a hankering for (vegan) Vietnamese iced coffee. I love the vibe of Dinosaurs with the arcade games, dinosaur sticker machine, merch, food and drink selection all being presented in a casual but cool atmosphere. Prices are good and service is quick. I'm never one to pass up a Banh Mi, so I ordered the Crispy Tofu Banh Mi and found it to be much better than the one I had from the SOMA location! The tofu wasn't as dry and the sandwich itself had a generous slathering of vegan mayo and a sprinkling of cracked black pepper. I was super satisfied after topping it off with sriracha. The vegan Vietnamese iced coffee was really good in my opinion, albeit not as creamy as expected. I'm not 100% sure what vegan milk they use since the menu said condensed soy milk but when we ordered it they said it was coconut. Regardless it had that classic strong coffee flavor and the milk made it sweet and flavorful! I will definitely be returning to this location for more sandwiches and coffee, and maybe even a beer next time! read more

I love Dinosaurs! They have delicious banh mis here that are consistently tasty and filling. I always order The Special banh mi which is a combination of porks. I'm a big fan of pâté which is yummy here, and the sandwich comes with a good amount of fresh carrots, radish, cucumber, and jalapeños which contrast nicely with the rich meat. Yummy Sandwiches! Ok, so I've only tried their Shaking Beef Sandwich so far because I'm a creature of habit so I tend to just stick with the same food if I really love it! I've been to Dinosaurs probably about 4xs now, and every time I've been happy with my sandwich. I think the 1st time I was there I got it with an Avocado Shake which was light, creamy, refreshing, and slightly sweet. I think I would prefer it being a little sweeter, but this was nice too. Then the other times I've tried the Thai Iced Tea (which was good), and my last time I tried the Mango Mint Smoothie which was delish! I think so far my fave would be the Mango Mint Smoothie. They have other sandwiches selections, but I just can't get myself to try other ones yet. They also have spring rolls as well if you're into that. Pretty cute little sandwich place with a few seatings inside and outside. There's a small little vintage-y arcade game with lots of chip options. It's also pretty hidden with not a very obvious signage. It seems like they get break-ins often because of the wooden plank to cover where the windows were. That's not good that they have to keep on dealing with that. But yes, I'm a fan of this place. Love the name of the place. :) Ps. My vegan daughter liked the food, my 15 year old boy was okay with shrimp and pork spring rolls, my 9 year old did not like the chicken and shrimp spring rolls, had to get him some food at Oceana market. Definitely was a pleasant surprise :) Usually when I order Banh mi, the meat is questionable, but since all the other places serve it that way, I've never second guessed it... This place changed that perspective. First off, the bread is toasty warm and ginormous. (Yes, that means the roof of your mouth will be scraped) The ingredients were fresh and the meat was recognizable and tasty! They were quick with the order and there was enough space to sit without having to hear everyone's conversations. There is a restroom nearby, just ask an employee for the key! Went back again and the quality was consistent for my shaking beef bahn mi. My boyfriend wasn't wowed by his last time, but he said it was so much fresher and had more meat in it this time.
